The same as it has always been. Very good. Steaks are cooked perfectly to order. The shrimp was slightly overdone though.

Ample parking. Last night for dinner, there were only 3 tables eating. Because of review recommendations, we tried this restaurant. The mango salad was not good. The mango was not sweet and had brown color on some of it and it had been fresh but then frozen. It was still frozen when served on the cabbage. The sauce was a fake mango syrup- yuck! The exterior is kinda sad and inside is too. It could use a facelift. Bathrooms were just ok and cleanliness matched the appearance of everything else. Fried Appetizer sampler was ok with the brown sauce. Pinkish red sauce was watery. Mango sushi roll was ok but keep in mind it's all fake crab stick. Rolls were filled with avocado and many rolls on the menu have avocado but the rolls my husband ordered tasted strange. It was either bad wasabi or avocado. Cozy and comfortable - good for couples, small families/groups. We were quickly seated and our server appeared almost immediately. We ordered the crazy plate appetizer which provided a good sampling of lobster Rangoon, gyoza, mini spring rolls and shumai. They were all really good! The onion soup was good as well as the mango salad. That was really refreshing on a hot Texas day! Entrees were steak and chicken hibachi, shrimp and scallops both served with vegetables and fried rice. Truly delicious! The staff was friendly and helpful. What a Gem!! As an out of Towner coming for dinner I was recommended to stop by for dinner and wow was it a treat. The miso soup was good, the Hibachi chicken and steak/ Shrimp was perfect. Superman roll was really good too. Alot of food for the price. Would truly come back again. read more

Efficient service, delicious food, just traveling through town and happily surprised to find good Japanese bento box in east Texas

So the food was a mixed bag here. My expectations were a little higher than they should have been especially when the filet and shrimp hibachi combo was $19.99. I'll try to review items individually. Edamame: B. - It wasn't great but it was good. It started us on a good footing. Yellowtail Jalapeño Sashimi app: C+ - It wasn't yellowtail but fresh enough and good enough. Taking Soba Chicken : C+ - chicken was meh but edible, noodles were pretty good. Texture and flavor was good Filet & Shrimp Hibachi: F - The steak was inedible. The texture was off almost gritty, it was not filet. At least not beef filet. The shrimp was kind of fishy but I asked for some ginger sauce and dipping that worked to make it ok. The fried rice needed help too. Thank you ginger sauce. The ginger sauce saved it enough for me to eat the shrimp and rice otherwise I would have left hungry. The staff was nice but the quality is lacking. I understand, small town but it isn't a 4 or 5 star outing. Admittedly prices are lower to reflect. read more

Believe it or not, there actually IS good sushi in (of all places) Athens, TX. Just outside downtown Athens is Yamato, decorated with the usual "Grand Opening" colored flags. But don't let that fool you, it's a real, Japanese-run sushi restaurant with fresh sashimi, sushi rolls, tempura and other Japanese delicacies, as well as some American dishes in order to please everyone. Surprise !! Fresh Sushi & Japanese food, in Athens Texas... I had the Teryaki chicken lunch & my friend had a steak bento box. The chicken dish was excellent, chicken was flavorful from being grilled, a plentiful portion of meat & fresh veggies. My friend's steak was fork tender & had the same grilled flavor as my chicken. The bento box came with a mini spring roll, fried dumpling, California roll, steak w a lot of veggies & rice. Their fried rice is just plain, no veggies at all but is a good portion size. I didn't care for the mini spring rolls, the only thing I thought was frozen food. The interior was trendy & clean. The service was exceptional, quick service, drink refills & check dropped timely. I will definitely be back & recommend. No, it's not Nobu or Shensei in Dallas, but it's great for Athens! read more

The food is amazing, but if you eat inside be prepared for terrible service. They weren't busy. It was just our party of 7 and a couple inside eating. They had 3 waitresses, but the service was horrible. They brought out 3 of our seven drinks, then, 20 min. later they came out from the back to take our order. We reminded them about the drinks and they went and got them. Then, one person's food came out at a time. So, we were all either waiting to eat or eating at different times. Let me just say, the food tasted amazing, however they forgot avocado on two of the sushi rolls we ordered. If you're going to eat here just get take out! read more

Wanted hibachi, but wanted local. Went here to try and wasn't disappointed! Prices were just right and the food was generous portions and YUMMY! I didn't love the yum yum sauce but we will for sure be back! Soup & salad and hibachi chicken shrimp were delicious! read more

I wish I had known about this place sooner! We've picked up to-go twice in the past week and both times it was fantastic. Absolutely loved the sushi and the hibachi filet mignon was also very good! My daughter really enjoyed the chicken teriyaki. Weekly lunch specials are very reasonable. read more

Dont recommend the fried rice. I have had lots of fried rice at other hibachi restaurants and this one tasted strange compared to the rest of them. Not sure what spices they are using but all four of us didnt like it. Everything else we had was really good. Hoping it was just an off day for the fried rice. read more
