This hotel was amazing, small and quaint, family run. Meet the owner while in the midst of upgrades The staff was amazing, room was clean and fresh, the view from our second floor room was fabulous and breathtaking Yes, getting out the parking lot of the hotel at certain times of the day is a little hard but bring your patience with you, I just turned on my blinker an 9 times out of 10, a local would slow/stop and let you out You have to remember this is a small island and as we are there on vacation they live an work there year round There is lots to do an see.... amazing beaches, places to eat, friendly people I will defiantly go back and stay at Hotel Coral Reef Oh they have a little cafe on property too only for breakfast an early lunch

Customer Service 5/5 : the lady helping my family and I were super nice, welcoming, accommodating to our needs, gave us great information about the hotel as well as the surround areas around it. The hotel has a lot of history which is on a pamphlet they give you at check in. Hotel itself 4/5 : the hotel inside is a-little out dated but it didn't put a damper on our vacation. Every room pretty much had an ocean view. We also had a balcony so it was nice just hearing the waves from the ocean. The room had everything we needed (ex: a comfy bed, toiletries, fresh towels, mini fridge, microwave, tv, ice machine, air conditioning, etc). They also have a private pool for the Guests which can be accessed by a code, it's a beach front property so literally you are next to the beach so perfect for morning walks, etc. they even offer you bikes so you can explore around the hotel. Parking I would honestly give it a 3/5 : very limited stalls that get taken up fairly quickly. This was the only issue we had while staying here. Would I stay here again? Yes! Would I recommend this place to others? Yes! Overall review on this place.. 4/5 definitely recommend it!

One of the many cockroaches I found in the room.

The room was dirty, even beyond what I would expect from Hawaii. I noticed the toilet and bathroom floor wasn't clean when I first entered the room. The coffee maker still had used coffee inside it. I didn't make a big deal of this. The next morning I found multiple cockroaches in the room. One ran and hid squeezing into a hole next to the bathtub. There was another up along the top of the ceiling. And another was on the bathroom curtain as I was taking a shower. When I asked to be moved to a different room, the only option the manager gave me was to upgrade to a more expensive room and go back to the same room my last night or go somewhere else. I decided to leave. I hear the ocean facing rooms are better, but for the going rate, I would pay a little more and stay at the nearby Kauai Shores.

I'm beyond right now. My first night on a beautiful vacation is ruined by a disgusting hotel room. Just ruined. And when I called the after hours she just said "sorry we are sold out.:.I don't clean the room..." no ownership. I suggested she spend the night in one of their economy rooms. I read reviews. They were all great. How was I supposed to know I was basically getting a flop house room filled with stains and roaches. Thanks Hotel Coral Reef. I have not given a business one star in years. The state of this room and the response of the after hours line pushed me over the edge. I would prefer to sleep on the beach.

This really is a no frill motel. As long you don't expect Ritz Carlton you will be fine. Yes, everything is a bit outdated. We came on a down pour Christmas Eve 2019 and the whole parking lot was flooded. There's additional parking on the back behind the juice store. There's no elevator to our room on the 2nd floor with our two heavy suitcases. But the motel is perfect for walking distance to many great restaurants in the area. The grandma owner makes the most delicious banana bread every morning. They have water and tea available til I think 9pm. Although the room is small, there's a fridge and microwave for you to use. They have fluffy big beach blankets for you to borrow. We also took advantage of the free bikes and rode up and down the coastal bike paths just out in the back. If you are out and about enjoying Kauai, you won't be long in your room.

Great experience!!! Small, open and cute resort. The stuff is very helpful and hospitable. They upgraded our room without any extra cost. We could use all the facilities, including pool, ice machine and laundry. Everything was sparkling clean. Even after the check out we were able to use their space to keep our extra bags in the lobby and explore the town. They let us use their bikes. The stuff gave us some helpful information as We usually like from locals.. Beach is right infront of the hotel. We give 5* without hesitation.

We had to make last minute hotel plans so we started off at the Hotel Coral Reef with plans to end up at the Hilton using bonus points. We had such fun and a warm welcome at the Coral Reef that we stayed on and canceled our 2 free nights' stay at the Hilton! Auntie Peggy Sue makes banana bread everyday for her guests. Her laughter fills the reception area all day long. She is a treasure! Pall just started working here and is so outgoing that he makes you feel like a VIP. He can answer your questions about travel plans and tours. Peggy Sue's family all work at the hotel so this establishment embodies the true Ohana spirit. Mahalo for a great time!

Trash below broken dispenser in room with broken dryer

We just completed a our 2nd stay at this Motel; the first was in June of 2017. The location was and remains well situated for access to restaurants and shops in Kapa'a, as well as the trail that fronts much of the coast in this area. And room comes with a free cold breakfast, with good quality baked goods daily. Beyond that it is hard to find a positive, particularly when every day and almost everywhere one looks is a huge un-maintained mess from many of the details in the room, to the grounds. Examples: stoppers in sinks either missing or not operational, burned out light bulbs, safes either not operational or not bolted to wall, shutters broken in multiple ways (looks like every room on 1st and 2nd floors), chairs cracked and worn, the dryer in the (filthy) laundry room heats up clothes but no air movement for actually drying the clothes, lose or missing knobs on furniture, varnish worn off of furniture, springs worn out in mattress, trash piled up around bicycle area, bikes rusted out and barely functional. We stayed in a period of periodic heavy rain and one evening a large swath of the parking lot flooded; the sump pump which had been rolled up and unplugged was eventually repaired and the excess water was dumped into the street. This was a very nice and freshly remodeled place when we stayed here almost 3 years ago, but it has been missing a lot of very simple maintenance along with things that have not aged well (like the furniture and JACUZZI tubs) and it is really showing. I am very unclear on what happened; our inquiry to the staff blamed the absentee owners (was not the case 3 years ago). They recently added a 3rd story to the building (which uses curtains instead of broken shutters, so being newer the issues we had with our rooms on the 1st and 2nd floors might not be as pronounced). Another issue is that the staff generally cuts corners on servicing rooms, including being very stingy with extra requests (such as additional towels). Unfortunately after this most recent experience for a week long stay, I can no longer recommend this Motel despite the excellent location.

It has all of the requisite HGI necessities such as clean, standardized rooms, available breakfast made to order, and a price point that does not break the bank compared to big resorts on Kaua'i. I had a comfortable stay here with easy parking, a comfortable room, and good wi-fi. It doesn't hurt that you can see the ocean from some rooms and that the property grounds have some unexpected nice touches such as a koi pond water feature, a spacious airy lobby open to the outside, and easy self parking for a fee. In this genre of Hilton portfolio hotel, it hits a bit above its expected weight. What keeps it in the 4-star range (instead of 5) is its location. It is relatively near Lihue and the airport (about a 12-15 min drive) but far from any of the major resort spots that Kaua'i is really known for (like Poipu or Princeville). Its location is just a couple of minutes drive outside of Kapa'a and if you are not looking for a high end vacation resort experience, this will suffice as a place to lay your head with confidence while helping you respect a moderate budget. It is not cheap by most HGI standards but it is reasonable by local Kaua'i lodging standards. A rental car is a must if you choose to stay here because there really is nothing around you within easy or safe walking distance. That is a problem if you are here to be a tourist and see some sights and places that The Garden Isle is known for. It is this location that keeps the pricing here down but the inconvenience factor high. I liked this property for what it was and I would stay here again if my reason for coming to Kaua'i was for anything other than a higher end resort experience. I'm sure there are even cheaper places to stay on this island but then again, I don't think that the Salvation Army has a loyalty program or a koi pond.

We were locked out of our room (cottage 3121) for forty five minutes yesterday, because the battery to the outside door lock died. Then, later that evening, we had to call maintenance again because the inside lock is broken. 4/30/26: we decided the price was not worth this crap hole. When we went to check out and cancel our week reservation, they didn't even try to remedy any situation. We are Diamond Hilton member's and there are pretty much zero perks for us loyal customers. Still had to pay $25 a day for parking! Like....come on. Pro: bed was comfy We ended up booking a airbnb instead. So we'll be paying a little more for our trip, but its worth it. I would seriously avoid this property if you can. But if you are on a budget, it might be okay. Make sure to look at all of the reviews!!!!

We arrived early in the day so we're not able to get into our room but the staff held our luggage and recommended a few places to eat and watch football. Once able to get into our room which was on the 3rd floor looking over the pool area but far enough away from the noise. The room was quite large with a great kitchen area with granite counter tops and nice appliances. Also a large bathroom with tub and separate shower area as well as two toilets. It was a one bedroom. There was a small lanai off the bedroom and you could open the sliding door from the living room. There was also a washer/dryer in the room. The view from the room looked over the whole pool area which has a winding pool that you can walk around over to the main pool. They also had gas grills to use and many people did. One note is if you open the sliding door in the living room area and don't match up the line in the top of the doors, the air conditioning doesn't go on. We thought the air conditioning quit. After calling the front office someone came within an hour. Told us about the line. We also had an issue with the washer and after a call to the front desk a maintenance person was there within an hour. The staff we interacted with were very friendly and very helpful. Giving us recommendations for a place for fresh fish to grill. There is also a small restaurant which we tried a few nights for some drinks and appetizers. The views of the ocean are great. There are also chairs to sit on the beach area and enjoy the water. The beach is not large but very clean and nice to relax at. There is a shopping center across the street to buy things for the condo. We will stay here again next time in the area.

Unfortunately, the service and overall guest experience did not match the luxury price tag. The arrival experience was confusing. The valet area is congested, there was no one directing guests when we arrived, and it took several minutes before anyone acknowledged us. There is also no clearly marked front desk, so we weren't sure where to check in. everyone else was greeted with a kukui nut lei except for us before sitting down for check in. not that we wanted it since we live in Hawaii but we felt like we were treated like outcasts. We had ants in our room both nights of our stay. The first night they were on the countertop, and the second night they were throughout the carpet as well. There are no ice machines, and three employees we asked could not tell us how to get ice. We eventually learned that guests must call and have it delivered to their room. Signage throughout the property is poor. Other guests had to direct us to the beach, and it was difficult to find the adults-only pool. Families should also know there are no lifeguards on duty. hours are not posted. we had to ask about the hours for the pool and the weight room. While the setting is beautiful, the lack of organization, communication, and attention to detail left us disappointed. For the price, we expected a much better experience. the only saving grace was the beautiful gym that was open 24 hrs.

Walking in to the lobby felt like we were at a premium resort and definitely put us in the right mood. There's a bar and Hukilau Lanai right in the lobby. You can make reservations through Open Table for the restaurant. There's no valet that I saw when we pulled up or a bellboy to help with your bags. Or at least, I didn't see one or ask for one. The check-in process was normal, but after checking in, you are directed to go see the Concierge. I waited a good 15 minutes just to find out that since I'm a member, he doesn't have access to my account and was asked to come back in the morning to talk to someone that does. I wish that all Shell properties would stop this practice altogether. It's already enough that we spent hours traveling to this beautiful property and want to get to our rooms to unwind and freshen up. We do not have time to sit through some kind of pitch. Because I didn't see the Concierge the next morning, they sent me a text and also placed a door tag on my door to remind me to come see them. First off, you're on vacation and do not want to spend an hour or two sitting through some kind of pitch or upsell. I don't know what the point of the wristbands was for, besides not having to carry the room key with you, it was pointless. So I would ignore going to the Concierge altogether. I don't know what was in the Welcome package and didn't want to fall in to that trap, so I just ignored having to go see the Concierge. The property grounds had 1 large pool, 2 smaller 1.5' deep pools and a jacuzzi. There were also a couple of grills and a bar by the pool, which was great. And I saw them being used throughout our stay. There's a nice walkway to other properties or to the beach. Unfortunately, there's no beach access right on the property. Parking was free and you didn't have to hang any parking permit on the car. One big drawback is that there are no elevators. So you'll have to lug all of your items up the stairs. We stayed on the 3rd floor and had our luggage and stuff we bought at Costco. I wished they would have turned on the A/C in the hallways to help with the heat. It was stuffy by the time we got to the top floor. Luckily, the A/C in our room was working well. Our suite was nice and big with all of the amenities needed for our stay. We even did some laundry on our last day and there were 2 packs of detergent provided. We had bath & pool towels in the room. WiFi was just ok, it wasn't the fastest being at 20mbps up and down. It's fine for 2 people, but could bog down with more devices. One of the best things about this location is it's right across the street from the Coconut Marketplace. You'll be able to find pretty much anything you need there. We stopped by here on our way out to Waimea Canyon and also picked up dinner at the store in the deli area. Was also able to grab some souvenirs and shopping on our last day. We've only stayed at Poipu our last 2 visits, but would definitely come back here again. If you decide to come here, ignore going to the Concierge please and don't believe that you need to get their wristbands. We were able to walk around the property and nobody stopped us.

Parking is easy and convenient, and the Coconut Marketplace with ABC store within walking distance really made this location awesome with easy access to shops, grocery, and food. We really missed the convenience later in the trip at another resort. Downtown Kapaa is also a short drive or walk away. The lack of elevators is a major downside at this location, however. For our party, staying three floors up with no elevators was inconvenient but doable, but for others it could be impossible so please be aware and call ahead if this is an issue for you. I did hear that the resort will be undergoing a renovation soon, and I sincerely hope elevators are a priority.
