Very disappointed. The Food was bland and doesn't taste like authentic Portuguese BBQ Chicken. I am Portuguese and grew up in Toronto around Little Portugal with many Authentic Portuguese BBQ establishments. This place certainly doesn't compare. The Chicken wasn't crispy, was bland and barely warm. Ordered a whole chicken and got a chicken with 3 wings and 1 leg? The Rice was bland and the potatoes were cold. Living in Woodbridge there are 2 better options at Major Mack and Weston Rd if you want a more authentic better tasting Portuguese BBQ Chicken. Very disappointed. Do not recommend. 1 week ago we called to place an order which they said served 7 to 9 for our group of 7. Mark the owner, said we needed to UPSIZE the rice AND the potatoes ($$). Why mislead customers saying that it serves 7 - 9 and then tell the customer they NEED to upsize? $$. On picking up the order we asked for some extra sauce. The young girl said NO but you can buy it. We only spent $120. We have ordered Portuguese chicken before. In fact from legitimate Portuguese restaurants on College St. where not only did they include extra sauce on the side but they added extra sauce in the container with the chicken. The Xpress chicken was quite dry. At least the potatoes were tasty. A disappointing meal for a family celebration. We will not return to Xpress. read more

Nandos who?! This place is an absolute gem. Love love love their food - so flavourful and juicy chicken. The spicy is actually spicy! Their potatoes are to DIE for and that peri peri sauce is exactly what a peri peri sauce should be. I've been here multiple times seeing as I live around the corner and am always glad to get food here. Service is top notch, it's never too long of a wait cause they're quick. Not much room to sit and eat so it's more of a take food and go sort of situation but you can't complain when the food is this good! read more

Had lunch last weekend there with 3 others Busy place, clean, not that friendly. Food tasted amazing but portions were small. We all ordered the 1/4chicken which was excellent. Some of us had a salad only, which again was a small portion while some had the potatoes and rice which was also a small portion. Would recommend and will give it another chance and order a whole chicken next time as a meal and hopefully portion size on the potatoes and rice are enough. Hot sauce was super tasty! read more

Yes yes yes!!!! I see this place every morning when I grab my Starbucks and I've been curious. We ordered through Skip The Dishes so automatically we assume it'll be a bit cold and not at its full potential. But if this isn't full potential I'll take it alllll day long! We had the ribs and chicken and both were so tasty. Potatoes were nice, salad was fresh and the tarts and cheesecake were a nice way to round off the meal. Definitely a repeat! With so many Portuguese chicken places in Vaughan for me what separates Xpress BBQ from the rest of them is their made in house Piri-Piri sauce. Probably the best Piri-Piri sauce I have tasted thus far. We had ordered a #5 package which includes five chickens, 1/2 shallow tray of rice and 1/2 shallow tray of potatoes as we were having a large family get together. It was all great. Chicken was cooked perfectly and was nice and juicy. It was perfect with the medium heat piri-piri sauce on top. The rice and potatoes were seasoned well and were a great compliment. Phone service when we called in our order and counter service when picking up our order were both great. If you are placing a large order I highly recommend calling ahead of time to avoid a real long wait time as it's real busy. I will definitely be back to try other items such as the grilled chourico and squid. read more

I would love to be the first to review this place. We all know that Portuguese BBQ chicken places are a dime a dozen but in my eyes this one stands out for me. This place is very busy and its probably a good idea to call your order in before you go to avoid the wait times. There is very little space to sit down and eat so I would plan on doing take out. Now on to the food. The chicken is very fresh and tasty. Perfect on the seasoning. Its never dry. Very moist. The potatoes and rice are pretty standard. The shrimp patties are to die for. Very disappointed. I bought over $400 of chicken, rice, potatoes & salad there this past Sunday. I got 1/2 the chickens mild and asked for 1/2 plain with the sauce on the side. They charged me $8 for the sauce which would have been free if it was put on the chicken. I didnt complain but asked them about it and the guy just said. "Ya, they charge for it" this was my 3rd catering order but the first that I picked up myself. Happy I did, will not return. Food 2/5 (50% of final grade) Disclaimer: The only other "Portuguese Chicken" I've eaten was in Macau, so my review might be VERY biased, and largely based on my experience with BBQ chicken in general. Simply put, the chicken was bland. I was surprised that with so much sauce smeared over it came out to be so... bland. After the initial hit of the salt I simply couldn't taste anything else. No spice, no oils, semi-dry texture of chicken. Not to my tastes. Ambiance 2/5 (15% of final grade) The interior was small, so this was obviously a takeout place. The moment you step into the establishment, you come face to face with the cashier. This felt very cramped and much too in-your-face for me, but that's only attributable to the placement of the register, so there. Other than this, there were three tables outside for seating, the place itself looked clean. Service 2.5/5 (15% of final grade) Nothing particularly bad or good about the service, it was just normal people serving normal food normally. Cost 3/5 (10% of final grade) For the amount of work that seemed to have been put into the chicken, and the fact that they seemed much authentic, the cost was perfectly reasonable, if not on the cheaper side. I would recommend this place for a late night chicken to go with some light drinks at the peak of a summer night. Other 3/5 (10% of final grade) Brownie points for the cool cooking method they used. They had a huge oven/roaster where they put a flattened raw chicken in to roast (slid into the oven on its side on a pan) before taking it out and smearing it with what was supposed to be juicy Portuguese sauce. Decent Portuguese food here... Chicken is good but not great. The rice could use a little help, but Im not a rice guy anyways. Potatoes are always undercooked and generally flavourless compared to typical Portuguese restaurant fare. Many folks frown that you have to pay for hot sauce, but keep in mind, the hot sauce is actually made in house and comes in a variety of sizes. I personally think it's well worth the cost, especially when you know you're not getting something run of the mill in a packet. Be careful though as the sauce does spoil quickly. I've noticed that it turns after about a day when stored properly in the refrigerator. So it's better to get a size that will be consumed quickly. Just my experience. read more

Always seem to get poor customer service at this place whenever I go there. If I order ahead and go when they tell me to come, the food is not ready and end up waiting an additional 15 minutes or longer. They never go in order when serving customers. read more

Really good chicken! As I entered this Portuguese chicken eatery I definitely noticed the delicious golden smokey scent coming from the ovens. When I saw an oven open with the chickens spread on vertical racks, I knew I came to the right place. I ordered the half chicken dinner which came with 2 sides so I chose the potatoes and veggies. I also tried a Portuguese shrimp puff which was sweet and creamy, really good!! It took a while to get my order because it's a small place and there were a good amount of people there, on the bright side it does build up a hunger. Unfortunately the food smell gets into your clothes as you wait and there is no place to eat food there. When I received my meal I went outside and sat on a curb to enjoy the goodness. The chicken was tender and flavourful with smoke and topped with peri peri sauce. The potatoes were a bit salty and the veggies were steamed well. I would definitely recommend this place for a pickup. Remember to order ahead. read more

I absolutely love this restaurant and I am really surprised that this restaurant wasn't already listed in yelp. I always get their quarter chicken bbq meal that comes with two sides. I usually go for the rice and potatoes which are amazing. Make sure to get their sumol soft drink which comes in pineapple, passion fruit or orange. Their cod cake is also a must try. read more
