One star for being 24-hours. One star for nice and helpful staff. When I started my membership in April, I loved the machines and the fact that there's a separate section for ladies. They remodeled by getting rid of the machines that were in the ladies' area and moving the old machines from the common area into the ladies' area. The ab crunch machine now requires you to fully engage your arms and pectorals (which I am not supposed to do, by doctor's orders), and the leg press requires you to push up the entire chair part on which you sit, instead of the previous machine where you pushed the foot platform down. They also shrunk the height of the privacy walls by several feet so that every person that passes peers over the wall, which completely defeats the purpose of the separate section. I wish I didn't pay for a year membership in advance. I don't care how cheap it is, it's useless to me now. Everything else that I do at the gym is stuff I can just do at home. read more

This gym is perfect in every way. It's spacious and the equipment is an in good working order. The gym culture is nice and respectful. The employees are super helpful. Multiple TVs with devices to listen at any piece of cardio equipment. The price is definitely right! Definitely worth checking out. read more

I was in town for vacation & looking for a gym. This place is okay, depending on what you are looking for. It is small & has equipment, but there were so many rules posted (& labeled, literally) EVERYWHERE, I was afraid to make any noise or do anything. I was able to get the job done, but had to find another gym for the rest of my trip because of their "no deadlifting" rule. I wish the strict rules would have been posted somewhere online before I went there just so I would've been aware & could've continued my search. The staff was friendly, the equipment useful, & I think it is a great place if you are looking for something small. If you are a serious lifter & have serious lifting to do, this is not the gym for you. read more

THIEVES!!! Absolutely fraudulent business practices. I purchased a one year membership for my son last month...no one said anything about them moving to the island. We live on the north end of town and the previous location was already too far for a gym membership, but it was bearable; the island location will not work with his schedule. They are refusing to return calls and refuse to discuss any option for a retroactive refund; citing Florida Statutes "because it is less than 5 miles from the old location, they are under no obligation to offer a refund"....that's great customer service (0 stars should be an option). read more

World Gym - Gyms Near Me - St. Augustine, Florida

My husband and I both Paid 1 year in advance for a VIP membership at the US 1 location. The VIP membership included group fitness classes. The US 1 location closed with less than 1 week notice. It is being merged into the Island location. Because it is less than 5 miles away, they are not refunding any memberships, but offering the island location as a "merged" facility and citing FL statutes as the basis for no refunds. The new location does not offer group fitness classes, we are devotees of indoor cycling classes. They offered to extend our "merged" membership to compensate for the group fitness classes we paid for but are going elsewhere to participate in at additional cost. Refunds of the prepaid VIP memberships should be made as just the right thing to do. read more

UPDATE: Again, great gym and decent staff. They get ppl in by selling a year deal. Issue is the year deal is not a year deal and only able to be canceled without a fee (they say 50, it's actually 32.00 or According to the contract with two months notice) after 14 months. I love 24 hour access and would give this 5 stars if it wasn't for the contract in my opinion. But go sign up and decide for yourself. If this gym had a TRUE 12 month deal without the special wording I'd say this is the best gym in St. John's by far and at the best price hands down. I'd suggest joining without qualm or question. It still is the best one with the contract as it is constructed. The owner called after my original review. I was told he did call me to speak man to man. He then began to try and question me about why I would say that he too was a snake, which I did in my original review. I thought it was odd and at first felt that it was to intimidate me into changing the review. While I do feel it's unfair to give them 2 stars because of the quality and value I'll change it to 4, it would be 5 if not the 14 months. When talking about my feelings about the 14 vs 12 months he began to say that it was my interpretation and it was not true. But would not commit to it being a 12 month deal. Afterward he argued with me back and fourth and threatened to take away my membership for a YELP REVIEW, he didn't though. So here is my new issue, is my information marked, I am going to wait and see if I am or will be treated in any way, which I doubt. I do not think the staff which is excellent would do this. Below in parentheses is my original except, which I will finish commenting on below. ---Full Disclosure- I made a serious error in my last post, when I made mention to a pervert who worked there. He did, however it was at a different address and was 2013 not 2017. After talking to the owner the ONE THING that I took from that call was he was truly upset by this and and put in safeguards to ensure this will never happen again. We took a month's membership while in St Augustine Beach on vacation. At home I am at the gym regularly and look forward to going, but here I had to force myself to go. I hated it. A lot of the equipment is too close together. At times when it was so crowded I felt like I had a training partner. I also thought a lot of the equipment was old and doesn't work as smoothly as it should. But that wasn't my main gripe. They have a workout area upstairs and I found myself going up there just to have more space. If we come down here again, we're going to find another gym. I don't use aerobic equipment because I run outdoors, but I couldn't believe how close the machines were. By the way, my wife said the women's area had old, worn equipment, some pieces didn't even work. The free weights and mats seemed like someone's leftovers. read more

This place is a complete fraud. I signed up for a year, prepaid, then they closed for business 9 days later. I have contacted management (Tracy Jones and Mike Lynch) multiple times and have been avoided at all cost. They simply said I can work out at the other location that offers no classes. I signed up for the US 1 location, which I made clear upon signing up, only to be scammed out of 300 dollars. Even after the entire staff knew this location was closing, they continued to take money for memberships at the US 1 location. I have filed complaints with the BBB, Citibank, and the state attorney generals office for consumer affairs. After and if all that fails, I will simply take them to small claims court. I would recommend anyone who was defrauded by this company and the management team to file a claim with the BBB and state attorney generals office. What they did is fraud, plain and simple. World gym is a giant rip off, of both TIME and MONEY. I had the VIP card, meaning I could go to both locations to work out, unlimited tanning, and childcare. The owner, Mike Lynch, sold the US1 location WITHOUT giving notice to any of his clientele, the very people who pay his bills! So for our trouble with the VIP membership and losing benefits, he knocked $5 off the monthly cost. Big deal, that's not enough money to even begin to cover the pain in my ass over this! Customer service has never been his goal. I complained for MONTHS on end about the bulbs in the tanning bed needing to be replaced....Never happened. For months, the same blue painters tape was on every bulb that needed to be replaced. What's the point in paying for VIP that includes tanning if I have to also GO to an ACTUAL tanning salon, instead of to the one at the gym that I already pay for?!?! The bulbs were never changed because it wasn't a priority. Every member of World Gym is/was just a bank account that is/was drafted every month. That's all. I am so glad that I cancelled my membership today and got the hell outta that place. I was also gonna have to pay 50 bucks just to leave, but the lady behind the counter was nice enough to see that I was billed the previous week so she knocked it down to $35 instead. It should've been $0 PLUS a refund for how dirty they operate and how TERRIBLE their customer service is. I will get on every social media platform available to tell the world to spend their money elsewhere. I hope World Gym loses every last customer they have and has no choice but to close up shop. My wife insisted on joining. The big sign, and local media, advertises 99.99 a year land locally owned and managed. Inside they add a 43.50 basic fee. The staff said it is a corporate ordered addition. Not local. I hope this will not be like many of the gyms that draw in many people the close. I do not trust them and will be sitting outside whenever my wife is inside. Seems like a very sketchy place. I give World Gym a zero! In my opinion all they care about is money and do not honor their agreements. Information changes depending on who you talk to and they are quick to treat you badly if you have a problem. They do no follow up and my experience is they only document information that benefits them. I would think twice before joining. read more
