We had to park on the side of the entrance road. No daily room cleaning. They charge you up to $30 depending one what kind of housekeeping service you need for that day. I hesitantly booked KK219. I say hesitantly because I really wanted the resort experience that I was able to enjoy last time in Kauai. However, due to a last minute flight deal, I was unable to get into a resort I wanted due to lack of rooms and high prices. I thought a condo with a kitchen was an OK compromise, but I was REALLY worried about choosing this place because AFTER I paid for the nonrefundable room, I read many poor reviews. The day before arrival I received an email with my check in information. There was no mention of having to check in at a different location like others mentioned. I worried about not "officially" checking in anywhere, but no one called or came to the unit so...? 219 had a portable window air conditioner, which I was thankful for. Even in November the temp reached 85 each day with near 90% humidity. It wasn't quite enough to cool the bedroom the way I wanted, but it made it bearable. Like others said, the unit was not sparkly clean like one would expect when paying such an exorbitant cleaning fee. It was good enough though, and nothing made be feel grossed out. We also had a washer and dryer, but it had a small load capacity and they only gave us 5 laundry pods. That felt pretty cheap. There were plenty of dishes, towels, toilet paper, etc, and they were clean. Others mentioned the "second bedroom" and the crappy sofa bed, and I have to agree that they could really up this place by replacing it with a real bed. Particularly because not only is the AC in the same room (and not able to be moved, so it was the coolest room), but because there is no TV in the bedroom. We attempted to use the sofa bed and gave up because it was awful. Beach access: No, there is none directly from the property, but there is a gate the leads immediately to the adjacent (and really nice looking) property next door. The beach is not suitable for swimming, but like I said about the last place I stayed, there are so many other beaches on the island that you cant really complain. Plus, no swimming equals very few people. My biggest concern, and only gripe, was that on our first morning a man just WALKED into the unit. We were both in bed and, alarmed, I yelled, "Excuse me!!!" He said sorry and quickly backed out. Our door was shut and locked, and so I called Vacasa. The guy seemed totally uninterested and I don't even know if anyone came to look at the lock, but we regularly checked it when leaving after that it was always secure. All in all I would stay again. Four nights cost just under $900 and having the full kitchen enabled us to skip paying for breakfasts, dinners, and snacks, so that was a great way to save. I would stay here again if I were looking for a budget place. Oh, and last but not least: we were in the building closest to the road and didn't hear any traffic at all. We booked through vrbo.com and stayed in unit KK 204. The reviews for this unit on vrbo are 4.9/5 and I'm honestly not sure why. The walls and baseboards, living room rug, and couch/chairs could use a deep cleaning. The furniture and rug had stains/dirt all over them. The bathroom rug was filthy. There were crumbs all over the bar seats. The dishes were ALL dirty and looked like someone washed them in the dishwasher without scrubbing or rinsing them (there was still food/drinks/lip marks on almost every single cup, plate, pot, silverware, etc. and I had to hand wash everything before using them). The rice cooker is a basic cooker that will burn the rice if you leave it on warm (not the type of rice cooker people normally use). The unit has two couches, one of which is a hide-a-bed in the bonus room. Not sure why they don't just put in a normal bed instead of the hide-a-bed since it's extremely uncomfortable and squeaks any time you move or shift. The 3 sliding doors that separate the bonus room from the living room stick after the first door slides out and we didn't realize all three of them slide out until the day before we left after using a lot of force to get them to move. The pillows are saggy and old and don't give any neck support. Some of them had huge orange stains which was super gross. The main bed was extremely stiff and uncomfortable. The windows in the main bedroom and bathroom are "jalousie" style windows (new to me) and are right outside of the walkway. You can hear a lot of noise from outside since the windows don't really block any sound. There was a rooster that would sleep on the fence right outside every night and woke us up between 4-6 am every day. The upstairs neighbors (not sure if they were visiting or are residents) would let their front door slam and literally stomped when they walked. Their kids would jump up and down and they would slide furniture around without ever attempting to be considerate and be a little quieter. They also did laundry late at night, which is super loud. They were the loudest neighbors we've ever had, and we live in an apartment building with a lot of inconsiderate people, so that's saying something. People constantly park in the reserved spots late at night despite the spots saying "reserved". Our parking spot was taken 2/5 nights we were there and I saw the same cars parking in other spots. The owner told us to call maintenance and said they would "put a note on their car" (as if that's going to do anything). The tv and/or remote would not properly load Netflix (even with new batteries and trying numerous times). It only loaded the account and then the remote would stop moving, so we weren't able to watch anything. The bedroom closets don't really have dressers/shelves to put clothes away on (main bedroom has a few very small ones in the corner). The A/C is a standalone unit in the living room that doesn't reach the main bedroom or bathroom as much and takes a while to cool the whole unit off when it's very hot (and you will definitely want it on since the trade winds blowing through are not going to cool the unit off by themselves). The few positives were - good location, bananas right outside!, lots of snorkel gear, beach chairs, two boogie boards, lots of laundry soap to do laundry and the kitchen was very well stocked with all the utensils and cooking gear you would need. The ocean view is nice and the pools were alright. (Oh also - the beach right out front had numerous tiny bluebottle jellyfish and my daughter got stung by one in the few feet of water on the beach. This was the only beach we saw them on.) I wish I had checked other review sites before booking this unit since this had a huge negative impact on our whole vacation. I stayed here because of the glowing reviews and no noise complaints and was highly disappointed when I discovered there were so many negatives here. I have been coming to Kauai Kailani for almost 40 years as a timeshare owner. Like anyplace you are comfortable with, you tend to forget the minor problems. Yes, it is kind of "tired" on all fronts. Yeah, the pots and pans are scratched and in poor shape. What you do get is a one bedroom with a full kitchen that sleeps up to 5 people. You also get a accommodation that is on the ocean side of the highway right across the street from restaurants and a Safeway. You should know that Kauai Kailani is actually two buildings with KK I being right on the ocean and KK II between KK I and the highway. Each comes with their own swimming pool. If you can get a reservation you can expect to pay under $90 a night. That is a true value no matter how worn things may be. read more

Be prepared to get charged extra fees that are hidden when booking. We were there less then 6 hours after getting in from a late flight. We were charged thru hotels.com and then charged an additional $120 to clean the room. I never intended to spend so much on a poor quality hotel. We would have stayed at a nicer resort for a similar cost. Also the check in process is confusing, you have to check in at another hotel and then go back to that location. This "2 bedroom" condo is underwhelming. The biggest gripe we had was the second bedroom has just a very uncomfortable pull out couch. It's set up as a bedroom and can only really be used for that. Why not spend a bit extra on REAL beds to make sure the guests are comfortable? Like seriously. The pull out couch bed sucks! It's all springs, super noisy, and will ensure you get a terrible nights rest. There's no AC, but if you keep all the windows open and the fans on, it's not so bad. The balcony is nice, and the location is solid. All in all 2/5 starts. read more

We rented this condo after the renovations and walked into a very beautiful condo that had magnificent views of the ocean and coastline. The lanai was very large and we stayed on the second floor so it made our view even better. We did not need to check in as we rented directly from pacificCondosKauai and they sent us everything we needed to access the condo. The full kitchen and walking distance to everything was a plus. Loved having the bike path and waking up to the sunrises. read more

We live in Oahu and chose this place because of the price. We didn't get the building closest to the beach so we didn't get the breeze that comes from the ocean so we slept very uncomfortable because the unit did not have air conditioning. It was weird because I saw some units that had AC installed in them. Checking in was kind of weird because we had to go to the front desk of the hotel next door, which in my guess manages the Kauai Kailani. There are hookups for washer and dryer but our unit did not have one. That bothered me because as I was walking the hallways I heard several washing machines going. The place is walking distance from Safeway, Starbucks, ABC store, and some restaurants. There is no daily cleaning service and you have to take out your own trash. That blew my mind. We paid $120 for a cleaning fee but there was no cleaning done for us. My kids slept in a pull out bed so that was a plus. Pros: -Walking distance to some restaurants, stores, and supermarket -Clean and spacious room with cable and free wi-fi -Friendly staff at check-in -Updated stove, fridge, and counters Cons: -No air conditioning in my unit -No daily room service. They only provide one day of service if you're staying for more than 10 days -No washer or dryer in room or on premises I would only stay at this place again if there AC in the room and being in the building closest to the beach is guaranteed. If that's not available then I would rather pay a little more to be comfortable. read more

This is a great place for families or for people who just want a clean room. We had the 1 bedroom with den. The kitchen didn't have the best pans to cook in so it might be best to get something better and cheap from Walmart. Lots of food and shopping close by and close to lydgate beach. Room was clean and comfortable. The property had a blocked view and there isn't really safe beach access. We checked in late with security at a nearby property and experienced no issues. This place isn't fancy, no spa, no restaurant, no great pools, but it does the job. PS: no elevators and no AC. We came for thanksgiving so we didn't require AC but I would hate to stay here in the summer! read more

Great location. Nothing fancy. Beds could stand new mattresses. You only get two rolls of toilet paper then need to buy your own. We stayed 10 days never received clean towels. Mind you we could have gotten them for $12 per day. Our unit faced the ocean and it was so relaxing to hear the waves crashing at night. Amazing sunrises. ROOM I stayed in the 2 bedroom/1 bath Ocean View room for 2 nights. It looks worn down on the outside, but the room and restroom is definitely clean and in good condition. The apartment is very spacious consisting of 1 full bed and 2 twin beds. There was a strong bleach smell when entering at first, but the odor disappeared once I started airing out the apartment. The kitchen had everything that you needed to cook something simple, and the cookwares, plates, utensils looked new. The only thing that bothered me was the 19" flatscreen TV in the corner, but the free wi-fi definitely made up for it. LOCATION A small town with lots of small restaurants just down the street, Safeway across the street and its located close to the airport. Its a quiet place at night and you can hear the waves coming as you sleep SERVICE Very friendly service. The apartment is under new management so it took awhile to check out because they were learning a new system. I would stay here again, it feels homely. read more

I am between two and three stars . It is newly remodeled and the interior is quite nice . The frustrating part is the building near the ocean was under renovations so we got the road building which was noisy . There is no five on site so we were confused on arrival as where to check in. Luckily there was an open house and the realtor was helpful in directing us back up the street to an older establishment . I felt I was walking into a scene from Dirty Dancing . Which isn't a bad thing just weird . We were not allowed to check in until 3 pm so we took a tour on the island coast hwy. We returned about 5 and the associate provided us our key code . The room was missing a few "condo" essentials . A washer / dryer even though there was a spot for one . So we had to go to the local laundromat . A blow dryer (I left mine at home since most motels now have them ) Towel hooks to hang your bath / beach towels . Salt and pepper - we bought disposables and left them for the next people. The place was located directly across from Safeway / Starbucks/ABC store so there were things with in walking distance . There was a nice beach out back - quiet and short but on a lava reef so winter swimming / snorkeling was iffy . Over all I may stay there again for the price but would request a unit away from the main road . read more

Avoid at all costs. We have been returning to Kauai Kailani for over 15 years and we just returned for our very last trip at this construction site. This is not a resort and I really don't see how Castle Resorts can call it such. This is a construction zone. More than 1/2 of the rooms are under major construction and there is construction fencing everywhere. You get to listen to equipment, hammering, demolition all day - and construction workers, fighting & partying all night. You get the adventure of trying to find a place to park around all of the construction fencing. Your reservation will most likely not be honored...oh they may have a room (or maybe not) but it won't likely be the one you reserved and the manager is completely unapologetic about it. He doesn't care if you stay there or not...he doesn't care if you like the resort or not. He really shouldn't be any where near the Hospitality Industry - he's rude, difficult, oh and did I mention rude! If he is indicative of Castle Resorts stands on customer care, then I will also be sure to avoid all Castle Resorts in the future because this care standard is the worst I've ever experienced anywhere. Motel 6 has a better understanding of Client Care that this manager does. If you are really going to a tropical paradise island, please do not waste your money on Kauai Kailani or any Castle Resorts. read more

I have been to kapaa many times but this is my first time staying at the Kauai kailani. The front door doesn't lock even after shutting it kinda hard numerous times. I even punched in the wrong code and it still opened. When I arrived they couldn't find my reservation so I waited about 30 min. They must have put me in a not so desirable room since they couldn't find my reservation but I pulled up the email and it was prepaid. The lady in the iso office that checked me in was very nice. I also booked a room with a washer and dryer because I'm on my monthly cycle and there is no washer and dryer in my unit. There is no ac only fans and my feet are black immediately after walking around for five min barefoot. The tv doesn't work either and I booked for three days. I called the iso desk and spoke to someone different who did not check me in who was very rude so that's why I'm leaving this review because they management does not care about making my stay comfortable. read more

We stayed in unit 318. It was newly remodelled with washing machine/drier and 2 zone air conditioning. We were not ocean front but we had a private balcony with a beautiful tree just outside and a view of the second swimming pool. The location is very convenient. Across the street from grocery shopping and a number of restaurants. It is block from the bike path that we ran and biked on almost everyday. We rented bikes from just down the street, very convenient for getting around. It is centrally located to go either north or south. read more

Difficult to locate the address in ORbitz is incorrect and when I called the 800 the indicated that I would go dirrectly to the location to check in. Got to the location and no place to check in and the woman next door said I needed to go to the Bull Shed to check in - back in the car again. Once we got checked in it was smooth sailing we had an oceanfront room on the 2nd foor and were surprised that there were 3 bedrooms and 2.5 bath for just the two of us. Second week we had a non ocean view and it was not so nice. I would go back but only for ocean view availability. Tip: The resort is just north of Wailpoli Beach Resort and check in is just a bit south of Wailpoli. read more
