Sadly I had to take my geriatric cat in for what I thought was renal failure, which didnt make sense as I just had bloodwork done on him 2 weeks ago, which showed he didnt have any kidney issues. Antibiotics seemed to have cleared symptoms of his URI but he was still noticeably going downhill... these guys jumped into action and it was heartening to see an episode of Grey's Anatomy... Animal Hospital, even in this sad occasion. He was paralyzed and could just meow pitifully as it seemed he was cause pain by movement. Macchiatto's ultrasound showed a liver mass and fluid, likely cancer and considering his health conditions and quality of health... the decision, based on survival likelihood and current quality of life, was humane euthanasia. Sedative and then chemical agent while in an incubation pod for warmth with an IV that also carried in these drugs... much better than at a vet where past cats I have held that passed with less peace. It was a good experience for a bad situation and I appreciated the kindness and sympathetic care for Macchi in his last moments.

    Our beloved Riley

I really wish I didn't have a reason to write this review. Seriously, I'd rather have my dog back in my family's life and be blissfully ignorant about VEG and the caring, professional, skilled and empathetic team there. Our dog, Riley was getting old, and we had worked with our local vet to help her painful joints, her sensitive stomach, but when she developed something different, the vet suspected congenital heart failure. It could be managed, through medication and oversight, but on Sunday morning she was so much worse. Her sides were bloated. We called VEG, and they told us to come immediately - they would take her right away. We got there and the team saw us coming. They opened the doors, took us immediately to a table and performed an assessment. The fluid was all over, pressing her lungs and her heart. She only had hours. They put her in an oxygen crate, and before I could blink, whipped two chairs into place so we could sit "with" her. They flew back with tissues (for obvious reasons) and water. They told us the likely progression and how little time we really had. They would keep her going until the kids could arrive to say goodbye. They gave us a room to stay with her. They got all paperwork out of the way, so when everything was over we wouldn't have to speak to anyone. They gave us all the space we needed. Sarah saw the most vulnerable was my daughter and consoled her, asking if she wanted clipped lockets of hair and how much. It was all a blur. I can't remember all the names, just their kindness and caring. The doctor took us through the steps, explaining she would fall asleep before her heart was stopped. She stayed with us to the end, and then again gave us time and space to grieve. Honestly, I hope I never see them again. I hope you don't either, dear reader. But if your pet, or my other furry kid, Cooper, needs to see an ER Vet I wouldn't go anywhere else. I've been to several others in the past, and they cannot compare. The staff knew what they were doing and swung quickly into action, while maintaining empathy and kindness the whole time. I really, really hope I never see you again, but I would never go anywhere else.

This time they were much more confident with helping my rabbit and definitely got him back on track, thank God, because it was Sat night and his vet didn't open until Monday. I'm so grateful ! I can't tell you how much of a comfort it is to have a place that's open 24 hours for pet emergencies. Bless you! Rebecca and Dr. Herzhoff were great; Rebecca was so caring and just was a giant relief to calm me down when I was so panicked. She's an absolute asset to your business and obviously loves her job. Dr. Herzhoff was super kind and careful towards my rabbit and did a great job explaining everything. She was also very kind and helpful over the phone when I called back with questions. I'm so grateful these two were there when I arrived with my bunny. They're an absolute blessing.

Wow. Just wow. From…read morethe first phone call to when I left their facility, because our fosters rescue refused service, the team was amazing. I called extremely concerned that our 5 week old foster was not well and explained that the rescue was closed (it was 12 am) but the puppy seemed to be rapidly deteriorating health wise. Given we have no medical say over a foster, I was panicked. They assured me that we would figure it out together and to get there as soon as possible, ending the call with "please drive safe", showing their true compassion. They greeted us at the door and immediately got us in front of Dr Hayward (who was so kind, caring and a sincere person). They checked his vitals and rushed him into an oxygen chamber since his breathing was so poor. I sat panicked trying to find a way to connect with the rescue. Even after finding their information, I was there for over two hours and although I was scared, Ashley didn't let me feel alone in the situation. She sat with me and chatted to help calm me. It was like I was talking to a close friend but she was just a deeply genuine animal lover like I am, so we connected. You can tell everyone there cares so deeply for the loved ones you bring in. They helped me to advocate for the puppy to the rescue when they denied service/ they told me to take him home. They were able to relay the seriousness of the situation to a person who seemed like they were in over their heads at the rescue. They transferred our information and condition to the Buffalo Grove Veg ER so that he could remain on oxygen (instead of going home with me) from 3 am to the time the rescue opened at 630 am. Unfortunately, after so much hard work and attention, the rescue decided to euthanize that sweet little 5 week old puppy but I know his last few hours would have been so much more miserable without the team at VEG ER and VEG Buffalo grove (the rescues partner location- also phenomenal but that review won't come until all of the puppies are healthy, safe and adopted). I never want anyone to have a medical emergency for their pet but if you do, please trust their team to help you. Sorry this was so long but I truly hope the team working on the night of 8/16 // morning of 8/17 see this and know my immense gratitude. A special thank you to Dr Hayward and Ashley.

Contacted a few other nonemergency vet options and was not able to get through but reached out to VEG Saturday afternoon. Very helpful on the first phone call, technician was compassionate and put me through to the an Dr on staff and we discussed options. Was sent an easy link to fill out ahead of coming and when we finally did come through the door, the staff was professional, compassionate and understanding. Options were provided at every step with no judgment or pressure. The room we were provided was serene and peaceful. We were allowed plenty of time to process at each step, offered water and accommodations of being present or not for the actual transition. No one wants to ever think of this process for their family member but this staff and facility were incredible during our loss. Highly recommend if you have the unfortunate situation as well.

But I found VEG on google initially and saw that it was close to home. From the moment I called to make sure they could see me and my pup, they were incredibly helpful and kind. I arrived and once I pulled up they had a team out to the front to help my and my pup. They instantly got to work on my dog and I felt their concern and genuine support. I unfortunately did not receive the news I wanted and had to put my dear pup to sleep. The team here were incredibly supportive and caring once I decided to make my pup comfort. They had a beautiful, cozy room for us to say our goodbyes and helped coordinate all things after. I can't speak more highly of this place and everyone here. I would give this place a million stars if I could. Again, I would highly recommend the this location for any and all emergencies.
