It took me awhile to find an affordable wine tour option in the Piedmont/Yadkin area, and Grape Escape delivered exactly what we were looking for. Our driver, Paula, let us make our own vineyard itinerary. She picked us up at 10am on a Saturday, and we visited five vineyards in the Swan Creek area before returning around 6pm. Paula clearly knew all of the vineyards well and was able to make good recommendations at each place. She was friendly with all of the vineyard staff and helped us get a tasting table at each venue, making it a standout experience. My favorite part about our tour is that all of the wine tastings are included in the tour cost, so you don't have to worry about paying at each place. You pay everything up front, and Paula takes care of the rest! We visited Shadow Springs, Windsor Run, Dobbins Creek, Raffaldini, and Piccione vineyards. Out of the five, I highly recommend incorporating Windsor Run and Piccione into your NC wine tour! I also can't recommend booking with NC Grape Escape enough...they were exactly what we wanted.

We had spoken months in advance about a tentative schedule. I reached out to the owner two and a half weeks prior to our scheduled date to advise the exact times we would need their services. I called and spoke with him and he said not to worry about it because someone from his office would call the week of our scheduled date to discuss the details. Right after the call, I sent him a detailed text advising the hours I would need their service and received no response. The week of our service I received a call from someone in his office. I told her the times we needed the service and she said that was fine. At 3:30 pm the day before we scheduled his service I received a call from the owner during which he told me I would have to pay for an entire eight hours even though I did not need the service for that long and I had been trying to communicate this two and a half weeks prior. The owner argued and argued with me and kept me on the phone for an unnecessary amount of time. I would recommend you choose someone else for your transportation needs. I definitely will.

And the wine hop bus tour was a major component of what I wanted/planned to do this weekend. In claiming the final spot on this particular tour I thought I would be joining other singles, perhaps, and some couples for a day of wine tasting and winery touring. But no. This was a a group of 8 30-something women out on a girls day out for a birthday celebration. Vine Line knew that when they allowed me - a single man (while social and gregarious I am in my early 60s) - to book the reservation and board the bus. In spite of this incongruity everything seemed fine until we got to the first winery when one of the women "without wanting to be rude" very rudely said they did not want me at the winery - a concept I understood because it seemed odd to me as well. She then told me I wasn't even welcome on their bus - a service I had paid Vine Line for, and not them - and that she had called Vine Line about this. A few minutes later I got a call from Vine Line confirming this. What was supposed to be a gorgeous fun day winery hopping turned into something awkward, uncomfortable, and embarrassing for me - and unnecessarily so given that Vine Line owners - either Shannon or Dennis - could have (should have) interceded so that I did not end up totally out on of place what effectively was a private tour. I don't blame the ladies - except for the tone/words of one of them. This was all on Vine Line. Vine Line's first solution was to offer a private driver to take me to the different wineries. No go - signed up to go to the wineries with other people and not to be privately chauffeured by someone I didn't know. I had to ask for a refund before I was offered one - that should have been the first thing they did. This would be a one-star event. But the owner did take ownership of the situation and apologized for it (although the further he went into his explanation the less logical sense it made but I decided not to challenge it - it was a negative enough day as it was) . Over two hours later they made a mitigating offer of two gift certificates for future use. Because the owner took ownership of this mess and apologized, and because of the mitigating offer my one star is now two stars. When I once again have someone in my life with whom I travel I will go out and give them another chance - this is something that really should have been a lot of fun.

I'm not a huge wine fan so I got the sweet wine flight. I found two that I really liked! The red with blueberries and raspberries, and the white with peach! I even got a glass of the peach one. After enjoying our wine we went on a little walk to see the llamas. There were also mini horses and a donkey. Lots of chickens too. There was a food truck but I ended up getting some snacks from in the bar area instead. Next time I'll bring a charcuterie board because that would have been so perfect!

The cost was $59/person for a group of 4+ (this does not include any tastings or food). We ended up selecting Trip F: Elkin Creek Vineyard, Slightly Askew, Raffaldini Vineyards and Menarick Vineyards. Our driver, Johnthan, picked us up promptly at 10:30 to get us to our first tasting of the day. He was with us all day taking us to each of the wineries and was very accommodating. I hadn't been to this winery in a couple of…read moreyears and I was a little sad that the older gentleman I met here who was the owner had passed away. He may have appeared not nice but when I visited he was so sweet to me. I circled back and did a tasting and it was great. They do cater to the dryer palate, which I love. It was lovely trying some of the familiar ones and during my tasting, I remembered why I loved this place. The ladies that assisted me in my tasting were very knowledgeable and had excellent conversation. It was such a pleasant experience. They did let me know that the vineyard will be sold in October and hopefully, someone will continue it on. It so chill and lovely and I don't want to see it go away. If you are in the Lexington area, it's just 15 min away from Childress. I always say to support local if you can. If I had the money, I'd buy it lol. I don't want to see it go away. And those that work here, love it. If you're in the area, check it out. Even if you think you don't like wine or have a sweet palate, they will accommodate. I'm glad I stopped in. Cheers! Made in a wood fire oven the crust and overall pizza was absolutely the top that I have had recently. The creek if you want to walk down to it was very nice as well. I guess Elkin Creek is on the muddy side, but still quaint and nice to look at as well. Now the wine, I was not blown away unfortunately and each, had a way of making me think I was tasting some type of Kombucha due to the spices used in them an a lingering flavor. I couldn't put my finger on it, but it was that way through all of the six wines we tasted.
