The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is fun! They have live music, food trucks, a grape stomping and Lucille Ball look-a-like contest, and vendors. The mead's are real good and they have other drink options available. It's a small festival but worth going!

The winery has a large property with plenty of space to explore, including what appears to be a small farm with chickens and pigs. On a warm day, the outdoor seating areas with games would likely make for a lovely experience. However, when it came to the wine tasting, the samples were served in plastic cups, which some may actually prefer. But for us, it took away from the overall experience. And most importantly, the wines themselves just didn't impress our palates. We tried a variety of their offerings, but nothing really stood out or compelled us to purchase a bottle to take home. It's a shame, because the setting is really quite nice. But at the end of the day, the wine is the most important factor, and this winery missed the mark for us on that front. If you're in the area and want to spend some time outdoors in a charming environment, it could still be worth a visit. But I wouldn't go out of your way, especially if you're a serious wine enthusiast.

We pre paid a hefty fee prior to the trip and expected a stress and worry free time. That is not what happened... They planned a trip to Irvin vineyard for us to wine taste, we showed up and had no idea what to do. We waited for TWO hours for the tasting. We pre paid for dinner as well. We went to the restaurant and they had NO IDEA what we were talking about, not even the manager of the restaurant. My friend had to call this "party planner" and she showed up at dinner! sat at the end of the table and ordered a glass of wine and takeout food. It was the most uncomfortable experience ever. She then proceeded to pay for our bill with a wad of cash her "boss" dropped off in his PAJAMAS. Disorganized and unprofessional.

Use your common sense. We were given the example of a "customer" being quoted $17,000 for a fancy cruise, but these guys were able to get it for $10,000 and change. I did the math, and the $10,000 they quoted, plus the $6995 for the membership (payaple the day you hear their spiel BTW), plus the $399 "doc fee," plus the $199 dues, and guess what that cruise costs? Yep, $17,000+. Maybe you'll use them for another trip, and that'd drop the overall expense, but you'd have to travel a LOT to offset that $6995. Don't even waste your time with these guys. Yes, they'll give you free tickets for the Charleston bus tour, but it really isn't that great. They also promised to pay for our parking in the garage behind their office, but oops-- they didn't. There's $20 down the drain. Save that precious time on your vacation and skip the whole experience with these guys. Like timeshares, this isn't as good a deal as they make it out to be.

Interesting business model. Here's the down and dirty: The 'pitch' to get prospective buyers in the…read moredoor was the company's 'anniversary' and them giving out special gifts. Promised? A voucher for ANY type of carriage or bus tour, a voucher for a second tour, and a voucher for $75 to be used at any - ANY restaurant. The guy pitching put all emphasis on what we might do, where we might go, very little about the last little bit - we needed to return next AM, hear a talk, to receive our gifts. This was so fast, so slick, that while my partner was in the bathroom (which was why we stopped in), I didn't realize this would be a sales pitch. Needed to leave $20 which we could pick up next day. Talk would take ~ 50 minutes. Okay, game for that. At minimum, we could just pick up the $20 and go our way. My partner used to do this type thing, so we knew it was about sitting through a sales pitch & getting some stuff. $75 voucher for a meal? Okay. Plus entertainment value, if the presentation was good. Ugh! Very stiff, tired, memorized presentation. Jokes? Really? If you need to say 'that was a joke', it isn't. Weird interjections, promises, and a great 'membership' for...wait for it - $6000. No need to to into details, we escaped after the 1hour 15 minute pitch. Gifts? A $75 check from Bank of America Acct, 2 vouchers, as promised. The 'tour' voucher was good for 1 company, and one only. Not a carriage tour, but a bus. Not from the Market, as promised, where all the horse drawn carriage tours depart, but a company several blocks away, bus only. Since the Better Biz Bureau gives them a 'F' rating (read the complaints), we figured better cash that check ASAP. $8 bank fee at BOA if you don't have Acct or credit card. We did, another couple did not. So, we got the 'gifts', but without calling the other carriage companies to see if they took the voucher, we would have been turned away, believing it was good for any - as promised. So, go for the gifts if you don't mind using 1.5 hours of vacation time, and don't sign anything. Check out BBB reviews, and check the other Yelp reviews- that are from folks who either work there or are related. Those reviewers? That don't review anything else! Interesting. YMMV.

We were welcomed by soft music and beautiful flowers welcoming us. There was everything we needed in the unit for our weekend. The accommodations were updated and very tasteful. If we could say one thing about the Villa it was the upstairs beds were too soft. If you need a firm mattress sleep downstairs in the room with the twins . Our overall stay was wonderful. It was when I went to book again that we had an unpleasant surprise. Jeanette (the owner) told me we did not follow the check out instructions to take out garbage . She stated the head of her her cleaning crew said garbage was left in the Villa and then check out instructions were not followed. I was shocked! There had to be a mix up with which Villa the cleaning crew was talking about, because I personally took all the garbage out to the parking lot garbage bin located in the center of the parking lot in an enclosure. There were 6 of us ladies ranged in the ages of 49-58. We left that place as we found it and the list was followed. Well, due to this accusation I was very insulted. Jeanette insisted she was right. I canceled my current reservation as I was so taken aback and a bit shaken. I have never had this happen to me in all the years I have rented homes and villas. Then after a week or so I decided it was too petty and the other set of women I was planning a trip with wanted to stay at Ocean Blue. So I put in the reservation and deposit. I very quickly received an email from Jeanette telling me they would not be honoring my reservation and no longer would be allowing me to rent from them. I couldn't believe what happened... This was the most unbelievable experience. After all the years of sending people to Kiawah Island Getaways and referring them they treat me as if I am some dirty rat. Sad experience... and probably due to a mix up with which Villa the cleaners were really talking about. However, that is far from how you handle yourself in business and customer service.

The 3 minute walk to the beach was shaded and pretty. We read through the helpful robust welcome binder thoroughly. Specifically, check out instructions were detailed, and we felt encouraged knowing this is part of what keeps the property a great place to stay. It was when my husband went to book the following year and to our surprise, the female co-owner advised that they cancelled our reservation. Disappointed, we called for an explanation, and she told us it was noted by housekeepers that the property was "difficult to clean with a lot of garbage left behind" after our stay. We responded asking for specifics, could this be a mistake, perhaps a mix up with another unit - as we took such diligent care to honor the property throughout, follow instructions, and to leave The Shade better than we found it. We swept, vacuumed, wiped down every surface and are 100% confident there was zero garbage left behind. Jeanette was curt, rude and would give no further explanation. She then deferred by offering to "allow" us to stay in one of their lower-end properties which she thought would be a better fit. This was insulting and we opted to take our business elsewhere. Interacting with her felt unsettling. A red flag and poor business acumen. There was another poster on this string who described a very similar experience arguing with the same property manager who told her that check out instructions for garbage were not followed. Reading that provided some solidarity after the bizarre interaction my husband and I had. Perhaps it is a pattern with this property manager. Posting here in case anyone else views this and experiences the same. There is not much competition on the island, but I would recommend booking with one of the other agents on beautiful Kiawah Island.
