I've been a loyal fan of haley.henry for years and have recommended this spot to countless friends, so I was really excited to finally bring a new coworker here. Unfortunately, this most recent visit didn't live up to the high standards I've come to expect. While a few dishes hit the mark, the majority of our order was a letdown: Tinned Octopus: Surprisingly chewy and lacked seasoning. Mushroom Toast: The texture was rubbery, and the flavor was completely drowned out by an aggressive amount of balsamic. Beets: Had a very overwhelming cumin flavor that threw the dish out of balance. Roast Beef Slider: Served cold and felt a bit uninspired. It's such a cute, intimate space, and I've had so many wonderful nights here in the past, but the execution was just off this time around. I'm hoping it was just an off night, but it was definitely disappointing given how much I usually love this place! read more

I went on a Wednesday evening without a reservation and had no problem getting seated right away for a table of two, which was a great start. The wine selection is excellent and thoughtfully curated -- whites, reds, bubbles, orange wines, and more, so there's truly something for every palate. My friend and I both ordered a red, and it was absolutely perfect. Our server was super friendly and attentive, and she even offered a few samples so we could try before committing to a full glass, which we really appreciated. For food, we shared the hot dog with fried oysters to pair with the wine, and it was surprisingly delicious and a fun, elevated bar bite. Overall, the experience was fantastic -- great wine, great service, and a comfortable atmosphere. Absolutely love it here. A great place to try new wines and enjoy delicious snacks. My sister and I are obsessed with the deviled eggs and we literally had 3 orders. The service is so friendly and accommodating. I am gluten free celiac and have been here a few times and have never ever gotten sick from gluten here. I always get a charcuterie board with a bag of their potato chips, the deviled eggs are a must, house pickles are so tasty, and the summer sautéed corn is so flavorful. Thank you to the staff for putting a birthday candle in my sister's bday order of deviled eggs. We got an absolute kick out of that and it was so thoughtful! visited Haley Henry last Saturday night and was really disappointed, especially after it was recommended to me by a natural wine bar in D.C. The music was so loud that it was difficult to hear or have any kind of conversation. As soon as we walked in, we were told the kitchen was closed, and the overall service felt rushed. I'm a woman exploring the wine world and was excited to learn more about the bar. When I asked a bartender to tell me about their concept, she handed me a postcard for an event in February and told me to use the QR code for more info. Because the music was blaring, she may not have heard my question clearly, but the interaction felt dismissive. I asked to taste two wines and was told those bottles weren't open. I ordered one glass instead, only to be told it was last call. After I paid, I noticed other people being served even though they came in after last call, which was disappointing and confusing. I have overall positive opinions about this wine bar - there's a wide variety of wines, and I did end up finding a handful of reds I enjoyed, but the staff comes off a bit pretentious. When picking a wine, we'd tell our server what types of wine we generally gravitate towards (dry vs sweet vs fruity vs rich, etc.) and every time they came back with a recommendation, it was very off. Honestly, I'd feel guilty tasting too many, where I just lied and said I liked a wine just to stop rejecting the samples lol. There were times I went with the menu description and was happy with my order. One time we got an app that seemed very clever - canned oysters on a potato chip, but they served it with butter. When I asked why the butter, when the potato chip was oily enough, they said because of 'merica. Funny! But also, the butter was not needed. I think it was a homemade butter, so they wanted to showcase their ingredients, but it seemed random. The bartenders offered multiple suggestions after telling them what we liked in wines. We learned that their wine menu changes every day, and they print out their menus every day. My favorite was one of their orange wines that tasted very fresh and was recommended to me. Inside isn't too big, but it was busy on a Friday night with people coming in and out. Haley.Henry is a women-owned and inspired wine bar that has a casual, chic vibe without being pretentious or overly pricey for new and undiscovered wines. I've been here a few times now, but they consistently surprise me with wines and vineyards that I have never heard of or known about. While you can find many of the popular styles and types of wines here, do not expect to see any Mondavi or Josh cellar wines on their menu. They tend to center their offerings around women-owned vineyards or wine makers. Don't allow this to skew your expectations or increase skepticism about their wine selection though, as many of them are better than most wines I've had over the past few decades across the world. It's also an amazing opportunity to learn and chat about wine you may not be familiar with, such as the increasingly popular orange wines or grapes available in only a few regions of the world. HH may be the most interesting and well run wine bar in Boston, which is why they always seem to appear on the James Beard nominations and/or finalist lists in New England and MA. If that's not enough to get you through the door, then I don't know if it is going to be a place you would enjoy or appreciate. However, don't let this deter you if you are intimidated by the world of wine or women-owned bars and wines. They've proven that they can match or exceed any of their male counterparts and even educate you in a more approachable manner than many other places I have been. This wine bar is tiny, with a small bar, some counter seating facing the street, and two four-tops. My experience here was excellent--everything was delicious and service was fantastic. haley.henry focuses on wine and conservas, with nods to hip-hop sprinkled throughout. So obviously I'm going to love a place with menu sections called "bone thugs & charcuterie" and "biggie smalls plates". After speaking with my wine slinger/server, I opted for the wine flight, which they had actually developed. It had interesting wines and I loved each of them. For food, I went for a cheese plate and the hamachi crudo. Both were insanely good and maybe my favorite version of each that I've ever had. Haley.Henry Wine Bar was put on my radar because it was nominated by the James Beard Foundation for its wine program. I went at 4p on a Friday (after work) and it wasn't terribly busy. It's located on a quiet street and has indoor/outdoor seating. I asked my server what wines she recommended, and she brought me three that she was enjoying (a white, rosé, and orange). I ordered a white to go along with my deviled eggs. I appreciated the server's knowledge on both the food and wine menu and was able to provide suggestions on what I was thinking of ordering. The plan had originally been to only stay for a glass of wine and a light app, but was enjoying the vibe, food, and wine that I decided to stay for a very early dinner. I also ordered Muva's beef sliders. With a new wine pairing I ordered the ceviche (that later complimented my desert of the key lime panna cotta and honey combe). Walking in you can feel the similarities between the two but Haley.henry feels more down to earth and less pretentious. As a self proclaimed ignoramus of wine, the single spaced page that constitutes their wine menu is certainly overwhelming but the staff can do an excellent job of pointing out stand out wines. We tried a half bottle of a sparkling red and a couple of "by the glasses" by staff recommendation - all of which were delicious and fit our plates well. The deviled eggs were also very good, but their food menu is definitely a little pricey. Everything was pretty, thoughtfully made and delicious. I came again during Christmas time solo on a shopping day, and enjoyed Weiner Wednesday- I can't remember exactly what my combo was.. but it was scrumptious and the brioche bun was so fresh and the perfect Weiner vehicle. The servers are not only attentive but genuinely friendly, adding to the welcoming atmosphere - we told our server we were celebrating and she gave us glasses of champagne for free! Our server had a tattoo of the roasted oysters so we had to try them, and they didn't disappoint. The real standout though was the sherry mushroom toast - a flavor explosion that might just redefine your love for mushrooms. We asked about how they make it - which involves an entire day of simmering the mushrooms in sherry and apple cider vinegar before pairing them with a garlic aioli and pickled red onions on toast for the final dish. Our bartender was friendly, inquired us about our preferences for wine and gave us sample tasting before pouring us two glasses of wine. My daughter and I stopped into HH for a snack and a couple glasses of wine. The wines were great. For snacks we started with the tinned mackerel in piri piri sauce. I'm a big fan of tinned mackerel and usually have it in EVOO or mediterranean style with olives so I was looking forward to the piri piri sauce. I was a little underwhelmed. In the tin was the mackerel in EVOO with a very small piece of pepper. Piri piri is ~20x hotter than jalapenos on the scoville scale but I couldn't detect much flavor or heat. I came here yesterday as I've been wanting to come here for about a month or so. If you're a local, I can see this being a cool spot, but I wouldn't put it as a destination coming from out of town. Parking is tough and there are a good amount of tourists in the area. I parked in the One Beacon Garage for $12 and walked a few blocks as street parking was non-existent. The wine list confused me as there are a limited amount of wines by the glass on the actual menu, but you can get wines by the glass off the menu if you ask. They only offered two reds on the menu, but the 3 I had were off the menu. The wines were pretty good but nothing that blew my mind. The food here is the star. The Tuna and Fennel tin was tasty and I loved the bread they serve it with. The Salmon Tartare was very spicy and delicious. If you don't like spicy, don't order it. I love spicy so I thought it was great. Last but not least, the Deviled Eggs were great. I'd definitely return if I was already in the area, but I can't say I'd drive 45 minutes into the city to come here as the drive and parking was a little too much for wine and snacks. read more

What a cool spot. We just moved close by and kept hearing raving reviews about this place so we finally went to check it out. Every seat was full (always a good sign) and wine and charcuterie boards were flowing as soon as my husband and I walked in. We were greeted by Haley, the owner, who was so personable and sweet. I had made a much later reservation because I couldn't get one earlier (make one in advance) but Haley contacted us as soon as our table was ready. My husband and I split a half pour bold red wine by recommendation along with the panini of the day, the salmon tartare, and a charcuterie board of spicy salami and two cheeses from Italy. The bread used for the board and panini is fresh and the good stuff, the amazing bread that any board or panini should incorporate. Soft, fresh, and delicious. Both the patio and inside tables seemed pretty busy but they were attentive and helpful with our questions. For food we ordered the tinned needle fish, duck rillette, and 3 cheese plate. I had never tried duck rillette before and wasn't sure what to expect since the Google search made it look kinda ick, but my husband insisted and I'm glad he did since it was delicious! The needle fish tasted like meatier tinned sardines and paired really well with the aioli and ruffles that were provided. I also really enjoyed the fig jam that went with our cheese plate. For drinks we started with the orange wine that they offer by the glass. It was my first experience with an orange wine and it was perfect for the hot summer night. Then we ordered a half bottle of a salty white wine that they recommended to go with our food. I wish I had written down the names of the wines we got because they were both wonderful. The staff is so knowledgeable about wines, but also very welcoming and not at all pretentious. I simply can't use words to describe how good it was. The lamb tartar was also incredible albeit a bit salty due to the capers. My first time trying a tartar and I was not disappointed. We ended the meal with a little charcuterie plate. The mortadella was a treat, and the blue cheese paired with a red wine was my idea of perfection. The blue cheese was to die for.
