I've been coming to Yamato for over 20 years, and the food has always kept me coming back. The sushi is consistently fresh and delicious, and, honestly, the sushi chefs are usually friendlier and more attentive than the servers. This visit started off on the wrong foot. Mark took our drink order with a bad attitude and then disappeared. About 30 minutes later, he came back without saying a word--just looked at us and walked away. It was disappointing and, unfortunately, not unusual based on many of my past visits. Thankfully, Sophie completely turned the experience around. She took care of us for the rest of the meal, and she was absolutely outstanding. Friendly, professional, attentive, and genuinely kind. She checked on us, made sure we had everything we needed, and reminded us what great service should feel like. In more than two decades of eating here, I can honestly say I've only had truly great service once before. Sophie is definitely one of the best servers I've ever had at Yamato. She deserves recognition for her hard work and positive attitude. The food is still excellent, but I hope the restaurant invests more in consistent customer service. My husband and I came here for the first time two days ago. I order crab sticks which was fresh tasting and my husband ordered the disco roll but tge highlight was our server Raeleen she was attentive fast. Cleaned the tables etc So we decided to come back 2days later Raeleen is not here bummer you could tell the patio tables were filthy no windows open and the waitress Natsuyo no comparison cold and tables had dead bugs all on them let's just say no Raeleen. So I attempt to order crab sticks again and was told they were imitation crab.i know what I had and it was real crab but she insisted it was fake though she wasn't here that day. She said Raelern was new what does that have to do with anything the cook isn't and he prepared it. I ask for the manager as soon as he walks up to me he says we dont have real crab without hearing my story. My wife and her family loves coming to this place. They would usually want to come here to celebrate birthday or any celebration so I would come here at least 2 times a year. This is not my favorite place to come because they don't take reservations, it can be a while before you actually eat, the ventilation isn't the best here so you'll likely smell like smoke and the price is on the pricer end since you're getting a chef cooking in front of you. They do a wait-list now and all of your party has to be present to be seated. A lot of family comes here to celebrate birthday because the workers will wear cartoon character on their head and come sing happy birthday to you. They'll sign it in Japanese and then English along with giving you a dessert. Most people would order the combination dinner entree here because of the deal. You'll get miso soup or chicken broth, salad and then your entree of choice. I got the filet mignon with salmon before, filet mignon with scallops and filet mignon with shrimp. I switch it up this time and did the new York steak with salmon. I chosed fried rice as my side, the chef will also give you some veggies and mushroom too. The show that the chef does is great if you never seen it before but if you seen it a couple of times then you just want to eat. My food was okay, it's not the best of worst. Came here to celebrate birthday. Our party thought we might have a drink while we waited for a table. It was a birthday celebration after all. As we entered the bar we were given some bad looks behind the bar & that's when he said the bar is not open? On a Sunday at 3:30 while the room is full of people waiting for dinner? My husband said " way to lose money ". Now we did not cancel our place in line. We walked over to another restaurant Spumoni. Its italian they treated us well and served us until our table was ready. I would've loved to stay, but it wasn't my birthday. Ordered our food stayed quite a while, bill came to bout 230.00 + tip. Food was average, but the servers did stop by frequently to check on us. My bestie & I had our galentines dinner yesterday at Yamato's and we absolutely freakin loved it. Immediately walking in, we were greeted & the decoration at this location was so cute. Gave real valentine vibes. We ordered a roll and 2 drinks, the roll we got was the yellow dragon roll which had avocado, shrimp tempura, & crab. It was immaculate. Our drinks were perfection. Love this place! The food is great and the service is always fast. They have a huge menu, so many hibachi grill and sushi options. I love how if you're dining in for sushi only you have the choice to sit on the pretty patio. I got the filet mignon and hibachi shrimp combo with fried rice and veggies. It was amazing! The tempura udon was delicious and best when requesting the tempura be served on the side. The bar area was perfect for our large party with the TVs and service making everything just right. Valentine's Day lunch with my SO. Everybody got the memo and came before the restaurant even opened "officially". Upon entering, most of the tables at the main dining are taken already. First time here. We showed up for a Saturday lunch and got he lunch all you can eat. $30, all you can eat in one hour. Was tons of food, tons of options and wed all ate way more than we should in one hour. the staff was awesome - helpful, fast, and efficient. All of the food was good. We came to Yamato's last night to celebrate our daughter's birthday and our experience was wonderful. We had 2 servers looking after us and our chef did a great job entertaining us and preparing the food perfectly for the six of us. We had different combinations of chicken, filets, NY, scallops, and shrimp and the food was very tasty. I'm sorry but Yamato has seen better days! We used to come every Friday and have sushi from the bar but they didn't have the sushi train working yesterday. The decor is very outdated and the lighting is low, dark enough but you can still see your food. We came around 9pm on Valentine's Day and it was very crowded, as expected. We waited about 25 minutes and they seated us at the sushi bar. We ordered 2 appetizers and two rolls with no rice. The crispy rice and the soft shell crab appetizers were good. But the no rice rolls weren't that tasty. The super burrito (hand roll) was good. But the orange roll was actually hard to eat, I think it's missing some flavor. We hadn't been here in quite a few years but we decided to try it out again. They completely redid the front patio area. The turtles are now safe behind a barrier. We sat at the sushi conveyor belt and were told it's no longer in use because of COVID? Bummer, but we got their menu. They did have "All You Can Eat" but I noticed reviews that they're really strict on not leaving food, and people had bad experiences, not to mention nothing I wanted to order was worth paying the whole price for All You Can Eat, and everyone has to get it at the table. We ordered sushi rolls, but were surprised they came with NO SAUCE. No garnish. No sesame seeds. Nothing. We had to order spicy mayo on the side. -The Crunch Roll had some crunchies on the top but they weren't fried onions, just tasteless flour crunches, and yet still no sauce! I was just so surprised! -The Miso soup had a few tiny pieces of tofu in it, and not much else so it was just broth. It was tasty but lacking in the extras that really make it miso soup. -The avocado roll was actually really good, the avocados were ripe and soft. A+ on that. -I think they could up their portions of wasabi and ginger when they bring that out. -I looked forward to the fried rice but was sad to find there was very hard kernels of rice in there. Overall, for the pricing we won't be coming back I fear. Our server was kind and quick but this isn't the sushi experience you're looking for. We have eaten there many times over the years. My wife loves the place, but I think it's overrated and expensive. So we go recently and the wife orders shrimp and filet and I order scallops and NY steak. The scallops had a funny taste, not necessarily bad, but not great. The NY lousy. Wife's shrimp was AWFUL, rubbery and tasteless, and the filet was just ok. So we order the above with 1 coke and some edamame, which was the best thing we had, and it was 110 dollars out the door with 15% tip. I don't tip more than that unless it's superior. What a big disappointment! Service and food was horrible. We went there for Mother's Day dinner. Understandably, it was 1.5 to 2 hrs waiting due to the occasion. So we opt to be seated at table instead of the Teppan Hibachi cooking. My daughter ordered 2 different types of sushi rolls, which the chef served it to her at the turned of his back; where the sushi bar was at. We sat behind the sushi bar. The plates was plain! Our chef was very good. He was social and cooked our food well. Our waitress on the other hand was slow, messed up our order and took forever. If it was busy, I would understand but it wasn't. They need to do something about the patio area. You used to be able to stand on the patio and look at the fish, that was part of the experience. Now, the patio is has transformed into a mashup of an indoor/outdoor area in the worst way with stapled plastic, plexiglass etc. It looks awful. For what they are charging, I expected a lot more. The server was very knowledgeable and explained the menu options very well. They have an early dinner special that comes with either soup or salad, steamed rice (fried rice for $3 extra) and unfortunately it does not come with a shrimp appetizer, but you do save about $7 ordering from the early dinner menu.
