    Iced valley girl

WOW! What a hidden gem! Located right off of Canal Street in the second ward neighborhood, Xela serves some amazing coffee, tea, and light bites. The service is friendly and each drink is crafted with attention and care. Drinks can be ordered from their front order window and are brought out to you by the barista in the seating area behind. Peak inside of their window and you can tell this team is serious about coffee. They have all of the coffee equipment and tools needed to make a seriously great cup. I opted for the iced Valley Girl, a double shot of espresso, Mexican vanilla and traditionally oat milk, however I swapped this out for pistachio milk for an extra $1. Take note that oat milk is their default for all of their drinks (huge claps for coffee establishments that don't charge extra for alternative milks) but the pistachio milk is fantastic and well worth the extra charge. The drink was bold without being overly acidic or strong. I would absolutely get this again. Xela offers their roasted beans for sale and almost all of their cold drinks in a bottle to go. This is a great option to stock up for the week if you're not able to stop by in person. They also offer gallons of cold brew concentrate to take home and prepare yourself. While they have a wide variety of creative drinks, I will note that it is a little challenging to tell what all is in each drink as the menu just states the name. Luckily I had reviewed their instagram page in depth before my visit (@xelacoffeeroasters) and saw the descriptions on the bottled drinks. I am really impressed with Xela and can't wait to take my friends next time to this neighborhood spot! Solid five stars!

Bright and colorful spot for coffee and breakfast bites. The Guatemalan influence is evident--from the name of the location to the various drinks incorporating local ingredients. It's home away from home! I tried a Duvalín, along with a couple of their breakfast tacos. Everything tasted incredible and fresh. The drink especially surprised me, as I wouldn't think to combine hibiscus with coffee, but it oddly works! Customer service was also great, with staff taking the time to explain seasonal options. The wait time was also very short, it couldn't have been more than a couple of minutes. Parking can be a bit tricky, as their lot is quite small. However, there's a fair amount of street parking in the adjacent neighborhood.

Five Star coffees in the center of Houston. Can't go wrong with any choice of the menu. Not the biggest menu but definitely all bangers! Don't see what you like describing your choice of coffee will get you a custom cup brewed up. Some seating behind and on the side of the building but no indoors. Order at the window and the friendly face will have your order out quick. Skip that starbutts place and get you a local cup of Joe in the hood!!

Just when I thought I had found a home coffee shop, we discover Xela. And now I'm in love! They take their coffee serious here! Plants too!!! Lots and lots of plants with great corners to sit in. Taste is everything and recipes are creative and fun! There are bottled coffee options and seasonal special drinks offered as well. Staff were kind and took the time to connect and explain their special menu. Dairy free people! And you could not taste the difference. Most of the time you can! I will be back! The coffee is good and literally finished it before getting to the house! I needed and wanted two. Try this place asap! Happy Yelping!

One of the best little coffee spots around. Grab a coffee pick me up and a good selection of food as well. Menu gets updated with new flavors so stop by regularly like I do to see what hats new. Plenty of seating outside or take it to go.

This was right across the street from one of my stops on my bike ride today. This coffee I ordered was an iced vanilla latte. The service was good, and the coffee was DELICIOUS. I love finding place know their coffee. Very aesthetically pleasing place.

I had my first experience here, and I was thoroughly impressed! The service was exceptional, and the coffee was great. We tried the Stardust, and it exceeded our expectations. I'll definitely be returning the next time I'm in the area!

I ordered "daily the works" and it was pretty good. It was the closet to a drip coffee that I could order. It was more like an americano with some extra ingredients. They do have other cold brew choices but that's not my preference. The good: my bro in law lives like 30 sec from this place so I see myself stopping by again. Love the coffee cups ! Easy to drink from and kept my coffee warm. Also, the coffee was hot when I first got it but didn't burn my fingers. Not sure what it was but the cup was designed a certain way that made my drinking better I know it sounds crazy but the cup didn't feel flimsy cause of the lid. I never once had to worry about the lid popping off. The okay : they don't have just a plain drip coffee and I didn't feel they had much other bake goods or other coffee shop like choices. You pay and get your change in this door. Another words, no hand to hand money exchange here. Not so good: it was a bit awkward when paying for my coffee. A worker told me that their machine had been indicating "declined" for previous customers and it was probably the machine. After 4 different cards and multiple declines...another person came by and it still didn't work. Luckily, I had cash and was able to pay that way. Driving away, not sure what would have happened if I didn't have cash that day. Oh well. I'll be back for sure. Cool place with some cool vibes outdoor seating. I went on a Friday afternoon and just a note they closed at 4 pm. I guess makes sense as they seem to be more small business and not national food chain.

Magic Johnson (cappuccino with a twist of cinnamon and honey)

Small spot for a nice day out! Today's weather is 67 degrees which makes this spot enjoyable. I say this because there is no inside seating. Umbrella patio is limited and could be not enough when temp gets higher. They have their own menu with some twists to it. My choice today is the Magic Johnson which is based with a cappuccino adding cinnamon and honey. As a bonus, they made it with oat milk and it was hot, quick served and delicious. Many wall arts are surrounding this business! It's located in the second ward. it was a really quiet neighborhood the time I checked in. No wifi as of today but they mentioned they're working on it. Parking is okay for maybe 10 cars. Mostly if you grab and go, you'll be fine. May get a little cramped at other times. Staff is super friendly and thoughtful. Thanks for the welcome :) recommended if you are in the area!

This coffee shop is in my area and my cousin recommended and the place is so cool with their art. I got a mocca and it's was EH. the time I tried it I was in my car already and didn't feel like going back to have them remake it. Waste of a good $6, I'll try them one more time to try to change my mind. I couldn't add a cold foam which is my fave so that was disappointing. Just felt like this place is so hyped up and to me it was just so mid

atmosphere: 3/5 - no indoor seating, but the outdoor seating is super cute. Just really hot location: 3/5 - next to a car wash and a residential area. Very nice and quiet. parking: 5/5 - plenty of space available at peak hours coffee: 4.7/5 - perfect temperature, very strong flavor customer service: 5/5 - the man at the window was very up beat and happy to help us.

I was today years old when I learned this spot existed in the second ward ‍ Thankfully my friend told me about it on our drive back to Houston so we stopped for an afternoon cup. Small parking lot and street parking all around. Service was lovely, so kind and welcoming. They sell coffee beans, small medium and crazy large bags. I ordered the matcha and it was fantastic! I can't remember what all was in it but it was delicious once your order is ready, there is a silver box that you open to get your coffee out of to the left of the window of where you order. Ambience is very cool, kind of 90s feel ish. There was a food vendor right next to the shop that was set up but we ate, just went for the drinks. I'll definitely be coming back!

Vibe- This is a cute colorful coffee shop in EaDo/second ward Houston, TX! You order at the window and there is a contactless box to the right of the window where you grab your drink. There's no seating inside the building, but there's a good amount outside for you to sit and enjoy your drink. Customer service- Great! The gentleman that took my order today was very helpful explaining what was in the drinks. Food/drinks- I honestly don't know the exact name of the drink I ordered (something along the lines of on the kirby..) but if I were to go back for another visit I'd probably try their matcha latte. Parking- There's about 5 or so spots in the lot next to the building and other than that street parking.

When I stopped by on a weekday evening at 9pm it was packed. They had stations setup throughout the store to order different goods, which helped to alleviate the rush. Knafeh ($6) - They offered 2 types of knafeh, one with cheese and one with custard. I went with the one made with Nabulsi cheese and topped with shredded phyllo, and soaked in sugar syrup. It was warm, crispy and delicious! Karak tea ($5) - This milk tea drink was made with aromatic spices, primarily cardamom, cloves, ginger and cloves. I was happy to see they used whole milk instead of evaporated milk. The drink was incredibly rich and creamy and tasted great. Turkish delight ($18 / lb.) - This was extremely fresh, soft and chewy, made with cornstarch, sugar, nuts. Some of the varieties I tried had chocolate and/or fruits. The baklava here was fresh made with layers of phyllo dough, chopped nuts, and held together with some honey. The nut offerings here included, almonds, walnuts, peanuts and a few more. Overall I was impressed with everything they offered here with the exception of the nuts, which I thought were just ok. I'd definitely return if I was in the area.

For example, with the Turkish delights and ice cream selections, only a few items are labeled. For most of them, you have to guess the flavor or ingredients. When I asked questions, there was a language barrier, and the staff member behind the counter was unable to clearly explain what the items were in English. This can be especially frustrating for customers with food allergies or dietary restrictions. In the U.S., I would expect all flavors and ingredients to be clearly labeled so customers can make informed choices. Even if staff members are not fluent in English, having accurate labels for flavors and ingredients would greatly improve the customer experience. The desserts themselves are excellent, but better product labeling would make the experience much more enjoyable and accessible for everyone.
