We absolutely loved staying here! Located outside of Poipu in Kōloa, it was busy but wasn't super crowded around this area. The parking lot would get full at times, but we were always able to find a spot. They have quiet hours posted, but honestly, noise was never a problem here. I'm sure they were busy and full because of the parking lot, but we rarely heard or saw anyone! They also have elevator access and luggage carts which was helpful for when we received our Instacart order. Located right on the ocean, we had a remarkable view of Hoai Bay and Prince Kuhio Beach from our living room/dining room as well as our Lanai. We enjoyed relaxing on the lanai, listening to the waves and watching for sea turtles, which was saw many! Locals would come to the beach to fish and even that was fun to watch! There's also a ton of roosters and chickens, and the roosters crow all day, not just in the mornings lol! We also saw thousands of rose ringed parakeets flying into the area in the morning and flying out at night! Showers and foot baths were located in the parking lot to rinse off prior to returning from the beach. We had to take our trash out a couple of times during our stay, and that was located at the end of the parking lot near the BBQ area. The staff was friendly, although our interaction with them was minimal. One kind gentleman on staff offered to take my trash for me and told me to go enjoy my day, that taking out the trash was a horrible thing to have to do on vacation! I only wish the facility had a pool, but based on the fact the backyard of the grounds in literally the ocean, I get why they don't offer that amenity lol! read more

The other two condos didn't have them and it is difficult to carry the suitcases up the stairs. The condo looked bigger on the pictures because it has wall mirrors on both sides of the walls. Our family was instantly mesmerized by the ocean view as soon as we opened the doors to unit #211. This unit has an open floor plan with lots of seating so we were able to host some friends, drink some wine and watch the sunset. The view is so beautiful that we almost never wanted to leave the unit. When we did we were minutes away from some favorites such as Sueoka Market (Hawaiian lunch plates) and Koloa Fish Market (poke) and Lappert's Ice Cream (for coffee). We attended a wedding at the Beach House and it was literally next door so this was the perfect stay for us. We would not hesitate to stay here again if in Kauai. Minor inconvenience - there's no in unit laundry so plan accordingly. There's a laundry setup on each floor that requires $6 in quarters per load ($1 soap, $2.50 wash, $2.50 dry). read more

The Kuhio Shores condo, as long as you get a direct oceanfront unit, are a great way to spend your Poipu vacation. Centrally located and right by a small beach suitable for snorkeling and even swimming. However exactly how much you you enjoy your vacation can depend on how well furnished and upgraded your unit might be. We had a direct ocean front near end unit but the owner had not upgraded it much but we still had a great time. As such, I'd say that unit 202 needs some work including especially a new mattress and better bedding pillows before I could recommend it. read more

My husband and I loved our rental so much we feel inclined to let others know as well! If you ever visit Kauai, please consider condo 216!! We weren't sure what to expect, but this condo definitely was beyond what we imagined. Their condo specifically was stacked with every item/ amenity you could think of. They had a cooler, an umbrella, chairs, sunscreen, tea, coffee, beach towels, etc. Specifically Kuhio shores is right on the ocean and steps away from the best snorkeling beach in the Southshore. Almost every condo seems to have a gorgeous view and an added bonus is the ocean is just steps away. They offer free parking to tenants as well. An added bonus is they are just a short ride, or 15 walk from the busier Poipu beach. Their pricing was very reasonable and they were very quick to answer us via email. We couldn't' have asked for a better vacation rental! read more

My super sleuthing bf found this condo for rent when we were planning this trip to Kauai, and it ended up being awesome! Our unit, #105, is owned and rented out by Karen Howard and Dave Arute, at Honu Nalu Vacation Rentals (reservations@honu-nalu.com or 650.622.9909). $150/night for a fully furnished, one bedroom condo right on the water was a last-minute steal! After giving her a credit card number to secure the refundable $250 deposit, a one-time $95 cleaning fee, and the daily rate, Karen emailed us a confirmation with detailed directions to the condo, and the lock code for the keyless door. We parked in their ample lot, and used the luggage cart in the building's lobby for our stuff. We punched in our code, opened the door, and aah...we were home! The bedroom had a king sized bed with puffy bedspread, ceiling fan, big closet, iPod dock, flat screen TV, DVDs, books (like a Kauai travel book), clock radio, safe, dresser, wireless modem with password, bedside tables, and a cordless phone. Another cordless phone extension was in the kitchen, and the number was in our confirmation paperwork. The sweetest touch was a bottle of chilled champagne and two flutes in the fridge for us! SO NICE! The living and dining rooms had a wall of openable windows and a sliding glass door that opened onto our first-floor lanai. The "backyard" beyond our patio (with a table, chairs, and pool loungers) was grass, and then a 4-ish foot drop onto rocks and the gorgeous ocean! We immediately saw three BIG TURTLES swimming in the water right here!! OMG they were SO cute, and huge, and just sloshing about in the water and on the rocks. The kitchen had an electric stove/oven with 4 burners, a fridge (with fresh ice), microwave, coffee maker, blender, dishes, glasses, utensils, cooking utensils, pots and pans, bakeware, tupperware, etc. It all proved super handy throughout our stay, especially the dishwasher! It was also helpful that they had salt, pepper, oil, rice, maple syrup, dishwashing soap cubes, a sponge, paper towels, toilet paper, candles and even Ziplocks there. The living room had a CD player, a flat screen TV with cable, a couple of chairs with ottomans, a coffee table and a sleeper sofa. We ate at that sofa and on our lanai instead of the big dining table the whole time. The hall closet had recreational stuff for two: a woven beach mat, fishing poles, water shoes, snorkeling gear, beach chairs and umbrellas, a boogie board and small cooler. Super handy when we went to the beach! The linen closet had a sleeping bag, beach towels, and extra pillows, blankets and towels. The towels in the bathroom were thick and fluffy, and the bedsheets were a high thread count. There was a hair dryer in the bathroom, and even lotion and hand soap. Since there was no air conditioning, we made use of the box fan and smaller Vornado that was there, and I appreciated the ceiling fan in the bathroom. The front door had a screened, separately locking door so that helped with air circulation too. It was early September when we came here, so it wasn't as hot as the peak summer months. The nights were almost cool enough, but I run warm so I would have run an air conditioner - especially in the bedroom at night - if there was one. If it had been a warmer time of year, I would have defnitely needed some more cooling! We signed our rental car license number in the book in the lobby on our first day here, and got a parking permit from the friendly maintenance guy to leave in the car. The building is very well maintained - it has a big goldfish in an outside bowl when you're walking into the building, green plants throughout the common areas, and healthy grass bordering the lanais that are on the water. At night, we would see the building's security guard as he triggered the motion sensor light by walking by our lanai. It made us feel super secure! Aside from the rocky shore right outside our lanai, there was a snorkeling beach with access on the far side of our building, and a snorkel rental place next door. Coming back from that beach one day, we used our building's outdoor shower to wash off all our stuff and ourselves - so convenient! We never had a chance to use the BBQ grill for the building, but we did use the coin operated washers and dryers ($1.50/load to each wash and dry). It was helpful that they posted the run time on those machines, and ven had a detergent vending machine. The laundry room had a sign that the electricity would be turned off at 9pm sharp, to cut back on noise. We did notice that this was a quiet building. Nothing alleviates the pain of coming home from vacation more than a suitcase full of clean clothes! Well, except maybe going on ANOTHER vacation, lol. This review is for Condo #206. Each condo is independently owned, if you're looking to stay here, I'd check the website for more info on each condo, and contact that owner specifically. So, for Condo #206: We LOVED this place. The condo is beautiful. Very well decorated, recently updated (I think in 2005), and has everything you could ever want. It's in a good location between West Kauai (and the Waimea Canyon), and East/North Kauai. There are good restaurants nearby, shopping, and other local sights to see (Spouting Horn & the Botanical Gardens, to name a couple). The kitchen is fully stocked: pots, pans, dishes, utensils, even spices and dish soap. The appliances are all new as well. We loved the open floor plan of this great room, it made the place feel so much bigger. There is no a/c in this unit, but there are 2 ceiling fans: 1 in the bedroom, and 1 in the living room/great room. When the huge lanai windows & door are open, and the fans are on, you get the best breeze, we didn't even miss the a/c (and I'm always warm at home, so I was nervous). I even used my hair dryer and straightener--in 90 degree heat! There is high-speed internet (free!) and cable (tv in living room and in bedroom, both have dvd players on them). There are also lawn chairs, snorkel gear, and boogie boards if you want! They've really thought of everything. There are towels (beach and shower), linens, etc. There are laundry facilities at the end of the hall (which we found out about the day we were leaving, oops!). The building itself is pretty quiet, which was such a welcome change of pace, having just come from our wedding. It was so relaxing! The Beach House restaurant is right next door, you can walk to it. Sea turtles can be found swimming in the cove below the lanai almost daily (mid-afternoon is your best bet, about 2-3pm), and there is great snorkeling right in front of the Beach House (and a small sandy beach). If we're ever able to make the trip to Kauai again, we would definitely stay here. It was just perfect. The only "negative" (which we didn't even miss, really) is that there is no pool here. We hardly missed it, but it would be a nice plus if they ever had room to add one. read more

We stayed in unit 109. Stayed here in 2007. We really enjoyed the condo living -- especially after doing the hotel thing on our visit before. The location is excellent. It's close to Poipu. We stayed in a ground-level condo here. See the pictures I've attached. I relaxed at this location for 10 days. We had cable television and an Internet connection. I absolutely took advantage of the Lazy Boy chair. The owners of the condo, Walt and Joy (San Diego residents), are very honest people. We felt very safe doing business with them. My husband and I stayed in Condo #207 for approximately 5 days before going to the North Shore for 7 days. It was a compromise, I wanted to hear the ocean each night and he wanted the remoteness offered by the North shore. I heard the ocean every single beautiful evening, such wonderful music to my ears!! The condo is fully equipped with almost everything you need and more. My only suggestions is, it's time to re-fill the first aid kit and update the couch. Very rarely did we use the couch, as it felt like a bar was coming through. I'm picky when it comes to shower heads and this one is great with just the right amount of pressure. This condo has ample parking, close to a wonderful must try restaurant, The Beach House. Each day we enjoyed beautiful sunrises from our lanai and sunsets just on the other side of the building. Upgrade the furniture a bit and this easily becomes a 5 star condo!! Booking went smoothly with Lynn and we dealt with Chantelle for all the fine details of our stay. Chantelle is great and very personable. We were even greeted with an aloha treat in the fridge! Kauai Macadamia Nut Kookies, wine, waters and the aloha cooler. Stayed in condo #105. Glad to call this place home for about a week as it saved us a ton of money on going out to eat every day as there was a stove, refrigerator, dishes, dishwasher and silverware. The view from the condo was great. There was a large set of sliding glass doors and windows that looked out over the water that was constantly crashing up against the rocks. The sliding glass door led to a patio just a few steps from the ocean. There was no AC, but the weather was pretty nice and there were fans in the condo, one of which we placed in the window at night to cool the place down. Bedroom: Soft bed with pillow top, ceiling fan and small fan that we ran at night. Dresser, large closet with safe, night stands and an iPod dock, flat screen TV in the bedroom, fully stocked with DVD's and various books. Faced the garden, so it got a 'lil noisy in the morning if the gardener was outside and we were sleeping in, but not too bad otherwise. Living room: large view to outside of the ocean where we saw sea turtles. Couch with pullout bed, flat screen TV, large dining table and a CD player on the counter-top. Free WiFi and cable! Coin laundry available for $1.50 to wash / dry. Great place for the price. Some "nice to haves" that weren't available: Air conditioning, pool on site, laundry in the room and the beach was a bit rocky and rough (may have been that time of year). We barely noticed though as we spent a lot of time out of the room, and pretty much everything else we could want was there (including snorkeling gear, lawn chairs & a body board!!) We stayed in 207 and were so happy with our choice. The kitchen is very nice and everything is clean and updated. The view let us see sunrises every morning and tons of sea turtles. You can't see the sunset from the room but you can walk to the beach area or the restaurant and enjoy the view from there. It seemed very safe, not loud and we were able to rent scuba gear for the week. You can also walk to the shopping center and enjoy the farmers market, restaurants and stores. I'd stay here again. Very affordable for ocean view rooms. read more

We stayed in 217. What a great value for the waterfront location. Turtles floating in the waves every day, watch surfers surf and boats go by. We couldn't see the sunset from our unit, but it was still wonderful. Just a few minutes' drive to Poipu and the top snorkeling on this side of Kauai. Great service, comfortable and tastefully decorated, granite counter tops. They were doing construction on the other side of the building but we never heard it. read more

You can not stay any closer to the ocean! This is an excellent location. Right on the water. There are two wonderful beaches very close by. Lawai Beach is the closest and is popular for snorkeling. The Beach House Restaurant is right there as well and offers amazing sunsets. Baby Beach is a little bit further away and is a really nice beach as well. Not as busy. We spotted turtles right in the ocean. It seems to be a hangout spot for them. Overall this is one of the best places I've stayed at. read more

We just got married in Kauai, and we stayed in Kuhio Shores #303 for 6 nights. I can't imagine better accommodations. Kuhio Shores is on the waterfront across the street from Prince Kuhio Park. Traffic was relatively light and the speed limit is only 20 because of the nearby beach. This made crossing the street easy. Several mornings we went for walks or runs on the boardwalk that stretches for miles in both directions. There isn't much to see going west: houses hide the beach and a golf course is on the right. The east path is much prettier, and I found it interesting for miles. The unit was spacious and comfortable. We had a wedding party of 13, and we were able to comfortably host two dinners and a lunch. There were just enough plates. The BBQs in the parking lot were a nice addition. I hooked up my laptop to the HDTV to show slide shows. Internet access was speedy, and we were able to connect all four of our devices and our guests devices. The lanai faces east toward sunrise, which is important if you want to be comfortable in the afternoon and evening. We watched whales and turtles, and one morning we even spotted a pod of dolphins. We snorkeled near the complex and saw gigantic turtles. I had to move out of the way of one big fella. The unit does not have air conditioning. I was concerned about this when I booked it, but the proximity of the ocean and a cool breeze made it so we never needed one. It was close to 80 degrees most of the week, and we were always comfortable with the ceiling fans and rotating floor fan. The unit comes with one parking pass. We never had difficulty finding parking. A landscaping crew even blocked off a bunch of parking spaces to trim trees, but there was never an issue. Our guest were able to park on the street less than a two minute walk away. We would definitely stay here again. Why anyone would stay in a hotel and pay the ridiculous resort fees is beyond me. My new sister-in-law was charged $22.50 per person per day at her hotel. Consider that weekly hidden cost for a family of four. Kuhio Shores #303 was clean, comfortable, and beautiful. It is conveniently located for the south side of the island, and is maybe 20 minutes from the airport. I just hope we can still book the place after you read this review. read more

Awesome location on the south shore. I stay in 107 (multiple visits) which is on the cove side and gives you great breezes due to the direction of wind flow off the water. Can see sea turtles virtually every day from the lanai. Quick walk to a great snorkeling beach and a bit longer, but comfortable, walk to Spouting Horn. Highly recommended!! read more

If you don't mind falling alseep to the crashing waves at night, this is a great spot to enjoy Poipu. Being next to a top restaurant (Beach House) makes it so convenient to walk over for pupus and a cocktail. Lawai Beach isn't much but grab you snorkel gear and find some turtles. The best part of Kuhio Shores is many owners added a/c units and many months of the year you need it. I love watching the surfers from the oceanfront facing units and the bay units have beautiful sunrises. Its a good choice and I recommend my guests who stay on the North Shore with me, to experience a few nights at Kuhio Shores too. Visit Allerton Gardens just a mile away. Unit 217 is very nice. read more

Have stayed here probably a dozen times. All units are privately owned and we have only stayed in the same unit twice. They all have just been wonderful. Never had a problem with any of the units or the owners. As close to the ocean as you can get. It does not have a pool but we aren't pool people so it didn't matter to us. Just seems like our home on Kauai now, no matter what unit we have rented. Easy drive to most places on this most beautiful of all islands. Hiking, surfing, snorkeling, boat rides. Kauai has it all and you can't be more relaxed than in a unit at Kuhio shores. read more

Kuhio Shores Condo #106- It was absolutely perfect! My husband and I , and our 2 older teenage daughters, stayed at Kuhio Shores #106 for 3 nights in early August 2011. We had an amazing time, and we loved everything about it. The condo was just perfect- we called it a little jewel! It was warm, welcoming, very comfortable, immaculate, decorated with wonderful taste, and graced with spectacular views and the sound of the crashing waves day and night! It had everything we possibly needed to make it a perfect vacation, including beach chairs, snorkeling and picnic gear, internet, DVD's, and much much more. We did not have to buy anything at all, except for the fresh fish, vegetables and fruits that we grilled every night on the building's outdoor grill for three sumptuous dinners. We absolutely loved the fact that the condo was on the ground floor, and that by opening the large bay windows of the lanai, the entire outside world was ours- the nicely tended grassy area around the building, the ocean steps away, the rocks and the sea turtles, the blue-green horizon, and the picture perfect sunsets! Within minutes of us arriving, our daughters had already pulled the lounge chairs on the grass, overlooking the waves, and deemed the place to be paradise! The condo is also very conveniently located to do a lot of sightseeing, which we did! Chris, the owner, could not have been nicer, more helpful, and more generous with his time, and his ideas. Even before I had made the final reservation with him, he helped me figure out our entire itinerary around Kauai, proceeded to send us loads of info and links on what he thought we would enjoy doing with our girls from our various conversations, and continued to guide us through restaurants, places to see and things to do while we were there! We loved all 4 Hawaiian Islands we visited this summer, but Kauai remains our favorite one, and we are dreaming already about our next trip to Kuhio Shores #106. read more

Kuhio Shores 312 has the most amazing views, turtle watching and is feels like you are on a cruise ship because you are right on the water! When we walked into this condo I felt like we where in heaven! The view is unparalleled, and there were turtles swimming just in front! Make sure to bring binoculars in case they are further out. The sound of the waves is so soothing you can't help but relax. The location is perfect as it is right next to a great snorkeling beach and there is an awesome restaurant right on the there on the water. I liked the fact that you could walk a few feet and sit on the grass at the restaurant, go for a swim and then go there for lunch or dinner. There is also a barbecue outside so you can cook your dinner and go up to the balcony to eat. The kitchen has everything you need so we mostly ate at the condo. The furnishings are very nice and the owners are very friendly and responsive. We went to Costco before arriving to buy food which is cheaper than the local markets. Also, I highly recommend the Kauai Mountain Tubing Adventure. It was a total blast and the guides are excellent. We will definitely be back. I have stayed in Poipu numerous times and this is by far my favorite condo because the beautiful ocean view being right on the water. read more
