We have been to WvRC so many times they are like family. Very compassionate and more affordable than a regular vet if you need to put down your pet. In 11 months we have had to sympathy cards from them. They also are very helpful when you call them to ask a question about a pet that they have taken care of and are on meds. No question is silly. Also we do have a regular veterinary clinic we take our pets to but every time when we have an emergency it is either a weekend or a holiday so WVRC it is. Plus the regular veterinarian does not, have " emergency hours" so sometimes we cannot wait 5-6 hours for them to squeeze us in. Will we use them again? Absolutely if we have to. read more

I'm writing this review after taking time to reflect on all of my experiences at this facility, not just one particular visit. First, I find it very misleading to advertise yourselves as a 24-hour emergency facility when your hours are only 9 AM-9 PM. When you have a pet emergency outside of those hours, you are not actually available. Unfortunately, my experiences with the doctors have also been extremely disappointing. I have repeatedly questioned the level of knowledge, judgment, and capabilities when it comes to determining what can and should be done for my pets. During my most recent visit, I was given no recommendations and was essentially told that everything would be fine. The following morning, my pet ended up being hospitalized at my regular veterinarian for three days. That experience has made me seriously question the assessment and reassurance I was given at your facility. The front desk experience has also been unprofessional. The atmosphere often feels more like a kiddy rave than a professional medical facility, which is completely inappropriate when people are walking in worried, scared, and dealing with an emergency involving a beloved pet. I'm only writing this because I have now had enough experiences to step back and look at the bigger picture. It is a shame because you are the only emergency veterinary facility in town, but being the only option does not excuse poor communication, unprofessionalism, or inadequate care. Going forward, I will be traveling a longer distance to an emergency veterinarian where I feel that my pets' needs--and the concerns of the people who love them--are truly being prioritized. I genuinely hope this facility takes this feedback seriously. People come to an emergency vet because they are trusting you with a member of their family. That trust needs to be earned through competent care, thorough recommendations, professionalism, and compassion--not simply the appearance of being caring. read more

THEY KILLED MY DOG! He ruptured his bladder trying to get into my boat because I had to evacuate. They wanted to charge 10K for the procedure, I couldn't afford it so they agreed to 5K. He came out of surgery and told me he'll be sore tomorrow. He suffered all night long he couldn't pee. I rushed him back in the morning, because urine started coming out of his stitches...there was nothing that could save him, I had to put him down...then they charged me $300 to euthanize him. This places is disgusting! No heart, no empathy and no compassion! Shame on you, if pulling heart strings of pet owners is how you pay your bills!!! read more

If I weren't for WVRC Kenosha and their quick in-house coordination with their surgeon on call at the Waukesha campus who was about to end shift, my beloved Scooby Doo who had been hit by a car would have died. He was THIS CLOSE to death and they saved him. It was costly, but my pet insurance paid for a lot of the bill. They also applied a lot of discounts to my bill which was very nice, especially since I don't make much money. 13-14k procedure ended up being 11-12k. 7k after decent pet insurance. If I could rate this place 0 stars I would. Stay away from WVRC. We had to bring our cat in on a weekend, we just missed our normal vets closing time. This facility was all about the money. They tried pushing us to transfer our cat for an overnight stay at a 24 hour facility $1500+. Then it was "we can monitor him until we close to see if we can even transfer him" ($1200 for 6 hours). In reality, our cat was getting worse while he was there and needed to be euthanized, but they were trying to push one of these other options. They tried to get us to do a $300+ test and when we opted for a couple other tests then they said oh we could do a similar test for $150. This facility was definitely tugging at the heart strings of worried pet owners and everything was a money grab. We ended up having to euthanize our cat with no real answers as to why or what happened. Instead of leaving with our loved pet, we left with no answers and a bill for over $1400 not including all the cremation fees. We felt very pressured the entire time we were there. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Find another emergency vet cause this one only cares about money. read more

When I called for emergency services for my cat they were rude and tried to direct me elsewhere saying it would be a 6 hr wait from the time I got there. After talking to other clinics they assured me that my pet would be seen by the urgency he was facing. They ignored my cat when we came in, no triage until we raised hell. Then after paying $1700 they decided he would be better off an hour and a half away because we would save money. We didn't care about the money just our pet . Instead of immediately taking care of him they let him suffer for a couple hours while transportation was being arranged. If you are paid provide the service help the animal don't try to get out of providing service because I actually don't know they didn't feel like it? When all you care about is the animal (family member) the way we were treated was discouraging , disappointing, and sad. For goodness sakes our pet was in pain and they were paid and still didn't want to provide help... For gods sakes why are you in this business if not to help animals.... read more

I brought my dog Bailey there as an emergency. I knew she was very sick. She had stopped eating and couldn't get comfortable in any position for 2 days. I called first and explained then I went there with Bailey. The vet was very good and compassionate and treated Bailey well. Bailey had cancer next to her heart that was bleeding into her belly. They drained the fluids and made her comfortable. I sat with her and held her paw and looked into her eyes while the vet administered the drugs to euthanize her. It's all so sad. My take away with this place is that they were professional and had good diagnostic equipment. My vet was terrific but I did notice that she was a volunteer so I guess you really don't know who you are going to get. My hats off to you if you can work emergency and deal with all the emotion. I was crying a lot. They provided me with a sturdy corrugated cardboard box made for pets. They didn't rush me and were so nice. The whole experience was not cheap but I believe it was fair. read more

Awful facility .Raced our dog to WVRC at 4 am only to find out they weren't opening until 8 am. 7:50 am we arrived back at the facility, mind you, our dog was screaming in pain by then. Doors were locked, clearly employees were in the building their cars were there. I understand they were probably the techs, not able to treat a sick animal. 8:00 came still no open doors 8:07 still nothing, quite clearly they had no intention of opening up, so we started walking back to our car, when another car pulled in. Waited for her to get out of her car clearly she was stalling, our dog is screaming, she finally opened her door, I asked if she could help, she motioned toward the door and said they open at 8:00, I said it's after 8:00 can you help, she motioned us away with her hand and ignored us. Got back in the car to head for another facility, happened to call Magnolia Springs in Racine, they're located just east of 94 on highway 20 in Racine. Spoke with Heather who was so kind, she told us to bring him in. From that point Brittany met us in the room again so kind and helpful, Dr. Aldrich came in with all the time in the world, surely she had to squeeze us in but you would have never known that. Our little Axel was euthanized, we were so fortunate to get him in at Magnolia Springs, he had a calm peaceful COMPASSIONATE ending to his life. The sad thing is, the person who waved us away, I believe based on the pictures on WVRC's website, is one of the Vets. I'm not sure she's in the right career, absolutely no compassion. read more

Would give zero stars if possible. Was there for 5 hours, They wouldn't give my cat fluids because they said the workers would have to put him under anesthesia, which is ridiculous. Then, as we were getting ready to leave, my cat had horrible diarrhea all over himself in his cardboard take home box that he was in. I asked if they could please give us a new box and transfer him into a new one. They took him in his box into the back, and then came back a few minutes later saying that they left him in the box and that I would have to move him into a new box because the vets were scared of him. They left him sitting in his poop, alone, in a room, and then made me and my dad transfer him into a new box, without any assistance or necessary supplies to clean up the mess. Absolutely terrible. The compassion, kindness and care both my beautiful, elderly cat Oreo and I experienced during our visits to WVRC Racine, were such a gift. Oreo was seen immediately. Each staff member listened to the details of Oreo's symptoms, were able to help me understand what was happening and given her age gave me realistic options for what might be the best options for how I could manage Oreo's prognosis. We had 4 more weeks with Oreo before she passed and were prepared for it. Once we knew she was ready to let go, with the help of WVCR, Oreo was able to be laid to rest. I am grateful for gentle, empathetic care for our sweet Oreo. She was so loved. read more

We were referred here from an emergency clinic in Illinois that could not provide the 24 hour care our dog needed in an emergency situation. While we didn't have the ideal outcome, the care my dog received when he was in distress was enough to ease my mind that everything had been done that could to help him. We appreciated the straightforward way we were supplied with information to decide what to do. I bring my tom cat Ripley up there because premere in greys lake couldnt do an overnight intensive care stay. so I jump in the car an got the kitty up there. waited 3 hours in the middle of the night... get into a waiting room for another hour and in pops Dr death saying i should just put the cat down! her claim was he had zero white blood cells and he is gonna die anyway!. I later got the CBC results from greys lake and his WBC was just under threshold or 5.x something! At the end of the day Ripley is strong, playful and happy and it turns out he had FIP and not FIV and so i am treating him for FIP which 3 vets missed when they saw him! Too long to go into here but we went in around 9pm and the highlights are that they had horrible bedside manner, were argumentative, not communicative and provided misinformation which resulted in an unexpected $155 charge. We were eventually able to communicate with their management who waived the fee, but basically said we weren't welcome back in their clinic. For reference, I work in customer service and their interactions were incredibly unprofessional, but I did not yell or swear or threaten or act in any aggressive manner. Our dog was in so much pain 3 weeks ago, at night of course, WVRC was the only option I was given from every vet I called locally... I was so glad we took him there! They took him back right away, had him diagnosed and a treatment plan in place within 10 min. He had slipped a disc in his back (he's 15 yrs old) couldn't walk and was crying in pain for 4 hours! The medicine they gave him gave him relief right away, and Within a Few days he was doing better and 2 weeks later he was pretty much back to normal! WVRC was very efficient, very knowledgeable, and explained everything in detail so we could understand, even about an ongoing cough our dog has had for years that the. vet said could be treated when our vet said it couldn't! Dr. Fiddy was great! I can't recommend them enough! read more

First off, I was told by the vet that treated my cat, she would let the manager know what happened and they would call me to discuss the matter. She said she would either call me Monday or Tuesday. Haven't heard from anyone yet. I tried calling today, but the receptionist said that the manger wasn't in and could she take a message. I asked her when would she be in, and she said "she didn't know." So, apparently, the staff doesn't know their manager's hours. Never heard of that one before. What a smooth operation. read more

To say our experience at WVRC was awful is an understatement ... it was disastrous. My elderly dog who had a progressive chronic condition had failing health and we had made the decision that if he fell ill again we weren't going to pursue treatment as we had in the past spending thousands of dollars on life saving measures. So on a snowy afternoon we came home to find him panting with a fever of 104 and unable to stand. We called two vets who advertised home euthanasia but neither were available. As a last resort we called WVRC to alert them of our arrival explaining that he would not survive. Despite that they refused my husband and I access when they wheeled him in on a table and made us sit in the lobby while they insisted a vet examine him to 'see if he would be okay.' I tried to explain that he would not be okay but that fell on deaf ears. We did not see our lovely dog again for nearly 2 hours, and when they finally wheeled him in for us to reunite, he had 105 fever with with a heavy blanket over him and evidence where multiple attempts in every limb was made to start an IV. He died on his own within 5 minutes of being in our presence. it was difficult enough to suffer his loss but then to experience this traumatic course of events when pursuing help from those you entrust, made matters that much worse. Five phone messages we're left to the management in hopes of sharing our experience so this would never happen to another family. Nearly three weeks later and no response I finally reached an administrator who only defended her staff and policies. Please do not go there! read more

Absolute trash facility. I brought my dog in with lack of appetite and red/purple abdomen, they checked her vitals, did a basic blood screen and sent me home with giving her a B12 shot and nausea medicine. Took her to a different vet the next day, they were mortified that they didn't take the red/purple abdomen more serious and run more tests. I ended up having to put her down because of an abdominal bleed. Don't send your pet to this chop shop. read more

This is absolutely the best vet/clinic/hospital/ER I've ever been to. Every employee, from the front desk to the nurses to the doctors, is the most caring and talented person I've ever met in a vet clinic. They not only saved my dogs life but they took care of him in the most loving way possible. He was hospitalized with a very bad disease for a number of days and they did EVERYTHING possible to make him better. These people are actual saints. We just went back for a follow up blood test and my dog was actually HAPPY to come back and see everyone. He loved everyone there and so do I. Please, if your animal is in trouble, bring them to this hospital. They are the best in the business hands down. read more

Brought my Yorkie in because of non weight bearing on left front tonight and waited 2 hours to be told it would be an additional 3-4 because two dogs needed stitches and there was only one vet. I was the only other person waiting, imagine if they were busy. Luckily they had two people working the front desk, why, I don't know, but someone there should be trained in time management and expressing that prior to a two hour wait. The only reason this place gets a star is because the site requires it. I brought my dog in there I told them what was wrong with him, that he had this same problem several times before. I told them the meds that he needed but They didn't listen to me and did all kinds of tests and used meds that were unneeded . After they did all that they came out and even told me that I was right that he did have what I said. They decided that he needed to spend the next 24 hours there. When he has had this problem in the past I ALWAYS took him home with me and he was fine the next day. But no, I listened to them and now my dog is dead. When I called them in the morning, I was told he was getting better and that I could some at noon and get him when I got there it was a different vet and suddenly the entire story was changed and he was sicker than before. I'm so furious that I can't type anymore. All I know is they didn't listen to me and I had to put my baby to sleep because of the pain he was in. JUST REMEMBER THIS.... Because a person has a piece of paper with some letters after their name doesn't mean they graduated at the top of their class, someone's name is at the bottom. To take my cat I was charged $4500 in total. WVRC is a predator of those who bring in pets they love, then hit them with an exorbitant fee. Sitting here on Christmas with my pup on my lap thinking of all the things I'm grateful for this year. One Friday afternoon back in October we noticed Mona, our 4 year old French Bulldog was favoring one of her back legs. Later in the evening she stopped using her back legs altogether. We debated waiting until the following morning when we could see our vet. We have all heard how expensive pet emergency room visits can be. Glad we went to this clinic. They were pretty sure she had IVDD and needed surgery, but they would need a CT to know for sure. Here is the overwhelming part: If we wanted the CT we had to commit to surgery and we had to pay upfront. We understood, we did not have insurance for her and it was going to be expensive surgery. We opted for the CT and in the morning they called to let us know she was going into surgery. They were very up front with us with cost and recovery. Letting us know how bad it could be. We prayed for the best but planned for the worst. Her care team was wonderful. Dr. Reed was the surgeon and did amazing work. She came home 2 days after surgery unable to walk without assistance - we were trained to help her walk with a sling. We had to provide lots of post op care, and Drs Kwon and Hopp provided exercises for us to do with Mona to help with recovery. It was crazy - but in the end so very successful. 9 weeks later and Mona is back to running and playing with Bruno. She still limps - especially in the brutal cold. But she no longer drags her foot and is back to her lovable self. I know every outcome can't be positive; we are grateful that ours has been. Thank you so much for the blessings you provided us. Was a little disappointed when my ferret was literally in agony and I begged this location to just put her down, they said they "can't" and that I had to make my poor baby struggle for an hour long car ride to get to the MKE location.. I get there are "protocols" as I've worked at vets and shelters and gone to lots of vet camps, it doesn't take all that to know that they are capable to help me.. I just wish they would make exceptions like real human-beings sometimes when it's REALLY needed. I'd they're so worried about getting in "trouble", there are contracts you can have owners sign. I had to bring A couple animals here, which they were WONDERFUL with, but i was incredibly disappointed in them when they cared more about "protecting" themselves than actually Caring for a patient who was suffering AND I'm a regular at this clinic, and I refer people here as well. But they need to think about their protocols and they need to maybe make some changes that prioritize the comfort and well-being of animals, because that's their job. Again, I KNOW how this stuff works, I know there's a difference between a animal hospital and a small animal/exotic hospital, but when it comes to someone's beloved pet/family member who is dying anyways, they need to reassess their policy because they COULD have helped me, but instead of doing anything they could for my baby girl, they sent me an hour away to another location where I had to wait in line as it was, so my girl was miserable for HOURS. Granted,I cherished the short time I had left with her, but I have so much guilt not being able to give her peace and comfort HOURS sooner than when she received that care.. Other than that, I love the staff and I appreciate whqy they've done for me and my animals so far.. just wish there would be SOME clinic around here that didn't charge $500-$600 to put your loved one to sleep. I think pet owners are in such a rough state at this point and they'll do anything for their little fur babies, it feels like they take advantage of the vulnerability of the anxious pet owners. Find a way to charge less for us to get our babies ashes back.. most people can't afford that and asking for that when you're literally putting my pet to sleep, seems so wrong. Brought my dog in after collapsing on a Saturday and regular vet couldn't get her in. Arrived at WVRC And they Took my dog in back right away due to labored breathing. a tech briefly talked to us soon afterwards. We then waited for the vet to examine her. 1-2 hrs later the receptionist asked us for $1200 to run tests and I never even spoke to a vet nor had the vet examined my dog yet. They said it isn't normally like this but other critical cases came in too and there was only one vet. so if I agreed to these tests after a vet tech said they were needed for answers so they can start trying to figure out what was wrong. When I finally talked to the vet 4 hrs later you could see her reading the report right there in front of me. There are so many other upsetting details but basically I put my dog through 5 hrs of being scared, spent $1600 ($400 add'l for more tests and, as it turns out, unnecessary meds filled) and got no answers. My regular vet was surprised by all the tests. It pains me that I put my dog through that when she was suffering. She passed away on Monday. read more

if you decide to go here, bring food and possibly a sleeping bag because they are slow. we were there for five hours with my seriously ill cat, and they kept telling me it would be more hours to wait so I called my primary vet who originally didn't have an opening and they said to bring my cat there and they would make an opening and take her so she wouldn't die waiting at this place. all those hours my cat was thirsty and we had to go find a plastic cup and cut it down to size so my cat could have a drink. they sure take dogs in fast though, they don't seem to have to wait at all. January 13, 2023: I called WVRC and asked if I could bring my senior dog in for labored breathing. They told me they were taking pets on a case by case basis. They were able to hear my dog's breathing over the phone and told me to bring him him. We were there within 15 minutes and they had a tech speak with me immediately and took my dog back to get him on oxygen and to do any exam. 30 minutes later I was taken to an exam room and met with Dr. Claire Afflerbach. She was extremely kind and explained her suggested course of tests to better understand what was going on with my dog. I didn't feel pressured to spend money and gave permission to get chest xrays. When Dr. Claire Afflerbach came back she let me know my dog was in a critical state and how fast his breathing had deteriorated within an hour. She was clear that any treatment might not yield any results and showed me on the xray that he may have had cancer in addition to fluid in his lungs. I knew I had to say goodbye so he wouldn't suffer. Considering his age, and health issues the 2-1/2 years previous, I knew this was the best decision for my dog. The entire team and veterinarian were compassionate and supportive. I wasn't rushed to say goodbye. I was very happy with everyone there despite the outcome. read more

They told me I was not an emergency and there was only 2 doctors available so i would have to wait longer. After over a hour in the waiting room . Doctor finally came in didn't listen to my concern. Disregarded what I told her . Brushed me off with only spending 3 minutes with me. Then they made us wait another hour. Before finally coming back having me pay first. Then giving me discharge papers. Didn't even state my concern on the discharge papers and advised me to follow up with my primary veterinarian clinic. Complete waste of time and money. I Do Not Recommend this place unless your animal is in critical condition. Then maybe? Save your money, just go to a regular veterinarian clinic. As they will advice you to do the same 0 stars! This is the second bad experience I had at this location, I brought my dog in at 10:30 didn't know why she was bleeding on her tummy, it turned out to be a tumor however the vet didn't tell me it rotting just wrapped her up and sent me home with antibiotics and pain meds. If I knew she was bad as she was I would have put her down that day. They offered me a cancer screening and said I should have result on the Wednesday, I called wed and checked before I was getting her in to her normal vet - it is now 10 days later and I still never received my result of a test I paid to have done. I ended up putting my girl down on that Wednesday when my vet seen her, she explained how rotten it was and that the ER vet must not have shaved her at all like they told me because her hair was all matted and skin was burned from draining and being wrapped up. My girl was still in pain even after the pain meds were given. I am so angry my poor girl suffered the way she did because WVRC Vet wasn't honest with me. I will never go back to them and I feel like this is the 2nd time they scammed me for more money and didn't do the wright thing that would be best for the animal. Sham on them. I am hoping they will reimbursement me the Cancer screening test they done since they never called me with results. because when I called them they told me they will call me once they receive them. and Its been 10 days I have not heard back.
