My family and I were searching for some barbecue and came across yankee smokehouse, I had the pulled pork sandwich which was amazing tender and sweet delicious. My wife had the brisket and my oldest son had the baby back ribs and brisket combo. Both said the food absolutely amazing. The yankee smokehouse has lots of old pictures hanging on the walls my little one was so interested I took pictures of them. Expensive menu and subpar meat but that's not the issue. The place was completely littered with flies all over the dining area. The staff was capturing them on the ceiling with cups of something. There were so many flies landing everywhere we had to leave. If that's the dining area I wonder what the kitchen situation is. Would never go back to that environment. read more

Thought we'd give it a go as a change from Hobbs. The meat was dry and tasted like armpits unless doused in their overly sweet sauce.

There was a time, when I lived in NH about 10-15 years ago, when I visited the Yankee Smokehouse, at least once a month. I was in the area yesterday and stopped in for lunch. My review of my recent Yankee Smokehouse visit, doesn't really need many words. The words are: Disgusting. Awful. Inedible. Over-priced. It's not even a "BBQ Joint" any more, it's a BBQ & Pizza House ... what? Yep, that's what the sign and menu says. I'll be my bottom dollar, the Yankee Smokehouse was sold to a new owner, who decided they knew way more than the original owner and was going to turn it into a "real business". FAIL. When you walk in, you might think it's a "sports bar" ... I guess that's what the front of the house is supposed to be, with (3) over-sized TV. Unfortunately, they were all tuned to afternoon soap operas. Oh well, maybe there are good bartenders? Nah, they're too busy doing whatever, to pay any attention to the customers at that bar. Of course, there were 2 of us at the bar, so I could see how the bartenders could be overwhelmed. The bar/lunch menu, only had about 4 items on it, none of it BBQ. I had what was billed as a "prime rib sandwich". To suggest it was inedible, is over-stating the facts. It looked and tasted, disgusting. $14.95 for an inedible sandwich ... although, I'll admit the steakhouse fries were properly cooked and hot. Don't wast your time or money, nor risk your stomach, on the Yankee Smokehouse. It's not what it used to be, back when they sold "No Pig Before its Time". read more

Maybe the rain was not so bad after all. We stopped in for dinner on Wednesday night due to the rain storm that rolled in. The original plan was to BBQ bacon cheese burgers at our campsite but after the torrent of rain began we knew it was not going to happen for our Dads & Daughters camping trip. The short ribs were tasty, the beans and slaw were good but what we really enjoyed was our server, Lisa. She was kind, on point with service, and never let my numerous Arnold Palmer's go dry. It's nice to have a server that cares about one's experience and can socialize when wanted without letting service go. Sadly, we are only up there 1-2 times a year but I would definitely inquire to see if Lisa is available again to be our server. I was introduced to this place by a friend who has a house up on Lake Winni. This was a great experience. The service was quick and friendly, the place was clean inside and had been remodeled since the last time I had been here. The food is great, the best BBQ I've had outside Boston. The brisket is my favorite, always tender. The chicken, pork ribs, and sandwiches are all great. If burgers are your thing, they are enormous, 1/2 pounders, the black and blue is my favorite and comes with bacon and blue cheese. There's also a 1 pound burger called Porky's revenge for those who like to clog the arteries in one sit down meal. There are combos where you can try all the meats in one basket and also on my last trip they have opened a pizza place inside with all the meats available on top of a pie. The sides are typical smokehouse fare and include cornbread, baked beans, corn on the cob and chili. . All are just as good as the meats. If you have someone with you that doesn't eat heavy, they also have salads, veggie burgers,and chicken and haddock fillets. All in all, it's a great place to take advantage of if your in the area. I give up. I can't find a decent bbq joint in the Lakes Region. First Rubbin' Butts in Center Harbor, and now this place. Both have THE blandest food. The size portions of sides are a huge joke. Moved up here 2 years ago and we always drive by saying we oughta try that place.well tonight we finally did & I'm so glad, I got seafood stuffed mushrooms & scallops wrapped in bacon , coleslaw & a diet coke, my husband got steak tip dinner and a mt. Dew. We walked in and were warmly greeted.Our waitress Lisa came right away. The wait for our food wasn't long at all, the food was so hot and cooked perfectly! The only thing I thought needs addressing is the coleslaw it was dry and no flavor, but maybe it just wasn't stirred before it was plated, but other than that the food was great! As a kid I hated coming here because it's a smokehouse, which means ribs and chili. Messy food. Now I love stopping by when I'm in the area because it means I can pick up a quart of their chili to bring home and freeze - big chunks of their delicious pork, beans, corn, and loads of spices. Everything I once hated about it as a kid I now love about it as an adult. I stick to their chicken fingers now if we eat in, but my husband is partial to their smoked meats - and their ribs are always outstanding. My family and I drove by this place so many times and were surprised that the parking lot was pretty full each time we saw it. As pescetarians, who eat primarily as vegetarians, the idea of a smokehouse for dinner wasn't too appealing, but we were hungry and curious about its obvious popularity. The restaurant was full, but we were still seated immediately and served in a reasonable amount of time. I was knocked out by how fresh the side vegetables were and the salmon was really beautifully prepared. My family members each enjoyed their dishes too. LOVE THIS PLACE! You know it's nice to have a giant pig atop your building and it's a perfect location. However I just don't think the quality is there like it once was. I ordered a Rueben sandwich recently and my son a rack of ribs. The sides were super small, beans essentially in a ketchup cup, cole slaw the same and to be blunt the sandwich was burnt, I'm not sure how you burn a Rueben but they did. The ribs were very fatty and a bit dry as well. I think something has been lost here. Maybe it's too much a tourist spot now, maybe they have different management and he the food from a different place. I've never been one to complain about price because when it comes to BBQ it takes a long time to cook and it's usually justified. Low quality food however isn't. So you can judge for yourself, but I think I'm done here at this point. We'd been looking for some Q since heading north for the summer. While not the best I've had it was good and the portions were ample. I highly recommend the smoked chicken. That was stellar. The ribs were good, and the sweet potato fries really hit the spot. The brisket was the only weak link. It lacked good smokiness or really flavor for that matter, was still a bit chewy, and watery. It's not often that you work in a restaurant and continue to eat there years to come. This was one of my first jobs over twenty years ago and I've been eating here my entire life (before and after). Their bbq sauce is fantastic and I love the pulled pork sandwiches, chicken fingers and no order would be complete without garlic bread. The owner Joe is an all around great guy.
