Anytime I have ever had an issue the XMission team has responded faster than Google (Google hosts certain tech features for us) and figured out what the root cause of the trouble we were experiencing before Google could do so. Our organization is not a huge client of XMission's but you wouldn't know that by the level of customer service we always experience. To make things even more impressive is their great commitment to this community. xMission sales rep solicited at our door, despite "No Soliciting" sign. Shoulda stuck to our guns, but we decided to get fiber thru them. We bought the routers the salesman suggested. They didn't work. We bought higher grade routers as a result. They offered no real improvement over our wireless provider home internet (which is half the price of fiber). The streaming would freeze regularly and speeds seemed no faster than cellular network. Customer service is true to all other reviews. They seemed to care less about our business or helping us, so we canceled within a week. Wish I would've read reviews here before I went with this company. read more

We have had XMission as our ISP since 2018 when we had our Utopia line installed. It has been by far the fastest, most reliable, hassle-free internet service we have ever had. When there are issues, which are extremely rare, they are quickly resolved and the company keeps you well informed. No reason to get service anywhere else. read more

I had Century link and never had a problem but I thought that I would try out fiber optics. My TV has just frozen and I can't even watch it. I have called them twice and they said they can send a truck out from Utopia but I would get a service charge for my two day old system that doesn't work. I bought the exact router that they recommended and now they want to charge me to fix it. The wait time for Xmission is ridiculous and the customer service was rude. Sorry, Emily. The issue is with my Wikimedia site.  We have had updates turned off for four years. I had another admin watch as Xmission backed out the changes a week ago and made the website work magically.  The settings that are there are part of whatever they did to make it work for Monday.   Probably they restored Plesk settings it to a backup point where it was on. It has been running for four years , with updates off, because we knew it was incompatible. And you see no logging of intermediate updates, because it was off for four years. Service gone to crap?  Check the tickets for my stats being down for probably a year. How long will you continue to ignore that?  It went down when you changed hardware. i was told you lost some history. No big deal. But it still does not report stats. And when I wrote a note over the weekend. I still haven't gotten a response. So I suggest Sales review the support history before 'splaining' technical details they don't understand. It's interesting that Sales has the answers when support tells me they don't know the issue and it will get escalated tomorrow. added: I believe the wiki was installed before plesk was on scene (21 years ago when we had ssh access). Media wiki does not register with plesk for that domain as can be seen in the control panel. Other things were added using plesk . I am sure those early incompatibilities are just coming home to roost. added: The web site access issue was fixed, but they could not find the root cause. Michael said he would be monitoring the site to ensure the statistics work. They are not working. Since they are "monitoring it" they have set the expectation that if it is not working, they will let me know. No such notifications. Support is great if you don't need them. read more

I have Utopia service through XMission. Definitely the best option after having used a couple of the alternatives. The others didn't know how to manage their networks. They oversubscribe bandwidth, and are unable to help anyone who wants anything custom. Of course XMission understands networking, they are one of the oldest ISPs in Utah. They were here when dialup first began and have been in business ever since. Unlike most of their competitors who went out of business because they could not manage a network or a business. They are also better than their competitors who excel at providing services to apartment complexes but fail when it comes to home Internet service. If it were not for XMission, I might have left Utopia some time ago. With XMission I always get the bandwidth I am paying for. For a short period I thought that was not the case but their helpful support identified my aging WIFI router as the issue. After replacing it I suddenly had the speed I was promised. read more

Avoid at all costs, over the corse of 7 years (not by choice) I have had to work with their hosting/email/dns team. This is the worst hosting provider I have ever used. GoDaddy is better than Xmission. Between constant lockouts of our accounts and their slow response of any updates or changes to our DNS, I have had nothing but problems with them as a provider. They cannot even manage to resell email through Microsoft 365 correctly... Again Avoid at all costs. read more

Well I have utopia and XMission is my internet and phone provider. Well my phone hasn't worked for going on 3 weeks now it is February 19. I have called the technical support 7 or 8 times and have spent probably over 5 hours on the phone with them and nothing the last 3 times all they say is a new adapter was sent out on the 11th by fed x and nothing they can do. So be aware that if you go with XMission and have a problem your in trouble because their technical support doesn't know anything except how do I unplug and plug in an adapter. That is their biggest technical support advice That must be a company line " you have every right to be frustrated" because I have heard that the last 5 times I have called. But I still sit here with no phone and all I get is the telephone adapter was shipped on the 11 First I was told it shipped fed-x last Saturday I was told it shipped USPS and now I'm told it shipped fed-x. I was told on February 13 that if I didn't get it on February 16 they would have someone run one out to me well here we are February 19 no adapter no phone the guy I talked to today took my number and said he would look into it and call me back. It looks like there are some honestly bad reviews here which makes me sad. In every industry you can have unhappy customers, and often the happy customers don't go out of their way to post a review. I have worked in IT since before XMisson was founded and I've watched them since the day they opened their doors. I have never and do not work for XMission, I'm just a happy customer and I've had pretty much every other ISP over the years. XMission sets the bar, if you want the best Internet pick XMission. If you are in a Utopia service area, I absolutely recommend you choose XMission even though it's not the cheapest. You don't want your Internet to go down; it takes some yokel with a backhoe cutting the fiber and if that's the issue in your neighborhood it wouldn't matter which ISP you have at that point but at least with XMission you can see they are rolling a truck or working on the issue, good luck getting that from the other providers. They have very rare issues; you can't redundant against every possible issue and sometime equipment fails in a crazy cat-lady way that causes impact. XMission is transparent about it and you can go read the too-common fiber cut and rare failure tweets at @XMissionStatus. I literally never want to move again unless Utopia is available there! read more

I've been a customer with them since shortly after the opened. It was a great business, with a customer focus and service orientation. Those days are sadly gone with the business taking arbitrary and capricious positions positions and attitudes with customer support taking longer and longer with less and less resolutions to problems. Like a bunch of other reviews, their customer service isn't the greatest. One time my internet was shut-off. Called customer service and he had no clue on how to help me based on my router lights. He said he called Utopia and said they'd call me back. No one called me back. I had to call Utopia to find out there wasn't a notice to call me back. Also, once you're signed up with them, they won't hesitate to start sending out account shut-off notices if you don't pay on-time. I've been with them long enough to think they'd treat me better, but one missed payment due to a card error and I'm getting shut-off notices within days and calls about when I can make a payment before they shut me off that day. I love Utopia, but these guys need to chill out, especially when there are other competing companies that can run Utopia as well. They're the middle guy who's just taking money without doing their part. read more

I wanted to switch to XMission after seeing their rates and their good reviews. I reached out to them in June and began a conversation about switching over. By July I was ready to do it and asked for the paperwork necessary and got it going. I submitted the documents they required but they failed to contact me back until I reached out to them in September and cancelled my order. I figured if that's how they treat a potential customer then I would be treated worse as a customer. It's too bad because I like what they have to offer. read more

Ordered the 1Gb service as an upgrade. Was told it would take 1 hour until sometimes 1 day to change. After 2 days I was still seeing the lower speeds. Contacted Xmission and found the service upgrade never went through. Not happy the sales rep never completed my order and dropped the ball. read more

Worst useless customer service ever. I had the guys from utopia install the router and everything. I asked the utopia guys to show me and give me an idea how to start setting up the internet. Their answer we can't help you call xmission. Fine the guy that answered pretty arrogant like everyone that calls should be tech savvy I guess he was telling me that I need to figure out the router. I have been with xmission for years and love that they are local, responsive and very good at what they do. And, I think it is a cool name!

We have hosted with XMission for 16 years. In the past 7+ years they seemed to totally ignore the customer's needs. They arbitrarily (without warning) force PHP upgrades on a server-wide basis which plays havoc with our website. We were never informed about the upgrade via email. (We don't constantly check the Plesk panel every day for words of wisdom from XMission...) I think this poorer service started when Pete Ashdown was not actively involved in every day matters. We host a few sites with other ISPs throughout the country (for SEO purposes) and have NEVER had any of them upgrade PHP globally on their servers (or any upgrade) resulting in problems. I would like to host locally but options for that are limited in the Salt Lake City area. read more

Based on my experience today, they get a one star review. Our company site went down at 2:00am and wasn't back up until around 9:00am. No one would answer chat or phone. Had to try to get someone through facebook in their marketing department (kudos to their marketing department person!) to help get someone on it. Wow, huge fail. While I don't make the decision on who hosts our site, this kind of failure in today's world is almost unforgivable and I'd be shopping, right now. It's now almost four hours after it came back up and they have not yet provided an explanation as to what happened. Where is their failover server? Is there no redundancy? XMission is one of the best ISPs I've had the pleasure of doing business with. I was on their Gigabit plan, and only experienced they occasional outage or maintenance period. Had to call once for technical support when I was unable to get an IP assigned to my router, it turned out the cable box had gone bad - Not their fault or their hardware, but they were quickly able to direct me to UTOPIA and get it resolved. Never once experienced throttling or bandwidth constraints on the gigabit line I had. They were very flexible in providing a static IP as well, and were able to set it up over a PPPoE connection with just one phone call and about 10 minutes of time. The occasional outage was always either prefaced with a notification of maintenance or quickly followed up with a report, and never lasted more than an hour or two during day hours. Unlike many other ISPs I've dealt with, they don't call you constantly to try and upsell you on your service, they don't harass you with advertisements and offers, and allow you to opt into completely paperless billing. Overall, their service was straightforward, reliable, excellent, and they were always readily available were any issues to come up. I would highly recommend them to anyone, and wouldn't even consider switching were I not moving. Companies like this should be the major contenders in the field. read more

I used to use Xmission when we had a basic html based website, then it got a little more complex and I took a programmers advice and tried out a new company.
