When we walked in we were greeted by the store pet (forgot the name :( ) but the cashier also greeted us as well, which was nice. We browsed around a bit but ultimately ended up just grabbing a few treats for the cats. Store was clean & organized, they had a large pet food section in the back. Parking in this area can be tricky (especially with the snow) but we were able to grab a spot out front. Overall we would definitely check this store out again! read more

I wasn't super impressed with Urban Tails, but maybe it was just an off day. If I were rating on food and treat selections, it'd be a clear 5/5. But the service and other options left me wanting more. After seeing so many great reviews about the friendly workers, I was surprised to have had the opposite experience. I had some questions about a product and was surprised that what the worker said was different than what the company has advertised and what was on the product itself. Unfortunately, this meant I didn't buy the product. The bully stick selection was also low for the little guys, and it sounded like they didn't have any to restock and also couldn't cut down the larger sticks. I come in the shop just about every week and everyone always remembers my dog(s) and me. I work with dogs and also foster them, so I've had my fair share of fosters that have some fearful or intense behaviors. Every single time they welcome us with open arms and are so excited to see how far the dogs have come, and how they have grown more comfortable. Our one dog in particular is fearful and was a bite risk (not a bite risk without taunting) and they took their time with him and now he loves going inside! I believe their patience and understanding is a big part of how he has come so far. Today I was checking out and they offered me a freebie bag with some extra samples because they were thankful of the work I do. I don't know how to thank them more but I was floored. This was huge for our little family because we have been low on income since the pandemic started. These little freebies made it possible for us to have extra treats for our pups. Urban Tails is not your typical pet store. It is so much more. Every time you walk into the store, you are pleasantly greeted by the staff and oftentimes the owners! They have several store cats who are always a treat to pet when you come in as well. This store has a wide variety of all pet needs all while maintaining quality. I recently moved, but still make the trek to this store because of the strong values they uphold. They even have a loyalty club, where if you buy 12 bags of food, you get one free - which is always a nice surprise! In addition to having great variety, they also offer training classes. My 6 month old rescue, Bella and I went to their puppy training classes. Bella is now 4 and one of the most well behaved dogs I know. I love that there's an awesome local pet store I can support! BEFORE VISITING So my partner & I made the life-changing decision to welcome a rescue dog into our lives. The night before our furry friend arrived, we did a quick run to Urban Tails an hr before it closed. Thanks to Yelp, I had a number of dog stores on my list to check out but this one was a priority since it was rated so high. When I saw the 5-stars, I honestly was skeptical but it totally makes sense! FIRST IMPRESSION I walked into the store & immediately felt at home and welcome. The vibe is like a cozy house vs. a warehouse. My husband & I were greeted by the most genuinely nicest employee, Grace. Because when she came over to help us, I blurted out that we are getting a dog tomorrow. I'm sure the panic in my voice was palpable. Grace had this amazing way of making me relax & share in my excitement, all while giving us practical advice & showing us different items in the store. She showed us a dog bed that happened to be on sale, dropped all this knowledge on dog food, joked around while we waited for our dog tag to be engraved, & gently informed me what pizzle treats are made of (pro tip: be careful when u Google this, ha). I also appreciated that she never felt pushy in selling anything and asked all these questions about our new dog, Sammy, like she actually cared! I saw her greet other customers by name when other folks walked in as well. DOG TRAINING When I first came to the store, the employee helping us asked if we'd looked into dog training. I mentioned that I looked on their website but that it seemed full. She immediately looked into it & in no time at all, we were signed up for their beginner class with Heather. It's $115 for 5 weekly Sunday classes (cheaper than another place I was looking into). I purposely held off on this Yelp review so I could report back to y'all. Heather is a no-nonsense instructor that is super experienced. You easily figure out that the class is not really for your dog, but for you! I highly recommend it, especially for new dog owners. It's based on positive reinforcement & also a bonding activity for your pup. It was also a way for our dog to get used to being around other dogs. The intro class is a mix of learning the basics while being able to ask individuals questions. Here's a few tidbits I learned: - "Bury the hate" - I laughed along with the rest of class when Heather said this but it's really sound advice. Instead of getting annoyed, stay calm cuz they can tell. - When he barks, look up & away so it doesn't seem like ur giving in to his demands. - To get him to come over to u, run away (don't run after him or else he thinks he is the leader) - If he pulls on the leash, just stop walking. - Don't be punitive when he growls or snaps because u want to encourage him to give warnings. - Don't push him away from the food, just cover the food. These were just a few of the things I was doing completely wrong ahead of the class that I've since corrected. The transformation of Sammy The Stubborn, was hard to see at first but he made huge strides between the 1st & last week and most importantly I'm feeling more confident that we'll continue to get better! EXTRA TIPS - Sign-up for their dog food reward program. - Get the free samples of dog food. - Sign-up for their listserv & get a $5 off coupon! - Definitely follow Urban Tails on Instagram. After my delightful 1st visit, I immediately followed them on every social media platform & love that they put out short videos with tips. - The only bummer about this place is the parking situation. Today was my first time ordering online from Urban Tails. We were running low on kibble for our dog, so I was glad to see that they offer same day pick up. During the COVID-19 crisis, this shop has really made shopping accommodating for social distancing. I received an email when my order was ready not long after placing my order, called the store when I was on my way, and they had my order waiting right in front of the store for me to pick up when I arrived - my husband wasn't even finished parallel parking the car when I came back with our order. Stopped here while on vacation because I wanted to see if there were any unique toys to take home for my cats. We love UrbanTails! This place is run well with love have has so much to offer. On Friday's they host a Hoppy Hour for bunny owners to socialize their bun-buns! There are two shop cats and a shop dog to satisfy your kitteh and pupper-petting needs. We buy our kitties hand-made nip toys made by a local artist and they go CRAZY for them! This month consists of a several huge life events: moving in with the boo, working on a big project for my job, and adopting a rescue dog named Cranberry! And more about the pup, my girlfriend has wanted a four-legged friend since F-O-R-E-V-E-R. I've never seen her this excited over anything... My girlfriend's birthday occurred yesterday, and while she was at work, I searched for the perfect gift. Massage? Did it last year. Gift card to a cute boutique? I would probably mess that up. A pair of tickets to Hawaii? I don't have that money... Then it hit me. The perfect gift would somehow involve Cranberry. I wandered over to Urban Tails Pet Supply, hoping that they could help. Upon stepping inside, I found myself greeted by two energetic and friendly ladies. I explained to them my I-need-a-gift-for-my-girlfriend's-birthday-and-we're-getting-a-dog situation, and they immediately suggested that I purchase a Legitimutt cranberry colored (of course) leather collar paired with a dog tag engraving. I perused through their selection and decided upon the bone shaped one with pink and purple hearts and the words, "I'm Adopted" on front. (Cue "awwws.") What's even more awesome is that Legitimutt is a USA brand. (Cue "U.S.A." chants.) So. Much. Genius. One would think that the awesomeness would stop there, but no! One of the women -I think the co-owner- loved the story so much that she took it upon herself to wrap the collar and tag in a pink base paper with white polka dots and attach a velvet heart sign (with bordered heart cutouts) that read "Happy Birthday." She even drew on two adorable paws! Everything came to bit over $40, which I thought was very reasonable. Once my girlfriend arrived home from work, I had the summer flowers, happy birthday card, decadent sweets, and doggy gift all arranged on the coffee table. My girlfriend immediately lunged her hands towards the polka-dot hotness, carefully unwrapped it, and started crying once she heard the jingle of the tags and saw the whole collar. She told me it was the "best birthday gift everrrrr." (+100 Boyfriend Points. #levelup) Then I hugged her for a really long time, while my shirt go soaked. Yeah. lol. Thanks, Urban Tails! (Review written on behalf of Harris, the goodest boy there ever was.) I first was introduced to Urban Tails when I had to do doggy training classes shortly after my adoption. The classes were well-run and informative, and I was even given a towel when taught to lie down because I do not like the cold floor! Because there are so many fun smells everywhere, I sometimes get so hyped that I pee. The staff is always very understanding and simply gives my Dad a spray bottle and a towel to clean up. They have my favorite treats ("No Hide" flour-based bones). It would take me about an hour to get through a whole one! My parents also get my dog food there -- the staff was very nice and informative in helping them choose the right diet for a small Chihuahua mix like me. I also get trembly when thunder comes, so Urban Tails helped set me up with CBD, which sets me at ease when squirted into my mouth. I hear Urban Tails even does delivery! During the pandemic, my parents just go to the pickup window outside the shop. It's very quick and contact-less. (They even gave me a treat when I sat like a good boy!) read more

They've managed to steal back the majority of my business from Chuck and Don's (who are awesome, but a bit of a trek for me). They've got very friendly and knowledgeable staff. The guy who helped me was quirky and lovely to deal with. There were a couple of kittens having a play while I was there. Adorbs. Huge selection of quality food, which saved my ass when my own feline princess decided she would eat NOTHING she regularly had before, little queen! Canned, raw, dry, freeze drying, dehydrated, you name it, they've got it. They even gave me a free sample of one of the foods. I've used their delivery service as well. This store recently opened in what used to be Urbanimal; however, the store is under new ownership. I stopped in during my weekly Wedge run and was really impressed! The store is bright and welcoming and I was immediately greeted and asked if I needed help. They have a large assortment of high-quality pet food and the prices are very reasonable. You might find slightly lower prices at a Petco or on Amazon but hey, I like supporting locally owned businesses and don't mind paying a little extra to do so. The reason I give it 5-stars is because of the extraordinary customer service. I had an armful of cat food cans and one of the store workers, who also ended up being my cashier, rushed over and gave me a basket. He was honestly one of the best cashiers I've ever had - very attentive, friendly and chatted with me about my cat without it seeming forced. I wish I could love this pet store because I live a block away, but it seems asinine that they exclusively stock grain-free cat food. I know for a fact grain-free is NOT better and that most cats don't need that diet. Heres a quote from a Slate article: "The prevalence of grain-free pet foods has been something of a head-scratcher for veterinarians, who largely see the movement as a solution in search of a problem. My dog has dry skin and I asked for a recommendation and the woman who helped was so knowledgable! Her advice saved us a costly vet visit and my dog is no longer uncomfortable! They always remember my dogs and give them plenty of treats (and even try different treats for my picky boy). The selection is fantastic as well. I always enjoy coming here. The staff is very helpful and friendly and have a wide range of different dog foods and items. I purchased dog booties for my dog as he hates walking on the cold snow and ice. I purchased a pair at Chuck and Don's the week before but they were too big; Urban Tail had more sizes which was great for my Chihuahua/terrier mix. My wife and I love this place (our animals also appreciate it!) They have a really cool perks program - you walk in and grab your card from an old-school library cabinet and present it at checkout. They total your purchases and (I want to say) after the 7th or 8th visit, you earn back a percentage of the value you've spent. Okay, maybe I need to pay closer attention, but there is just something fun about getting to find our card every time we come in. We love the products and access to high-quality pet foods. The location is fabulous - I don't know if we are supposed to, but we use the parking lot that is next to the complex. The people who work at Urban Tails are top-notch. They seem to know us when we walk in and reference previous questions or purchases to see how it is going for our animals. I don't know how they do it, but it really makes us feel awesome to walk in that place! They are super helpful finding appropriate products for our animals. We recently bought a beautiful collar for our pit-mix, Maple. The collar was super cool and we were excited about it, but after about a month of wear, we noticed that it was scratching our pooch's neck and causing her a pretty significant rash. Now, I don't believe the product to be dysfunctional or low-quality - simply, our dog has such little hair, it feels like just looking at her can cause her to form a rash... it is pretty annoying. On any other dog, the collar would not have been an issue, but our dog basically has the same amount of hair as that naked mole rat on "Kim Possible." I slightly rough edge by the clasp was rubbing her hairless neck - when weighted down by her tags and constant rubbing from walks and playing in our yard, she was scratchy, red and a bit scabby. ...I digress... Anyway, they let us return the collar for store credit even without a receipt and said they would mention the issue we were having to the company. On another note, they are super helpful with ordering specific products. As I mentioned, our dog has very thin and wiry hair. Her stomach is smoother than my own (and I am not a hairy guy [and maybe that was too much to share via a Yelp review?!]) so Minnesota winters propose a challenge. With a pitty build of a very narrow waist but deep and broad chest, it can be hard to find appropriate winter-wear for Maple. Last year, one of the people from Urban Tails spent, like, twenty minutes helping us fit our dog for a jacket - when they didn't have the color we preferred, they ordered one special for us. It was delivered within a week! Now my wife and I have matching winter coats with our dog... maybe we are a just a bit much...
