I first met Dan when he was supporting GOBA and saw his talent and care then, some 20 years ago. He and his staff at Breakaway don't just do it well, they do their best. Dan was able to diagnose and solve tire issues on my '85 Bridgestone Touring. It has an odd tire size, 27 1/4 Schrader. Best, Breakaway found a C&O Canal path tire for my upcoming trip. I just picked up my '22 LOOK 795, in for a firmware update and resync. Kevin is now installing half stepper cranks on two Christmas presents, Cannondale T 700's. This tuning and general going over & spiffing, will include fresh brake pads. They'll also put on C&O tires. Breakaway Cycling is one of the reasons Delaware is the place to live.

After we…read morehad spent a day in Berlin and Walnut Creek, I saw an ad for e-bike rentals at Charged Ride and we decided to try these out the next morning. Wow! The customer service was outstanding, and the e-bikes themselves were loads of fun. Kyle was extremely helpful as we decided how long we wanted to rent the bikes, and gave us great instructions on their operation. He also gave us a card with his number in case we needed anything. The bike trail from Holmesville to Killbuck (which Kyle suggested) is paved and very-well maintained. My hubby's bike got a flat tire at that point, so he called Kyle; he showed up with a new rental about 15 minutes later so we could enjoy riding back to the shop. Now hubby wants to buy two e-bikes. :) This is how a business should be managed.

Their staff takes time to learn about your riding style and what you are looking for. When it comes to repairs, they explain what they are going to do, show you, offer helpful input and they provide a reasonable time table on when the work will be completed. On top of all that, they provide great recommendations for local rides and upcoming competitions. Sometimes bike mechanics can speak with an air of superiority reminiscent of IT-guys. Not here, their mechanics approach bike riding/repair with the idea to teach, grow and cultivate your interest.

So I've bought 5-6 bicycles from Trek over the last 3 years and never once had a problem. Fast…read moreforward to now... I came in the store and ordered a bike from Devon and I had great customer sales interaction. He helped me find my bicycle online, we ordered it and about 2 weeks later I got a phone call to come in and pick up my new bicycle. When I walked in, I was greeted and I told them who I was and what bicycle I ordered. They brought it out front and it had a pretty bad scratch on the rear of the bicycle. (Not something that would go away) I also noticed it had a lot of grease/ hand prints all over it and the grips were not the ones pictured online. Thought no big deal, I'll just clean it when I get home. When I said something about it, the sales associate knew exactly there was a mistake but had to speak with the manager. Well the manger, Patrick comes out and starts finding excuse after excuse not to address something like the bicycle grips, (said, Trek has the right to put whatever parts on they want) sales associate tells him this is not correct and it's one of the selling points of the bike. So Patrick finally caves in and pulls something close enough off the shelf in stock to the Bontrager Satellite IsoZone Plus grips. Still not the same but I'm like whatever at this point, I'm not tryin to be that guy. Honestly I didn't like the fact I had to explain myself on why this wasn't right. But the grips were close enough, so why make a bigger fuss? At this point I'm tryin to be super cool about everything but also kinda taken back at the Trek sales experience. So I take the bike outside and load it into my truck and I notice the paint is chipped where the cable is routed through the frame and it's very sharp and could cut you if you accidentally touched it. I also noticed a lot of marks, scratches all over the bicycle. They also forgot to give me a take home bag, it's this bag with the warranty card and other Trek bicycle care cards and a tune up. So I bring the bike back inside and maintenance guy is more than willing to find solutions to try and fix the bike, unfortunately there is no paint touch up left to match. But the entire time the manger had a poor attitude towards what I felt like was me and to find any solution to fix what was wrong with this bike. So these weren't issues that were something that occurred from shipping, these were issues that were caused by whoever built the bike. Now mind you, not one other bike in the store look like this. None of them had excessive grease or fingerprints all over not to mention deep scratches. Those showroom bicycles were all nice and shiny and squeaky clean so my question is why didn't they just clean the bike after calling me and told me to come pick it up or look it over to see all the flaws? I just had a very poor interaction with their manager and I asked if I could return the bike and could they do anything as far as a little discount if I spent more money on a nicer bicycle and he said no. So I just ended up returning the bike on the spot. At this point I was just done with my new bike experience. Needless to say that all the staff members were wonderful but the manager wasn't the best at customer service. Definitely not the way a customer wants to pick up a brand new bike from a company such the Trek Store. Mind you these are $1000+ bicycles in here. But I'm sure sales are great and who cares about one persons bad experience? What's sad is that, at the time I really wanted another Trek bicycle and I would chalked up half of the stuff wrong with the bike, have I of had better experience picking up a brand new bicycle.

Made sure what I got was what I needed! Didn't feel like he was trying to up sell me anything! I strongly recommend anyone in the area to come and visit! It's not the biggest but sure has a wide selection of stuff, and not to mention your first tune up is free if you purchase a bike! Keep up the good work guys!
