My wife and I have been using Central Hospital For Animals in Herrin for many many years, and I…read morehave nothing but great things to say about the staff there. The two people that come to mind immediately are the Vet Tec, Brooke, and Dr. Collin Rhine. Their compassion over the years was spectacular and when we had to put our dog, Rocky, down, they were so supportive. Brooke took a liking to Rocky very early on and would always light up when we brought him in. She cried with my wife when we had to put him down, and to me that's a reflection of who she is, kind and compassionate. Dr. Collin always gave us hope when we needed hope but honesty when it was time to say goodbye. We had no doubt he did everything he could to help our little guy out, by far the best veterinarian our Rocky had the privilege of seeing in his nearly 18 years of life. If you're looking for place to take your animals where they truly care about them, go to Central Hospital For Animals - Herrin.

The appointment was made fairly quickly for the next day (today on a Saturday) because I was told it might be an emergency. After Dr. McNit asked us a series of questions, one being how many cats do we have, she gave a condescending smirk at the fact we have 22 rescues (all spayed or neutered and indoor only), and basically accused the cats of not getting along and maybe that's why he has suddenly started having accidents. What? She has no idea how well behaved they all are, so YES they ALL get along amazingly well because she doesn't know that I train them. Long story short, she gave me information about ferimones I can get through Amazon, and said that she wouldn't be able to do an ultrasound on him to check for urine crystals or stones until next Friday when the tech is there who does that. Now, my thinking is if a pet parent calls about a possible emergency, shouldn't the doctor be prepared? At least recommend another vet? Instead, we had to reschedule for next Friday when the proper tests can be done, and we were charged $80 today for nothing but a consultation. I will be canceling that appointment and getting my fur buddy to a better vet. So disappointed with CHFA. They used to be better than that.

In response to this business. I was asked to revise my post. I simply stated the FACTS…read more The fact of the matter is...... there are strict guidelines regarding food service during this Covid-19 pandemic that were not being followed. I am not discrediting the business by simply stating the facts. Whomever the person taking orders and handling payments on that day did not switch gloves, let alone wash their hands in the process of transitioning from food orders and payments to handling food. There were 4 other workers on the truck whom were handling food. There are no valid excuses to not adhere to proper protocol while handling food. It should not be used as an excuse that no food was actually being touched by hands or the gloves but instead by serving instruments, or that orders were behind. The simple fact that the serving instruments, containers, etc. were being touched after handling orders and payments, with no hand washing or glove changes during transition leads to cross contamination. I should not have to explain this. Obviously we have differing opinions of what is considered sanitary and unsanitary. When you know better, do better. I completely understand how hard it has been for everyone during this pandemic and that is one of the reasons I came out to support. This business has definitely got to do better going forward. Even if we were not in a a pandemic, as food service workers they should know better. They should know the importance of hand washing and what the guidelines are and be putting them into action. If I hadn't pointed these things out, these gross errors would have continued.

The food is not as authentic as you think but the flavor is there. *see accessibility note…read more If you don't have a togo order, be prepared to get overwhelmed on a busy dinner rush. The line goes out the back door and you better hope a table gets flipped in time for you to eat. I got the fish sandwich. The bread and fish had a smoke flavor but needed assistance from the sauce. It would better with some of the cabbage on it. The cabbage also needed more pickling. The house chips were great and had enough flavor. I also tried the "bread pudding". It was tough and more like a french toast and not at all soft. The whipped cream and sour cherries were the best. Accessibility note: This restaurant is not accessible. The "accessibility" entry is clunky and requires a lot of assistance to manage. The back staircase has railing but more than 4 steps. The front entry could be accessible if they lay ramp concrete to remove the small step. Also the Main Street patio seating completely blocks the sidewalk so wheelchair and walker users would have to enter the street. The newest award for the owner made the food hard to live up to, but I want to return.
