Went on a busy Friday night, and even though the parking lot and tables were full, they seated us quickly. We skipped the appetizers and ordered entrees and drinks. Always a favorite spot and a sure thing for a good quality meal. Not sure if they have a new cook, if they're cheapening their ingredients or if their supplier is cheapening things. Meal was good but we're accustomed to greatness from this restaurant. New Orleans cavatappi pasta has always pushed the limits on spicy but today it fell short. Le sigh Generous portion of walleye as usual but the sauce just came up flat. Added table salt which helps but adds a layer of unrefined flavor teasing the mind and leaving us to wonder why do we have to salt our food today? Sweet potato comes with cinnamon brown sugar butter didn't let the server tell you it's just brown sugar butter. Featured soup was Hungarian mushroom. Not sure what makes it Hungarian and the server didn't know either. ‍ We liked our meal but we didn't LOVE it like we usually do. Perhaps it was just an off day. We'll try again. My fault not making a reservation on Tuesday of the 4th of July week, but after an over hour drive we weren't about to leave (there aren't many other choices for dinner nearby), so we waited for about 50 minutes. Fortunately we sat in a big room with many others and had drinks. Very seasonal and tasty. Once seated we enjoyed our dinners. Took the carrot cake home to enjoy later. On Friday we returned to our favorite restaurant. The Rock! We started with two professionally prepared adult beverages and some deep fried ravioli in a marinara sauce. They were pretty good but the next course was grand which was the French Onion Soup! My wife had pepper crusted ahi tune with rice pilaf and I had a double cut pork chop with a French Onion sauce. Both were great portions with excellent flavor. And as a grand finish our desserts were crème brûlée and Key Lime pie. Our server was a young guy named Billy and he provided excellent service. What a great night with great food with great friends at our favorite restaurant! 5 stars all the way! We arrived early and people were waiting to get in! The atmosphere is busy, friendly and yet you can still carry on a private conversation. read more

90 min wait?? ...didn't see that many people waiting. We arrived around 715pm after driving out of our way to support this local business vs a chain that was much closer and were pretty disappointed. I can't say enough good. In town for a long weekend and already said we'll be coming back just to try something else on the menu. Great service and great food. Good portions and great ambiance. I had the fried chicken. It was refreshing to have real, freshly breaded chicken rather than a pre frozen/ breaded chicken that you may get in some restaurants. The breading could have used a little more seasoning but the crunch and the fact that it was perfectly fried more than made up for it. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

I keep trying to like this place. It's busy all the time because there are no Options. I ordered a salad yesterday and still don't have it but I'm sure I paid for it. Simple spinach salad my hubs ordered a wedge still waiting for that one too. The owner was sitting two stools over too worried about drinking with his staff. I was never asked if I wanted a refill. I still paid overc $100 for what? Actually I was done done but wanted to make sure bid staffff got paid. Thd chips are great though but that's all I got to eat. If you have not tried this gem you need to! We heard about it from a co-worker so we gave it a try. We went in on 11/11 to celebrate my birthday...there was a wait obviously for being a Saturday night but boy was it worth it. We ordered drinks at the bar and sat at the chairs in front of the fireplace as we waited. Very cozy. We were seated in Emilee's section and from the beginning she was great. We tried the scotch eggs and OMG the flavor and how it was all incorporated together...I would not have expected that! I could have just ate those! My husband ordered the ribeye and I had the chicken pot pie. The ribeye was the best steak we have had since moving to Michigan three years ago. It was perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. We were very impressed. The chicken pot pie had the best puff pastry crust and this buttery chicken filling. It was the perfect size and had great flavor! For your birthday you get a free dessert. We are so fortunate to live 10 min away. This is a five star restaurant. Everything is top notch, of course all the food, from the most complex entree in the dining room to the unique pizza on the outside patio. Thank Mike for the great management; he's a pro. First time out to dinner since the restaurant's opened. We thought they would have outdoor seating, we were surprised they didn't I was tempted to leave because I told myself I wouldn't go out to eat unless they had outdoor seating. However they did such a great job spacing the tables apart and wearing masks I totally felt comfortable staying! Everyone who got up from their tables wore masks so overall I felt they did a great job. Now let's talk about the food! AMAZING!!!! This was my first time here. They don't accept reservations. It is first come, first serve. I was here with my family party of seven, therefore, the locals recommended we should arrive early before the massive memorial holiday weekend rush. We arrived around 5:30pm, which we thought would be early enough and the restaurant already had a 45 minute wait so we went to the outside bar area. I started with my favorite Founder's Breakfast draft stout. After about 45 minutes we were seated at our table for seven. I could not order another Founder's Breakfast draft stout, because the outside bar is a separate legal entity. Therefore, I ordered a margarita. As you can see from my pics my special lobster pasta dinner special was good, but, we had to wait a long time for our dinners to be served. The owner realized we waited too long therefore, he came over to apologize and comped our desserts, which we took home, because we had a baby with us and she was tired after a long wait for dinner to be served. If I return here with a large group on a holiday weekend, I recommend arriving earlier than 5:30pm. Our server Charity was apologetic. It was clearly not her problem on this busy holiday weekend. We drove 80 miles round trip to try The Rock to celebrate our Anniversary. Heard many positive reviews and we had been looking forward to trying this restaurant by the lake. We left disappointed, we're sorry to say. We sat near the bar so it was quite noisy. Our waitress, Megann was terrific and the highlight of the visit. We ordered the hot Salmon dip, it didn't have any salmon flavor at all unfortunately but came out hot and bubbly with plenty of toasted bread. We shared a large Hot bacon spinach salad that had a delicious hot bacon dressing. We shared a Walleye dinner that was supposed to be crusted and pan seared. It looked baked and was very bland. For the prices being charged, we were sorely disappointed. Sorry to say, we really wanted to love it! read more

The best dining experience I have had since Covid. We eat out as a "hobby" and the last year has been one disappointment after another. Understanding that restaurants are understaffed and overworked, we try to be more patient and tolerant, but still it's frustrating and disappointing! Tonight we were simply delighted with the friendly service we received upon entering (Colin) and our server, Katrina was accommodating and attentive. My burger was delicious! My partner had the Walleye. All in all, SUPBERB! My only criticism would be the creme brûlée which was more like pudding...not baked like custard. Tasty, but not creme brûlée. read more

Sorry it took us so long to go here. Many friends had told us about it but we never made the trip. Only 20 minutes from us in Paw Paw. I went in for dinner on September 30th. The food was just average and way over priced. It is VERY LOUD I couldn't even hear my thoughts. All the tables are all inches away from each other. I had a decent sized group and had one of the bigger tables by the main entrance. Around 9:30ish a young man walked in and asked for a check that he did not receive. Michael, the owner stomped over to him as if he were a big baby, got in this little boys face and was swearing and spitting on his face. Michael kicked them out after screaming and swearing at three very respectful kids. They did not hesitate to leave and as they were leaving going towards their car Michael ran outside the side door and proceeded to scream and swear at the children. I cannot wait until Memorial Day when their patio opens up and they fire up the wood-fire oven for some of the best pizza around. We stopped by last night for a pizza and to sit outside in the lovely weather. The patio was pretty full. But we snagged a table near the outside railing and had a lovely view of Big Fish Lake. I always order the Chef's Pizza, which changes all the time, but I have never been disappointed. Last night it was a Cheeseburger Pizza. Delicious as always. There is only one size, which is about perfect for two people. They offer about 6 other pizzas and sandwiches outside. Inside they have a much larger menu. I've tried all the pizzas and they are all good. The sandwiches look delicious, but I have never ordered one yet. If I dine indoors, their French Onion Soup is my go-to item. Labor Day will be here before I know it and the patio will close after that holiday. If you are out and about in the Marcellus/Lawton area, be sure to stop by The Rock to check out their outdoor patio and their wood-fire pizzas before Labor Day. read more

Yelp forces you to give 1 star. Customer service here is terrible. Ever since they tried to have multiple concepts the place is going downhill. The Owner takes up space with his cronies sitting at the bar when paying customer have to wait hours to be seated. Food in the lower part clearly not working. It is empty on a Saturday night so people obviously don't want overpriced small plate options and the employees are just standing around because of zero customers.
