During that visit, technician stated that my exterior gas line (servicing my gas grill and fireplace) was leaking in a particular location, requiring a licensed plumber to repair. In the process, they cut my internet and phone lines. They didn't tell me (the only way I knew is that I happened to see their truck drive away) and they didn't call me. Xcel came out and ripped out our regular meter that we paid more on a monthly basis to opt out of smart meter. We are moving in a month and part of the opt out is that you have to pay for a smart meter for the next person moving in (what a scam!). We're a month away and a 3rd party company came today without an appointment or any heads up what they were doing. Absolute worst! We have traveled all over. We have been in hurricanes, tornado outbreaks, bad wind storms, and even snow in areas that never get snow. We have never had power issues. Yet, in the two weeks we've been visiting this area of Salida, our RV campground has lost power 5 times and counting. Upon reading a news report, it shows that this is super common for this company. It is known for not being able to keep the grid up, bills going out on time, and other issues. This is so annoying that in an area dependent on tourism, you can't keep the power on for your guests or residents. There is no reason for this many power outages. Put some money into the infrastructure and do better for those who depend on you. I can't imagine living here full-time and never knowing if I will have power in the Winter when I need heat or AC in the Summer when it's hot. Shameful. On November 1, 2024, I called Xcel to request vegetation management for debris on my property that had been left after a vendor hired by Xcel cut vegetation the night before. The representative informed me that a request would be submitted to vegetation management for assessment, but they did not provide any timeline for follow-up. I was advised to call back in a week if I hadn't heard back or if no one had arrived to clean up the debris. On November 6, I called Xcel again to follow up on the status of this request. I spoke with a representative named Amy, who was uncooperative and, in my opinion, quite rude. She informed me that Xcel would not be cleaning up the debris. I explained that I had already called the previous week and escalated the issue, and that a vegetation management request had been initiated. Amy confirmed that the request was still open, but insisted that Xcel would not be responsible for the cleanup. I asked her to transfer me to a supervisor, but she told me that no supervisor was available. When I insisted on speaking to a supervisor, Amy then claimed it was not part of her training to escalate issues to a supervisor. I pointed out that during my previous call, a representative had successfully transferred me to a supervisor. However, Amy was unresponsive to my explanation and did not address my concerns. As of now, multiple truckloads of debris are still on my property, posing a serious safety hazard, especially with the current weather conditions, including wind and snow. I have now spent over 8 hours on the phone attempting to resolve this issue, yet no progress has been made. I am extremely frustrated by the lack of resolution and am requesting immediate attention to address this safety concern. read more

I just received a notice from Xcel Energy suggesting homeowners should subscribe to paying $5.50/month to another company (Homeserve USA) for a home protection insurance plan for the natural gas and water service lines to our house. Xcel should not be in anyway connected with another company providing such coverage as this as the need for this protection is extremely remote with the very good materials used for these service lines to most houses in the US. This appears to me as a scam by Xcel and would not doubt they are getting a kickback from HomeServe USA. Absolutely the worst! They made a mistake and charged me $2000 for a house that I no longer live in... today is November 2024 I moved out in January 2024 they have not refunded me the money. They have admitted it is their mistake but every time I call I get put on hold for 30 minutes - and hour plus each time, anytime they actually speak with me they give me the run around and tell me "a supervisor will call you to handle this" yet NO ONE HAS CALLED ME. There are SO many reasons. First of all every answer was, "It's a new policy". I moved out of the townhome I was renting. My son-in-law and daughter are living there now. Then the manager/supervisor that called me back said he would shut it off even though I had just told him my daughter WHO IS PREGNANT and HER SON are there and he was going to turn off their electricity...that is pretty cold, disrespectful and out right crude. When I asked him about switching the account into my son-in-law, I was told there was no date next to the landlord's signature and becasue the KIDS, my daughter and son-in law, have lived there with me, it cannot be switched becasue of an address check?!?!?!? Really?!?!? I can't move and let them take over the responsibilites of raising their family?!?!?!?! Oh and the last call, because I said it was bullshit, he hung up on me. They had as many as ten, maybe more, trucks and over a dozen men working. At one point there was four lifts hovering around the problem pole reattaching power lines. During the recent high wind storm in the Denver metro area, our neighborhood lost power. I submitted a dozen outage reports to Excel via their website. After 2 days of no power, I, luckily, found an Excel truck driving in our neighborhood. The Excel truck driver told me he thought everyone on our block had power and no source noted our power outage to any of the workers in the field. I begged him to fix our problem , which he did in 15 minutes! So it didn't matter that I submitted multiple requests of our power outage! They wanted to force a smart meter on me, so I opted out. It's a simple transaction, I use energy, I pay them for the energy. It doesn't need to be more complicated. They said they would charge me $12 a month since someone had to come manually read the meter. I said that's fine, although I had never actually SEEN anyone in my yard or on my security cameras reading the meter. Anyway, a month ago, they came and changed my meter to an "opt out" meter. OK, whatever. My next bill, there is no electricity usage on it, just $20 for gas. I called and after waiting an hour on hold, was told that's because I got a new meter and they had to wait a while to read it. Doesn't make sense for a couple of reasons, first being that when they removed the old meter, they read it, and it was most of a month, and they could have billed me for that, so I don't get a two-month (and then some) bill next month. But, I also asked how they were reading it before since I had never seen a person in my yard. She said that's because the old meter could be read remotely. I did not know this, and I said "So, wait, you HAD a meter you could read remotely, thus having better accuracy and saving yourself time and expense, and you felt the need to replace a perfectly good meter, with one that can't be read remotely, all just so you could then bill me $12 a month more?" She basically said yes. Make it make sense. I guess, maybe, I can consider myself a job-creator, LOL! read more

We had a very large increase in our gas bill in December. A bill that would affect our budget billing. In addition and at the same time we detected a smell of gas, reported it, received no response, called again and finally got a tech out who found a gas leak at the meter. We have been a customer before 1996, never missed or was late on a bill. Never once did ask for anything from this company except customer service. I called Xcel customer service on the bill and was told by a rank in file agent that she could not help me. After asking to speak to a supervisor...supervisor Neal - employee #4597 - in the most dismissive manner EVER that "he will do nothing to help me!" I asked for his boss - was told his name was Paul with no employee number "who would tell me the same thing " per supervisor (sic) Neal employee number 4597. This review is for Homesmart service in Boulder, and does not apply to Xcel's overall level of service. Jim and Dave's holds a contract with Xcel Energy for appliance repairs. You pay Xcel so much a month and they send out a repair for a certain number of appliances. Our refrigerator icemaker went out and, at the same time, one of the French doors was not closing properly. They sent out one technician, Steve, who was very knowledgeable and he ordered An icemaker and said he would order a part for the door. When it came time to install the icemaker, a second guy came out named Eric. Eric brought the icemaker but it did not work. Said they had to order another part. He then said he couldn't fix the door because he said it was broken beyond repair. So OK a third guy named Austin comes out and puts another part in the icemaker and it works. He said he would order the cam part for the door and "try" to fix it. I said great. Next thing I know I get a call from a an woman at Jim and Dave's saying that the door was broken beyond repair. I said I did not believe her because two of the repairman said they would order a part and only Eric said it was broken beyond repair. At this point, she became rude to me started yelling at me and said I was acting like a child and hung up. All I said was that I didn't believe her, because two out of the three repair man said they either could or would try to fix the door. Jim and Dave's is highly unprofessional, highly undignified and I will never use Jim and Dave's again. Also, I am going to cancel my Appliance Repair at Xcel because they came out to fix our stove but said they wouldn't fix it again if it broke again. I'm going "what the heck"- why do I pay for these people. Xcel is a waste of money and so is Jim and Dave's. Just call a real repair person and pay them what they charge and be done with it. I'm a plumber and I have a family that they turned the gas off on the whole house because of a leak at a shut off for the water heater. Where the leak was happening they could have just shut the gas off at the water heater and keep the heat on in the house. These people have been with out gas and heat for the last 4 days. I fixed the leak that was present and called right away and they couldn't be bothered to come out and check my test. A couple hundred dollar fix turned into thousands because the things Xcel wants you to do. I can understand being safe but leaving a family with a small infant and a pregnant wife without gas for 4 days is outrageous. Every time I call they give no info and just say that they are on the schedule. I just want these people to have heat for their babies. It's been snowing and there is a risk of freeze. Never had this bad of an issue but goes to show you they only care about our money not out needs. Pathetic. read more

A year ago this month Xcel Energy sent out 3 guys to take care of a line that had become disconnected from the roof. Please note the line was NOT down just disconnected. The workers explained to me that they could not reattach line to the roof as it would be a liability issue for Xcel Energy. After a short discussion as to where they would reattach the line and how one guy says "Should we turn off the power?" The guy who is going to reconnect the line to a length extender says "Nah" As he connects the 2 lines together there is a loud buzzing, sizzling sound. One guy says "we got power baby" The consequences this endeavor resulted in 3 surge protectors blown out, a circuit board on my brand new furnace was blown out. My Salon Electric Chair was blown and the circuit board and power cord to my treadmill caught on Fire. It burned itself out but that explained the burning smell permeating through the house. I file a claim immediately, took pictures of items and submitted with the claim. Xcel Energy claims department informed me that as I could not prove they caused the damage, they are calling it "An act of God" I responded saying "Not an Act of God...an act of man" This seriously offends me on so many levels.
