I have eaten at the Minnow quite a few times over the past several years. Every time I have been happy with all aspects of food quality, portion size and prompt service. My absolute favorite is the fish basket. I spoke so highly about it the last time I was there I took a friend with me who doesn't like fish and he tried it and loved it. Yep it's that good. My only input for improvement would be with the seat cushions being warn out the bathroom areas needing " updated" or maybe remodeled would be a better term to use. read more

Prices way up and quality way down. Will now not be using this location in the future. To inconsistent in quality and not worth it. This place charges you for tap water!!! We took a number of family members out and ordered dinner and beer. We also had glasses of tap water for every one in our party. When we got the bill we will shocked to see it had increased by $1.00 for every glass of water! There was no warning on the menu. I've never seen any other restaurant in the US that does this! Being a local guy honest reviews can cause trouble but I really like the Wounded Minnow. It is bar... Not old school, not yuppie, just a good hometown bar. The owner, Kyle, is very involved in the business and is attentive to the needs of the community. He says no man buns, skinny jeans or black rim glasses required to be here. You see that in the wide variety of customers. If we had a three 3 1/2 star rating that what I would give it but I always round up when there is great potential. It's a good place to eat, with above average bar food. Their burgers are good and people really like their hand battered chicken strips. Both products are locally sourced and the beef is pasture fed. The owner is also particular about the fish he serves, for instance, using line caught, once frozen Pollack for their fish fry instead of the cheaper Pollack. I really believe he is missing the boat my not advertising the freshness and quality of the food. If I was rating on the food alone I would give it a 5 star Why the lower rating? The staff are all very friendly and a lot of fun but they are very relaxed. The biggest downfall is waiting and the reason for the the lower rating. I love to come here for lunch but I need to plan to be there an hour and a half by the time I order, get my food, and get checked out. It's not uncommon to see tables of people waiting. The beer options are great for a small town bar and the prices are even better. They served mostly bottled so you don't have to worry about stale beer. The cocktails are also good but this is a Yager Bomb bar more than a Mojito bar. Over all The Wounded Minnow is a great place to come and have a good time. By far it is the best bar in Dowagiac and one of the top meals in Dowagiac. read more

Wow. The prices have soared and the quality has dropped. The steak sandwich used to be a Ribeye sandwich that came on a roll with mozzarella cheese. The steak I got was questionable what it was and didn't cover 3/4 of the bun. The fries used to be brew city fries and it was just a dollar more to add them. The sandwich used to come with a pickle spear also and the whole thing was around $12..They are on a reduced menu than normal which I figure because of staffing. But if wasn't even a 1/4 of the normal. The wait time was also way longer than normal 45 plus minutes for our sandwiches. The steak was supposed to be medium but was well done to crusty. Didn't complain because I didn't have an hour to wait. I don't mind paying a higher price if the quality is there. Will be a long while again before I go back. My wife and I had a very poor meal here at the Minnow! Service was slow even though they weren't busy. Portions were small. My wife's salad didn't have all the ingredients mentioned in the menu. My fries were cold. They brought out extra dressing for my wife. It was the wrong dressing but we still got charged extra. I wouldn't be back! In spite of that the bill was over $30 with no alcohol. We have been going to The Wounded minnow for years, sad today will be our last trip tp the minnow. Have you ever been flipped off by the owner AND told "F *** You? That happened tonight on our visit there. After waiting about 35 minutes for our food to arrive, we stopped the owner to mention that we had been waiting for so long, the pitcher of beer was warm, he started blowing up about being short of help, yada yada, and it takes awhile for the pizza. We've had the pizza several times and never took that long. Words were going back and forth between my husband and the owner. The owner dropped the F bomb several times and told us not to come back, he would take care of the bill. This is how you treat long time customers???? AWFUL! The food was edible but that's about it. We ordered nachos which had stale chips and absolutely no flavor. Pizza was disgusting. The crust was soft and oily. The waitress appeared to be in her own little world.. kept forgetting what we ordered. We had to physically get up and find her every time we wanted another round of drinks. And then to top it off my kids were playing pool and one ball fell off the table on accident and he walked over and yelled at my 5 yr old.."KEEP IT ON THE TABLE". My children are very well behaved. The bar dominates the space. There are only a few tables. The food is good for a bar. I had the chicken fries basket. Decent portions and pretty affordable. There are a lot of good options on the menu. The downside is the heavy smoke. You can not go in there without leaving with that dreaded stench on you and your clothes. The bar was filled with regulars even though it was only noon the day after Christmas. There are not a lot of options in Dowagiac for lunch. You are limited in your choices in Dowagiac, so beggars can't be choosy! The food is fairly good but service is almost always slow. It really depends on your waitress. It's almost like they know they have the market cornered so to speak and as a result don't put much effort in improving their service.
