We are extremely extremely lucky to have this fresh completely chemical free pet food resource in the Twin Cities. My Dad was a Prof of Biochemistry for 50 years in a nyc medical school. He taught us of the hazards of preservatives, hydrogenating foods' , emulsifiers artificial colors and all chemicals added in processed foods. In a nutshell, they are basically carcinogenic. My daughter, who fed her cat Woodys food for 18 of her 20 years, introduced me. My cat, now 15 is still going strong! Food created has the option of having / not having vitamins added and is MADE FRESH several days a week. They offer beef chicken venison etc either ground raw or grounded cooked. The operation IS SPOTLESS! It is sold in small round containers approx 1-2 cups or in 1-2 gallon large round containers. Either FRESH/ or FROZEN. This location houses a large manufacturing operation and large retail store offering SIX full days of being open! Open: Sunday 12-4 Monday. we really like Woody's dog food. it's just difficult, at least for us to fit within their hours of operation. The 50th/Xerxes location seems to be closed more often than open. Today, Friday, 12:15, closed. Usually im to early, (before noon) Obviously our hours don't mesh. I wind up buying another product. Plus no recycling of the containers seems odd, wasteful. read more

I have been going to Woodys for years and have referred many people but today I was very upset .Every time I have been in there, I have always been asked if I need help to the car and I have never needed it until today . I was picking up an order for me and another order for my friend. I came in and said hello and I told him that my friend just placed an order and I'm here to pick it up and he said well ,I don't know about that . I said she just called in about five minutes ago and I told him her name. I did bring my own bags and they were three large insulated bags.I asked the guy if he could help me get them to the car and he told Me No ,we just opened and I can't help you. A complete stranger that was in the store said he could help me. Not good costumer advice at all. This place saved our rescue kitten. He was found on the brink of death. We purchased the highest priced dry food, which made little Willie worse. Dr. Sue, the Cat Vet, recommended raw food diet, and Willie is running, playing, and gaining weight. His eyes and coat look much healthier. His rampant diarrhea has resolved. The gentleman at the Woodbury location was incredibly helpful. He explained in detail what to do, and even gave us samples to start. I cannot recommend this place high enough. We have been customers of Woody's on Snelling for over 4 years. Our dog, Queenie is much healthier since she began eating their food and our Vet is very pleased with our little girl's diet. Queenie inhales it so quickly I have to spread it in a thin veneer inside her bowl to slow her down. MaryAnn is the BEST! I received an international award from the 'old WFM' for developing customer service (c.s.) training programs and constantly trained employees at most of my jobs. I would steal MaryAnn away if I had my own business. I saw a couple of disparaging remarks on here about the service among all the rave reviews. For a business with variable flows of traffic and predictably undetermined stretches of downtime, keeping more than one person on the clock would be financially infeasible and unwise. So you impatient folks may have to wait a minute or two. That's just life sometimes - but it's worth it here! MaryAnn is extremely efficient and helpful invariably, while at the same time always letting you know how much she cares about you and your fur-baby. She connects with all the customers in the store at the same time, even if you are one who doesn't connect easily (me!). She hugged me when I came in & had been crying over a personal loss and yet never missed a beat when other customers came in needing her assistance. Why is there NO mention of the FDA's Recall for your product from Salmonella?

Ok, so first, some background info: A good friend of mine recommended Woody's Pet Food & Deli to me as my cat's food had been recalled due to salmonella/E-coli/H1N2 (the revenge of Khan) for the SECOND TIME. His lovely orange buddy had had TERRIBLE allergies, lost a lot of his fur and weight, and was doing really poorly. My friend was recommended by another friend to Woody's, started feeding his orange buddy the raw rabbit and now...his cat is literally the picture of health. No joke, he believes Woody's food saved his cat's life. The BF and I have been loyal Woody's customers now for about 3.5 months and rely on them to feed both of our furry feline friends. Why I believe Woody's is *the cat's meow* (ba-dum tss!): #1: The quality of food for cats and dogs. You want human-grade free-range chicken? Done. Your dog or cat is allergic to chicken/poultry (which is not uncommon) and you need to feed them rabbit or venison? Done. You're like me and tired of your food being recalled due to sketchy packaging practices and are looking for a place you can rely on having good quality, fresh food? Done. And my cats, especially the super picky one, LOVE the food, i.e. "we are going to tear your face off if you don't feed us right now" love. Anyway, both of the cats look insanely healthy, their coats are super soft, one has lost weight...yay health! #2: Incredibly helpful, informative, patient staff. I ask a ton of questions because, well, my cat is my little lovely buddy and I only want the best for her. So...to say that I'm a bit...neurotic about questions is perhaps an understatement. Which is why I really, REALLY appreciate how patient, informative, and understanding the staff at Woody's is. I've always worked with the same woman, I feel terrible that I don't know her name, but she's fantastic. Willing to give samples, super knowledgeable about the product and pet health...I'm so impressed. #3: Cost efficient and you're supporting a local business! We have two cats - one is 8.5 months, the other is 8 years. We feed both of them food from Woody's. We typically get the 5lb container of raw chicken with supplements which costs around $17. That might seem like a lot, but for the level of quality we are getting, it's actually way cheaper than other places/brands. One container usually lasts us two weeks, while before, with other expensive food brands like Primal raw, we were easily spending $17 a week. So, not only are we saving money, we are also supporting a local business! Double win! I consider myself SUPER lucky to have such an amazing pet food supplier available. My dog has been off of canned dog food and kibble for over six months now. It's like we have a completely different dog! She's lost weight and looks very trim and healthy. She's calmer! Her fur is all cleaned up and dandruff free. She actually sheds less. Her bathroom habits are a dream (if you dream about that sort of thing). I will never be going back to regular dog food. We give our dog about half ground meat (usually turkey or chicken) and half sweet potatoes, since we can't afford to do all meat. We also give her a teaspoon of fish oil for her coat. I have received so many compliments from vets and groomers as well as people in the park about how beautiful she is. Woody's, the St. Paul location in particular, was awesome at helping us select and choose a diet that would be most beneficial for our dog as well as checking in and monitoring her health. The woman at this store always remembers us and when we bring our dog in, she is always talking about what our dog looked like before we changed her food. They are obviously very excited to see their food helping and improving the health and well being of dogs. I recommend this food for all dog owners even if you don't think there are issues with your dog's food. I promise you will notice a difference if you make the transition. Best of all, the combination of meat and potatoes ends up being cheaper than the high quality kibble we were feeding our dog. read more

I adopted my sweet kitty 9 months ago from a rescue, and embarked on a (long, hard) journey to find food that she would eat. Regular dry food? No. Regular canned food? No. Grain-Free dry/canned food? Sometimes. Finally, after exhausting the options found at Petco, I turned to Woody's. Thank goodness I did. My cat adores this food. If I run out and feed her dry food, she gives me the stink eye and eats it begrudgingly. When I serve her food from Woody's, she meows and jumps up and down, and can't wait to dig in. Her eyes are clear, her coat is soft and beautiful, she has tons of energy, and she's in excellent health. This food changed her life and I'm so glad I found it! This location is closest to my home, and my personal favorite (though the Woodbury & Mpls locations are great too.) The staff, particularly Mary Ann, is so wonderful. They are always pleasant and welcoming, knowledgeable, and genuinely care about your pet. I recommend Woody's Pet Food to any and everyone who has a pet. read more

After deciding to feed my kitties a raw diet, at first, I was making the raw food myself not knowing I had Woodys as an option. This was extremely messy and time-consuming, so when I found out about Woodys, I tried out their food and have not looked looked back. I've been a customer of theirs for about a year. Of course, when compared to commercial food, there are a ton of benefits to Woodys. However, even compared to making the food yourself, there are a lot of benefits. For example, there is no way I could regularly find meat like rabbit or venison in order to provide variety in their diet. Also, I went all around the cities trying to find the most economical decent quality chicken, and after you include the other ingredients and supplements you have to add to homemade cat food, Woodys is actually less expensive. I priced it out and it is also far cheaper than buying high-quality commercially prepared canned food. Aside from convenience and value, the people who work at my vet clinic are always complementing my kitties and how soft their fur is, how fast their nails grow, how clean their teeth are, etc. (The only downside to feeding this way is that their nails grow at an alarming pace, and I have to bring them into the vet to get their nails clipped every two weeks!) Others have already commented on the super friendly and helpful staff, which is absolutely true. In short, this place is wonderful and has saved me much time, money and mess over the past year! read more

My cat with food allergies and my other "normal" cat both love food from Woodys and they both are very healthy with great, thick coats and are at their perfect weights. The lady who works there is super nice - she gets to know you after a few visits and is always friendly and offers to help bring stuff to your car. I have been to this store four times. Twice I arrived about ten minutes before the early evening closing time -- as early as I could get there after work -- and both times I was hounded as soon as I walked in the door with words to the effect of "do you know what you want because we're closing in a minute." Despite the fact my dog's cardiologist has warned us against grain-free, boutique diets, I hustled over there once more, through not-light traffic, simply because my dog really likes the food. As soon as we stuck our heads in the door we were yelled at by the same person who is always there. There is a sign on the door asking customers with dogs to wait for her to put her own canine in the back before you enter. Apparently, you are supposed to press your nose up against the glass door so you know when this has happened. My small dog and I stood inches inside the door; I could see the owner putting her dog in the back; we waited; the dog was nearly gone. This wasn't sufficient. "Didn't you see the sign?" she yelled. I immediately found another sign: that of the exit. I want to support small businesses that have good intentions. But I have enough stress in my life; I want to be able to walk freely into a pet supply and be able to spend up five minutes knowing I will not encounter high-strung customer service. read more

I stopped in here on a whim, curious about what a "pet food deli" was, exactly, while I wait for my new kitten to arrive. I learned that Woody's supplies a selection of raw food for dogs and cats. The staffer was patient and friendly as she explained the health benefits of feeding pets a raw food diet. She also discussed the varieties of meat available, some with nutritional supplements and some without, and the fact that all of the meat is sourced from restaurant/"human quality" vendors. Amazingly, the cost to feed this diet is no more than, and in many cases less than, feeding a diet of "ultra premium" canned or dried commercial pet food. When I found out my new kitten's breeder also feeds her cats from Woody's (the Mpls. location) I was sold. Stop in and have a chat with these folks, it's well worth the time. read more

Woody's is the best place for those who want to feed their fur babies raw food (the healthiest thing for pets), but don't have the drive or time to buy and prepare the meat them selves. Or maybe have a fur baby that is not a good fit to eat meat and bones whole. I'm a dog groomer, and I know a lot of other groomers who feed raw. But for most of their kiddos they just give them a slab of meat right on the bone, and maybe an organ or two. That is great for those who can chew through that, as it also is very mentally and physically stimulating for any pet. However for me to find quality meat like that, and cut and prep it myself for a dog his size (9lbs), I just don't see it happening. Woody's is extremely convenient and cost effective, they work with a local facility to grind up all the meat/bones/organs (and supplements if you want them) into one container for you. They offer a wide variety of protein options for those picky eaters, sensitive stomachs, and/or allergy prone pets. Chicken and pork, to bison, rabbit, or deer. Mary Ann is incredibly knowledgeable, and is always able to help the newbie get started on raw feeding, as well as help a regular client troubleshoot any issues that might come up along the way (diarrhea, etc). She recommended to a really great probiotic for my boy, and told me where to get it. And has always helped me with any questions I have. Also, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays are fresh days. So you can call in the morning to have them set a fresh container aside in their fridge for you, that way you don't have to let it thaw for a day or so before portioning it out. And if there's ever a time when you're am running late after work, and won't make it over there until after they close, she is always willing to take payment over the phone, and drop the food out in their back entryway. Though I, myself work in Woodbury, and now that they have a Woodbury location, I mostly do business with that location for convenience wise. Oooh, and they also have large walk-in cages for cats that are up for adoption thru a local rescue! read more
