I prefer mom and pop shops to chain stores. Sometimes it's a bit busy in there, but you do get very personalized attention. I took 2 lamps to be repaired there and they charged me only $20 apiece. I also took a chandelier to have some work done and get cleaned up, and they did a beautiful job at a very fair price. It was far less than I expected. I needed a light for a powder room and was trying to decide on a couple. They took down the display models, wired them so I could plug them into an outlet, and let me take them home to check them out in my bathroom. They didn't charge me anything to do so! It's a good thing I did take them home, because the one I thought I preferred would nit work out there. So it was good I had the back up. That one also happened to be on sale, and I got a much better price than I expected. I bought a ceiling fan as well. Upon installing it, the motor wasn't working properly. The store ordered another to replace it. Again, they were very helpful and offered to replace it immediately.

He was booked out for quite awhile but he set a time range around of 2-3 months when he'd be able to start the repair and restoration of our family heirloom mid century floor lamp. Once a date was set, we dropped off the lamp at his shop, got a more specific price range, set a "top" price which not to go over, and left the lamp. It took maybe a month or so before it was ready for pickup. We couldn't get over how he re wired, completely refurbished, and brought our lamp back to life! It's now gorgeous and functional. :)

After dropping off, no one reached out to discuss options. After reaching out multiple times I was told John would get back to me. Crickets. Then I was told there was a check for $225 waiting for me. I never agreed to a buyout, but apparently that's what they decided. I continually had to request updates. In the end my Waterford Lamp was valued at $90, though listed on the auction site at $575. All the items I brought in were valued at a fraction of what they listed. I expected a 60/40 split. Nope. John couldn't take time out of his busy schedule to professionally present my options.The communication was so poor, I had to continually send emails asking for status as well as text to John that were basically dismissed. Worst business ever! I still have no updates or calls from them.
