Jerk Chicken Alfredo
Umair I.

The red snapper escovitch is some of the best I've had outside of Jamaica! The guava and passion fruit milkshake is a must try, and so is the jerk chicken Alfredo!!

The place is located in a small strip plaza on Kennedy Rd, which is not the nicest looking area. However, the interior is clean, nice and inviting. I did not stay to eat in, (I did takeout) but I saw that the presentation of the food served was great. Food was served on nice crisp white plates. It appears to be a nice classy place to have a sit down meal. Restrooms are for customers only and they ensure that by having a keypad lock on the washroom door. There is parking in the plaza. The back of the plaza seems to be parking for a trucking business. The service was friendly and inviting. I ordered the jerk chicken lunch special to go for $7.99. I was invited to sit by the bar to wait for my food and asked if I wanted juice. The three stars is solely based on the food which was average. The food was hot, the chicken was not dry with an okay texture, but the flavour was missing. It came with a side of sauce, which was very mild. The rice and peas were okay, they were mushy. The side salad was minimal and had no dressing, it was just finely chopped lettuce and cucumber. The chicken was a thigh and a drumstick, the rice was not plentiful.

Xaymaca is located in a strip mall on the north east intersection of Orenda and Kennedy about a block south of Queen. I decided to bring my wife's best friends to a place not too far from them in Brampton which happens to be a restaurant with Caribbean offerings. Jerk, snapper, festivals are just but a few treats to choose from. While there are some non traditional dishes like burgers, fries and pasta, there are plenty of choices for just about anybody. My wife can't handle anything with too much spice, especially heat. That being said things such as jerk or anything with Scotch Bonnet would be too hot for her. She ended up ordering the oxtail which is always a favorite dish among us. I had ended up ordering the barbe fried chicken plate with a side of fries. The oxtail stew came with extra plantain for a dollar along with a side of peas and rice and a scoop of macaroni salad. My fried chicken was a leg and thigh along with a couple slices of plantain as well as peas and rice and the macaroni salad. The servings are good for the price. They may not be overwhelmingly large portions but I believe the value is still great seeing as how my dish is not even 10 bucks. For those that would like to get a little extra there's choices for extra sides, upgrading sides and even add ons like a piece of fried chicken or shrimp or even a lobster tail to any plate as an option. For the chicken if dark meat is not your preference they do have an option for white meat although I like both dark and white I prefer dark meat for jerk. The prices for Xaymaca are really great value. I mean I ordered a side for fries and these were fresh cut fries on basically a small platter which I shared with all and it was only 3 bucks. Add on pieces of chicken are 2 or 3 dollars a piece. Basically the entire menu from top to bottom whether salads, sides, sandwiches, pasta, meat or seafood is all reasonably priced with a lot of selection. If you feel something may be too spicy you can go by the "flame" on the menu or even ask your server. Our server Ashley was very patient, helpful and was able to answer the many questions we had being it was our first time dining at Xaymaca and the menu is sort of overwhelming with the amount of choices and options for extras and such. The bottom line is Xaymaca has some really good food, many choices and options, the value is great and so is the service. I love the cuisine because it's a nice change from burger and fries but hey that happen to have that too.

You know, I've always wondered why there's exceptionally few Jamaican-fusion restaurants and fewer (or non-existent) Jamaican restaurants which incorporate a dine-in experience. Enter Xaymaca which describes itself as an "upscale Caribbean restaurant and Bar". 'Xaymaca' by they way, is the original native (Taino) name for Jamaica. It is certainly upscale when compared to most other Caribbean restaurants; but people shouldn't think upscale in terms of being formal with chandeliers and an expensive menu. In fact, most items on the menu are right around the $10-$15 range. It's a nice open layout and recently renovated. I think 'sports bar' is probably the best way to describe it and they have a number of big screen tv's, as well as a bar area. The menu features a number of Jamaican favourites, such as: jerk chicken, fried chicken, jerk pork, and various fish specials. There's also a big fusion element on the menu with sandwiches, appetizers (including wings), fries, burgers and pasta. I've only been in once, but I ordered the pulled jerk pork sandwich. Jerk pork is not as readily available as say the chicken at many places, so I wanted to take advantage. When it's good...it's good. I also had to see how they pulled off the fusion aspect. The sandwich was terrific and the pork was full of flavour (not fatty), and tender. It was served with lots of sauce and coleslaw. The fries really exceeded my expectations and were fresh cut and done perfectly. It's only my first experience and one item off the menu, but it's more than enough to warrant return visits and recommend anyone to check them out. I'll be sure to come too for wings on a game night.

This place has a great ambiance. Great servers. I tried the Caribbean spring rolls which were light and delicious. The jerk chicken had a subtle smoky flavour to it. Juicy, not dry. Albiet I would've liked it with some heat. For jerk it was surprisingly mild. The goat curry on the other hand was down right exceptional. That was so utterly well done it brought a tear. With the negatives, the rice was horribly overdone and lacked anything remote to flavour. You could almost taste the . Second the service took a very very long time in a restaurant that was almost empty barring one more table besides ours. That was almost a deal breaker. Lastly the Jamaican ginger was served cool with ice and not chilled proper. Took away from the flavor

Xaymaca Burger and Fries. It was great.

Brampton has a good number of Jamaican restaurants, but most are little more than take out counters with a few tables added for good measure. This place is a step up, with a menu that includes the favourites but also ventures into much more creative sit down dinner fair. Think of it as Jamaican restaurant meets fusion Gastro pub. The atmosphere is modern, though perhaps a little sparse. Staff are nice and attentive, food came with reasonable efficiency, and they apparently have live music occasionally throughout the month. I was in the mood for a burger, so I went for the house special which is topped with a jerk pulled pork. Both the burger and the pork was delicious and the Sandwedge required no additional toppings to provide a balanced flavour profile. The fries were perfectly cooked and sliced rustic style. There is an optional jerk poutine, which I would love to try when I'm a little hungrier. Reasonable selection of bottled beer. I went with some reliable red stripe. Would be nice to perhaps see some beers on tap, but they do sell larger quantities have a discount for parties larger than just myself. I will definitely be back.

After a Beasts hockey game, my group and I decided that we wanted to try some good grub in Brampton. You see, most of us are from Toronto and the surrounding suburbs. We decided on this restaurant because of its high 4.5/5 rating and how other yelpers had raved about both the dishes and hospitality. Unfortunately, customer service was nearly non-existent that night. Upon entering, we noticed that there was a party going on on one side of the room. There was probably about 30+ guests in the room (party-goers and non-party-goers included) and only one server was in attendance. That's a lot of people to manage for one server! The server herself seemed tired because she lacked any enthusiasm or general positivity the entire night. It would have been nice if she tried to keep a good positive demeanour the entire night because negativity really rubs off on customers, but we kind of felt bad for her. The long wait time was another sign that the restaurant lacked proper staffing that day. After our order was taken, it took about 40 mins to get water. Even more grueling was the fact that it took over 1 hour for the first of our dishes to arrive. All our friends finally got their dishes after 1.5 hours. I definitely think that long wait times can happen to any restaurant because maybe some staff members didn't show up that day. However, no one warned us before or even after we ordered, and the sole server never checked up on us (we had to wave her down each time). After popping into the dining area for a minute, she kept going back into the kitchen. Was she supporting the chefs or the cleaning too...? We don't know, but what we did know was that we were starving and that the rest of our plans were ruined because we didn't expect to wait 1.5 hours for food to arrive. Yes, you could say we were very hangry that night. Food-wise, we were pleased. We ordered pasta, oxtail, jerk chicken and a few other fixtures. All the meat varieties were delicious and beautifully juicy. The pasta was an exceptional MVP! We all agreed that the pasta's texture, portion, and sauce were among the best we have had. If it wasn't for the lack of customer service and the long wait time, we would have rated this place 4 to 5 stars. Despite the negative customer experience we had here, we may return the next time we are in Brampton. I mean we liked the food, so as long as that stays the same and the customer service and wait time become one-offs, then we would be golden.

I really enjoyed having lunch here. The food was great as was the server Marlon he did a great job. We ordered the fried chicken with jerk chicken, and also a jerk poutine with Barbfry chicken. Nice restaurant. Will go back again.

I read the reviews and was skeptical but it was my husband's birthday and I was willing to go out in a limb. Thank goodness I did. I was pleasantly surprise by the urbane and modern decor, courteously greeted and served by the infamous Marlon, impressed by the professional order taking and attention to customers, dazzled by the presentation and wowed by the taste and portions of the food, given the reasonable pricing. My husband is a hard sell but he ate his curry goat, rice and peas with mac salad, dived in to my plate of Jerk Chicken pasta and still order an oxtail dinner to go. From the delightful coconut shrimp and festival starters to the mains, this meal and service were executed flawlessly. We will be back and you should not let this culinary gem pass you by. Thank you for making my day and my husband's birthday Xaymaca!

Best plantain hands down- not too mushy, used perfectly ripe ones. Everyone enjoyed their meal and the jerk Alfredo was surprisingly excellent! Jerk chicken was tasty, salad fresh, macaroni salad was yum. Next time will try the Ap platter. Wish there were some Johnny cakes and coleslaw though. Will be back for sure when in the area.

The customer service was A1, our guy was very polite and very much respectful. This is key The food was OK, will I necessarily crave this food nope, but when i am in the area and I'm hungry ye i will go there. But it wasn't bad.

It was fun finding this place as it's located by my old Middle School…read more It is located about two stores down from the no frills they do have two tables that you can sit at and counter top with bar stools. Majority of the people who are there were taking out. The servers are really nice they have zero problem at re-explaining what is available and what is on the money to each customer. Their portions are pretty generous and they make sure that they fill up the container. I tried the goat soup they did a let me and other customers know that there isn't much meat in the soup anymore that it's mainly broth and they were selling it at a reduced price because of that. Regardless of it not having a lot of meat it was very tasty and I can honestly say that it was one of the best tasting Manish water soup that I've had in a very long time. I ordered a combo I chose oxtail and barbecue chicken I got the size medium and I chose coleslaw as my side it was $16 the barbecue chicken was fried first and it was crispy even with the sauce on top of it. The chicken was still juicy inside I do wish that the barbecue sauce was a little less tangy but other than that it was great. The oxtail was a good flavors were there, it was tender but I do feel it could have been slightly more tender to be fall off the bone.I think that the only thing that was really missing was spice and I am not sure if they have pepper sauce cuz it wasn't offered but I will definitely ask next time Also tried the stew peas and do note that there's stew peas is a mixture so it comes with beef chicken foot and pigtail in it. The server did let us know prior to us paying for the food. And for this we got steamed vegetables at the side the steam vegetables were really delicious. Out of all the things that we tried I think the stew peas was our least favorite it wasn't bad it just was not as flavorful or memorable as the other meals which is why I will still give them a 5 stars I am sure to someone else the stew peas is exactly how they like it. They also have different Island sodas available as well as different unique flavors of fanta. I did see that they have $8.50 chicken lunch meal specials as well as $6 student lunch specials I hope to come back again and hopefully I get the same quality. There was a continuous line of people coming in and out I visited on a Friday afternoon around 5:00 p.m. and I did stay and eat so I watched the line continue even when I was leaving there was still a line

So we happened to order this for our work lunch a few weeks back. My coworker and I decided to…read moresplit our two roties this way we could try to different flavors. Our first choice was the goat roti have the second was the chicken and shrimp. Even though we had Uber eats it by the time it came to us. It's still was warm and did not go soggy so these are thin roti wrapped with a thin layering of dry lentils and stuffed with the meat of your choice. The chicken and shrimp one was pretty average did not blew my pallet away. But the goat curry one was beyond amazing. I would give it a 10 on 10 it was stuffed with goat meat definitely worth each penny and full flavor. I think I ordered medium spice and it was just perfect. Maybe next time I would like to try the hot, the meal was so satisfying and comforting- for lunch I think a half of a roti was more than enough for me especially if you are at work and don't want to fall asleep. I do want to try them more flavors, but I don't think anyone would beat their goat-it was just too perfect. I believe they do have a special on a day but it's for pick up only not when your are ubering do check that out as well. Definitely a great spot if you haven't had them before. Maybe next time I will go and eat there the place looks pretty nice from inside I saw a few photos and it looks modern and welcoming.

Once inside you have the option to either dine in or you can order to take out. I chose to dine in and was seated immediately. I will say their service is pretty slow as the waitress took about 10 minutes before checking in with us, which was kind of strange especially since it wasn't that busy. Anywho, the food easily made up for it! I had gotten the Boneless Chicken Roti and it was amazing!! Definitely was filling and made you feel like you were back home with the solo soda! Once we were finished, it took about 10-15 minutes for the waitress to check back in with us after we tried to flag them down to get the bill... Food amazing, service needs a bit of work!
