The staff in store are very rude. Both the price of the products and quality of product is just so so.

I remember when this market first opened (during my college years). Though many years have passed,…read moresome things never changed while others did. Produce, meat and fish are still fairly cheap. They always had a good assortment of Asian vegetables (yu choy, gailan, bitter gourd, ect) and still do. Never bought meat or fish (never indicated source, farm raised vs wild caught, antibiotic or hormone free, ect) so I continued to pass on buying these items. They also have an array of Asian goods (mostly Chinese) like frozen meals, canned products, medicine and cookware. They used to have a bubble tea kiosk, that has changed. It was shut down a long time ago, but the signage with the prices still exist. Can't believe small cup of tea was under $3 and a large was under $4 (will mostly likely never see these prices again). Sadly, overall cleanliness declined over the years. Stores like Whole Foods put effort maintaining equipment, overall appearance and clean standards, so older outposts seem sparkling and orderly. Here, it's the opposite (displays that are not clean, dinged and scuffed floors, freezers with condensation buildup, ect). Will still come here once in a while for the fresh veggies and Asian goods.

A fascinating range of diverse fresh produce, a change from what you may find in your general supermarket, useful for different dishes: various hot Peppers, Gourds, Melons, Alliums, Greens, Mangos, Turmeric, etc. (Wow! Never seen a Banana Flower!) Subzi Mandi's back aisle shelves hold Spices, Jaggery, Ghee, Pickles, Chutneys, Condiments, and many other shelf-stable Indian food products. Their refrigerated and frozen selection also ranges from sweet to savory, vegetarian to animal protein products, for all eating occasions. Up front, they also have snacks and confection. Beyond food around the store, you'll find wellness and beauty items, incense, cooking utensils, and general household products. Subzi Mandi is a market worth exploring, but clearly not a store for everybody. Certainly, it's not some place your average weekly shopper would head for a one-stop shop. Its worn floor also needs some attention. What particularly impressed me, however, was the checkout - note, where you can purchase some fresh, tasty Samosas to go. The charming cashier paid special attention to my friend's 89 year-old mom, who filled her cart with familiar goods for eating at home. That engagement, given the proliferation of self-checkouts and overworked cashiers working understaffed registers, created a personal touch that made our trip to Subzi Mandi a memorable experience.

Instead they kept making Holi party plans despite we mentioned the register is dirty because of the spill and that we were having inconvenience to bag our items due to that. Terrible service.

As we squeezed through the aisles and others squeezed by us, I scoured all the shelves. Fruits / veggies seemed fairly normal, some normal food on every shelf and some Middle Eastern brands. Then you get to the multiple brands of mulberry syrup, the various types of dried sweet olives, the Azerbaijani salsas, and things get fun. This is a Turkish mart, but they branch out in all directions. I found Lebanese, Palestinian, Hungarian... the list certainly goes on. It was fun picking out different foods I felt like trying. They had a pile of fresh-cooked, fresh-wrapped breads made in Irvington. Still good 3 days later, now part of my sandwiches for the week. They sell a lot of sausages (all halal, no pork), but the star is their homemade beef sausage. I grabbed one of those and it's now sliced on those fresh breads (along with the Azerb salsa and some baba ghanoush). And yeah, I did end up with some olives for fun. Great little place if you just want to explore. If you're someone halal and/or from the Middle East, so much the better. Now, you do pay quite a bit more for many of the foods here, most notably where you can find similar brands/products elsewhere. And I noted the small size before, which means they're limited in what they can carry. Some items, like the olives, took up disproportionately much shelf space, squeezing out some of the varieties I would have liked to see more of (like hummus, there was very little to peruse). So that's the star deduction. But with that, do come check out Sultan next time you're on 46.
