Madison Roll on the left, drizzled with sweet mango sauce, but you can ask for without. Rainbow Roll on the right. So delicious!

Yamato is always one of my favorite places to eat when in Pella, never have had a bad experience in 2 years of eating here usually a couple times a month! The waiters and waitresses are always so kind and go above and beyond to make sure all of your needs are met! The food is always great, dining in and to go. The Ambiance is one of my favorites in a restaurant, not too bright but not too dark either, its a beautiful aesthetic with some nice art as well.

My first impression and experience was great!! Small Japanese restaurant on the edge of Pella. I think Yamato is a great Japanese restaurant for the community. I had the Dinosaur Roll and a side of Miso soup. This roll had Soft shell crab, tempura, topped with eel, avocado & eel sauce. Came out delicious, crunchy, hot & fresh. The miso soup was awesome. It had a really great flavor! Not like other restaurants where they make theirs bland. My friend had a couple California rolls and soup as well. Both came to $34.xx after gratuity. Service was efficient and nice. Nothing spectacular but they served well and without interruption. Visited during Thursday night dinner hour. Environment was packed and busy. There were a couple families waiting for tables while we visited. It shows that the locals definitely love this restaurant and keep them busy. The restaurant was minimal in decor and had maybe 10 tables that seat 4 people each. Noticed many to go orders being picked up. Overall all I recommend Yamato! My friend who lives locally loves this restaurant and visits often.

Altoona, IA. 10/31/2020 3:27AM Yelp wants me to seek out and support black owned businesses. Um, No. I use Yelp for 2 main reasons. 1. To find the best places to eat, regardless of what race the owner is. I don't care what race the owner is. I only care if the food is good. If you're plaid and you serve good food, I'll visit. If you're plaid and your food sucks, I won't. I reward good food, regardless of race. 2. I like to write and Yelp gives me a platform to do just that even though their 5,000 character limit is bullshit. Yelp kept asking me to review Yamato. I blew it off every time because I had no clue what Yamato was, till I finally looked it up. "Well I'll be a son of a bitch. I did eat there" and Yelp knows this because I checked in using the app. This, one would think, would not be a good sign for Yamato. Yamato is a sushi restaurant in Pella, Ia, hidden in a strip mall adjacent to WalMart. If you're not looking for it, you're not gonna see it. Fortunately for them, you're going to seek it out because other than the surprise onion bit, with teeth, in the bowl of soup, it was surprisingly good. The Lobster Rangoon was wonderful as were the spring rolls. I wasn't aware that I got soup with my order but it came out with the appetizers. Im not even sure what kind it was, maybe Miso. At first I thought the white floater was possibly a baby shrimp, fetus sized. It looked like it was once alive and had been sacrificed for my enjoyment. Fishing it out and placing it on the table I asked the waiter "What is this" He replied "Its Onion" and it did it without hesitation which put me at ease. Had he had to think about it, even if for a moment, it would not have gone well. I finished the soup regardless because it was delicious. The Green Dragon Roll and Volcano Roll were very good. One had a delayed spicy reaction which was addicting and I can't remember which it was which just means that ill have to order both again the next time I go. The staff was exceptionally nice. They did wear mask which doesn't really matter to me but Im sure that it will bring comfort to many people during these days of tribulation. Sorry Yamato that I forgot about you. You are well worth the trip.

Waitress was rude and bossy, told her my drink order 3 times. Clear soup and edamame was good. Got 4 sushi rolls, dinosaur, spicy girl, amazing and one other. Sushi was ok, nothing fantastic.

    Teriyaki salmon Bento box

I ordered the Bento box teriyaki salmon. This was very good I enjoyed it and the soup was also pretty good. Atmosphere OK service OK. Will definitely come back again and try other things.

My husband and I waiting to be served.

We set out to have a quaint, one day escape to check-out the Pella town square. The hotel has a wonderful location that walks out to great shops and modern eateries. Having worked in the hospitality industry for more than ten years, my number one expectation is good service. The Royal Amsterdam went over and beyond! Our check-in was personable, smooth and left us with no questions. Lucia checked us in and made us feel right at home. Our package included wine, chocolates, flowers, movie tickets and a gift certificate to the restaurant. The wine, chocolates, and flowers were waiting for us in the room and the rest was waiting for us at the front desk when we were ready to use them. The sparkling wine was delicious and the chocolates were local, which I loved! Our room was clean and quiet. The rooms aren't the most modern, but that's the feel of the whole hotel: historical charm. We had a microwave and mini-fridge, as well as a Jacuzzi tub and a large shower, as well as access to underground (heated) parking. We ate in the restaurant for dinner. It was more casual than we expected, but the food was home-style and delicious! We ordered the mussels for an appetizer. They were a little small in size, but tasted great. We both ordered steak and it was done perfectly. The side dishes were amazing (even after being reheated later the next day). They don't have a wine list, but do offer several varietals by the glass. Overall, I am extremely pleased with the Royal Amsterdam. We were looking for a quaint, historical setting where we could easily explore the area and have a relaxing weekend and found all of that here. The staff was incredible and accommodating in every way. One of the front desk ladies even went out of her way to find us some ibuprofen despite the fact that there wasn't actually a pantry! I give two thumbs up!

Right off the bat, it wasn't very welcoming no one was even at the host stand and the manager was just talking to someone at the bar and didn't acknowledge us right away. It was also veryyy empty in there. anyway,, we order from the lunch specials because it's lunch time and MIND U WE ARENT FROM PELLA OR HAVE BEEN TO THIS RESTAURANT so we didn't realize these specials weren't available so when we get our food it's just extremely underwhelming we thought we were getting beans and rice w our quesadilla but nope just a SINGULAR quesadilla with nothing else, also it wasn't even a quesadilla it's a taco as u can see from the picture. I explained to them we wanted beans and rice like the menu item states and he just told me to read the menu. U want me to read the little fine print under the HUGE letter written "LUNCH SPECIALS"?? That was just plain rude. I tried one bite (u can see the bite I took in the picture) and i didn't like it and i already was pretty put off bc it wasn't what i had thought i ordered. So I politely asked them to just take it off the check bc i am not going to eat it. I also just didn't wanna spend any of my money here atp bc of the way we were treated. This grown man started to argue w me telling me i have to pay for it bc of the tiny little bite that i took! I wasn't going to be bullied like this so I stood my ground and he wanted to know why I wasn't going to eat it and I said well it's not rly what I ordered and it doesn't taste good. IT WAS LITERALLY THE SMALLEST AMOUNT OF CHEESE AND WAYYYY TO MUCH CHICKEN that had no flavor and extremely chewy. his response to me not liking it was "oh easy for u to say" and well he's right it was easy for me to say. I have never left a bad review somewhere in my life but I really felt the need to write this all out bc it was so rude and upsetting. And the queso was $10... (u can also see in the photo it's not a large amount of queso) I'm sure there are better workers than the two I experienced but either way this is who they have working there so I highly suggest skipping this place. Our server also couldn't answer anything on his own he has to ask his manager like every single thing? Weird. Oh they did give me the refund but I had to push for it which is RIDICULOUS. Learn how to treat ur customers and train ur employees better!

So we sat down and waited for our waitress for a moment and she appeared to be very overworked and not enough help. One waitress was trying to bartend, greet, and help deliver food from the kitchen all at the same time. Everyone was friendly and our waitress kept checking on us a couple times, just doesn't have enough help. The food was great, no complaints, just could have been a bit warmer. The wait is always terrible at Applebees. We usually wait always at least 25 mins for our food, And it was not busy. The Ambiance was okay, Just pretty dark, good natural light though! The Window sills were dirty and the bathrooms needed some better cleaning, but nothing too bad. The Music was very intrusive and needs to be turned down, coming from a music lover!

She proceeded to walk around and look at different tables. It wasn't that busy, but all the empty tables were still dirty with dishes on them. She went around looking for someone to clean tables. Which I don't know why she couldn't clean up a table really quick herself. She went back toward the restrooms, then started circling to find someone to clean tables. She could have clean several tables in that time. Finally a gal came to us and apologized for the wait because she was in the bathroom. We didn't need to know that. But she did clean a table for us to sit at. After sitting there for about 15 minutes, we left. That is the second time in about a year we have left because the service was so bad and slow. As far as the gal that seated us, she told at least 2 other groups that she had been in the bathroom. NOBODY WANTS TO KNOW THAT! When she was in there, maybe she could have washed the fresh-looking tomato sauce stain off her shirt.
