I've come here a few times since I was younger so part of my review has nostalgia woven in. It's old school inside, you can play keno and there's a bar. They have classic cocktails and lots of menu items. Plus, they have lunch and dinner plates which is rare now at a chinese restaurant from my experience. I ordered B9 which was good. The general gau chicken was made with chicken tenders which was new for me but I liked it. White rice and spring roll were good. Crab rangoons were yummy. My mom and her dear friend liked their A2 plates. It was also busy on a Saturday night but they only had one dining room open. Is the food outstanding? No. Is it good? Yes. I had a great experience here. The building has a lot of character as well as the dining area. I really like crispy Szechuan beef and I was not disappointed! First post-Covid visit to Wu Loon Ming, sad to see dining room darkened and only seating the the function room. Definite old school joint--as opposed to a jack-of-all-trades Chinese that also does old school-- that has a lived-in look but none of the Polynesian murals or artifacts of some of the more well-known legends. They've got combo plates at both lunch and dinner, so went with my usual strategy of ordering combos and adding some extras. The short-version review: all but one item were above average, but not enough above average to make the place destinationworthy. Fine if you're in the area and craving the old school style. Boneless Spareribs: Solid, slightly above average, good moisture, good glaze content, not really that warm and had some gristle. Available in two sizes and good quantity for a small. Spareribs with Black Bean Sauce: Went with this rarity over chicken wings in black bean sauce, hoping it would somewhat resemble the Chinatown classic. It didn't. Basically leftover, not-that-moist ribs tossed in not-that-thick, not-that-flavorful sauce. This seemed an obvious repurposing of old product without much love shown. Egg Roll: Mid-sized version included on both combos we ordered. Brightly-colored ample red pork among the moist celery and cabbage inside. Not that crisp outside, but pleasingly above average. Pork Strips: Slightly slightly slightly moist. Never been a fan of pork strips for that reason, but hey, it came with one of the combos. And given the low bar on this dish in general, probably above average. Less flavor than the boneless ribs. Sweet and Sour Chicken: Typical low meat-to-batter ratio but not alarmingly so. Nice crispness, many more pieces on the plate than most places. Golden sauce rather than red, and that is actually a nice upgrade. Not much sauce though. A couple pineapple chunks and a couple cherries. Overall, slightly above average. Pork Fried Rice: Good color, good texture, good flavor, good additions. Definitely the item that was the most above average, maybe even flirting with (though short of) elite level. Lobster Sauce: Only had a couple spoonsful from friend's plate and liked what I tried. If I could give it 0 stars, I would. To start, the environment was very dreary. Was disappointing. We started off with waters and Diet Coke. The Coke tasted like it was mixed with dirty dishwater. We ordered crab rangoons and hot and sour soup. The soup was good, the flavor was pretty on-point. However, the crab rangoons tasted purely of cream cheese and absolutely no crab. The rangoons were flat and low in quantity. The duck sauce that came with it tasted purely of sugar. The fried rice was so-so, the rice itself was decent, but the chicken and shrimp were far from tasty. The kung-pao chicken tasted nothing like kung-pao, the only similarity was the peanuts. Couldn't even bring myself to taking home the leftovers. The pad thai smelled off, but the taste was okay. The crispy General Gao's chicken was actually tasty, and the crunch was good. I was seated promptly and it was busy for a Saturday night. I was in the mood for sweet and sour chicken and the rice is my go to. My dad has been bringing me the egg rolls from here since I was a child. It's nice that I can reminisce. I stayed in the dining room off the bar, the bar is usually lively with people. I was craving Chinese food last night, so I decided to treat myself. I ordered delivery from Wu Loon Ming. I used to work in Billerica and we used to go there all the time and it was always good. It's probably been close to twenty years since I've been and I was sooooo disappointed. A small order of beef teriyaki ($10) consisted of four pieces no bigger than a Bic lighter, AND it wasn't even marinated, taste like a Very dry piece of steak. Each piece was literally two bites. I also ordered ordered Singapore style vermicelli which consisted of noodles, onions, pork, shrimp in a curry sauce. I asked for no Shrimp. I received all that along with TONS of green and red peppers. I am allergic to peppers. No where on the menu does it mention peppers for that item - Trash! I also ordered Spring Rolls which were over $8, I can get much better quality elsewhere for $5. There was barely any filling; it was all wrapper, and they had the girth of a #2 pencil. Not only was it the most expensive place but several items were missing from the order. start with a poo poo platter for 2. no chicken wings, no chicken fingers, no crab Rangoon s. the egg rolls were burnt. the steak teriyaki was a joke the stick was the normal size but the steak covered about 1 inch of the stick. I thought maybe a someone just didn't finish it. along with that we got chicken chow mein . Don't the fried egg noodles come with that? All I can say is "Keep Driving!" I am a local who used to frequent this place every Friday and since the Covid days have subsided a bit I decied to return. Yeah stay away if you cvalue your dollar as their prices have skyrocketed and the portion size has shrunk over 65% atleast. Lunch specials are upwards of $15+ and you used to get them for like $10 and have leftovers when now you are not even full. The portion size is horrible and cost too expensive... ridiculous price gouging.....they elimated or shrunk quantities of the sides on dishes from the menu and the portions are tiny. I have been ordering take out from this restaurant for many years and have usually had a positive experience. However this past Friday the food was terrible. I initially sent an email to them directly on Satuday but I guess they could not be bothered to reply Inside the place is dirty and outdated. I can remember when this place was packed! For the food; the egg roll tasted stale. The chicken fingers were not crispy and dry, the steak with peapods was like shoe leather. The egg foo yung was lacking flavor. We have been coming here for years and the last few times we have gotten food it has been disappointing. I thought we would give it one more try tonight. We got take out and I was so looking forward to it and hoping it would be back to the way it was and again I was very disappointed. The food has changed. The rice was mushy, the crab rangoons were falling apart. The egg roll filling tasted burnt or funky not sure what it was. The chicken fingers are not the same more batter or different. The boneless ribs had more fat on them than rib meat. The food used to be wonderful and we used to look forward to getting our Chinese food here. We do not live in the area but, would drive 1/2 hr to go here or get take out. The last time I ate in the restaurant with my co-workers was a disappointment. That was in April. The rug needs to be replaced and chairs and they need to open the other room. It's sad because this place used to be busy and you would have to wait for seats. It was my first time here. The waitress asked if she could take our drink order and I asked what one of the drinks was. She replied "I don't drink so I don't know I'll ask the bartender". She returned to tell me the drink had rum in it. I went to ask Bartender about the drinks myself but didn't really find what I was looking for. We were the first ones in the restaurant at lunchtime but the couple that came in after us was served their drinks and hot tea before us. The meals are served in a timely manner but the waitress never asked us how the food was. She also never offered us tea or water. We paid the bill and left. My brother and I have been on a Chinese 'Dive' Tour for the past year. We pre-selected several local restaurants we felt qualified as 'dives', however we use the term in an endearing fashion. I have a strong admiration for the classic, never-been-updated Chinese restaurants that maintain their vintage charm with brightly colored vinyl booths, wildly-patterned carpets spilling paisley across the floor, and floral accented wallpaper. Wu Loon Ming made our list and certainly lived up to its 'dive' status. I felt some disappointment after much anticipation had stirred while approaching the double glass doors of the front entry. I wanted vinyl and paisley. I hoped for a large aquarium full of gigantic fish or dragons on the walls. Instead we walked into a low key dining area, that did however, show its age circa 1982 with brown and green tones, medium wood trim, faux bamboo accents, and dark floral carpeting. Ferns hung from a huge skylight perched directly over our table. I prefer a dimly lit dining room, especially when out for Chinese, and was not thrilled that our table was completely flooded by natural light. It seems a couple of tables in the rather small and otherwise window-less dining room share this unfortunate positioning so plan accordingly when dining during the day. Unless you are not a fellow vampire. The paper placemats boast the token bald, shirtless, and chubby cartoon representation of Buddha. A subtle reminder of what too many Pu Pu platters will do to you. The background music was interesting as there was some sort of cheesy pop song I struggled to remember the name of, but suddenly realized the classic works of Mozart had taken its place. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. He left us with a basket of awkwardly stacked rolls straight out of a plastic bag with butter packets hiding beneath. We tend to order the classic appetizers while 'dive touring' and decided on a Pu Pu Platter for two, which covered four, fried rice, egg foo young, and an order of chicken fingers. We noticed chicken fingers did not come on the platter, which seemed a bit unusual. The food arrived quickly and of course we were happy to see the platter had the flaming middle. Everything was a bit bland, except for the chicken fingers, which were surprisingly very good. The menu is large with your typical Chinese fare, including special Szechuan and Thai sections, so perhaps there is something for everyone. We ate well, however, as Chinese food always seems to please no matter it's quality. As we ate, the sounds of laughter and loud voices drifted out from the bar across the hall. We saw people sporadically spill from the bar to purchase Keno tickets at the front counter. I'm sure this place is kept alive and well by a dedicated group of regulars. I've granted only two stars today. The 'dive tour' thus far has proven it's possible for a restaurant's dated atmosphere to still retain its classic charm when done correctly. Wu Loon Ming delivers the dated feel minus the charm and gives the impression the restaurant is 'tired'. The food was not decent enough to lure us back again, so this is a one and done. I posted my review I believe on their website with a pic. They are adamant that pic did not come from their restaurant. It did because this was my husband's favorite place so when I took my elderly friend there, we thought it STILL would be that great place. The prices are way too high. Pu pu platter for two is now $30. A small take out is the price of a large. This place is now owned by the next generation. The place is well paid for so why the gauging? It was sad not to see many people there and they had up all in the event room. Six tables had customers? Then you have to go on line after seeing the new menu, no pics, to find out the prices. Ask the waitress and she'll tell you to go on line. After asking her if someone doesn't know how to do that, how would you find out? She frustrated at us ladies, told us after we said what we wanted. Once the combo plates came, that all we thought was worth being there, it was Luke warm accept for the egg roll. Once she came over to see how things were, we told her the food was Luke warm, she said if we ordered the side dishes, they are always hot. Insane response and never offered to heat it up. It's very sad. A once most happening place is no longer. Sorry but it's true. Won't go back. Oh and I forgot to mention the meat in my husband's chicken and broccoli was incredibly small. Years ago my wife and I were regulars at Wu Loon Ming in Billerica. We'd go for the food, great drinks and they even had dance music. We hadn't been there in quite a while so last night in search of something different we decided to go. It was a mistake. I ordered Spareribs and steamed veggies and my wife ordered a Beef And Broccoli combo plate. My meal was fine, but the beef portion in my wife's plate was only maybe 1/2 cup, and it was tough and had gristle. The gravy was bland and twice as much poured on as here should have been. As she normally does, Donna ate the broccoli and a little rice before touching the beef. Once she tried it she wouldn't eat anymore. The waitress shrugged her shoulders and the manager came over to explain that the $14.40 combo plate had the correct sized portion and made no apologies for the small portion, bad taste or tough meat. She did gave us a $15 gift certificate to use next visit but honestly, we aren't going back there. The lighting in the dining room was way too bright, and the echo amplified distracting conversations from other tables. Also, people were smoking right at the entrance when we came in and when we left-yuck! This place used to be fun, they had music and dancing many years ago. Now it's just another run-down relic of the 80's. If you're in the area and want some great traditional Chinese-American food then try the Hong and Kong a few miles down the road instead. read more

I have been to this restaurant many times and the food is usually really good. But the food the last time wasn't as good and the meat didn't have much flavor. The waitress never greeted us and never stopped by to ask how the food was or if we needed anything. When I wanted to get another drink, I couldn't find out waitress and the restaurant wasn't busy. There were only 2 other families in the restaurant. The food we got costed $25 more than when I was there a couple of months ago and it was the same food. When I usually pay $80 for the meal it costed me $95 which was unexpected. If you don't leave the tip that they want you to leave, they chase you down in the parking lot. Will not be going to this restaurant again. I didn't like being told what I have to pay for a tip, especially when the waitress was never around and the food was bland. read more

Went here tonight on Christmas Eve and there were a lot more people there than I thought. Although the food was good, there were some downsides. I ordered a dinner combination plate A14 but got an A15 instead. And because the kitchen was short staffed, one person in my party couldn't get the combination plate she wanted. This would have been a five star review based on the consistency and pure yumminess of the food. Total old school, Chinese-American favorites, but they do it very well. The Ming loses a star for being rundown with no cell signal available at all. Renovations of any kind would make it a more desirable stop for families and couples to visit the restaurant, not just the lounge. Kung Pao chicken, egg rolls, lo mein, chicken fingers and (crispy) General Gao's chicken are all favorites. Everything is always hot and fresh. Service is always fine, nothing memorable though. All in all, it deserves way better reviews than it has. We have been steady customers for many years. Try it for yourself! read more

Placed an order for takeout. This is our third time in a row that we were disappointed. Portion size was small for the price. One person liked the teriyaki beef however the rest of us found it to be tough tasteless and chewy. Extremely small, about the size of my index finger. The rice tasted as though it had been reheated and had a weird smoky flavor. And also came cold. The gold fingers clearly had been cooked earlier and reheated. They were rubbery and burned in some areas. Chow mein had no taste to it. Spare ribs we were not able to be chewed and were too tough. Fortune cookies you would think would be a saving grace at a Chinese restaurant however half of them were stale and not edible. This is not the restaurant we used to remember and has drastically gone downhill in the recent years. Try something else. Pros: friendly when we picked up the food and cooked in a timely manner. I've has too many bad experiences here to give it anything more than 1 star. Even that is pushing it. Won't accept out of state license, military IDs, or passports. Tonight's experience takes the cake though. Our waitress continuously passed food OVER us. She's lucky she didn't drop it...wouldn't have been a good day if fried rice ended up on my lap. Shame on Ming for charging his loyal customers a $2 fee for dining in. We are in our 80's & on a fixed income. The poor waitress is the one that suffers with getting a lesser tip. Man was this a let down. Haven't been here in years and remember the food being real good. There were a couple good things, Lo Mien and Chicken Fingers. Other than that the rice was tasteless, boneless ribs big and fatty, teriyaki beef was tasteless and chewy. Came to the Wu Loon Ming with a friend that loves this place. I however fail to see the attraction of mediocre food, spotty service and a dirty, drab decor. Our waiter had zero comprehension of the English language and required us to point to each of our selection in the menu. For our drink order he actually handed us his ticket and a pen to write down what we wanted ourselves. When he brought out the food order he gave each dish to the wrong person and we had to get another waitress to confirm he had actually brought the correct food. Our friend ordered the Champagne Duck but the entree was mostly sliced chicken with just a few pieces duck. I would have sent it back as chicken is not included in the description of the dish but she was fine with this. My wife got the Orange Beef which was a platter of steamed broccoli with about six pieces of tough, dried out beef. I order the Yu Hsiang Shredded Pork which while the flavors were okay consisted of large slices of pork. When I inquired with the waitress that spoke English rather than our own waiter, she informed me that was the way the kitchen normally served it and they didn't take the time to actually shred the pork in their Shredded Pork dish. Go figure. Also note that the dinner entrees do not come with white rice even though I asked our waiter when placing our dinner order and were told they did. Obviously he did not know and did not understand what I was asking. Don't bother wasting your time and money coming here when there are many better Chinese restaurants that actually serve good food.
