They have this hot sauce that is extremely spicy and it's so tasty and Smoky that it just goes so well with their meats. Stopped in randomly on a Saturday and grabbed an order to go. Greeted cheerfully by the young lady Hostess and asked about their lunch specials - unfortunately they only have them during the week. That was fine though, leftovers are never a bad thing. They had quite a few take out orders while I waited, but no one eating in...I hope it's just a Saturday-lunch thing, because this place is great. Pretty small on the inside, but very cute. I kept it simple - Chicken kebab platter with a hummus appetizer. Food was up quickly and the service was super friendly. We went for dinner and can't say enough good things about the restaurant. The staff were very kind and friendly. I ordered the falafel platter and it was the best falafel I have ever eaten. My husband ordered Koobideh Kabob and said it was delicious. The unsweetened iced tea has a really nice flavor, too. Save some room for the Persian Rollet. I wouldn't personally order gyro, hummus or falafels in a Persian restaurant as there will be many other dishes not available in other places. Instead order an appetizer like ash reshteh (if you're vegan without the kask), mirza ghasemi, kask bademjan, koo koo sabzi, tahdig, one of the many stews or kebabs (i liked the koobideh best), I'd say kaleh pache and halim are for the extremely adventurous. It's great that they have all these dishes on the menu. As someone who cooks Persian food pretty often, I find this place has an authentic home cooked taste and friendly service. I'm so sad to write this, because we were really excited to try this place. The restaurant is at the end of a strip mall, but it is pleasant enough inside. The host/waiter was welcoming. The three of us ordered Hummus, Baghali Polo, Beef Soltani, Ghormeh Sabzi, and Halim. The hummus came with a very nice bread. However, the hummus itself was just ok. It seemed very under seasoned. Like you just puréed chickpeas and didn't add anything else. The Baghali Polo was not great. I love dill, so that wasn't the problem. All I know is that I didn't want seconds. The Beef Soltani was fine. The Koobideh was tasty, but the tenderloin was lacking in flavor and was tough. The saffron rice that came with it was good, but the grilled tomato was terrible. It was a whole plum tomato that must have spent thirty seconds on the grill. The Ghormeh Sabzi was just ok (are you sensing a trend). There were only four small chunks of lamb, which were tasty. But the sauce just didn't do it for us. Basically, I was just eating it because it was there. The Halim was good, it just wasn't what we were expecting but that is our own ignorance. I expected it to be more savory with bigger pieces of meat. This was the favorite dish of the other two diners. I also had home made iced tea which was not good. It was really cloudy and had an off putting taste. The best item was the homemade saffron ice cream. This was excellent. Great flavor and texture. Unfortunately, the rice pudding was terrible. I have had Persian cuisine before and have really enjoyed it. I have even cooked some dishes from this region. I have dried Iranian limes in my pantry. This restaurant just left us cold. read more

Rayhoon Persian Kabob House is a small restaurant. The dining area is long and narrow with an outside eating area. As I was seated I could see a women in the adjacent room cooking. The host, a man, also serves as the waiter. Despite the lack of help, the food came out in a short period of time. I ordered the Chenjeh Kabob ($11.95), I love Near Eastern flavors and my meal was very tasty and cooked exceptionally well. The dish came with Saffron Basmati rice, a fresh garden salad, a whole grilled tomato and noon barberi bread served with butter. White sauce enriched the two large skewers of lamb kabobs. Everything came out in a timely manner and hot. The only complaint would be with the tea I ordered ($2.75). It simple was not flavorable enough for me. They have lunch specials from Monday till Friday (11am-3pm). A large parking area makes it convenient to get in and out. read more

The Kashk was warm and flavorful served with a delicious warm crunchy bread. The Koobideh on our lunch plates was flavorful, succulent and juicy. Maybe the best I've had and not all dry like many other restaurants. I'm biased because I love Persian food, but this place is delicious. Very fresh tasting and a good portion size for the price. I ordered the Barg kabob which is filet mignon that comes with rice and a roasted tomato. Wish it came with either more tomatoes or more veggies in general but this is usually how it's served in Persian restaurants. Ask for a side of sumac it's a nice, light flavored spice to sprinkle on the rice. They give you a little packet of it for takeout. Definitely will order again to try their grape leaves and hummus but I loved their kabob and will be back again for that. read more

I went here a few weeks ago and I felt like my dish was very salty. I got the lamb stew dish from the Persian dishes section. My husband's parents got the kebabs and they were pretty tasty. I was going to go with that but I wanted to try something new. I also tried a few other dishes like the soup and it tasted a lot like the stew except without the lamb pieces of course. I was expecting a bit more variety or difference in dishes. Next time if there is one I'll stick to the chicken and beef kebabs they were very juicy and we'll flavored. Also I did enjoy the tzatziki sauce and the hot habanero sauce along with the rice. Warning though be light on the hot sauce I wasn't at first because I had no idea it had habanero and I almost choked. Service was alright, the young lady was nice just not so attentive with a few things but other than that she was personable. read more

I can't believe I never knew that this place was here! It seems like it is relatively new and glad I got to check it out! My fiancé and I came in on a Friday night for outdoor dining, and were able to get seated right away. I'm not sure if they've always had outdoor dining, but they've definitely done a good job with the space that they have outside. They have set up a wedding-type tent with some picnic tables and decorated with flowers which I think is a pretty cool vibe. For our appetizers, we started out with hummus and stuffed grape leaves, both of which were really good. They also came with some super warm and crispy bread, perfect for dipping into the hummus. As my main course, I got the falafel platter, which comes with six falafels, a grilled tomato, salad and a lot of rice. I definitely wasn't able to finish all of the rice, but scarfed down all of the falafels! I'm very picky about falafel, and I would say that there's was definitely on the better side. I prefer them to have a crispy layer on the inside but still be soft and flavorful on the inside, which they definitely have accomplished here. They have this really good hot sauce which is insanely spicy, but if you just put a little bit into the yogurt sauce, it is DIVINE. Make sure you ask for it if they don't already give it to you automatically. My fiancé got the chicken kebab sandwich; I had a bite and the chicken was definitely on point though the wrap itself was pretty basic. The only one thing that I would say I was a little disappointed about is, that even for outdoor dining, they used takeout containers. In my opinion, that kind of defeats the purpose of dining in at a restaurant. However, I understand that a lot of businesses are doing what they can during this time and there must be a reason as to why they are doing it this way (whether it be hygiene or something else). but from an environmental perspective, I definitely do feel bad contributing to waste in this way. We went to this place for Mother's Day after my sister and I talked about it for a long time and ordered geymeh bademjan, kookoo sabzi, hummus, chicken soltani and some kind of sandwich. The experience was such a disappointment. First they messed up our reservation and then all the food was cold. The food was in pots that were meant to serve hot food but the food was cold. Then the Geymeh Bademjan eggplant had the most awful taste. It tasted like the eggplants were sautéed in really old rancid oil and it spoilt the entire dish. Their service was not too bad but it's only because they had one server and she tried to make things okay, she really did so we appreciated her and gave her a great tip but we won't be going back. Fantastic Persian food. We loved everything we ordered. Their noon barbari (bread) was insanely good!! Hard to find good, fresh Persian bread in NJ/NY area. It came out warm with a crispy crust and soft interior. Just as good as back in Iran. What we got: Kashk-e-badamjan, tahdig with ghormeh sabzi, ash-e-reshteh, fesenjan, kabob kubideh, baghali polo, zereshk polo. The 5 of us finished every last bite of food on the table. The kabob was so juicy and everything had the right mix/amount of spices. Amazing flavor on everything. The service was fast and friendly - thanks to the young woman who was taking care of us! I just dropped off mail in Hiawatha and was going to circle back to a different restaurant when I noticed a new name practically next door. On the strength of 4.5 Yelp stars I moseyed over to Rayhoon to see how strong its Persian game is. Outdoor seating, fine by me. The good: Authentic tastes. The kashk-o-bademjan had multiple flavors I couldn't identify offhand, featuring fermented yogurt, caramelized garlic... it worked together. Totally worked together. There was an actual dehydrated lime in my Khoresht Gheymeh - be careful what you bite into! Excellent baklava. The bad: Service was relatively slow. The server went back inside for stretches without checking on me. She did bring me extra bread, which I appreciated. She forgot the weird salty yogurt doogh, which in hindsight I would have been better off without, but it's authentic at least! But none of the drinks are homemade except the tea. The... eh: Portion size. Appetizer was a nice size actually, but the meal was underpowered. The "saffron basmati rice" had a layer of yellow on top, which I can't vouch for being saffron or turmeric or what, but it was white all the way down from there. There were a few chunks of meat in the khoresht, but not near what I would expect from even a single kebab skewer, and a comparably priced kebab entree would have had two skewers. The verdict: 3.5 stars overall. I'm feeling generous about rounding up my star rating, but I wasn't impressed enough to trek back to Lake Hiawatha again just for this, and there are enough other Asian restaurants in town for competition if I do find myself there. read more

The best best authentic Persian food you will ever have. Portion size is large. We had our food as takeout. It was hit and so delicious. The lamb was so flavorful and moist the rice delicious it comes with a roasted tomato and a jalapeño. Loved it so much we are getting it again tomorrow. I recommend you try it. Coming here was worth it for the bread alone. Soft and pillowy with a thin crispy crust - amazing. As for the other offerings... the kashk-o-bademjan was not at all what I was expecting based on the description, but it definitely had an interesting flavor. It was a vaguely babaganoush-like and garlicky warm paste that probably would have been better on some bread. Unfortunately, we had already scarfed down all the delicious bread. I also tried the ghormeh sabzi which was also very interesting in terms of flavor but not really to my taste - the many herbs in the dish were overpowering at times. One of those dishes I'm glad I tried once but probably wouldn't order again. The kabobs were great though - the chicken was juicy and not dry, and the koobideh was particularly delicious. But the real stars were the white sauce and hot sauce. I would come back for the sauces and bread for sure.
