I've been to World War II Memorial Park before, a few years ago, when I brought my dogs here for a walk. I really liked the paved walking trail because it's easy to navigate, so this was my second visit--and this time I brought my dog and my one-year-old daughter. One of the things I really love about this park is how quiet and peaceful it is. Even being here on a weekend, there isn't a crazy amount of people, which makes it a really nice place to enjoy some time outdoors with a young child. The small zoo area is definitely minimal, but honestly, the fact that the entire park is free makes that a huge plus. It's a great little outing for kids without having to spend any money, and my daughter really enjoyed seeing the animals. There is a small container where you can purchase food for the animals using quarters, which I thought was a cute addition. However, there are also several signs throughout the park that say not to feed the animals, so I found that a little confusing. I'm assuming the food from the designated dispenser is okay, but clearer signage explaining when and how visitors can feed the animals would definitely help. The animals appear to be well cared for, and the trails and park itself were clean and free of trash. It also seems like the staff are doing a great job maintaining the property and caring for the animals. Overall, I would definitely recommend World War II Memorial Park for a cute, simple outing with young kids. If you're looking for something free to do on the weekend where the kids can get outside, walk around, and see some animals, this is definitely worth checking out. read more

Such an amazing zoo to visit. It's been a over a decade since I've last been to this park and coming back brought me nostalgia. This is a huge park for running, riding bikes, picnicking, petting animals, etc. There's two giant playgrounds for kids. This is a free park open to the public. Went in the afternoon so it was packed. Suggest getting there in the morning to secure a close parking spot. Then again, the walk there is beautiful. There's also hiking paths located in the area. Oh my goodness - how did I just discover this today?!!! Free zoo, multiple playgrounds, disc golf, hikes, porta potties, beautiful views, and parking!!! Today was a wonderful adventure for my family with our toddler daughter. There are even 2 other playgrounds that I didn't get pictures of. One is called the beach and is playground toys with sand instead of grass. The other is for school aged kids but had toddler swings too so my daughter loved that. There is feed you can buy to give the animals at the zoo but the staff take in the despensers when the animals have had enough each day. COVID-19 precautions masks and one way paths but it's large enough grounds to social distance too. If you're just doing zoo and playgrounds stroller is fine but hiking leave it in the car. Maybe consider a group of volunteers to clean trash throughout the whole park. The disc golf course in specific. This was left on a table next to the practice basket. Clean up after yourself, it's a free park... treat it like it's your backyard. I understand the trash can limitation due to COVID, but can something be worked out? So much trash. read more

I am in love with this place! Been here twice and can't wait to go back. Driving in there are a few spots to park on your right but don't worry because if that's full just keep going. There's plenty of parking ahead. This park is a pretty decent in size and if you have kids they will love it here. Huge playground that made me wish I was a kid again. Also the coolest slide that all the kids seemed to love. Its in this beautiful garden with tons of flowers and plants and benches. Julia's Garden. There's a very touching plaque dedication there to her. Ok, now to the animals. My favorite part. There are turkeys (both don't seem very friendly so be careful of your fingers) and pigs, goats, deer, sheep, llamas and ostriches. Last trip there was a peacock but I didn't see him this time around. You can feed them corn that apparently they hand out now (I think I recall quarter machines last time I was there but couldn't find any this trip which was disappointing) but luckily kids drop stuff, haha, so I just scooped the corn off the ground and had plenty to feed the deer (my favorite) with. I saw at least 10 picnic areas with grills and also saw a sign for disc golf. Their open till 8 in the summer and close at 4 in the winter. Also, there's a steep hill when leaving and then a pretty abrupt turn so be carful and don't fly down that hill on the way out. Best part? FREE FREE FREE!! Go visit the animals!! read more

It's overall a great place. I've been here a ton of times. But as of October 2020 the animals look unhealthy and seem sad. Especially the donkeys. Their eyes are gloomy and depressed. The deer don't appear to be feed either, I noticed this when I saw them attack each other for the food. read more

This is our favorite park and free zoo. Bring a quarter to feed the animals or scavenge corn off the path: My daughter loves it here. There are over 4 separate playground areas, walking trails, disc golf, sports fields, paved areas for strollers and more. Explore the hiking trails and find the balancing rock if you're feeling ambitious. Look for the old ski trail, check out the sky line, look up for the fire tower! In non covid times, you can rent picnic areas for parties. You can enjoy them for a quick meal without rental. My dad used to get us happy meals and take us here as kids- now it's much bigger and nicer but we still enjoy takeout and the park! read more

Love this place! First of all, being a free zoo it doesn't get much better. They have deer which is unique to other zoos in the area, as well. They have 2 play areas too! One designed more for baby/toddler and one for older kids which is nice because I always worry about my daughter falling off equipment on playgrounds not meant for her age group. I went earlier in the day and it wasn't too busy either. We had time to walk around quite a bit and have a little snack on the tables available. I would highly recommend this to kill a couple hours with a toddler or kid!! read more

One of the best places around if you ask me. It's free and has so much to do for kids and adults. Love how well maintained it is and staff is very friendly. Petting the animals and feeding them is fun the food for cost like 25 cents but who cares. Love the huge slide they have for the kids / adults. Not to mention the playground with so many activities for the children as well as a sand pit. We also love to walk around with our puppy who is a American bully. Plenty of on and off road paths to go on. They have a big baseball field as well. It's a great place to spend the day with the family or just to walk your dog. read more

When I heard that there was a "World War I Memorial" in North Attleboro, I thought that a sunny Sunday morning walk would be just the ticket! We drove over, we entered the gate, we drove....drove....drove....... The only hint of a dedication for the War was a small plaque at the entrance which was half-hidden by ivy. The land dedicated to this space is beautiful (almost enough to forget that Route 1 is so close-by); a former "bunny slope" for skiing beginners, the hill now has areas carved out for picnicking, playground jungle gyms, a sandy "beach" area, a beautiful garden, and even a small petting zoo. I found the petting zoo to be relatively depressing. While it was interesting to visit the animals (goats, horses, mules, sheep, pigs, alpaca, and even white tailed deer!), seeing that most could use a bath, some food, and some TLC was pretty disheartening. There weren't any staff to be seen (...who is charged with the animals' well-being? ...and how often do these "care takers" swing by?), but plenty of children throwing carrots at then emu (which don't eat carrots) and the mule (which has a sign reading "do not feed - on strict diet"). The garden was tranquil and had a wonderful array of flora and fauna. The playground equipment was clearly the favorite by the swells of giggling, squealing children. Walking around the giant loops which connects all of these areas was pleasant, and there are several small, overgrown inlets with grilling pits great for cookout picnics. This is certainly a great place for families to bring their children and leave them expel all that pint-sized energy...but for those hoping for a peaceful nature walk, you're better off hiking elsewhere. read more

With the coming of the nice weather comes my annual, "Dammit, I'm going to get out and get more exercise!" As luck would have it, I was led to the WWI Memorial Park and Zoo at just the right time to make it come true! This place is definitely a "hidden gem". I've been driving by here for years without knowing the great treat that lay within its gates. Walking trails, playgrounds, a nature area, picnic tables and a small zoo that almost makes me wish I had kids to bring (almost!). Several different types of birds (including emus), sheep, goats and ponies. Well maintained and cared for too. Bring carrots and apples from home to feed the animals, as there isn't any feed available to buy. On our last walk we came across an abandoned ski slope and J-bar lift that will be excellent for sledding next winter. Oh, did I mention that it's free? read more

The WWI Memorial Park Zoo is an incredible place that many people are not aware exists...which is unfortunate because it is fun and free! It consists of a large petting zoo, with emus, goats, deer, sheep, horses, llamas, pigs, donkeys, and a variety of birds. You can bring apples and carrots to feed all of the animals. I brought my little cousins and the deer ate right out of our hands through the fence, which they loved! They also have little corn dispensers where you can get handfuls for a quarter, but they lock these up around 3. A small "cafe" is also open for a few hours during the earlier part of the day. Don't forget the massive playground-there is a huge garden with the longest slide I've ever seen, as well as beautiful landscaping, waterfalls, and trails through the woods. There is also a "beach" area, next to the playground (basically a giant sandbox made to look like a beach). Did I mention that it's free?? Also, there is a "Zoo Kidz" camp over the summer where kids can spend a week helping take care of the animals and learning more about them. My favorite place to hang out in the North Attleboro area, period. And it's precisely because there's not much to do there except enjoy a little scenery. It's one of the few (perhaps the only) park in the area with sort of a view. It's the best place around here for a puke-your-brains-out run. If the drill sergeant from Full Metal Jacket knew about the ski hill, he'd probably make his sorry, stinkin' recruits do 4-5 trips up and down - timed. Which reminds me: that's what we'd do for cross-country practice when I was a teenager (I grew up in Attleboro). For some reason, those are fond memories for me. Anyway, WWI Park is a hill-workout Valhalla. If that's the kind of thing you're into. Otherwise, it's a great place for a picnic, to take a walk, or to have stare-downs with the animals in the petting zoo - if you go during off-hours. Just don't go on a "beach day" during the summer. Not tranquil. Early spring or fall is the best. If nobody was watching, I'd probably be all over the playground. It's new-ish, and looks very nice. When we have kids, we'll definitely take them to it. read more

Update.. The park has been taken care of great. Tree's and brush have been cut and trimmed, and picnic tables replaced or fixed. It looks to be complete by late spring. The park staff has done a great job. read more

This park is such a gem. There is lots to do and see even off season. My toddler loves the sandbox area, which is all decked out with beach decor. The animals were also a hit, especially the peacock and the pigs. There are lots of picnic areas and walking trails and a beautiful lookout area. And of course the playgrounds! Such a beautiful, well manicured and maintained park for kids. Love the animals and the ability to picnic with family and friends. This location is also close to major roads so travelers from a distance will find it accessible. The butterfly garden area is so peaceful and full of different types of flowers. I'm told at one time this place even had a ski lift area. That would be great money for the town even if they changed the layout and made it a tubing place during the winter. I also love the fact every area is easily accessed on foot or even by car for people who cannot walk the distance but want to enjoy the park. Great for young and old. read more

I have been going to this small park/zoo for 30yrs. iIt would be nice to have more of a staff presence but all in all it's a great place to bring small children to see the animals and walk the trails. They installed a nice playground. It's free and a great place to have a picnic or even use the provided grills to have a cookout. Bring your charcoal and a bag for trash. read more

I can't believe this park is free! Playgrounds, picnic areas, you can have parties there (That isn't free.) and to top it off there is a zoo with animals you can feed! The thick woods surround the play ground so the noise level is muffled by the wind blowing through the trees, and the occasional call of a rooster. There is one dingy area with decaying toys, but walk up and around to the one on the hill and the kids will wear themselves out. There are several places to sit by small ponds and relax. I love this place! If you can take the cold weather, there are harly any people there when the temperature drops. Have I mentioned it's free? read more

I love this place! It's definitely a hidden gem in Attleboro... I was really surprised and delighted with the number of animals they had, and the park is a great little area to walk around and spend the day! The only thing is that it's a little dingy feeling... Sorry, I totally disagree with the lady from Quincy. This park / zoo is run by our town and they are doing an excellent job not only caring for the animals but also maintaining the 3 levels of playground equipment. Kids love feeding the animals apples & carrots then walking to the Butterfly Garden play area with the super big slide. Heading up the path to the beach themed sand area complete with a sunken boat, toys & a life guard chair. Then up one more path to a big playground area!! There is also a smaller playground for babies & toddlers across from the zoo area. This is a free park with a lot to offer the kids and adults. In addition to all the fun, they have offered camps to older kids teaching them how to care for the animals and I've seen kids mucking out the animal pens. It's a great lesson in responsibility for our youth!! read more

This place is amazing, and I take my sons there at least once a week! The zoo is nice for the kids to ask questions and feed them the carrots or apples we usaully bring. They enjoy being able to do that and I love them learning to care and be kind to animals! Also there are like 3 or 4 different actual parks for the kids to enjoy which keeps them more entertained longer! One is a giant sand box, they have a lovely little garden, and a HUGE tunnel slide. they also do lil things through out the year that is free and great for the kids! today we went and were supprised with a great "touch a truck" day. They had a ton of vehicle/ construction trucks for the kids to climb and play and ask questions about. Including fire trucks, police cars, john deere mowers, street sweepers,giant dump trucks! My sons were in love, and climbed up and drove every single one of them! They even gave out free hotdogs and waters! it was just a great suprise. And the whole day cost us nothing! On top of that for adults its a great place to just walk and take in your surroundings! I enjoy it and think there should be more places like this around for kids to enjoy! I highly recommend it for any parent looking for something to do!! read more
