Drove thirty minutes out, waited forever in the drive thru line only to be disappointed, spent money on 1 large soda only for it to be flat, asked for a different option and we were told by the employee that all of the sodas were flat, we ask for sweet tea and we were clearly given unsweet watered down tea, we watch the employee ask her co workers if they knew how to fix the sodas and they just shrugged at her. When she gave us the food all of our sides were turned on their sides, we get home and we realize that our 12 piece mix is all DARK meat and burnt, not sure what the point of the employee making us recite our entire order to her was if they were still going to get it wrong. I ordered five meals. Three meals were wrong, one meal was correct and one meal was missing. I returned to get it corrected and ask for the manager. She took no responsibility for her employs and made excuses for the mess up and implied that one of the wrong meals was correct. I DO NOT recommend this place and WILL NOT return. Ate here when passing through Athens, Tx. and was surprised just how good it was! The fried chicken is some of the best I've ever had and the fish is very well seasoned! This has one of the best chicken fried steaks in Texas, if you know how to order. Tell the COOK, not the counter help, you want it extra crispy. Make sure she gets the message and prepares yours from scratch. CFS is the special on Thursdays and those will not be cooked to order. The CFS here is NOT the same gristly cutlet that draws up and gets thicker as it's cooked. It is a tenderized piece of meat that stays thin when cooked. Even extra crispy it will still be tender enough to be cut with plastic cutlery. Cooking it extra crispy means the breading will be crispy all the way through and will stick to the meat when cut. Try it. You won't be sorry. Today the owner told me he buys cube steak from the local Save-A-Lot and uses a different flour mixture than used on the chicken for breading. It works! read more

The worst chicken I have ever had. There was literally NO seasoning NO flavor other than salt. The fact that it was warm didn't help either. The fries are waffle cut. They were ok. They were about as warm as the chicken. The rolls were hard and seemed old. The honey butter biscuit had that been in the freezer too long taste and it was stuffed in the bag with the rolls and was a crumbly mess. The best thing about this place was the fried okra. I guess it was the best because they cooked them while we waited. They were seasoned well and fresh. The okra is the only reason I gave them 2 stars. If I were to return, it would be for the okra and the okra alone. Ohh almost forgot to mention the ketchup packets. The ketchup was awful. I'm not sure where they get the packets from but it's below the bottom. read more

Just ate at the one in Athens. Great service, very friendly. Fish was awesome--very fresh and flavorful. Hush puppies were some of the best I've had. Chicken was a bit greasy for my taste but well seasoned and good. I had the Cajun rice which was pretty spicy. read more

This is one of the best chicken locations I have eaten in during the past fifty years. Friendly service at the counter, and wonderful large chicken portions, with gigantic rolls. They have daily specials, and the food is so much better than that served by national chicken chains. This place blows Chicken Express any of the other places like it out of the water. The food is cooked fresh and never frozen. The sides are so good. I recommend the green beans, okra, bread and corn fritters. They have baked chicken and fish along with the traditional fried goods. You get a lot of food in each meal. Also, the owner is a philanthropist and is always willing to help those in needs. It's a great place to eat and a great place to support because of the outreach it has in the community. read more

My wife went there for lunch today. Sign on window advertised a 2 pc dark, 2 sides, and a roll for $4.00. She ordered it and it was almost $7. She mentioned it to the manager and he said it only applied if you ordered mashed potatoes and cole slaw as your sides. She stated that the sign did not mention that and his reply was, " That's what is in the picture". Terrible service and misleading advertising. Visited here for lunch today. WOW ! Got 2 fish fillets, a drum stick, 2 chicken livers and 2 gizzards with a large tea. Total was only about $8. The fish and drumstick were cooked perfectly. Crunchy cornmeal on the fish and crisp flour batter on the chicken. The chicken livers were cooked just right. No pink in the center but still creamy almost like butter. Gizzards were, well gizzards. You gotta love em to love em. Really impressed and will visit next time in Athens. read more
