Xcel installed a new meter on my house in Leadville. To do this they had to cut out part of my sidewalk. When they finished, instead of repairing the sidewalk, they simply tossed in some crumbly asphalt. I called several times to get someone to fix it properly, but they ignore me and never return calls. Xcel energy was in my neighborhood replacing powerline poles this week. They left my house with a wire connecting my house and the pole hanging less than 6 feet from the ground. When I called to get support, they said that a technician would come by to fix the wire. So I waited home all day, the technician never came, and when I called to check if they were still coming, the representative said the technician came & that all Xcel lines were OK!!! So they lied about the technician coming AND I have a blatant safety hazard in my backyard. Literally insane. Xcel should not be able to do business anymore, no wonder they are so many downed power-line related disasters. read more

They refuse to bury their power lines and turn off customers power whenever there are high winds, without ever paying back customers for the days without power or the food that perishes due to refrigerators not getting power. They don't communicate with customers at all and even their outage estimates on their websites don't work or are completely unreliable/inaccurate. And then they lie about being "99.9% reliable." I signed up for the smart thermostat and when the company began turning my AC off in the middle of the day I called to be taken off the program. Three years later and still haven't gotten a call back and their numbers relay you to rude and inconsiderate people, if you get the honor of speaking to someone in person. It's a few bucks savings and NOT worth losing control of your home especially if you have kids and elderly people in the house during those hot hot days.. This should be a crime. read more

I have solar on my house and produce way more then I use. excel has been estimating my meter instead of actually doing there jobs and reading the meter. this process started 3 months ago with no improvements, but I was told they submitted the proper paper work and it might take 4-6 weeks. I called again yesterday because I got another estimate. they ended up cancelled the correct paper work that takes 4-6 weeks and my incorrect bills continue. worst, laziest, most incompetent company!!!! read more

My experience with Xcel's inefficiency and delays during my home construction project in the City of Boulder has been extraordinarily bad. Due to Xcel's monopoly in their market, it is clear there is no motivation to provide even moderately good service to their customers who are captive to Xcel's schedules. After requesting the work in September of 2021, it took Xcel over 4 months to complete a simple task of removing a gas meter, which delayed the start of my foundation work from late November to February, which resulted in extra costs to me due to extensive snow removal and additional materials storage costs. Now, we are facing a similar, extreme delay while waiting for Xcel to move the temporary meter to the house; which was requested in September of 2022! My project has now been stalled for several weeks, because all of the remaining work is dependent on Xcel getting the meter moved. The work was finally submitted for scheduling on February 2nd, but we're still waiting to get a date for when the meter will actually get moved. As you can imagine, this delay results in additional costs and delays to my project and to contractors that cannot complete their work . Xcel's delay on this project has also kept me from providing my solar panel company with the Xcel account number that is needed to start the 2-3 month long application process for getting the PV system integrated with my electric service. for my project (which they apparently cannot provide until the meter is permanently installed). So, even after the meter gets moved, I will have additional expenses due to Xcel's inefficiency, because my solar panels will not be activated. Instead of running on solar panels that could power the entire home, I will be paying Xcel for 100% of my electric service until they get the PV system integrated with my electric service. All of this might make me wonder how such a poorly run company managed to make over a half billion dollars in profit last year. However, it is now clear that Xcel just passes the cost of their mismanagement on to their customer base. There is no competition to make them try harder. I am really looking forward to the day when I am no longer dependent on Xcel. read more

Excellent energy is a monopoly in the state of Colorado they have horrible customer service and there's nothing you can do about it because they are the only service provider in the city of Federal Heights . Xcel Energy should be broke up into multiple companies that compete for your business . They have horrible business practices they actually sent me to collections without sending me a bill . They did have my address because they sent me letters in the mail telling me how good I was using my electricity. But not one letter telling me that I owe them money . I have renters who pay for their own electricity I do not know when the renters stop paying the electricity unless I receive a letter from The Electric Company which they neglected to do and sent me straight to election this is an abuse of power and the only true way equalize the system is to break up the company in multiple services that can compete for local business . The good: When we smelled a gas leak near our meter, we called Xcel and someone arrived to look at it like an hour later. He was able to fix it on the spot. So Xcel, you are very good at responding to emergencies. The bad: We hired Xcel to do a recent air conditioning installation, and they subcontracted all the work to a company called Mac's Maintenance LLC. After a two-month-long process with them (which involved them screwing up royally on several occasions), they did not pass the city inspection. So, Xcel: your choice in contractors sucks. The good: Xcel lets me pay my bill online through my bank, and I get emails of amount due instead of paper bills (which tend to get lost in my house). That simplifies things a lot. The bad: But if I want to actually look at my bill to see the itemized charges, you make it difficult, Xcel. The Xcel website is terrible. It's a pain to use, nothing is where it should be, and it rarely has the information I want. I've tried looking up my bill and billing history several times there, and more often than not it says that there is no history available. It's an even split. Xcel, you could be better, but you could be a lot worse, too. read more

Having just moved into a new house, I have tried to figure out how to get the solar (that has been on the house since 2009) set up and in my name. I just signed up for service. At the end they transferred me to Allconnect. I thought this was their third party verification. Nope. A telecom and home security sales service. After giving my information again, I discovered my Xcel account was not set up online (had to give it a third time for that). All connect also TOLD me (not asked) to sign me up for emailed and phone sales as part of a move-in welcome package. I'm not bombarded with spam emails and sketchy calls and voice mails. Total jerk move Xcel tricking your costumers with deceptive wording to allow sales. Once again you've proven to be the enemy in customer service. read more

If you are looking for terrible customer service and long hold time, this is your company. I have an down POWER LINE on my driveway and along the length of my property. Called Xcel to come help, they promised someone in 3 hours... once they didn't show, the CSR told me "we will be with you when we can." I asked multiple questions like, how can you tell if it is active, will my children or others get electrocuted? The rep was very rude and said he isn't the expert and hasn't seen it. If you have any other way to get your energy solutions I would highly recommend using any company but Xcel. read more

This is THE most irresponsible company I have EVER dealt with. They have left us without power SEVENTEEN times this year alone. ALL other communities around us have their power restored. Our storm has been over for 3 days. Xcel always claims they don't know what the problem is. Well here is a unique idea: FIGURE IT OUT AND FIX IT!!! Today our power went out at 3am and we had to drive into Boulder and then up and down an icy treacherous mountain to check on our dogs. Ultimately we had to leave them in a freezing house in dangerous conditions because Xcel STILL hasn't restored our power TWENY ONE HOURS after it went out. NO ONE in our entire community has power. Tonight at 10pm we were told our power had been restored and we checked out of our hotel and drove and hour to get home only to discover we had again been deceived. So we had to turn around and drive another hour in extremely dangerous conditions, leaving our dogs behind in a freezing house because we have nowhere to take them. Xcel - get your shot together!! Stop endangering our community, our families and friends, and our pets!!! read more

It's rare that I take the time to write a miserable review, but this company deserves it. If possible at all, avoid this company for your energy needs. They are horrid. Not only overpriced, but then they make it impossible for you to pay your bill. We moved out the 3rd of the month, gave our meter reading and somehow, have used $55 worth of energy in just 3 days. Don't ever call Xcel Energy if you have a gas emergency. Go outside and shut off the gas to your house, then call a plumber. If you call the Xcel Energy Gas Emergency line they will send someone out and your gas will be turned off and locked. You then can't get them to come back out or even get anyone to answer your calls or answer any questions. They pass you around from department to department with zero accountability and zero action. Our gas has been turned off for 6 days now due to a minor gas leak. When the Xcel Energy employee was here testing for gas levels, I asked if I should open a window. He said no, the level of gas was so low it wasn't a problem. But they still shut off and locked the gas meter. The issue has been fixed for days and they still won't come out to turn it back on. Every time I call they say they'll put another order in their system and someone will be here within 24 hours. Hasn't happened yet. read more

Xcel is the worst company I have ever dealt with. They cut off my gas because they didn't tell us our builder wasn't paying for it anymore, then when I pay what we owed, they tell me to turn the gas back on, I need to be at my house for them to turn the gas on. I called multiple times to ask if they could give me a time range in which they would be to my house so I didn't have to waste my day off and could still get things done. They said that I just needed to be there all day until 10pm, and they will be there at some time during the day. After I called once again to have them make sure the person coming to our house called me when they were here, the worker didn't call me, knock, or ring the door bell when they got here, they just left a "Sorry we missed you" sticker on my door. This is the worst customer service I have ever experienced and if we weren't mandated by our complex to use Xcel, I would be cancelling our services right now. read more

Xcel is not an impressive company. Their website doesn't not function easily. I've always had a hard time finding out what my password is. If you can't remember it, you have to answer your security questions. If you don't get those correct, you're out of luck. Then you have to call. There should be a way to say, "I forgot my password", which they should then email you a link to securely reset your password. Also, on my last move, they did not properly transfer my account to my new apartment. I've been living there for 8 months and was just notified of the issue. I explained the issue, they said it looks like the order never got processed. So we processed it on the phone. Then got through that and they wanted to set me up with Comcast internet/cable because they thought I was just moving in today. I've obviously already been living in my apartment for the last 8 months and had that service for the last 8 months. Not impressed in the least. read more
