I frequently shop at this At Home location, but after what I witnessed on Friday, June 12th (around…read more4:30 pm), I don't think I'll be back. I was near the checkout shopping when I overheard a male customer politely ask a cashier if certain items were on sale. Instead of a normal, polite response, the cashier, a middle-aged woman with black hair, snapped at him, aggressively stating they were clearly marked as not on sale. The customer was completely taken aback (so was I frankly) but he stayed entirely calm, simply mentioning that the aisle signage was a bit confusing. The cashier doubled down, yelling louder and more aggressively that it "wasn't her problem if he couldn't read the sign." It was so hostile I almost walked out right then. It got worse. Another man (unclear if it was a customer or someone else) came in from the parking lot, got directly in the male customer's face, and became incredibly aggressive, to the point where I genuinely thought the man from the parking lot was going to get physical with the customer. Instead of de-escalating, the cashier started yelling over them again. Through all of this, the customer remained completely composed, paid for his items, and prepared to leave. As he walked out, the cashier threw a loud, incredibly sarcastic "have a good day and come again" after him. The way this employee treated a calm customer asking a simple question was completely unacceptable. It made me so uncomfortable that I set my items down and walked out without buying anything. Everyone has bad days, but this went way beyond that it was disrespectful and disappointing. I will be hard pressed to return to the store if this is the way they treat their customers.

When we picked up the chair I was struck by how different it felt. In March I returned to the store to sit in the model, I was again struck by how supportive it was to my back and tried to talk to the manager about how not only did the chair feel different but the fabric was puckering. He told me I needed to call customer care. It was almost a month before a technician came out. He told me the factory sometimes substitutes cushions of lesser quality. He would order me a new bottom cushion but there was nothing to be done about the soft back. A month later I wax contacted that the tech forgot to cut a swatch of fabric and it would be a few weeks before I could be scheduled. I called back and said I had a swatch of the fabric from the store would that work. I wax assured it would. So I drove the swatch to the warehouse. This morning, 6 weeks after I delivered the swatch, I get a call that a tech needs to come and cut a swatch. I explained what I had done, was assured it was fine. No, I am told this will not work and in a week a tech will come. I feel I have been duped by the store by not getting the quality of the floor model and a manager who does not care if he has a satisfied customer. This was not a cheap chair. I do not think anyone should purchase from this store.

After he left I looked at getting curtains and the woman that helped me was pushy and didn't listen to what I wanted. 2 years ago I popped in because I was looking for a new bedroom set for my condo. I walked the whole Floor before being greeted by a woman. She treated me like I was wasting her time and didn't have enough money to spend in the store. I saw a set I liked but knew I didn't want to deal With her so I left. Fast forward to last week... my daughter was given a $1000 gift card for Montgomery's when they closed on their first home. One day, while out and about doing other things and not really dressed up, they stopped in to look to see what Montgomery's has to offer now. The woman that greeted her and her fiancé was nothing short of rude and condescending. They left and gave me a call. I told them to go to Madison or Watertown. They went to Madison and had a much better experience. Word to Management... treat every customer with respect. Not everyone is able to afford your Sioux Falls store but they are going to be talking to friends, family and at work about how they were treated.

A Hit or Miss Place - in More Ways than One…read more The goods: Mostly the kind of furniture the 55+ community likes - stuffed chairs and sofas with floral upholstery, heavy wood furniture like sideboards, dressers and headboards, and fancy table lamps. Don't expect the good stuff like Henkel-Harris, Bassett, Baker or Henredon - you won't find much better than middle-end like Ethan Allen. But if you're looking for used furniture, this is one of the few options, as the other resale/thrift shops in the city have little or no furniture, except for Consignors Design up the street. Prices aren't low for used furniture, so carefully watching the constant furniture sales around town might offer something new for just a little more. Back room does have a selection of recliners that someone looking to furnish a den or first apartment might like. Here and there you might find a nice piece of accent furniture, but the goods are packed pretty close, so you have to look carefully around. Wall art is mostly just printed landscape posters in frames - the kind of stuff that usually hangs on the wall over a sofa - nothing original or collectible. Decorative items are the better thrift shop variety. Stock doesn't change much from month to month. The staff: I've been in five times now, and it's remarkable how some of the people know the basics of Retail 101 that you learn if you worked in a mall store in high school, and some don't. Once when I was there, the staff was a teenager/young woman who looked up from the desk, said "let me know if need anything," and returned to her phone. Another time it was a slender older woman with blonde highlights who came around the counter, said hello, and asked if there was anything special I was looking for. She offered the store's business card as I left, and asked me to come again. She definitely understood Retail 101 - each new customer is a potential return customer, and also someone who might refer other customers. The other staff (owner?) was a short older woman with a blonde ponytail, who was looking at her phone when I came in, looked up, and went back to the phone. Another time she did talk to me, but then the phone rang, and she forgot Retail 101 - the person in front of you is more important than the person on the phone (barring a medical emergency, which it definitely wasn't). Bringing in something for consignment can be hit or miss, too, and again, even if something is turned down, a friendly "Well, it's not what I'm looking for right now, but thank you for coming by, and keep me in mind if you have anything else" would generate more future inventory than a curt rejection. In a place like this the customers could also be suppliers and the suppliers may later be customers; today's item might not be marketable, but the next thing the consigner would bring in might sell for a good price (and the consignor might walk out with a purchase) - something Ponytail and Teenager didn't seem to grasp. Each time I was in there - weekday or weekend - I was the only person there, so the business wasn't exactly booming. It's not worth a special trip, but if you're in the hardware store or grocery store in the neighborhood, it might be worth walking over if there's something in particular for which you're looking. You could get lucky and find Blonde Highlights on duty, too.
