i used to come to cost plus for champagne / sparkling wine back when i was a tippler. but now i go for the vast array of european holiday foods & candy, particularly the niederegger marzipan, which is the best in manufactured marzipan. yes i've done taste tests. other marzipans have too much sugar in the mix, and lose the almondy flavor that is a hallmark of good european marzipan. niederegger, a german company, makes a number of permutations of chocolate covered marzipan, logs, bars, and my new favorite, small 1.5" loglettes that have just the right ratio of marzipan to chocolate. it's early enough in the season that it's safe to buy packaged marzipan without pinching the bar -- but in a few months, if you find yourself jonesing for it & it's on sale, it's probably stale. this you will discern by the absence of 'give' when you pinch a bar. read more

This place is a fantastic spot to kill an hour or so. I always wander around, check out the spices and foodie aisles, look around the sweets, and yeah, of course, check out the wine selection! This place probably would have gotten another star a year ago when their wine selection was a little more exciting (and their clearance section was fuller!). Now it's basically a notch above supermarket wine level, but there are a couple of gems to be found here (they used to carry a few Ridge wines, which was awesome, and now just the entry-level Three Valleys, which is still a fantastic value for a jammy, rustic zinfandel). They also have Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc for the best price I've ever seen... I usually put back half of the stuff I grab, but I always find tons of great stuff. It's a great place to gift shop as well, seeing as how they stock lots of little food and wine gadgets which I love to give, as well as nice decanters and stemware. I went there today and let me tell you the employees are so rude and they don't even try to help you or even acknowledge you're there, and don't get me started with management... horrible ! I went to buy some gifts, one of the things I purchased was the rose petals which on the shelf said it was 25% off I went to the register and she rang me up and I said the rose petals were 25% off did you include that and she said "oh no I didn't" and printed my receipt out and I told her to go check for me and she did and she came back and said oh yeah this is the sign and today's the 8th this was for yesterday which was the 7th and I said then you guys shouldn't have put that there it's not right and she said " well it's how my manger wants it" I can't believe that they put signs up for the wrong dates that's false advertisement and they should've given me that 25% since it was already on the shelf. This is one of my favorite stores, and the Glendale location is my favorite world market although the new burbank location is a close second. This one is much larger and carries such a wide variety of items that the other locations don't carry. I was able to find unique hardware for my dining room credenza for only $5 a piece. The selection in shelving and furniture is also really pretty and unique. My only issue is with the condition of merchandise. You really have to look through to make sure your items don't have dings or chips. read more

I purchased 90% of my Christmas presents at this CPWM. The beauty is that I didn't even have anything in mind to purchase for half the people on my list. But things just appear to you that are perrrfect for certain people in your life: $19.99 Chimay fat glass with 3 bottles - poof! My sister just was raving about Chimay and how much she enjoys it at my birthday dinner last month! $1.99 - 6.99 Kokeshi items, because my other sister just LOVES little asian things. Others always burn incense when I go to their homes - alas, incenses from India in all types of brands and packaging. Aunts and coworkers who love fragrant candles and soaps, you can find really unique ones here. Even things for my dog were found - decorated doggie Christmas cookies, and a fabric indoor Gingerbread Doghouse with a little pillow inside! I didn't get them on this latest trip, but THE cutest gift bags and tissues are there. I really don't like spending money on the bags to hold the real gift inside, but for someone really special they have super unique beaded, glittered, purse-like, etc gift bags. I'll also be back for their exotic looking throw pillows, place mats, and little snackies and wines that you've only seen on your travels abroad. The store is huge too, so I'd imagine you'd always find some unique gift when needed, or something to spruce up your drab home with a little spicy accent! read more

I wanted to give it 2 stars because I called in advance regarding the up to 50 percent off sales some weeks prior and went to look at a wooden table and the table was $1600...the sales person on the phone also mentioned that I would be responsible for arranging moving for any furniture and also assembly: double bummer. If you are coming here for a lot of little things (canvas art, towels, treats, small gifts) go for it. But don't come here for your apartment or home expecting a deal. Beautiful store but I felt like everything on the floor (furniture, chairs) was priced so high you could go anywhere. In that same vein, I just saw a World Market Writers Desk very shabby chic for only $75 on Craigslist. For some people who cannot afford retail furniture you have to be creative. read more

I love this store! It has so many cultural goodies. I have bought so many pairs of eating from here and I always get compliments on them. They only cost me $5 bucks!!!! I mean I know they arnt made of silver or gold but luckily I don't get metal allergies. Their furniture is super cute but pricy:/ I always find myself buying candy from here. They have all the good old fashion kind that other stores don't sell. Plus there have an array of unique glass bottles sodas and beers to choose from. La la love this place. Some of the furniture is nice, but most of time when I go, I'm looking at the food, wine, kitchen and gifty type items. Nice variety of wines and international food, plus there's a little section of picnic basket stuff (tiny Nutella, split bottle of champages, etc). Okay, let's say, we're going to be very bad for just a minute and eat candy, don't go to the regular old market, come here. Indulge and frickin' enjoy. Candy from all over the world. During the holidays, this store is a good save-your-behind place when you have to buy gifts for folks you don't know so well. Oh and they have nice tiny selection of spices. This is my favorite Cost Plus for convenience and staff who are always friendly and ready to assist. It never seems busy when I go. They have a variety of different items from all over the world, some very unique and interesting. For instance, a friend recently went to Japan and brought back green tea flavored Kit Kat bars. Yesterday, I saw them here! The furnishings they carry are varied, and sometimes they have some great sales. They also carry wine and beer, which my husband really likes! Their coffee is also pretty good (I especially like their Sumatra since I like a strong, dark roast) and they have a variety of different roasts for different tastes. read more

I came in to pick up my online order. It was ready as expected. I inspected all the glass vases and they were perfect! Unfortunately my pick up experience left more to be desired. When I entered the store there weren't many customers. The cashier was already upfront near the cash wrap. I informed her I was here to pick up an online order and she became really annoyed. I had my email ready so I was able to locate the last 4 of the order number that she assumed I knew I was supposed to tell her. (I didn't know, the email didn't say "have the last 4 ready"). She then walked a few feet to the online order pick up cabinet and checked me out. The whole thing took less than 5 min but she was becoming increasingly annoyed and rude. Where would I be without Cost Plus? We get everything here. This is the first place we come when we need anything around the house. We decided it's Summatime, and this means grilling. We got a bbq at Home Depot, but we needed an outdoor table and chairs. Hello Cost Plus! We got an awesome table with a bench on one side and three other chairs. We also got an umbrella and some fun outdoor lights. In the past, we purchased our fabulous living room curtains here, our awesome couch in the study, and some wonderful rugs. They also have great food stuff...like British cookies and Cafe Du Monde French Roast. I love their wine selection too! You have to get the 2007 Beaujolais Villages Red Burgundy. It's amazing! And it's something like $12. Whenever we have a party, we stock up on great random worldy beers, wines and snacks. This place is almost too good to be true! read more

Cost Plus is one of the stores I love coming to just to walk around and look at all the various products they sell. My last visit was just before my daughter was born a couple of weeks ago and I came to compose a gift basket for the nurses at the hospital. (A tradition we started when we had our first daughter.) Cost Plus has a very large selection of goodies to put in a gift basket which ends up being cheaper than buying a pre-made basket which doesn't have nearly the amount of goodies in it, as well, we can create the basket to reflect more of our personality. Aside from this area, the rest of their grocery area is stocked with international foods that are hard to find in any local supermarket and is more name brand (from those countries) rather than Trader Joe's where it's all their brand replicas of international foods. Both my wife and I are pretty adventurous in the kitchen and love making different foods that usually require some weird utensil which is usually found here, as well, they have some very nice ideas for meal presentation with an assortment of bowls, plates, glasses and linens which help set the mood for any dining occasion. The furniture and paintings aren't really in my taste which knocks a star off for me as a large portion of their store is the furniture. It looks pretty low grade Pottery Barn for an International store. I'd rather see home furnishings from countries they sell food from. At this Glendale location which is in a complex with several other great stores, I've always found the staff to be helpful and the lineups are rarely long, even during the holiday season when the store is pretty busy. Now, trying to park at this location is a bit of a nightmare because Glendale is known for bad drivers and they all shop at this complex. You may reduce your risk of a heart attack by parking in the nearby neighborhoods and taking a short walk to the store, unless you go later in the evening when the lot is less stressful! read more

I've never had a better retail experience than here at this Cost Plus World Market in Glen Dale. I came in to buy a new desk and office chair. An amazing customer representative Isaiah found me and answered all my questions regarding the furniture I was interested in. He was positive, quick, attentive, and even helped me get the best deal by stacking coupons. Isaiah and another employee Paul were also really helpful moving all the furniture into my car being really careful not to damage anything. I've usually have had great experiences shopping at World Market stores and I have to say it keeps getting better and better. There was a huge 50% sale for furniture going on since last weekend and so it was a great opportunity for us to finally get a new sectional couch that I've been keeping an eye on for a while. We had to call several places to see who had it in stock and bingo, Glendale did...however the store manager, Angela said that while it was in stock she was not sure if it was already assigned to customer and so she promised my hubby that she would call back after she talked to her GM. Sure enough 20-30 mins later, she calls back and confirms that they could sell the couch to us and said she would put it on hold for us at the store. We get to the store a few hours later and was able to meet Angela in person too! The other store staff helped us load it in the van for us as well - everyone was extremely helpful over there. Scott (I believe his name tag said supervisor) has literally become my own person home designer. The times I have returned he instantly remembers stuff i have bought in the past and shows me things that might match! How can he possible remember!? (Bookshelf, couch , wall art). I forget how fun it is to peruse all the items in Cost Plus World Market. It's filled with pretty much everything I love - home decor, furniture, kitchenwares, imported foods and alcohol :) It's not that big of a store which is good - there are plenty of things to look at and that are in stock but not too much to overwhelm the senses. COWM is great for gift-giving because you feel like you're buying something a little more special than from any other store. My husband and I recently joined as members to receive Explorer Rewards and save $1-$3 off alcohol which is a really great deal! It'd be a great way to try new things (as well as a way for them to make a buck off of me.) The workers are usually very friendly and helpful, and that parking lot is always pretty full, so good luck with that. I don't shop here too often, but when I do it's always pleasant. Being a new member will probably get me to shop here a little more though. read more

Popped in last week to look for two new dining room armchairs to flank the ends of the dining table. They were having an impeccable sale but unfortunately were out of the concrete colored armchairs I have been in search of for months. I did receive a 10% coupon for next time, which I plan on using eventually for something big. I love coming in to cost plus, the smell alone takes me back to my childhood when I use to frequent this chain with my Mom. Those were the best days, we would all be allowed one thing, a toy or some random ingredient we could later use on dinner. That is where my adventurous cooking side has stemmed from. This place is effing fantastic. I had no idea. I went to Whole Foods looking for a spice and since they ran out, the clerk suggested I go to Cost Plus World Market. "Really?", I thought to myself, "don't they only sell pillows and wicker chairs?". I was way off. Yes, all the furniture and ethnocentric decor is up in the front but in the back there is food and alcohol! I found a lot of other spices I wanted to try and they were cheap to boot. And just as I was rounding the corner to the Indian food, my boyfriend spots the bottle of Lindeman's cherry lambic we've been looking everywhere else for. Cost Plus had it!! And again, at a price I couldn't refuse. I'm definitely going to revisit this place for more adventures in food and alcohol. I love your chocolate noms section, the pringles kind, the Flake 99 and the never-ending collection of Lindt dark chocolate. How will I ever become bikini-ready?! Always cute home decor too, some way overpriced, but sometimes you'll find a great deal. Like the tealight chain I found over the weekend for only $12! Walking into the snacks and soda section, I thought I must have been in a dream. How could it be possible that they carry so many of my favorite snacks? Strawberry Pocky, Kinder Bueno, Bunderburg Root Beer.. I was so ecstatic! They even carry Heinz Baked Beans which I love to add them as a breakfast side to eggs and crispy bacon. To think that these were such easy items before I came to LA and now, these items are so hard to come by. I really like the miniature bottles of goodies they sell- olive oil, maple syrup to clotted cream. I thought they make cute, little yet practical gifts. Need gift bags? Oh yes they do! In many different shapes and sizes, it's hard to just pick one! Need beautiful, affordable furniture/ accent pieces? They have it and feel free to ogle at the unique pieces with me. We bought a papasan (Mr's wish item) that came with a free accompanying stool since it was on sale and what made the deal sweeter was that I could use the 15% discount member's coupon on top it. Customer service was great too- A customer service representative was right there to help us load the papasan onto a trolly and into our car. This store is awesome, they have the weirdest choices of candies, alcohol, noodles, sauces, even scarves and jewelry. I bought some Tabasco Chocolate here - where else are you going to find that? & some chocolate covered biscuits so I could try the TimTam slam that's well known in Australia - Cost Plus did me some justice and was the only store to sell the right biscuits. read more

I am regular customer of World Market at any location. I love so many things in this store. I go into WM for sangria and tea lights and come out with a bill for 150.00 or like yesterday 700.00 plus. This is the second time I visited this location i just discovered in Glendale, California. Yesterday 2-25-2022 , I was looking at a table and I asked a question to salesperson walking by , who I later found out was sadly one of the managers, named Michael. He was so dismissive of me and clearly doesn't care about customer service. I asked the if the table was on sale because of sign that said " save" and if it came in a darker color. Michael responded no to both of my questions and walked away. Then I remember I had met this same sales person before on my first visit and his attitude was just as rude then. It all came back to me . This store happens to be near many restaurants I frequent. I walked away from the area, got the items I needed and had plan to buy here and ready to leave, but I saw a younger sales person and decided to ask for the manager on duty. She saved the day!! She might be new in the store but she made it her business to correct the lack of customer service and to made sure I was well taken care of. Alissa apologized for the other person's arrogant behavior, not knowing it was a manager. She offered to help me, responded to all my questions and without being pushy helped me and I decided to buy the table and benches. There was a discount through my membership and other promotions that the first salesperson ( Michael) didn't know or cared to find out. It was a good day for me: I got something my mom will appreciate and the store benefited from my sale. I am the kind of person who commends great customer service. I feel it's the right thing to do. I always make sure the supervisor or manager knows how well their employees represent the business and I do Yelp about them. The line became so long and my purchase was a bit more time consuming; the other manager Sal and Elissa both helped me to check out and arranged assembling and delivery of all the entire dinning room set in only 3 hours! How amazing is that? They used a service called Lugg which I never heard of. Alissa was such an angel up to the last minute. The app was given us trouble and didn't work in the middle of the transaction. Sal and Elissa didn't just give up and told me to go home and unload Lugg. Elissa had 30 minutes for her shift to end but both assured me that they would finalized the process before she ended her shift. That's exactly what happened. it was challenging even for them to work through the hurdles of the app Lugg which they mentioned is an every day routine for them. It would have taken me hours and caused stress to deal with it. I would have probably cancel the sale. But thanks to these two professional, kind, empathetic human beings it was taking care of in 30 minutes. They both apologized for making me wait but I was just grateful that they were willing to help me use Lugg. I can tell that Elissa and Sal do these for other customers not just for me. My mom had her table built and delivered by 7:00 pm , as promised. I couldn't believe it was delivered the same day!! 100 + Salvador and Elissa are the kind of people who do their job well and make a difference in life. I can tell tell that the behavior of all 3 individuals are not isolated incidents. Yes, it wasn't a life or dead situation thank God. But life is filled of little things that can make a person feel better. We are all in this together people!! We all should be kind to others and do our job. If someone does not have people's skills, shouldn't be a manager!! It sets a bad precedent to the whole team. No one is more or better than others. We are all equals and therefore managers should answer questions and help customers. They are not exempt from being polite and having manners. It's all about delivery! Keep up that great attitude of love, respect and compassion for others Elissa and Sal! The world should have more people like you two. read more
