In short: For the price this is a great resteraunt. The banana tempura desert was the stand out dish for me. I think they may want to consider raising their prices to afford some upkeep on their premises, as it is aging. I ran across this place because it happened to be in the same parking lot as my primary destination, and I was pleasantly surprised. I have visited Benihanas before and this place had the same general vibe, but I had a better experience here than any Benihana I've been to. I had the NY steak entree which comes which a choice of soup (I had miso), a small salad, grilled shrimp appetizer, and I upgrade my steamed rice to fried rice for a few bucks. I also had the tempura banana with ice cream desert. I arrived alone. Having never been here I was impressed by the little pond and waterfall with stream and koi fish. The whole building had an air of what was once a premium setting but had succumbed to age and poor maintenence. I see potential here, but it would require a heavy financial investment at this time to repair and clean. I was sat with a group of a couple family's that had just returned from a beach trip. They were all very polite and nice, but the smell of coconut sunscreen became a feature of my dining experience. The cook put on a bit of a spectacle, lighting onions on fire and flipping food around. All of the food tasted good, not amazing, but I have no complaints. I've been coming to Yamato for over 20 years, and the food has always kept me coming back. The sushi is consistently fresh and delicious, and, honestly, the sushi chefs are usually friendlier and more attentive than the servers. This visit started off on the wrong foot. Mark took our drink order with a bad attitude and then disappeared. About 30 minutes later, he came back without saying a word--just looked at us and walked away. It was disappointing and, unfortunately, not unusual based on many of my past visits. Thankfully, Sophie completely turned the experience around. She took care of us for the rest of the meal, and she was absolutely outstanding. Friendly, professional, attentive, and genuinely kind. She checked on us, made sure we had everything we needed, and reminded us what great service should feel like. In more than two decades of eating here, I can honestly say I've only had truly great service once before. Sophie is definitely one of the best servers I've ever had at Yamato. She deserves recognition for her hard work and positive attitude. The food is still excellent, but I hope the restaurant invests more in consistent customer service. Came here to celebrate birthday. Our party thought we might have a drink while we waited for a table. It was a birthday celebration after all. As we entered the bar we were given some bad looks behind the bar & that's when he said the bar is not open? On a Sunday at 3:30 while the room is full of people waiting for dinner? My husband said " way to lose money ". Now we did not cancel our place in line. We walked over to another restaurant Spumoni. Its italian they treated us well and served us until our table was ready. I would've loved to stay, but it wasn't my birthday. Ordered our food stayed quite a while, bill came to bout 230.00 + tip. Food was average, but the servers did stop by frequently to check on us. I just had the worst dinner experience with my family. We usually love coming here but from the second we sat down to order our waitress had the dirtiest look on her face. Not one smile, extremely rude to us. Then the chef comes to cook for us, being very sarcastic (not in a funny way) in a smart ass kind of way. We tried to joke with him and he wasn't having it. I asked for medium rare steak and he made it well done. My sister asked for no mushrooms so i told him i would eat hers and he said it doesn't work that way and he gave them to someone else. I wish i could give no stars. I regret not reporting them to the manager. I've never been treated that way. Idk what we did to upset them so badly. read more

My wife and her family loves coming to this place. They would usually want to come here to celebrate birthday or any celebration so I would come here at least 2 times a year. This is not my favorite place to come because they don't take reservations, it can be a while before you actually eat, the ventilation isn't the best here so you'll likely smell like smoke and the price is on the pricer end since you're getting a chef cooking in front of you. They do a wait-list now and all of your party has to be present to be seated. A lot of family comes here to celebrate birthday because the workers will wear cartoon character on their head and come sing happy birthday to you. They'll sign it in Japanese and then English along with giving you a dessert. Most people would order the combination dinner entree here because of the deal. You'll get miso soup or chicken broth, salad and then your entree of choice. I got the filet mignon with salmon before, filet mignon with scallops and filet mignon with shrimp. I switch it up this time and did the new York steak with salmon. I chosed fried rice as my side, the chef will also give you some veggies and mushroom too. The show that the chef does is great if you never seen it before but if you seen it a couple of times then you just want to eat. My food was okay, it's not the best of worst. Got quick seating at the sushi bar. Very yummy sushi. Got a ton of half rolls, including the 911, Ninja, Scallop Crunch, Spicy Volcano, Red Dragon, Double Sake Punch, Four Seasons, Happy, and Sumo. They were all so good, and the Scallop Crunch was the best. We also got the seaweed salad and that was super yummy. The taiko drum and birthday celebrations happening around us were fun. Love this place! The food is great and the service is always fast. They have a huge menu, so many hibachi grill and sushi options. I love how if you're dining in for sushi only you have the choice to sit on the pretty patio. I got the filet mignon and hibachi shrimp combo with fried rice and veggies. It was amazing! The steak was cooked perfectly and everything was packed with flavor. It also comes with a choice of soup and salad. This is my go to meal when I come here. We also got some jumbo Sapporo. We celebrated a Birthday and ordered off the regular menu because of my dad's favorite dish, Katsudon! The sushi and the bowls were amazing. The tempura udon was delicious and best when requesting the tempura be served on the side. The bar area was perfect for our large party with the TVs and service making everything just right. AJ was our server and he handled everything from start to finish perfectly. We appreciate his hospitality greatly!!! Our favorite cocktails had to be the Mexican Candy Margarita and the Watermelon!!! Was tons of food, tons of options and wed all ate way more than we should in one hour. the staff was awesome - helpful, fast, and efficient. All of the food was good. I'm sorry but Yamato has seen better days! We used to come every Friday and have sushi from the bar but they didn't have the sushi train working yesterday. The decor is very outdated and the lighting is low, dark enough but you can still see your food. We came around 9pm on Valentine's Day and it was very crowded, as expected. We waited about 25 minutes and they seated us at the sushi bar. We ordered 2 appetizers and two rolls with no rice. The crispy rice and the soft shell crab appetizers were good. But the no rice rolls weren't that tasty. The super burrito (hand roll) was good. But the orange roll was actually hard to eat, I think it's missing some flavor. We hadn't been here in quite a few years but we decided to try it out again. They completely redid the front patio area. The turtles are now safe behind a barrier. We sat at the sushi conveyor belt and were told it's no longer in use because of COVID? Bummer, but we got their menu. They did have "All You Can Eat" but I noticed reviews that they're really strict on not leaving food, and people had bad experiences, not to mention nothing I wanted to order was worth paying the whole price for All You Can Eat, and everyone has to get it at the table. We ordered sushi rolls, but were surprised they came with NO SAUCE. No garnish. No sesame seeds. Nothing. We had to order spicy mayo on the side. -The Crunch Roll had some crunchies on the top but they weren't fried onions, just tasteless flour crunches, and yet still no sauce! I was just so surprised! -The Miso soup had a few tiny pieces of tofu in it, and not much else so it was just broth. It was tasty but lacking in the extras that really make it miso soup. -The avocado roll was actually really good, the avocados were ripe and soft. A+ on that. -I think they could up their portions of wasabi and ginger when they bring that out. -I looked forward to the fried rice but was sad to find there was very hard kernels of rice in there. Overall, for the pricing we won't be coming back I fear. Our server was kind and quick but this isn't the sushi experience you're looking for. I order crab sticks which was fresh tasting and my husband ordered the disco roll but tge highlight was our server Raeleen she was attentive fast. This place is fun. The restaurant is fun. There's a remote like structure around the front half of it with Koi fish swimming around very fun for the kids. There's traditional Japanese masks and art on the walls and it's super fun to watch them. Cook in front of you very fun. read more

I have been here before but not for several years so it was time to revisit. I do enjoy tepanyaki places with the whole cooking show right in front of you. You get so sweet the food getting cooked to order and it gets placed right in your plate hot and ready to dive in. I got the chicken and steak combo. What's nice is it come with both soup, salad and shrimp appetizer. You choose miso soup or chicken broth. You also get the salad. And for the shrimp appetizer you get about 3-4 shrimp cooked up. A good start if you ask me. The cooking show begins and you see the usual fire volcano of onions and the steam train. Also fried rice heart beating never gets old. The chicken was delicious and good portion. The NY steak was pretty average however. Very bland and some tough pieces on a few bites. Meh. Maybe next time I'll do a chicken and something else combo. Fried rice was great too. Service was very good. We had 3 different servers helping keep waters full and checking if everything was ok. We have eaten there many times over the years. My wife loves the place, but I think it's overrated and expensive. So we go recently and the wife orders shrimp and filet and I order scallops and NY steak. The scallops had a funny taste, not necessarily bad, but not great. The NY lousy. Wife's shrimp was AWFUL, rubbery and tasteless, and the filet was just ok. So we order the above with 1 coke and some edamame, which was the best thing we had, and it was 110 dollars out the door with 15% tip. I don't tip more than that unless it's superior.
