Had a health issue arise and came to emergency department. I felt I was treated w/ respect and in a timely manner.

I was recovering from lumbar surgery and still coming off anesthesia so I wasn't completely alert but I heard a nurse from the fourth floor call me a hate slur regarding my sexual orientation. She called me a dyke. Yes, a nurse said that. She came into my room just to stir up trouble instead of caring for me as a nurse. Then the rest of the nurses showed up at my room and several security guards. So much drama. I felt like I was in a cat fight in the fifth grade instead of trying to recover from surgery. I was having a very difficult time trying to figure things out because I wasn't fully awake yet from anesthesia and I couldn't figure out where I was. I told her just because I have short hair that doesn't make me gay. I was treated like crap. Some of the nurses on the fourth floor should be terminated. I left the hospital at 11:00 pm walking in the pouring rain just to go to a friends house where I could get better care. Some of the nurses on the fourth floor are not experienced to handle patients coming from surgery and still under the effects of anesthesia. The nurses caused a huge panic dragging several security guards into my room for nothing. The nursing supervisor Ashley? was also rude to my sister when she called the nurses desk because the phone in my room didn't work. The nursing supervisor, Ashley told my sister over phone that I was back in my room having a crying fit thats because of the nurses and security guards all jammed in my room causing confusion. Thats why I left the hospital crying. Ashley, the nursing supervisor was very rude to my sister. Ashley also said to me, make sure you go home and put what happened here on Facebook. I told her I'm not as immature as her. If I was having a crying fit then something was obviously wrong. Why didn't they just send one nurse to my room figure out what was wrong instead of sending many nurses and many security guards to my room to cause more confusion. Thats why I left the hospital. I didn't remember having surgery and being admitted so instead of them trying to calmly diffuse the situation they created a drama. NO POST OP SKILLS. Besides the fact that the room was filthy my recovery needs weren't being met. I was bullied by immature group of nurses. This is abuse as far as I'm concerned. One nurse said if you leave the hospital you'll get an infection and I replied, no, if I stay at this hospital I'll get an infection or even get sick. I didn't need 10 people in my room. I was trying to put my clothes on and the male security guards insisted on staying and watching. They wouldn't leave my room. There was a nurse named Randall S that walked into my room and saw me taking everything out of my coat pockets and laying it on the bed. I only took a ziplock bag with a credit card, medical cards chap stick and four cigarettes. Everything was still in the ziplock bag laying on my bed. I was looking for my chapstick and he tells everyone I was smoking in the room. Lies lies lies. I've never smoked inside the hospital before. I took them for my ride home after I was discharged. I never smoked in my own house either and I live alone. How many people go to the hospital for appointments and have cigarettes in their coat or purse ? Nearly everyone that smokes. That doesn't mean they're going to smoke in the hospital. Can't trust anything these nurses on the fourth floor say. They are like a clique and would lie for each other. Childish, immature and unprofessional. Most of the nurses had their identification badges turned around so I couldn't get their names and I was told they aren't allowed to do that. Make sure you get names of bad nurses so you can turn in a report to the Nurses Board of Review. rnboard@wv.gov Don't bother calling the patient advocate because her job is to protect the hospital and staff NOT the patient. I've read their notes on mychart. Nothing but contradictions. First they say I was back in my room having a crying fit then they said I was being hostile. Then they say I left against medical advice then they said they had to chaperone me off the property. Inconsistencies prove nothing but lies. They're lucky nothing happened to me. I'm still APPALLED this hospital has people like this working for them. No wonder why the hospital has gone downhill so much. This hospital treated my father badly when he was hospitalized in 2023 and they sent him home and he died right after they sent him home. I think it was the same nurse. Some of the things this hospital does should be criminal. Be careful about having surgeries at this hospital. Nearly everyone I know that had surgery here ends up with a urinary tract infection because of the catheter. Someone needs to figure that one out. You are supposed to sign a paper for that beforehand. I probably will be canceled everything. I will never have a procedure or surgery again at this hospital unless it's outpatient! I'd rather spend a night in hell than a night at WVU Wheeling Hospital! read more

Ok, updating to say: the ER somehow missed 5 obvious metastatic lesions on my liver. Like...some were over an inch already. Liver was called "unremarkable". Oh, and one in my lung, also labelled "unremarkable". How do you release a 60 year old having 12/10 pains with prescriptions for IBS and laxatives even after she begs for a review because "No!! you had to have missed something!" then come back and tell her, "I looked myself and there was constipation". Yep! There WAS. And with just FIVE MORE SECONDS YOU WOULD HAVE SEEN MY CANCER. I spent weeks in agony, almost lost my job, considered suicide. JUST DO THE BASICS OR SHUT THE HOSPITAL DOWN IF YOU CANT MANAGE THIS. And guess what? You expect me to pay this bill??? read more

I would give a negative star rating if I could and this is from someone who would have said this hospital was the best we had many years ago. But their changes have shown their favor for lack of care, organization, compassion and quality of the services they provide. It's extremely disappointing to see how far they've fallen. None of my family will be returning and I'll be all the happier for it. TLDR: waiting for a room for 10hrs+ in basically a ER waiting room (with IV line in vein), blood taken in ER waiting room and setting the full syringes of blood on the side tables in the ER waiting room. No updates of condition aside from occasional 'additions' for over 25hrs until they announced discharge. This was only the tip of the iceberg. read more

An in law was diagnosed with a 80% widow maker heart blockage and nee!ding a valve repaired. They discharged him! He died! Get out of town for any similar events for you or your family. read more

Brought In my husband for tingling feeling in his chest. He was able to walk in the Emergency room as I parked the car. As I approached the door with my mask on, I was stopped. Was told to stand on the sidewalk or go sit in my car, was not allowed to enter, and they took my cell number if anything happened. 4 hours go by and finally get a text from my husband. He had been inside waiting to be seen all that time. Next day, he's home now and I have yet to hear from them letting me know what was happening. Our family Doctor recommends a Doctor out at wheeling hospital,but he wanted him to wait until after his tests were done to see doctor so he could take tests results to first appointment.Let me tell you the staff was very rude and mean about the appointment so I changed my tone to match hers and she hung up on me.That is no way for Doctors office to act towards anyone totally uncalled for.I would not recommend that Doctor to anyone. read more

To whom it may concern at Wheeling Hospital, I visited your hospital at roughly 730 am for a persistent shooting/stabbing pain caused by a fall and trauma to my tailbone region on Sunday 5/26. I am very dissatisfied to how I was treated especially at the cost to care ratio. I was given 2 sets of x-rays and 1 cat scan. Ball park in the thousands if I have a deductible to meet, yes? Well, I do have a deductible to meet in fact. I spent nearly 3 and a half hours and the ER was essentially dead. I understand the amount of drug addicts in the area probably skews the perception of a patient who is claiming terrible stabbing pain or in my case when it's not a f------ claim. After 3 sets of expensive tests the PHYSICIANS ASSISTANT on duty told me essentially there is nothing wrong with me. While I appreciate the confirmation it was nothing major. The reality is I was and am still suffering greatly. Over that 3.5 hours the interaction in my room between nurses and the Practitioner was probably a total of 5 minutes and that includes finishing filling out my personal information sheet. She gave she offered me a shot for inflammation which I happily excepted before my last x-ray. I came back into my room which has a stain on the linen of the bed I was near. She said "Yep all negative, I'm going to discharge you" I said what about that shot for this pain. Then she never returned, but a RN who was polite and gave me said shot and a ibuprofen prescription. He and her both told me "Well, if it keeps bothering you just come back" No steroids no questions from the NON DOCTOR about anything other than what the pain felt like. I left your hospital limping and wincing in pain and a new debt of probably TWO-THOUSAND DOLLARS. Would a person paying out of pocket spend TWO-THOUSAND dollars phishing for pain meds? I had a bilateral leg u.s and the tech was extremely rude. She did not make me feel at home at all. Her attitude and bedside manor were very unprofessional. When I asked to see my images she asked me why and told me sbe didnt understand why I wanted to see them. For one I had other testing done that day and was already feeling stressed out. I have arthritis in my back along with spinal cervical stenosis. I went to Wheeling WVU hospital er and had to be taken in in a wheel chair my lower back had stabbing pain and I could not stand up. as I sat in waiting room the lady beside me said she had been there 3.5 hours and was sitting in the waiting room with a IV in her arm. Out came a dr with 2 training nurses. they was seeing patients in the waiting room. Everyone heard their conversations. then one guy was puking. another guy started puking. I had to leave. Couldnt believe what I just seen. So went to Reynolds they was packed as usual. Went to mu Dr. He couldnt see me without a appointment. Set me up with a appointment for physical therapy. Cant believe nothing for the pain. Had to just deal with it till it eased up. I was giong to get my surgery done at Wheeling hospital but thats deffinantly not gona happen. also looking for new dr thats not afraid to give pain meds to those that need it. Only gave a one star because I had to to post review. WVU sucks. Also got a letter today all my personal information was stolen. How nice. read more

This hospital is the absolute worst hospital that anybody could go to. I have an issue with my gallbladder and this nurse practitioner came up to me and flat out said it's my acid reflex. I just went yesterday and they said that if I have more issues with my gallbladder to come back in. Well I came back in and they were so idiotic that it was absolutely pathetic. What makes it worse is that I had to sit there for 3 hours in severe pain and nobody cares. I should have just gone to Pittsburgh in the first place and not have wasted my time here. read more

Zero rating! This hospital maybe clean but the nurses are not nice at all. I have a family member there now and the care she has been given is not well. She's not able to speak right now and she's needing assistance from another person, they are not coming in to get her up and moved around in bed from preventing bed sores. Have to ask when they are going to get her up and moved into a chair. When asking help from the nurses at the station they are rude. There is one nurse that is nice and helps and knows she is very busy. But asking other nurses that are not her nurse and getting a response "well I'm not her nurse" well that's not the right response you should reply. Your a nurse and should help. Why you have gone into this profession to help people. I cannot wait for my grandmother to get better and to get out of this hospital and to be back home at a closer facility. read more

I had the absolute worst surgical experience. Had to be there over 2 hours early, they put in your IV, then you lay there for 2 hours with no attention whatsoever. I wasn't permitted to use the restroom without assistance because they wanted to walk with you to carry the IV bag, which is all good until it takes over an hour to get someone's attention to take you. Then recovery. Laid there until someone had time to take out my IV and disconnect the monitors, which took well over an hour. Got my bill and the recovery room charge was only $150 shy of the operating room charge!!! Only good experience I had was my surgeon, who was excellent! read more

They get a star for being useful for simple things like a stray lab test or x-ray that can't be screwed up badly. Otherwise, drive the extra 45-60 minutes to seek real healthcare in Pittsburgh. I've had the misfortune of getting taken here for an emergency. It's a real crap shoot as to whether you can get (a) an approximately correct diagnosis and (b) the correct treatment. The physical facility reveals the interest lays in squeezing cash out rather than upkeep and improvement. I used a restroom that could best be described as benignly neglected (somewhat dirty and with floors in bad need of wax). Overall, Wheeling Hospital represents the miserable state of a healthcare facility that used to be very good but which is now in a money focused state of rapid decline. read more

WORST HOSPITAL AND HOSPITALITY EVER!! First, I brought my elderly mother in after she had fallen and apperently had a broke foot well it turned out she hurt the other leg trying to walk after she fell the first time and fell again. 2 hurt legs made it so she couldn't walk, she already has a hard time walking cuz of deformed foot. Well the nurse Jess at wheeling hospital came to er to cate for my mother, she first kicked me out of the room and start yelling at my mother that if she needed to go to bathroom she had to stand. that nurse is obviousely stupid. when she came out of the room I told her she should b more compassionate to patients and she said we interuppted her report on another patient so she was mad then she had security kick me out of the hospital. 3 hours later my mother was discharge not being able to stand or walk and the cut on one of her feet that I had told the nurse about was not cleaned or dressed. I ask my mother y is this not taken care of and she told me 2 different nurses said there was no cut. obviousely ther was!! My sister worked for Wheeling Hospital for 32 years and died Christmas day. As her beneficiary to care for her 2 teenage children I went to get her final paycheck. In their infinate wisdom they made the check out to Beneficiary of with her name and my name nowhere on the check. My bank will not cash a check that does not have my name on it. I am just trying to pay the rent for the kids, keep the lights and heat on and buy them some food. Wheeling Hospitals RULES do not click with the banks RULES so I have a check that she WORKED FOR that I can wipe my butt on. Why do people go OUT OF THEIR way to make life difficult. She was forced to have numerous experimental vaccines to keep her job. So many vaccinated people dying. I have lost 3 of them in 5 months. If I have to pay a lawyer to get her paycheck cashed I will do everything in my power to sue WVU for the forced experimental vaccines. Nuremberg code makes that illegal. read more

My mother's doctor sent her to Wheeling Hospital because of a possible stroke. The bitch at the ER desk said they take patients according to how serious it is. I asked her just how serious she thinks a stroke might be? Instead of accomodating, she screamed because my mother should have been transported by ambulance instead of letting a family member drive. I told her that I understood there was a mere 6 hour window for the diagnosis of a stroke and it had already been 5 1/2... She said my mother would be next. They took two more people. Another lady in the waiting room said the ER doctor had cost her dad his life, lost his license and been fired by said hospital 3 times and was always reinstated. Stopped to see a friend of mine that had surgery. The Information desk said he was not in the hospital. Stopped by the Switchboard Operator and they said he was not in the hospital. When I called the hospital the Switchboard Operator connected me to his room. Someone needs to have a talk with their employees on how to do there jobs! Excellent hospital!! I originally went to OVMC where they diagnosed me with me something completely wrong, came to Wheeling Hospital ER and they diagnosed me correctly. I was admitted within the hour and spent three nights there and the nurses and most doctors were excellent. Only had a bad encounter with a doctor once, and when I spoke to a nurse about it she took care of it immediately. read more

This may be the poorest run medical facility in the country, in my opinion. My family is new to the area and in order for my infant son to be seen by a pediatrician, we had to drive over an hour to the hospital to fill out their "new patient paperwork". The doctor than reviews this paperwork, or application, and decides whether or not he will accept you as a patient. After a week, my sons application was accepted and we were able to schedule him for a MONTH later. We were forced to wait a week to find out they have no openings. Fortunately, we have great health coverage, but if you don't there is no point wasting your time because you wont be accepted by any of the physicians as a new patient. This hospital has one priority, to make money. Do yourself a favor and drive up to Pittsburgh, Columbus, or even Cleveland and get yourself seen by a GOOD physician in a GOOD facility that actually CARES about their patients. My husband was diagnosed with cancer at the beginning of winter last year, and since we didn't know what the weather would be like we selected Wheeling Hospital. We are very glad we did. The staff was absolutely wonderful. The doctors were compasionate but honest in everything they did. They explained what was going on, the different options and their recommendations for treatment. Their local staff in patient registration billing was great in working with us and letting us know about what insurance paid, and what the hospital was doing to help get the bills processed with the insurance company. The Oncologist's office, (in the Schiffler Cancer Center}, after all his treatments and he was cleared of cancer, has called once a week to make sure he isn't having any complications or symptoms any more. I love this hospital and would not go to any other one if I had a choice. Di H. read more
