I want Management to know that their strongest asset is their people! In particular, a delightful young woman who runs the front desk by the name of Mel Schiller. She is quite literally the face and the voice of the place called The Beaufort-Jasper YMCA! Mel is so very welcoming, capable, and positive! Wise beyond her years with such a strong "can do" work ethic! I recently switched up my insurance coverage and Mel was instrumental in helping my navigate all of my options. I hope that you know what a positive difference she makes in my day, when I don't see her smiling face upon entering your lobby (for my two and a half hours workout, three times a week) I don't feel the same sense of community as I do with Mel so masterfully welcoming and multi tasking all the many responsibilities she has at the front desk, for so many of us, and all with a great big smile on her face! She has true heart and a strong commitment to member service satisfaction.

Wanting a place closer to my home, I booked a 90 minute massage with Michelle. The neighborhood is like a mini Habersham.....oozing with Southern charm. The facility itself houses a decent size fitness room, a large outdoor pool, and spa services. I was greeted warmly and escorted to the ladies "locker room". It was a very well equipped and aesthetically pleasing space complete with sauna, showers, lavatories, and lockers. I was provided with a luxurious robe and slippers. I stored my personal belongings there and then headed to the spa service area. The atmosphere was comforting and the room was nicely furnished. After a brief chat with my therapist, we were off to the massage room. Before Covid, I regularly sought out this service but because of the pandemic, I had not participated in this activity for months. Michelle was outstanding, listened to all my requests and found my pressure tolerance quickly. I felt so much better afterwards. The release of tension, knots, and stress was instantaneous. I was hooked and reserved a spot for the following week. Even though the prices are substantially higher than Massage Envy, it's hard not to appreciate the extra perks a customer gets i.e. use of the sauna, the pool and the fitness room for the day of your service. These are definitely value added incentives for you to enjoy without being a club member. The best part too was that for a couple of hours, I felt like I was on vacation. In actuality, I was just a very short drive from home and I felt sooooooo much better.

We had small and large requests, and all of them were either met, or a good work around was found. The general manager, Jackie, met with us on our initial visit and helped us come up with a plan that included the therapies of interest. We met Maegan, the nurse practitioner who is in charge of all the infusions. I think it is such a benefit for the clients to know there is a nurse practitioner on premise. Meagan was able to explain the different infusion options and their benefits. We felt very comfortable with our selections, knowing that Maegan had a plan on how to administer these infusions in the best possible manner. An option I'd never heard of was a "facial" for your scalp. It was basically a deep cleaning to remove all the buildup of hair products and oils that your shampoo leaves behind. It was an easy, and actually enjoyable treatment. You will be amazed at the amount of product residue they can remove from your scalp and your head will feel so clean at the end of the treatment!! This place also offers, cryotherapy, red light therapy , IR sauna, an oxygen chamber and several other options. I really enjoyed how they helped me take care of myself!! I will definitely return.

Like rotten food sitting there for a week. 4). The hallways for the rooms are unbearably dirty and need to be vacuumed. It's nasty, musty, and warm. 5). For our stay, we had two different rooms for each night according to the booking site. We were assured we'd have the same room for both nights and that we could leave our luggage in the room. But based on how disorganized they were during the check in process, we didn't trust them. Sure enough, we ended up in a different room. 6). For whatever it's worth, the rooms themselves are nicely kept. But overall, this hotel is very worn out and mismanaged. 7). Final note, the water pressure in the shower is absolute garbage. If you'd even consider the term "pressure," you'd be wrong. So shocking considering the hotel is literally surrounded by water. 8). EDIT: as I'm just about to eat breakfast and leave... there's no plate in the microwave, to top it all off.

When we arrived around 7:00 p.m. to check in, our rooms weren't ready. While this was inconvenient, it wasn't the biggest issue. The manager offered to let our kids swim in the indoor pool while we waited, which seemed like a nice gesture. Unfortunately, the pool itself looked dirty and didn't feel clean, so it wasn't a pleasant experience. About 30 minutes later, we received our room keys. One room appeared to be ready, but the second room clearly was not. It hadn't been vacuumed, there were no clean towels (only dirty towels left behind from the previous guests), the pillows had been stripped and left on the floor, and the pull-out couch still had dirty sheets and blankets on it. It was obvious the room had not been properly cleaned or prepared for new guests. We called the front desk to request clean towels and pillows. A short time later, an employee entered our room with his own key without knocking or announcing himself. One of my children was undressed and getting ready to shower. That should never happen and was a serious invasion of our privacy. The front desk employee we spoke with afterward was very apologetic and did everything he could to make things right. He was the only positive part of our stay. The next morning, several members of our family noticed bites after showering. Then, the day after we returned home, my children began complaining that their heads were extremely itchy. When I checked, I discovered they had lice. We had no issues before our trip, and immediately after returning home we had to spend several hundreds of dollars on lice treatments, replace pillows, wash and sanitize bedding and clothing, and spend hours treating our home and family. Given everything we experienced, the delayed check-in, filthy and unfinished room, dirty pool, an employee entering our room without knocking, the bites, and discovering lice immediately after our stay, I contacted the hotel and requested a refund. The manager said he would have to investigate the issue before issuing a refund and said he would follow up the next day. Of course, no response the following day. We're still going back and forth about a refund. Aside from the lice and bug bite situation, an employee helping himself into our room with permission is unacceptable. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was unacceptable from start to finish. I cannot recommend staying at this hotel, and I hope management takes these issues seriously so other families don't have a similar experience.
