Amazing Resort & hopefully, we get the same room next time as well! What worked out well for us - Clean Room with huge kitchen, restroom. Our kid had lots of fun walking around the unit! - No bugs, no disturbance from any other unit. - lots of parking! - dish washer (they give the dishwashing pods for free!) - washer & dryer within your unit - clean pool and they have toddler pool with beach sand which was fun! - Groceries, food, cafe are on the right across the road! - Friendly staff at the reception! - Beach towels (but they are open only from 9-6pm!) Things to look out for - For the first time, the board for Waipouli beach restort is only on the main road and there are no signs inside the property. you will see lots of signage for Spa and a small glass door on the left for Waipouli Beach Resort & Spa by Outrigger - phone calls from the room do not work, I left voicemail and still got no calls. the easiest way is to call the main number and then reach the reception. - Beach towels are available only from 9am to 6pm so make sure you pick them up if you wish to enter the pool later in the evening!

Great for families and groups. Condos where well kept and well stocked. Pool was immaculate and had 3 or 4 hot tubs of which at least 1 was adults only. I believe there were two water slides and the pool flowed similar to a lazy river. It truly beats some mega resorts I have been to Great location. Across the street from safeway as well as restaurants. Plenty of parking on-site. Staff was friendly and check in was a breeze. Now a few things let me down. First, the access keys. The condo doors are coded and same with the pool area. I would prefer key cards or a water proof wrist band key card. Having to remember multiple codes on vacation shouldnt be a priority. The big one, the beach. It 100% reef. That might sound awesome, until you understand you enter the ocean walking on the reef, as in, there's no sand for you to be able to go down and just hang out waist or neck deep. Most people are used to like 20 - 50 yards of ocean with a sandy bottom before they end up over a reef. That's not the case here and that's not good for guests or the reef itself. I really like the grounds so I might be back but the beach is a killer for me.

3.5 is the score. We have stayed here numerous times and have loved it - but something has changed. The location is great, the pool area is great but this time I noticed the trash cans were always overflowing, the BBQs completely broken down the door handle in our bathroom fell off, the phone didn't work, and the view out our place was destroyed by a window that needs replacing. And YES, I reported all of the issues. The BBQs were really a mess. Five or six families every night standing there waiting for a turn on the one working bbq that you could only get two of the three burners going. Just seemed like the whole place lacked the detail it once had. Still beautiful and nice pool but when you're paying big $$ to stay somewhere everything should be top notch. Bummer, not sure if we will stay again. But we do love the location on the east side of island.

I loved our stay at Waipouli Beach Resort. Never felt overly crowded. I didn't have to get up at dawn to secure a lounge chair by the pool. The gardens were well cared for. Parking wasn't an issue. Our ground level unit was convenient to walk to the restaurant, pool and beach. Beach was beautiful. Not a good spot for swimming in the ocean. Oasis by the Beach served tasty food and cold drinks. A great value compared to some of the other options we were considering.

Recently we decided to check into this resort for a staycation and my birthday. Went in, in person to inquire and luckily they had a condo available on late notice. Mind you, this resort is actually condos, privately owned units, not your basic hotel. I agreed on a two bedroom, three bathroom unit. Paid up front with a credit card. Was shocked on the cost of fees though. Basically, resort fees, cleaning fees and DAMAGE PROTECTION fees. Alittle over 600 bucks, and for two nights! That blew me away. OK, so I agreed to it. So two nights and the fees were over 14 hundred bucks. We checked in. Easy. Amazing how easy it was with these friendly professional and welcoming front desk ladies. Wow. We found our unit and entered. I did my usual routine room inspections and photo taking. The master bedroom and bath passed with flying colors. No hairs, debris, bugs etc. I did the visual and sniff tests on King bed, pass! On the other bed in the second bedroom, I found a single two inch strand of black hair. Under the covers and pillows passed. Also passed was the other two bathrooms. In the kitchen, some of the knives in the block was dirty, un washed. We didn't use them. Yuck. One of the burners on the stove didn't work. It's OK, the other four worked. Kitchen was well stocked and clean, even inside the fridge and freezer. They included some coffee stuff we could use, and dish soap. Two of the tvs didn't work properly. It kept going blank after every ten minutes. I was watching my favorite show (Golden Bachelorette) and it kept going off. I couldn't even watch the whole rose ceremony!! I was stressed. Wifi worked great. We made sure to use all three toilets, both showers, both beds, etc. I used the tub for my bubble bath. We had a ocean/pool view so it was great. We had breakfast and lunch on the balcony table. Bring your own groceries. Use the kitchen. Didn't have to use the washer and dryer so I don't know the condition of those. Both beds were very comfortable. It was like our bed at home. We had a very enjoyable time. We did use their pool and did dinner at Oasis on the Beach restaurant. Someday I want to come back!

This isn't really a hotel, it's more of a timeshare/owners renting out to people. Kind of like an Airbnb in a way. There is a front desk but very limited hour, after you have to call security to check you in. The room is just like a hotel. We got the studio. It came with a mini fridge and a microwave. The room itself is very comfortable. The bed wasn't bad. We love the ceiling fan and AC. Worked very well together. The bathroom had very good shower pressure. Toilet flushed a little slow, but other than that it was fine. The pool is cool. There's a lazy River, slide and beach entry area with an adults only jacuzzi. They are a little strict here though as they don't let you have any pool floaties. We didn't know and got in trouble. There's an on-site restaurant, it's very good but pricey! Good to try though. Lots of residents living here. Parking is plentiful and they didn't charge us. The location is stellar. It's across from a strip mall with plenty of options.

My review is for unit G104. I had booked with Kauai calls. Candace and the team was easy to communicate with. When I had issues with the stove, Candace was quick to get back to me. The unit was beachfront. It had patio dining table and a bistro set in front of the other bedroom which made it wonderful to sit and drink coffee as I watched the sunrise. The unit had everything I needed to cook some meals. There were also boogie boards, beach chairs, cooler, sand toys and umbrella. It was a big plus to have those available instead of renting or buying them. The resort was beautiful. The pool was great. We bqqed one day and the grill was impeccably clean. There is ac and fan in the unit which was very relieving when coming back from the day out.

Good location for a resort, centrally located, across the street from Safeway and other restaurants. Easy to get to all sides of the island from here. If you want to save some money on food bring a few spices from home. Our particular room had the bare minimum but I heard a other rooms provided more amenities. Ours was located by the pool room h202. There are 2 grills for use poolside so you can bbq some meats and eat poolside or take back to your room. They provide pool towels that you can change out every day but if you loose it it's a $25 charge.

This is a great place to stay, but even better if you have an ocean view. The grounds were beautiful, flowers, a tadpole pool, large pool, beach access. Pool towel service was easy to use and long hours, plenty of time to pick up or return- and you could exchange daily if you wanted, we just washed ours nightly as we had washer/dryer. It was really nice to have a washer and dryer in the unit as we didn't have to pack a lot of clothes this trip. There is no hotel shop but right across the street there is 24/7 Safeway, an ABC store, shave ice, pho, subway, Panda Express, Starbucks and several other stores. Amazing sunrise views from the beach. Water was amazingly warm (compared to CA water). Pool was rather cold and we didn't really swim in it, it was neat though- waterfalls, a little grotto under one fall, 2 water slides, sand bottom hot tub and a sand bottom shallow pool. Things that could make the stay better would be, a nightlight or soft light in the bathrooms, a mat upon entering the rooms that helps with the sand on tile- slippery, and the pool a bit warmer to enjoy. Great place to stay and glad to spend a week there.

Room was up to date and spacious, my family loved seeing the beautiful garden outside the window. Kitchen and separate rooms was a necessity while traveling with kids! The pool was amazing - especially for families, it is so big that it never felt crowded. The pool temp was slightly too cool for me, but my kids weren't bothered at all and it could be that we swam in the later afternoon when it was partly cloudy (October). I liked that there was a family hot tub, therefore appropriate temp for little ones to warm up. Great location, loved being next to Safeway/restaurants. Minor complaints: Pillows are really uncomfortable - pack your own! Bed is OK. Also, they have washing machines yet don't supply soap.... and they make you wash your own towels. No daily room service.

Ocean view, loosely, but pool view was a added benefit.

Just got back from Kauai and spent a week at the Waipouli Resort. We booked directly from Outrigger. What a great experience! This is our first time on Kauai but we have stayed at many Outriggers from Oahu and Maui in the past. We love the Honua Kai on Maui and have stayed there 4 times. First, let me say Lani from the front desk is great! She is super friendly and flexible. She helped me plan a little birthday welcome for my daughter who has a birthday while we were traveling. She pointed out all the local spots and tips on the island and how to best get around! Hotel: The Hotel is great for families. Love having a full kitchen! Pots, pans, utensils, basically anything in a kitchen are available. However, you need your own cooking oil and seasoning. Having a washer and dryer is great, clean clothes from the beach and fresh clothes for the flight home helps. Need your own detergent but they sell the pods at the front desk for .50 and Safeway is across the street. Pool is great but a little cold. Grounds are well kept. The beach is very choppy on this side of the islands. I would not recommend beach play for little ones without supervision. They have tide pools which are really cool. For beach play near the hotel, I recommend Lydgate Pools. Our room was great and very clean. It looked like it had been updated with paint and furnishment. We had an ocean view but there was some obstruction with the trees but seeing the pool and the ocean was a nice touch. We were on the D tower, 3rd floor. The carpet was clean, bed was comfortable. The sofa bedding was not, but it is a pullout. The overall hotel probably could use a facelift or modernization as you can see wear and tear in the lobby and hallways. The hotel is very quiet. Very nice touch. Never had to fight for a lounge chair even with all the families visiting, never felt crowded like you might feel on Maui. Pros: Good clean room. Everything you need from a condo is available. Location - right across the street from a Safeway, ABC Store, Starbucks (if needed, we always go for local coffee joints in Hawaii), Wailua Shave Ice, Panda, an arcade lol. You can walk there. There is a Kenji burger right next door, a brewery one block over. Restaurant onsite, but never went tried. Like anything else on the island, dinner is expensive. I heard great reviews but for the prices, I went to other options in Poipu - Red Salt, Beach House, Hukilau, etc. Staff - Security, Front desk, building maintenance were great and friendly. Our dishwasher was literally running the entire day we were gone because of some error and they came and fixed it immediately when we told them. The Towel Service team could use a friendlier attitude for sure. Cons: Limited overall service. Front desk is open from 9am to 7. No housekeeping at all. The entire time we stayed there we cleaned our own sheets and towels. You can ask for maintenance to get a vacuum or a broom if needed. They are super friendly. As mentioned earlier, the general appearance of the hotel's common areas needs some updating, broken fixtures in the elevator, scratches and dents in hallways, worn out lobby furniture, etc. You would expect more from a $500 plus night 4star rating. Aside from the minor cons, I would definitely stay here again with my family. For a whole week, we definitely like the extra space. We stayed at the Andaz and the Fairmont last year as a family and a whole week was a lot to be sharing in a standard room. Also, we loved walking across the street after returning home from dinner to Wailua Shave Ice. Location and being in the middle between north and south shore is great.

First time to Kauai and we are staying at the Waipouli Beach Resorts courtesy of my MIL due diligence in searching for a great spot. The condo itself is beyond spacious for 4 people although set up for many more with a pull out sofa bed. There are two huge king beds that we knocked out on nightly. There are two huge bathrooms and a 3rd bath as well. This place came with all the essentials not only for living but complete with beach chairs, cooler, and beach umbrella. Need to wash clothes? The washing machine/dryer combo worked really well! The grounds have a great pool with two water slides, 3 spas, a lazy riverish and gym. Late night spa visits were great to south the bones. Little different with sand bottoms. The Oasis Restaurant is onsite and has great views. Happy hour is happy along with good food on the dinner menu. Kapaa is a great location and has a lot of stores and restaurants. The 8 mile scenic bike path is just around the corner from this resort... I would not only recommend this resort but I would stay here again.

It has all of the requisite HGI necessities such as clean, standardized rooms, available breakfast made to order, and a price point that does not break the bank compared to big resorts on Kaua'i. I had a comfortable stay here with easy parking, a comfortable room, and good wi-fi. It doesn't hurt that you can see the ocean from some rooms and that the property grounds have some unexpected nice touches such as a koi pond water feature, a spacious airy lobby open to the outside, and easy self parking for a fee. In this genre of Hilton portfolio hotel, it hits a bit above its expected weight. What keeps it in the 4-star range (instead of 5) is its location. It is relatively near Lihue and the airport (about a 12-15 min drive) but far from any of the major resort spots that Kaua'i is really known for (like Poipu or Princeville). Its location is just a couple of minutes drive outside of Kapa'a and if you are not looking for a high end vacation resort experience, this will suffice as a place to lay your head with confidence while helping you respect a moderate budget. It is not cheap by most HGI standards but it is reasonable by local Kaua'i lodging standards. A rental car is a must if you choose to stay here because there really is nothing around you within easy or safe walking distance. That is a problem if you are here to be a tourist and see some sights and places that The Garden Isle is known for. It is this location that keeps the pricing here down but the inconvenience factor high. I liked this property for what it was and I would stay here again if my reason for coming to Kaua'i was for anything other than a higher end resort experience. I'm sure there are even cheaper places to stay on this island but then again, I don't think that the Salvation Army has a loyalty program or a koi pond.

After a failed attempt at staying at a different property on Poipu that turned out to be ant…read moreinfested (ants were literally crawling all over the bed, walls, floors and shower), my wife found Aston Islander available for a VERY last min booking on the same day at a reasonable rate. Check-in took awhile, but the front desk people were super friendly and provided us a complimentary bottle of wine when they heard that we were staying for our honeymoon. Daily housekeeping is apparently not offered, but we did ask that fresh towels be provided daily. This request was hit or miss, and we often found ourselves needing to go to the front desk to ask for a change in towels the next day. The room itself is surprisingly spacious and clean, although older and dated. It was quite amazing to wake up to the sight of the beautiful Pacific Ocean right outside our patio window every morning. Although the waters on this side of the island were not protected and too rough for us to think about jumping into the ocean safely. We were told that seals and sea turtles would occasionally make their way onto the beach, however this was apparently more of a rare sighting and never materialized during our stay. We actually just wound up going to Poipu most evenings to see the sea turtles come in to rest on the beach. There is a DVD machine near the front desk where you can rent movies for free. And a Playstation in the room to watch the DVD's with. However, the dual shock controller definitely had taken a lot of abuse and would just rumble randomly whenever the power was turned on. And most of the buttons either did not work or would only work sporadically. There are no elevators here, despite the various buildings being at least 3 stories tall. We wound up having a 2nd floor room and found ourselves hauling all of our heavy luggage up multiple flights of stairs. If you are elderly or disabled, you should definitely request a 1st floor room. Additionally, they do not have any real lighting on the outdoor common areas that connect the rooms with the front foyer. Instead, there are just the small, garden solar lights stuck into the ground along the paved path. This is honestly quite a safety issue as the area is literally pitch black at night as you're either leaving the property or coming back. With only the small lights on the floor to guide your way while you hope you don't trip over any cracks or unseen objects. The hotel has a large, private parking lot that is shared with the nearby businesses on the same property lot. However despite the large amount of parking spots, we constantly found ourselves needing to circle the lot looking for a free spot whenever we returned back later at night. We suspect that some locals may be using their parking lot for temporary/long-term parking, as we did see a few vehicles that had multiple tickets on the windshield during our stay with warnings of towing due to abandonment. Despite the tickets/warnings, we did not see any of these vehicles actually towed during our entire stay here. Despite the issues outlined above, we did overall enjoy our stay here. And would recommend this property if you're looking for a slightly more affordable option than many of the high-end resorts that dot this island.

Overall, I'd give my experience a solid three stars. First off, the staff was wonderful. Peggy at the front desk was the sweetest and made us feel right at home. The hotel grounds were stunning, with a beautiful pool area and lush surroundings. And those chickens? They were everywhere! A fun surprise for a first-timer like me. We had a garden-facing room on the third floor that still offered a decent ocean view. The room was a bit dated, but I loved having a little kitchenette with a fridge, microwave, and sink. Plus, the DVD rental in the lobby was a nice touch since every room has a DVD player. There were a few surprises, like no elevator, so lugging our bags up three flights was a workout. Our room wasn't ready when we arrived, but we got two free drink tickets for the Tiki Bar, which made the wait more enjoyable. However, the Wi-Fi in our room was spotty, and there wasn't much help available. Luckily, I managed to hop onto the neighbor's Wi-Fi to stream Netflix, though the local TV never worked, which was a bit of a bummer. The early morning rooster calls were definitely new for me, but I came to appreciate them as part of the island charm. Parking was tricky if we got back late, but on the bright side, the location was fantastic. We could walk to the Coconut Marketplace, and the vouchers and coupons we received were a nice perk. Overall, despite some hiccups, the beautiful island setting and friendly service made my stay memorable.

Beach had heavy waves so not swimable when we went in December. BUT! Literally on the bike path that runs along the east coast! Few homeless further up on path but they were not a problem and tidier than those in other states. Quiet resort with plenty of free parking. Heated pool and looks like it was just refinished. Hot tub didn't use but was working and was hot enough. Staffed pool area with board games to lend, yoga mats, beach/pool towels. Snack and soda vending machines. Walkable to all conveniences. Friendly staff. Barhroom towels are fluffy and clean (very white). 2 coffee sachets were provided along with some sugar and Creamer packs. Plenty of paper towels and toilet paper and soaps and shampoos. Icemaker worked like a dream. Came with cooking ware and plates and plastic water pitcher in fridge - yippee. Old school coffee pot and blender. Functioning oven and stove. We used one of the gas grills outside that has a light so you can see what you're cooking. Didn't get a message 1 week prior to checkin so was pleasantly surprised to find all comforts of home. Master bedroom was big with 2 closets. We stayed in the other bedroom with king bed and closet and bathroom just outside the bedroom door. Great set up for 2 couples or family. Wifi and TV worked perfectly. Place was clean when we arrived. It's an updated unit with island feel. It's not the Ritz but for the price and amenities we would stay again.

This place was recommended to us from a work colleague. Months ago my wife asked for us not to be placed in a room on the main street. Well, that just where we were placed. And it seemed like we were told to just accept it and like it. During a week's stay, we got to hear every fire truck, ambulance, etc. at any hour. Think you can enjoy a week of that for your vacation? I think I got better sleep on the plane home. We have stayed in Princeville, like 6-7 times in the past, and I think we'll go back to Princeville in the future. Honestly, I don't think I'd waste my time going back to that resort.

We loved our 2bedroom villa, while we had plenty of space the property itself is small enough that walking anywhere doesn't feel like a chore. Here is where we fall off and don't quite hit the 5 stars. Our villa was super clean. Toilets weren't fully cleaned upon arrival and they definitely didn't do a better job during our stay. The couch and blankets had a few mystery stains that grossed me out. Cocktails and the restaurant are insanely expensive. We are talking 28 dollars for a cocktail. Additionally the staff member Nancy (pool attendant) was rude to me. I wasn't able to locate a dry chair in the sun at 4pm. so I asked an employee for permission to use a chair near the cabana. Permission was granted but she wasn't happy about it. So asked me to move, while I didn't have issue with moving I did find it rather unprofessional of her to yell at me for not reading the sign and while she offered to help me when I asked to a dry chair on the sun she walked away ranting about my lack of awareness. To make matters worse the same employee had a separate issue with my husband in reguarda to pool towels. When I tried to address it with the front they weren't very helpful. All in all we did have a great week there and hope to go back.

It's an open restaurant with no doors and being steps from the beach it should've been breezy, especially New Year's Day. They had fans over head but were not using them. I asked if they could turn them on and the lady said she would and never did. That was horrible. Trapped heat and me do not agree. The other thing is the bathroom. It's in the hotel and when asking where it was, I was told "that way" with a point. I went that way and entered the first doors but those were the hotel rooms. I left and went in the next doors and there they were. There was no sign. The "that way" direction was not helpful besides knowing which way not to walk. I've been to a few luaus and they usually split up the different islands in dance and it's apparent. Here, I was lost. It felt rushed and the story didn't -- well ?what story? Really. It was still a wonderful night. We celebrated my son getting engaged that day. Nothing could've killed our night. There is another one on Kauai that is more authentic. I forget which one since it was in 2012 when we went but it was amazing. One thing that was very disappointing was being steps away from the beach yet no viewing of the pig being unearthed. That's a huge part of the luau experience and that was the biggest disappointment. My sister, nephew and (now) daughter-in-law had never been and we were excited for them to see it.

1 Star -- WARNING: This property management company will take your money and put your family at…read morerisk. We booked a week at Mele Kai (March 11-18) for two families, including kids, one of whom was celebrating a birthday on the island. Nearly $8,000. On March 10, with a massive Kona storm bearing down on Kauai, we reached out to Garden Island Properties to discuss our options. Our VRBO messages went unanswered. Our phone call went unanswered. When we finally got a text response, they told us the rain is what gives Kauai its nickname "The Garden Island" and suggested we bring "a flexible plan and rain gear." We weren't being difficult. We wrote back and told them we weren't opposed to being rained on -- our concern was flooding, loss of power, or being stuck on the island. I asked them directly: "Will my family be safe during this massive storm in your place?" Their response? They told us, "I don't mean to downplay the news coverage, but this is fairly typical winter weather for Kauai." They assured us the rental was "not located in a flood zone." Fairly typical winter weather. Not in a flood zone. Here's what actually happened: The Governor declared a STATE OF EMERGENCY. Roads in Poipu -- the exact neighborhood of this house -- were closed due to flooding. Ho'one Road and Ku'ai Road, right by this property, were shut down. The islands were hit with up to 44 inches of rain and 135-mph winds. Schools and government offices closed. Over 120,000 customers lost power across the state. Beaches were closed under brown water advisories warning of sewage overflow and hazardous bacteria. The Red Cross and Salvation Army mobilized relief efforts. Residents were evacuated into emergency shelters. So much for "fairly typical winter weather." So much for "not in a flood zone." And here's what makes it worse: the forecast they themselves included in their own message showed 90-100% chance of rain with thunderstorms and wind gusts up to 50 mph for EVERY SINGLE DAY of our trip. Their own evidence showed this was not typical. They sent it to us and still told us to come. We never made it to Kauai. We couldn't. It would have been dangerous and irresponsible to bring our families -- our kids -- into that situation. Garden Island Properties refused any refund. VRBO has been contacted twice by phone, was promised a resolution email both times, and as of this writing we've received nothing. $8,000. Gone. For a house we never stepped foot in, on an island we never reached, during a declared state of emergency that the property manager called "fairly typical." This is not a review about the weather. Nobody controls the weather. This is a review about a property management company that had every piece of information -- including their own forecast -- telling them this was a dangerous, historic storm, and they still chose to encourage a family with children to fly into it rather than do the right thing. I asked them point blank if my family would be safe. They couldn't even answer the question. They chose profit over safety. Period. If you are considering booking with Garden Island Properties, understand this: when things go wrong -- and in Hawaii, weather can go very wrong -- this company will not have your back. They will take your money, send you a canned aloha, and wish you luck.

This is the case with the people at Garden Island Properties. A week prior to our departure, we sadly had to cancel our travel to Kauai Island because our daughter was hospitalized. I had already paid in full for our three week rental (60 days prior to our departure date) and I did not purchase insurance. This could have been the end of the story because everyone had already been paid. But, the people at Garden Island Properties worked tirelessly to find another renter so we could recover some of our money. The humanity they showed, and the effort they made on our behalf has made me a loyal customer, and I plan to use them to help me with future rental properties going forth. I will also purchase travel insurance!
