My appointment was at 9:45, and I was out the door at 9:51. I know it's not always like this, but a delightful experience.

Ridiculous how you can't get through to these people. Really don't want to go there for nothing just to get a question answered

I f you do not have a reservation for this location be prepared to wait over 3 hours as reservation customers are taken first. I filled out the paperwork, waited 50 mins, walked up to the counter, said hi and nothing else, the clerk was already mad, took my paperwork, barked at me asking if i was purchasing a MA ID (which my paperwork already confirmed). I said yes. She then barked at me to stand in front of the blue background to take the picture, as if I was supposed to have read her mind. She took the picture, confirmed I had a citation and reinstatement fee to pay if i wanted to renew my driver's license, and then called her boss to confirm everything. The clerk and her boss spoke to each other calmly while looking at the clerk's computer. Then her boss barked at me as soon as she looked at me, asking if i was paying cash or card. I said cash. I paid for the MA ID. Then I asked if i could pay the other fees online because the total balance was more than what the RMV website said the previous day, and so now I was short on cash. The clerk said no (to which I later found was not true. You can pay online), then I said I just want my paper temporary ID right now so i can leave. The clerk handed it to me, and then i left. I left feeling way worse than when i arrived. Rude clerk and boss, AND misinformation given to me by her regarding how to make payments. 0 for 2. Doesn't get worse than that. Can we get some better public service please? More competence and accountability please?!? Just seems like a free for all over there the way the staff behave. They choose to be kind if they want to, but there's no consequences if they choose not to. And it's by and large the female staff that have horrible attitudes, AND THAT IS PLAIN WRONG. Here's my receipt if you ever wanna do some oversight: L1722418096

I haven't been to the DMV in more than a decade, since I'm an AAA member and go there for my…read morelicense renewal and Real ID update. I was gifted a preferred plate and needed to make a trip to transfer them to my vehicle. I may have been able to do this via the mail, but since I had a narrow timeframe, I opted to go in person. Reservations for the main location in Cranston generally book 2-3 weeks out. I made 2 appointments for the same day, one for the morning and the other for the afternoon in case I needed to gather additional information and didn't want to wait another 2-3 week for an appointment. One good thing about COVID is that it forced a restructuring of the DMV, which ended up being better for customers and employees, so many of the updates are still in place today. Step 1: make your reservation online for the day, time, and location you want to visit Step 2: arrive during your scheduled time Step 3: security will ask to see your confirmation before allowing you access to the building Step 4: wait in the check in line and hope that you have all of the forms and documents you need to get whatever you came for done Step 5: get called to the check in window (there are 4 of them) Show the employee behind the plexiglass your confirmation number, hand over your paperwork and forms for them to review and validate. If you have everything that you need, you receive a deli style ticket with a number on it and get to proceed to the upstairs waiting area. If you don't have all the paperwork and forms you need, you'll need to straighten that out before you go any further Step 6: wait in the second floor waiting area. The seats are so worn out that the faux leather is completely work off, leaving a spongy foam cushion to sit on. Even with an appointment, I waited 40 min for my number to be called Step 7: when your number is called, proceed to the numbered booth/window the automated system told you to enter and hand your paperwork over to the employee sitting behind that plexiglass. This person may or many not be friendly, but as long as they can take care of what you went to the DMV for, that doesn't matter. Pay your fee, collect your receipt, and leave.

They took over some defunct retail space, which is a good idea, as it offered a lot of space and plenty of parking. They opened a few minutes early, and I found myself in a line of about 20 people, the gentlemen in front of me lamented that their website advertises Senior hours on Wednesday at 9am to 10am, but this didn't seem to be enforced. I'd say about 75% of the people looked like seniors. The line moved quickly, within 5 minutes I was given a number and told to have a seat. There is an abundance of seating, the space looked neat and clean. They have large flat panel screens and a clear announcement of each queue number that is called. About 30 minutes later my number was called. The woman who assisted me was polite, professional and knowledgeable. Five minutes later, I walked out with a new registration and plates. Overall, a pretty good experience!

Front concierge grey haired lady was super nice and efficient, explained things clearly. Easy to know when my number was called and where to go. The man who did my license photo and MA Real ID was awesome. I would give a 5 star for those people and maybe a 4 star for the website, where it is not 100% clear how to do the out of state title and reg. And here is the one star part. I have never been made to feel SO stupid SO fast by anyone. Nobody in my family or friend group would EVER speak to a stranger the way the lady at counter 1 talked to me - like I am an idiot, when yes I made a mistake in an answer, but she acted like I was an imbecile and like I was going out of my way to make her life harder, when the opposite was true - I went in so organized, hoping to do it all right, polite, cheerful, kind, and open, ready to have a good transaction. So first she wanted to know why I couldn't do my reg and title AFTER I had my 10:40 appt and I explained someone at her office already said I should do it beforehand. So she was pretty pissed about that and didn't want to help me. And then she asked "Do you have a MA credential" and I said "No, I just have CO," and she was pissed about that, but she started entering my SSN and she said "You DO have a MA credential, why didn't you tell me?" and I said sorry, that I haven't lived here in 20+ years and I didn't understand that she meant did I EVER have one, and then she kept saying how I was wrong, making extra work for her, and she could SO EASILY have just said "It's OK hon, no big deal," but instead she said "I ASKED you three times, I can't believe this, I'm never going to get out of here," (mind you it was still like 9:15 am) and then she said "I ASKED you if you ever had a MA credential" and I said "I'm sorry, I thought you meant a current one," and I was absolutely shaking with adrenaline but didn't want to make a big deal because she had all the control over whether I could complete my task so I just stood calmly. After a few moments of her doing the tasks on her end, which she did quite efficiently, and me getting my breathing under control, I did get to write the check and I said thank you, and I got the license plates I needed, and I said, "I'm sorry this was so much more complicated than you wanted," and at THAT point she was like "It's ok, thanks for your patience, bye honey" and all that stuff, but I was still struggling not to cry before my license photo an hour later. Maybe she has some issue where she has to make people feel bad before she can then give them the gift of kindness, I hope she has a better day today.
