There is a museum dedicated to the life and times of Buffalo Bill Cody. This includes clothing and items from his traveling show. If you're into firearms, there is an exhibitions that features nearly every kind of gun and rifle made and used in the old west. There is an art exhibition that features collections from local artists. And finally, there is an exhibition that features yhe history of local Native American tribes to the present day. There is an eatery and a gift shop. Be prepared to pay a hefty price at these places. The admission is well worth it if you take the time to see and read at each exhibit. You could literally spend 2 days to see it all.

The artifacts have little or no restoration to add to the authenticity of the town. There is a small graveyard on the site where the remains of several notable people have been relocated. Their life's story and how they died is on a plaque by each grave. I learned a lot about the old west here. The admission was reaspnable.

When we pulled up it looked really small, but when we got up to it, we saw that it was much bigger. Overall it was a great experience. At Old Trail Town, you will find artifacts from the Old West as well as grave sites of several notable Western figures. You will also find original cabins used by Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid as well as a Wyoming saloon frequented by Cassidy's "Hole-in-the-Wall Gang". Some of my favorites were the log cabin home of "Curley" a Crow Indian army scout who helped guide Lt Col. George A. Custer and the U.S. 7th Cavalry to the battle of the Little Big Horn in 1876, and the old schoolhouse.

Yeehaw! What an enjoyable evening I recently had at the Buffalo Bill's Wild West Spectacular in the…read moreCody Theatre on Cody's main street, directly across from Buffalo Bill's Irma Hotel. This was two hours of singing, dancing, and just plain old entertaining fun. The cast is a mix of local talent whom I have seen perform here before, and theatre performers from across the country who come here specifically for the summer run of the show. Before the show, I had my picture taken onstage with Buffalo Bill Cody himself, and one can buy a Sarsaparilla or an adult beverage from the barkeep while you are up there, too. Food and drink purchased in the lobby can all be taken into the theater, and they have show souvenirs available for sale down by the stage. The vocals are fantastic, and the choreography is vibrant and very well executed. The costumes, set, décor, and props are all top-notch. Even though it is a musical, the lights, the action, and the story kept the kids in the audience transfixed to the stage throughout the show. There was even some generous candy tossing to the audience during intermission by the show's barkeep and his young assistant walking down the aisles at the start of the second act. There were two standout scenes for me in the show, both late in the Second Act. First was Homeward Bound, a touching number about Buffalo Bill's separation from his daughter Irma while on the Wild West Show's tour around the world--Shoutout to Willow Fernandez as the Older Irma, whose magnificent voice and emotional performance were stunning. Second is Row of White Trees. This haunting number is about the loss of the buffalo on the Western Plains - flowing choreography and mesmerizing music - and a great example of the synchronized choreography by the production's ensemble. This is what the family wants to see when they come to Cody. This is something your family will remember, and the kids will talk about. It will be a highlight of your time in Cody and of your vacation as well. And when the show is over, get your picture taken out front with the entire cast. It's a great time and a great memory for all - believe me. I highly recommend this as a stop while in Cody.

Learning about the building of the Sidon Canal motivated us to trek out to the Powell area to see the canal ourselves. Pioneer history is still much in evidence in that area.

This visitor center is located at thr Buffalo Bill Dam. Inside they have books and brochures about…read morethe dam and it's history. There is a cubby that has seating. There you watch a 20 minute video showing the history of the building of the dam. It also gives you access to the catwalk that spans the top of the dam itself.

We had spent the day in Yellowstone, and we were headed to Cody for our hotel. I had read about the…read moredam online and wanted to make a stop. When you pull into the parking lot, they have a volunteer that picks you up in a golf cart to shuttle you to the front door. The day that we were there, a storm was moving in, and the winds were gusting something fierce! We really appreciated the ride to the center. Once inside, there is a very informative video that you can watch that explains all the trials and tribulations that they went through to build this dam. It's a very incredible story and worth the watch. You can then walk out on the top of the dam and look over both sides. As I said, the day we were there, it was super windy, so we were half afraid we were going to be blown over the top! But it was a very cool stop, and I'm glad we did it. Definitely make the stop if you're in the area!
