In Cody, Wyoming, there are TWO places that you can visit to see fascinating collections of firearms. The FIRST is so gigantic that your eyes will glaze over. The SECOND is much MORE MANAGEABLE and definitely MORE UNIQUE. Not only that, the owner will be on hand and he'll visit with you as you walk around and look at the exhibits. This museum is FREE. The family and I were visiting Yellowstone and stopped in Cody along the way. We had some extra time so decided to stop in. The proprietor was extremely nice and knowledgeable. The museum held hundreds of guns and antique old western paraphernalia. Great place to stop and take in some history, can also purchase working antiques or place orders with the owner if you have a specific antique item you are looking for. Great place! Had my hat in one hand and a hatpin in the other. The Operator rudely accused me of trying to take pictures! Where was my camera? Both hands were full. Shook my head to deny his claim, his response, don't shake your head to me! We left, bought nothing, and don't recommend anyone visit this rude establishment!!! read more

Had the opportunity to speak at length with the owner, Hans. A very knowledgeable man with a love for history. I couldn't agree more with all the prior good reviews! The night before I visited, they had driven all night to Montana to pick up an artifact for the museum. Dead tired, they debated opening the museum the next day, but Hans felt he should be there for the people who had traveled a ways to be there. We especially appreciated that as we had driven from Massachusetts to get there. If you love history, you will learn here while being entertained. Reach deep for a donation, as that is all the support they get, and there surely isn't a better bargain to be found. Thank you Hans for the Hi Power book. read more

A LOT of history and stories to see, hear and talk about. This museum opens your eyes and makes you think about the past. A must-see for anyone and everyone passing through or living in Cody WY. For those of you who have read some of my other reviews, you may know I really enjoy finding odd little museums. Well, the Cody Dug Up Gun Museum is a masterpiece of collecting, cataloging and presentation. Hans, the owner, has displayed artifacts from all over the nation that are a wonderful gem of a completely unique museums. Come to see this museum and you will be telling stories about it for years to come. This is an amazing and quirky slant on some true American history. What a great, fun, museum. One man's quest to exhibit old crusty, dirty, guns really puzzled me. The history that was artfully displayed with the firearms was perfect. It is a museum that is supported by donations and while it is nothing like the "other" museum in town; it is truly unique and not to be missed. read more

Super cool place, just off the main street. Very well done displays of guns, not just from the West but all over the world. They have exhibits from the Civil War, WWI and WWII and many others. Do yourself a favor if you are in Cody and visit this place! They have over 900 dug up guns on display from the civil war through World War Two! They are displayed beautifully within each era with descriptions of each item. The owner is very knowledgeable and loves to share his stories of how he acquired his collection, as well as stories from the various eras. read more

One of our friends recommended that we visit the museum and I'm glad we did. As other reviewers have mentioned, it's well worth a visit: very informative and interesting displays. Our kids really enjoyed seeing the artifacts (and may have even learned something!!!). And it was the first dog-friendly museum that I've visited - the dog loved it too! read more

They have guns found at Manassas! Right here in Cody, Wyoming! Really interesting and engaging presentation of all sorts of firearms from the West and elsewhere in the world. Obscure place, you will never notice it unless you happen to be walking on the sidewalk. We liked it, we recommend it. Skip the dozens of western-wear stores and go to this museum. read more
