My wife and I had not been to Kisho in over ten years, and for some reason it popped into her head to go. We invited another couple and headed out for an early dinner on a Friday night. First of all, they accepted a reservation. Doesn't sound like a big deal, except most of the restaurants where we live do not. It just makes it more convenient. We arrived a bit early and were asked to wait until the table was ready. They don't seat in this restaurant unless they have full chairs at the griddle, but they manage people well. We were seated right on time. Our server found us right away for drinks, and our chef soon showed up and began cooking. Like all Teppan restaurants, he did a show while he cooked our food. He was very personable and all of the food was cooked perfectly. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. The only weird thing was no chopsticks! Forks were at the table, and while I didn't ask, I think they will provide them if you do. Because teppan is often sliced in pieces, it's always easier to eat with chopsticks. The best Hibachi experience I have had, the staff was so nice and friendly. We went for our two year olds birthday and they treated her so kindly. The food was really good, they did everything you expect from hibachi with all the tricks and fire. We got steak and chicken, comes with A LOT of food for a very decent price, no body finished their plates, we also added the yellowtail with yuzi and it was so good and fresh. Kisho is one of my families's favorite restaurants. It is a family tradition of ours to come here for every Christmas Eve. This place is also really fun for birthdays. The ambience is great for date night or special occasion! Service is always super friendly and quick. We sat at the hibachi table where a chef cooked all our food in front of us, however, they also have a sushi bar side of the restaurant. That said, you can still order sushi and they'll bring it to you on the hibachi side if you order any. Highly recommend! read more

It's been two years since I gave Kisho a 1-star review and I feel bad because we've been going there almost every week for about a year. It was never about the food but about always making us wait 20 mins when only a few tables were occupied. My kids insisted we give them another chance and now we only wait if they don't have a table. The servers are wonderful! The sushi is awesome, as it always was. We love Ken Special, Dragonfly, Spicy Tuna Rice Crispy and Dragon Roll. But every roll we have is fantastic. Kisho is honestly a great place to check out especially for lunch as the lunch special is a great deal! As an appetizer, I ordered the salmon sashimi which was good. The meals come with a soup and salad which were both nice as well. For the main course, I had grilled chicken, lobster, steak, and shrimp which were all delicious. It came with fried rice and grilled mushrooms and zucchini which were also good. We came in with a reservation which I made same day and our food was served very quickly as well for a place where they cook right in front of you. The food lacked flavor and most of the meat and poultry was over cooked. The cook gave people the wrong food on their plates , didn't offer to fix it and then the waitress then overcharged two credit cards and when we mentioned the over charge they claimed they forgot the drinks and we had to start all over. For a hibachi restaurant in SCV, Kisho exceeded all my expectations. Came for a birthday celebration and a group of 15 can share a little section but with two seperate grills/chefs. The portions of seafood and steak given in every entree were super filling and cooked well. Scallops were tender. Def recommend the jumbo shrimp as I noticed they give a decent amount! Everything is well seasoned. Fried rice is standard. They give 3 grilled shrimp to everyone as an app. They take reservations only one day in advance. Recommend calling ASAP the day before your desired reservation. Attentive service. Allowed us to bring our own wine and bday cake. read more

My SO took me here for Valentine's Day lunch. We were seated right away and had the grill for our selves. It wasn't busy but I have noticed that as the time pass by, people are in and out. But still plenty of grill tables that are unoccupied. My SO and I ordered the combination. It comes with salad, soup, shrimp appetizer, vegetables and fried rice. I had the Steak and Calamari while my SO got the Steak and Sea Bass. We got each a mug of Kirin beer as well. Customer service is up to par. No complaints about that. Martin is our chef. It was a sunny Saturday afternoon and we had a reservation to eat at the Teppan for lunch, tried to get the time a little later but they said they were all booked until 8pm. So opted for the 2pm slot and turned it from dinner to lunch to celebrate my nephews birthday! If you plan on doing the Teppan it sits 8 people for your party, we had 7 so we had enough to enjoy being at one table. And make a reservation as I don't think they accept walk ins anymore as it seemed like they only had two chefs on hand. They also have a sushi bar in the other section of the restaurant so I believe you could just walk in for just that. But if your party wants Teppan they let you order sushi and will bring it out to your freshly made from the sushi bar. It's been a while since I've come here but I did notice the menu has changed up a bit, you now get a soup or salad where before it was both. And they no longer give you the shrimp appetizer when they make your food. It's strictly just what you order with side of veggies. They have meat options as well as seafood and they have a vegetarian section too. I don't really like tofu so I wasn't feeling the veg items since both options came with it so I asked the waitress if I could just get the Teppan veggies on the side with white rice. I also ended up getting it as a lunch special so I got the salad as the miso soup was a meat based broth. They also carry gluten free soy sauce which I was able to get on my veggies, which the chef used for the whole table. Our chef Enrique was very good, interactive, made sure the allergy preference was met and had our food fresh and hot as we sat and enjoyed the show.. and when I say show he made an onion volcano light up and then move across the Teppan. He also made an I heart U out of the fried rice. The waitress we had, didn't catch her name but she went above and beyond for the table, I really appreciate that she went in the back to make sure they had gluten free as well as gave me options for having an allergy. They really take care of you here and make sure you're getting what you ordered and how you like everything to be cooked. Once you're all done they'll ask if you want any dessert. If you checkin with Yelp you get a free sweet treat, but I didn't end up redeeming it this time, so I'm not sure what my options would have been. I'll have to redeem it next time. read more

I tried to place a takeout order for sushi and the person over the phone responded by saying they are not taking any take-out orders because they are too busy because of the holiday. He did say if you walk in, there is no wait for the sushi bar. Well, how does that make sense? If you have no wait for the sushi bar, then why are you not able to fulfill my takeout sushi order? My main complaint is that we were celebrating a birthday, and although the chef wished our father "happy birthday" before leaving the grill, the staff did not provide any dessert or sing to him, like we observed with the other birthday customers.
