This is one of the best wineries in North Carolina. We love dry reds, and they have a great selection. We visited on 4/16/2022. The hostess was both knowledgeable and pleasant. The owner was there as well, and we enjoyed having the chance to speak with him to learn a little about the grapes and the history of the winery. We will definitely return. read more

This is a little winery out in the middle of Davidson county. During the week it is a little quiet. OK VERY quiet! But it does get a little more hopping on the weekends, especially when they have live music. So they specialize in French style grapes, Rhône varietals to be more exact. I'm fact the owner was in France on the day that we visited. This day we sat outside on a beautiful 70 degree sunny day and enjoyed a bottle of Viognier. It was a lovely light an aromatic bottle that made the day a little better! You will enjoy a glass or two here. read more

This. Guy. Is. Terrible. I have never felt so unwelcome by a place of business. We are paying customers and we came with a group of nine people and we were told, upon arrival, we should call ahead for a group larger than six. (There was only 6 people there) He came to check to our wine bottle to see how much we had left because he was consistent about their closing time. Yet, he was drinking behind the bar. I am so insulted and will continue to post about the lack of appreciation for the business he gets. That man has no remorse and does not deserve to stay in business. Great wine and atmosphere... but not as over the top as some of the other wineries in the area. See they usually spend a couple hundred thousand on the atmosphere, buildings, etc, but Junius Lindsay is small and has that focus that probably costs them money in the long run while making them fairly legit. I really like the viognier and petite Syrah. I've seen an occasional food truck out there which is a good thing. Hopefully, I will be back there soon. read more

Love this place! Staff and owner are great and happy to educated you regarding their wine. Definitely would suggest a tasting to get an idea where your palette is happiest with the Rhône Valley wine. This place is great. Between the beautiful setting and great staff you are sure to have a good time. This is one of the few wineries in the area that offer Rhône verities including Grenache and Syrah (both are my favorites here!). Junius also has some cool blends that are unique! We enjoyed a beautiful afternoon in the rain at Junius Lindsay this Memorial Day Weekend! We had the Party Line light red wine, listened to the talented Resonate live music and ate great charcuterie and desserts from Tweedie's Treats Food Truck. The strawberry crumble cake was oh so good! Of course the charcuterie with meat, cheese, fruit and a croissant was exactly what is needed to savor with your beautiful wine. The JL Rose' is also spectacular. Schedule a visit ASAP! As a winemaker, I am perplexed as to how the owner of this winery, and presumably the winemaker, can manage to make such abysmal wines, while, at the same time, treating his guests rudely. A little bit of France nestled off of a country lane in Lexington, NC, Junius Lindsay Vineyard is worth stopping by. Michael Zimmerman, and the winery dog Bacchus, will be more than happy to share their love of wine with you. Michael, the grape grower, winery owner, and 'passionate about wine' proprietor built this winery on land that his grandfather was farming generations ago. Now, it is home to some French varietals like Syrah, Petit Syrah, and Viognier. The tasting room is reminiscent of an old Victorian train station and invites you to sit and enjoy a glass while gazing over the picturesque vineyards surrounding it. So, what about the wine? The wine is a miracle in NC. These are more French than typical of the region. The viognier, my favorite at this winery, is simply lovely. Michael doesn't overpower the grape. Instead, he ensures that the wine making process honors the aromatic nose and the dry mouth feel of this finicky grape. If you are in the area, do yourself a favor and stop by. Tell Michael that I sent you. You're in for a treat. Oh, and give Bacchus a scratch behind the ears. read more

Greatly looked forward to trying this place after reading the other reviews on here. Had visited 3 other vineyards yesterday and was only impressed by one...so was a bit skeptical about this. So we attempted to go to this winery on Saturday September 5, 2020. We arrived at 4:40 pm. Granted they stopped tastings at 4:30 pm that day and closed at 5. We had a pre arranged wine tour that day and our planner had called the week prior after looking at their website and confirmed this and the folks on the phone said even if we missed 4:30 we could purchase wine and enjoy the bottles there. There was a pleasant young lady behind the counter when we arrived. However she was busy with the three other groups there. Three. Finally a middle aged gentleman with the disposition of Rip Van Winkle arrived to tell us that he cut things off at 4:30 and it would " be smart" in these times if we looked at websites before making plans. I calmly explained we had and called and we're a little late because our prior stop was Childris and they were very busy so we ran a bit late. He said in a rather deflecting tone that well, people came late from there yesterday and he turned them away too. I said that's ok. We will just buy a few bottles to enjoy tastings we're not an issue. Nope, you can buy our wine and take it home he says. Oh really??? Lol. I said well I guess maybe we can just try to come back another day. He added again as we were walking past the three other groups ( still drinking) that maybe if we do we should read the website. Bottom line not sure where his anger and discontent came from. Was it that we were 10 minutes past a tasting? Why not sell me wine?? Was the attitude because we had a driver? Did he think we thought we were too good? Fact is it was a gift from a charity auction so get over the Escalade dude. Bottom line was it that we were six gay guys?? The tone of the day changed when he saw us. I'm not looking to challenge their behavior. I'm not making it up. I had six witnesses. His behavior and tone was dismissive, insulting and rude. Not a way " in these times" as he said; to be a small business in Covid. I'm not sure that the small groups of people ( had been to three other wineries that were packed yet day) actually consuming the wine amongst their sparse gnarly vines and surrounded by a cornfield. Yes. Not sure if corn is their main ingredient in their wines. Frankly I can't comment cause we were not allowed to taste. read more

This past May just after returning from a 2 week river cruise in France, complete with many French wine pairings with our meals, we went with our family to the French-inspired Junius Lindsay Vineyard for a picnic lunch. We loved its location and outdoor tasting room! A beautiful breeze flowed through the shaded room as we gazed on lovely rows of nearby grapevines with rose bushes at the ends of the rows. The quiet location is tucked away from the road and behind a large field of corn which made it feel like our private retreat. As we ate our lunch, we basked in the lovely ambiance of the place while savoring a few of their French varietal wine offerings, particularly "Forget Me Not" and "Specialty Bubbly Rose." There were many other award winners to choose from but we'll save them for a return trip. I highly recommend this vineyard as the perfect little getaway place for spending a nice day. On Saturdays, they offer musical ensembles and performers to enjoy, too. What more can you ask for? read more

For great Rhone-style wines in the Yadkin Valley, you can't beat Junius Lindsay. The Petite Syrah and Grenache are particularly tasty. The owner is a gracious host with a wonderful sense of humor. Enjoyed the wines, especially the reds (we bought a bottle of the Metro), and Helen was lovely. However, we found Michael to be incredibly rude. When asked questions about his background and the winery, he gave curt answers like "I don't answer that" and "Read the brochure." A wonderful, peaceful setting spoiled by poor manners. Junius Lindsay Vineyard was the last stop on my Lexington Winery tour! I'll have to visit again on a nice warm day...they have a huge open air tasting room (with plastic panels to block the wind), but on a nice day it would be so relaxing to sit out there and drink your wine! Their wine tasting was only $5 and included 6 wines (I think). I really liked, make that LOVED, all their wines and was sad to hear they aren't available in Charlotte right now. I always try to buy local and would love to be able to pick this up at Total Wine at home! Luckily we got some to go! read more

The tasting room is open-air which is amazing when the weather is nice. Luckily for us, we went on a beautiful spring day and they had some live music as well. The woman who did our tasting was great (I believe her name was Jennifer), telling us about the vineyard, wines, and her personal favorites among them and the ones she didn't like as much. They grow all their grapes on the property but have Childress make their wine. Not a big deal since Childress has an excellent winemaker. We paid the extra for the riedel tasting and the extra wines we tried with that (Roussane and port style) were my two favorites. read more

The staff here were great and really made you feel welcome. The scenery was fantastic and there was some live music to enjoy while we tasted. Responding to an earlier review, most wineries these days will not let you try every wine - the fortified/highest cost options are normally the ones that are not included. That said, you had two options: $7 got you a standard tasting glass and 6 wines to try, while $12 got you a Riedel tasting glass and 8 wines to try. If you're looking for sweet wines, this was not your place, as we tasted all dry options (outside of the dessert wine, which was quite good). The Viognier-Roussanne tasted off, but the separate constituent wines were decent. The Grenache was quite good, and a few other reds were pretty decent as well. Well worth a visit! read more

Junius Lindsay had good wine and a GREAT setting. I highly recommend coming for a tasting, but making sure you make this a stop where you stay for an extra glass of wine. It would be a good stop to schedule during lunch and bring a picnic. It is an outdoor tasting area plus they have picnic tables. Having been to Junius Lindsay multiple times on my trips back to my hometown of Lexington, it consistently shocks me that a place so fantastic is in Davidson County. While the scenery, hospitality and frequent events featuring food and live music should be reason enough to check it out, above all, the extraordinary wine warrants your attention. I generally do not enjoy wine (I am more of a craft cocktail person), but the French grapes of Junius Lindsay have an irresistible balance of complex yet approachable flavors. I have not tried one that I didn't thoroughly enjoy. It is a mandatory stop whenever I am in town. read more

My wife and I attempted to visit this winery, but we were unsuccessful. The two large dogs are pretty cute, and one could imagine they would add to the relaxed atmosphere. However the brown one started barking loudly as we approached and jumped up on us both. She was on a leash, but it was long enough that it could reach us at any point in the room. Despite having only one other customer, the owner stared at us and did nothing to restrain the dog. He simply told us repeatedly, in a curt, condescending tone, that we needed to come to the other side of the bar to be served and that the dog would not bother us. I don't know how he could say this with a straight face as his dog belligerently hassled us. Other reviews have mentioned the rudeness of the owner, and they aren't wrong. The guy is jerk. They advertise as an open-air tasting facility, but this is a bit of a misnomer. The room is mostly enclosed, and it feels quite cramped inside. They report a "breath-taking view" on their website, but this is also somewhat inaccurate. The tasting room sits in a bit of a valley, so you can't see much. We bailed and went to Weathervane Winery instead, which is just a mile down the road. That turned out to be a great experience: better surroundings and personnel, and they have separate dry and sweet tasting menus. If you have time to visit only one winery, pick Weathervane instead. read more

Junius Lindsay was one of the stops on my birthday weekend tour of Lexington Wineries with my family. Upon pulling up, we noticed the sides were open and the breeze could blow through... I knew it was going to be amazing!! Then we were greeted by Lindsay their dog. Totally harmless and sweet part of the "welcome wagon!" We are parents of a five month old. I had her in a baby-wearing device and walked up. Sometimes they give you odd faces at those places but not them! They were BEYOND warm and welcoming to have her along! There are two different tastings you can do. If you are with someone else, I recommend doing a reidel tasting a regular. You get two different glasses and make sure they tell you about it affects the smell in the different glasses! We enjoyed many of them! My dad bought a bottle of the reserve and we got one of the bottles of the white called second leaf! I highly recommend stopping here. The owners were fabulous and the woman pouring named Cynda was an absolute delight. There are tables there if you wanted to pack a lunch and bands that do perform there!! Stopped in again with our daughter this time. Make sure you get the better tasting bigger glass or you will miss out on some great wines. Now the owner can be a bit gruff as one complain said in his review, but don't let that turn you off. He is a gem underneath the rough exterior and if you give him a bit and ask some good questions he if filled with knowledge, he should be, he owns the place. Are not all the French as little rough and to the point.? Excellent wines and one of our favorite stops on the wine trail. A beautiful stop and worth the trip. The lady who helps there is also super friendly. We enjoyed it and took home a few great wines. We will be back. If you want to try something but its not in the tasting, sometimes he will have a hidden bottle, so ask. Just love his dog Lindsay who greets every guest who come to the vineyard. Within ten minutes we were all laughing. So don't let a bad review turn you away. Just drive up and enjoy. We did. If you join the wine club you save quite more that most vineyards. Love this place. For North Carolina, this vineyard has some of the best wines. If you are looking for somewhere to spend a couple hours on a Saturday this is it. They have a fairly large gazebo but no food (you can bring your own if you want). Sometimes they do have a food truck and music. Get on their mailing list. All of the prior reviews are WRONG! Helen and Michael are SUCH good people! They are of an older generation, yes. But they were both so friendly and welcoming. Michael even hugged me when I was leaving! Their wine is 110x better than Childress Winery AND their wine master came from Pindar (which is in Long Island). I would much rather spend my time here all day than at a commercialized business. Additionally, their wines were SO GOOD! They also supply the grapes to all the other wineries in the area. I am not sure where to start. I will say that the location is very nice. Most people rain or shine visit wineries for the day dressed for the occasion (nice clothes). The last thing anyone wants is a wet dog jumping on you as soon as you open your car door. Before you say anything, I do love dogs. As we approached the first thing out of the owner's mouth was "You are in a hurry to get here" not sure what to say back I said "yes, it is raining". He next commented on the speed at to which I drove down the driveway. I do not drive at an unsafe speed let alone on a gravel road in the rain. I will make my first suggest here. Purchase speed limit signs if you wish people to drive at or below a certain speed.  The other owner behind the counter made it a point to make us feel unwelcome by asking us what we were doing there on such a rainy day that they were getting ready to leave and what do we want to drink. Second suggestion here. Have your hours what you want to work not what are posted. The question was asked about how are day was and we replied we have been visiting wineries today. They asked if the other wineries were busy.  We shared that the other wineries were very busy and to that the response was will we only have had a few people all day it must be the weather. It was not the weather at the other nearby wineries, it was the FRIENDLY welcoming environment. Overall I can tell you we visited 4 wineries 3 of which were busy and the staff was happy to see us. This one did not give us this feeling, more like we were a bother and an unfriendly environment.  I will make my last suggestion; find a staff that is happy and not down on themselves to run the customer facing side of the business or sell it and retire. There are a lot of great wineries in the area this one is NOT a must visit. Spend your time at a different that welcomes your business. read more

If you like great wine and a great experience, this is the best vineyard in NC. Zimmerman's Rhone varietals (Syrah, petite sirah, Grenache, Viognier and Roussanne) are world class, and the place is set on 100 acres with vines all around. You can't do better. read more

This was our last stop on a three vineyard tour . We have visited Junius Lindsey before and came back because of the good experience. The place was empty and we thought we could get a chance to talk to the winemaker (Michael) . What a mistake. He was rude , pompous and rushed us through the tasting . This was the only vineyard we did not buy a bottle and sit after . Our whole party felt uncomfortable and unwanted. We will not go back. The dogs were the best part of the experience. They wanted to go home with us , and after meeting the owner , I understand why . read more
