But in the middle of the trip, he suddenly asked for $50, which shocked me. I paid it because I was already in the cab, middle of nowhere and had little choice. At the end of the trip, I confronted him about the misleading quote and felt that I had been tricked into booking the ride. In his response, he argues that "850" could mean "$850" and asks how I could be sure it meant $8.50. But that actually proves my point: he is acknowledging that "850" is what he said over the phone -- he did not clearly quote me $50. I believe the cheaper quote was used to get me to book the ride, and then I was charged $50 once I was already inside the cab, in the middle of the trip. If he had honestly told me it was $50 the night before, why would I have booked him instead of Uber? This was last November, during the off-season, and Uber was showing roughly $10-$15 for the same 13-minute trip, even when scheduled the day before. I obviously would have taken Uber. And who in their right mind would knowingly agree to pay $850 for a 13-minute ride? His argument that "850" could mean $850 completely misses the point. The reasonable interpretation in this context was clearly $8.50. I admit I should have double-checked the fare before starting the ride. However, that does not excuse giving a misleadingly low quote over the phone and then charging a much higher amount afterward when the passenger is in the middle of the trip has zero option but to pay. When I questioned him about the misleading fare at the end of the trip, his attitude became rude, and I simply wanted to get out of the uncomfortable situation. I became silent and ended the conversation because there was no point continuing given his tone. The whole experience ruined the mood of our trip.

The guide spoke very fast. He had an agenda, he had points to hit, he had the same tired jokes every time. I also got quite motion sick seated in the back of the trolley on the windy mountain roads. That said, they were wonderful about wheelchair accessibility, contrary to their website they have a fully wheelchair trolley if you book it in advance and talk to them ahead of time, and you can stay in your wheelchair the whole time. Not all of the guides know how to use the wheelchair lift so they need to book you with a specific person. The lift worked great and was very, very quiet and in good condition. I felt safe going up and down. be aware that as a wheelchair user you will not get the full 30 minutes at a site as you will be the last to get off and the first to get on every time so your time at sites will be more like 20 minutes, which is barely enough time to use the bathroom honestly.

Each carriage holds about 8 or 10 adults, so seating is limited. They don't rush tours to accommodate more people, so once they are sold out, you can only hope for a cancellation or no show. The weather can be rainy in October. However, we were lucky to have missed the rain by a day. The Mountain carriage tour allows you to get above the trees and overlook the surrounding areas. During the peak foliage season, the views are spectacular. This year, the peak will likely hit the area after Discovers Day weekend. The tour is narrated by the driver, who provides some history on the park and carriage roads. It is well worth the money spent for the hour, as you get to experience it from the back of a carriage powered by a team of two large horses. The views are breathtaking and provide numerous photo opportunities. Keep in mind that the area has poor Internet connectivity., so use a printed map to guide you to Wildwood Stables.
