Date night and wanted to try something new! Heard this place was yummy so we made reservations for a Friday night. The staff and service was very good. We wanted to try everything! So we order appetizers "Yanni's special' or favorite? Can't remember but it had flat bread with olives, goat cheese, feta cheese and salami! Wowza so good!! But it was large so it could have been a meal. We ordered drinks and entrees I had Roasted Lamb and hubby had Greek Ribs. I would definitely order mine again!! My hubby liked the ribs but didn't care for the cucumber salad mix. We got a pastry with lemon curd. It was meh! Needed some raspberries or something tart with it. Probably wouldn't order that again. Tried for first time. Table of four and we ordered the taste of Greece. Wow! We had to pull up a chair to put all the dishes on while eating! Everything was great and fantastic with three boxes to take home. The food and drinks were great and service was prompt.... All the dishes were served within ten minutes. read more

I really, really wanted this place to be good. I love greek food and was very excited to have somewhere minutes from my home. We came in for lunch today around 1245. We were seated immediately and given some time to look over the menu. Lunch prices seemed reasonable. I ordered a gyro and my wife some soup. We waited over 45 minutes for our food to arrive, never once being visited by the server or having our waters refilled. Something must have happened in the kitchen, because once our food came out everyone else that had been seated 20 or more minutes after us received their food just minutes after us. One older gentleman had a meltdown he had waited so long. Said he'd been coming there weekly and he'd never be back. I ordered my gyro with no onions, but it arrived with onions. The fries were soggy. The paltry amount of meat (3 thin slices of lamb) was extremely disappointing, especially given the wait time. My wife's soup seemed nice, she enjoyed it. She said it was very hot, which leads me to believe it may have been microwaved. We were shocked it didn't come with a little pita on the side, with the relatively small "bowl" portion. I may give this place a second chance, but with so many options for good lunch I have a hard time wanting to take a chance and be disappointed again. I regret to leave a one star review, because I know how damaging that can be to a business, but our experience truly warranted it. read more

The site is on the property of Shilo Motel off of Franklin in Nampa. The place smelt yummy as we waited to be seated. The service was great considering it was one guy busting his butt to keep up with about 25 customers. My wife and I ordered the Greek Feast which include the Greek salad (please note a lot of bell peppers), the fried calamari (which was a little chewy, need another minute or so in fryer), the tzatziki sauce was tasty with the warm pita bread and the chicken and beef kabobs were flavorful. There needs to be a little more attention to food (cooking time and equal amounts of vegetables in the salad) it is a little nit picking but that is what makes this review a four and not a five start review!! This was my first visit to Yanni's and I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the experience. You never really know what the experience will be with a new restaurant but you could tell just by the aromas that greet you as you walk into the building and take a look at the calming decor you know you are possibly in for a good meal. I had the surf and turf. The beef kabob tasted like it was wood fired and savory. The cucumber salad side dish was amazing and very fresh looking and tasting as was the grilled prawns. There was another side item I think was a lemon potato which was a different presentation than I am used to but I was tempted to ask for an order to go of it. Fried calamari wings can be hit or miss and sometimes too greasy but this appetizer was highly battered like I love them to be and crispy. The alcohol license process is not closed yet but to be honest I didn't miss it at all. To top it off the wait staff, GM and Chef were all personable and made you feel totally at home. A Greek restaurant in Canyon County! The restaurant is a clean, well maintained facility with comfortable seating and plenty of room. No blaring sports bar music; quiet with white tablecloths tastefully adorned for a fine dining experience, dress code optional. Service is personal, knowledgeable, and friendly. There is a good selection of Greek and Italian entrees and lots of tasty appetizers to choose from. We ordered the fried calamari and it was delicious, tender, lightly breaded, but not oily or dark. It came with Tzatziki (yogurt based) sauce and the kitchen accommodated our request for a marinara sauce as well for a small charge. For entrees we ordered the Souvlaki (skewered seasoned shrimp and lamb). It was served with more Tzatziki sauce and came with a Greek salad (bell pepper, red onion, green olives, cucumber, feta cheese) with a light coating of vinegrette. I liked the taste, and the quality of the ingredients was superior but the texture may be too chunky for some. Other sides were a half lemony potato and seasoned rice. The grilled lamb had a slight char and tasted good. It was cooked medium well (no choice was offered) but was not overdone. The shrimp was coated with Greek seasoning. The only complaint we have from a culinary point of view, is that the taste of lemon was prevalent in every component except the calamari and lamb. Prices are moderately expensive but there are smaller and less expensive lunch portions available all day. But check this place out; we have an ethnic Greek restaurant in Nampa. read more

Second is that is funny how people leaving bad responses think they are food critics and that they have any true etiquette or food experiences for criticizing food. I wish I could leave them a personal message. But, yelp will not let me. I know the restaurant has closed but the food truck is now active and I hope for the best for them in the road ahead. A message to them I have is don't cater to Idaho taste buds because I have taken advice from the locals that jalepenos and chapala are good. "Terrible food" also, your price point is a bit high. Quit charging like you are in CA or something. We don't make the same amount of money as where you may have came from. One more thing stop putting fries on the gyro. I've been a gyro fanatic since I was a kid and I am 50 now. You are the only green spot that has put fries on a gyro. Probably because all the potato eaters here in Idaho. read more

This is what they are calling the Greek feast. I got Greek feast pita plate and a desert. That was $77.00! I was told it would feed 3 people. The "Feast" came with 1 skewer of chicken and 1 skewer of beef. Unseasoned rice and a potato. It came with microwaved calamari. We went here because my wife notice some people saying it was good. I definitley don't feel like I received 77 dollars in food. I could see maybe 40-45 for this. Needs to be more meat skewers if it's going to be a feast and claim to feed 3. We made reservations a week ahead to bring a group, ended up with fifteen in the main dining room. Although Amanda (co-owner with chef Yanni) was very helpful in offering a private room, where we sat was very pleasant, lots of windows, a cute blue and white and light wood decor with a row of booths each seating up to six around the edges. White tablecloths and napkins, flowers on the tables, blue glassware and at the entrance a hand painted mural of a greek town. This place has been so many different restaurants, but always had a tired feel till now. We arrived just before opening, they sat us quickly but held off on getting menus. Turned out they had a take out order for 16 Gyro's. It gave us a chance to socialize and discuss the menu, which has a special section for lunch in addition to the appetizers, soups and salads and entrees, several with lamb and shrimp. I had the Mediterranean Pesto shrimp with Linguini in a cream sauce with sliced sun dried tomatoes, a nice combination. Had a chance to talk to several of our guests afterwards, they want to come back again soon. By the way, the loaded Idaho fries entree was my other choice, it looked good as they do fresh cut fries. I understand this is a fairly new restaurant. I was very excited to try this place, the service people are awesome. when going thru the menu its obvious they are presenting themseves as high end gourmet quality food. I hate to say it but the chef is anything close to a trained chef of this caliber. I went there the first time had the lamb, and made sure the server understood, for me lamb needed to be rare/medium rare. Im sorry to say my meal came with 5 very small bites of meat on a skewer, and cooked very well done. I thought I would give them one more try, and explore the menu further, I tried the chicken peppercorn, again meal came and the chicken came luke warm at best, it was as tough and dry as shoe leather, obviously not fresh, pre cooked and reheated. Very disappointed to have spent $100 total in two visits for a good greek salad and a good lemon potato half. The menu is very enticing with highend pricing. I wish them luck, but if they wish to flourish as a highend restaurant, more like Brick 29, I think they have a lot of issues to think about, and iron out. read more

My husband, a friend and I ate at Yani's last night, and it was a wonderful experience -- the food, the service, and the warm reception we received from Amanda and Yani (the married couple that owns the restaurant). My husband ordered the lamb souvlaki, our friend ordered the pesto linguini, I ordered the surf and turf souvlaki, and we had an order of dolmades as an appetizer. Accommodations were graciously made for my celiac disease. All three of us were very happy with our meals. One tiny mistake was made when our server brought me the beef souvlaki rather than the surf and turf. I told him it was perfectly fine, and he didn't need to do anything about it. Nonetheless, he brought me a whole separate plate with a skewer of prawns over rice. And, of course, they did not charge us for that. We will definitely be spreading the word among our friends, and we will definitely be back! read more

Nampa has been needing a new sweet place to dine, and I love that it is authentic Greek cuisine at Yannis at Shilo Inn off I84 at Franklin exit. We had family visiting, recently returned from Italy. Dad saw the 'Taste of Greece' on the menu when we came for lunch, asked the waiter about it, and decided we would be back for evening service. Waiter Landon took excellent care of us and Yanni wowwed us with this spread. Platters of deliciousness served family style was so fun and cozy! We started with a stunning Greek salad drizzled with a dressing that is haunting me, didn't get a photo before it was devoured. All of the fresh flavors with herb crusted and marinated beef, shrimp and chicken souvlaki (skewers), crisp calamari, melt-in-your-mouth roast lamb, half rack of Greek pork ribs, spanakopita (spinach in phyllo) and tiropita (cheese triangles), dolmades (savory rice and meat in grape leaves) in a heavenly avgolemono sauce, rice, lemon potatoes, hummus, tzatiki and pita. All the flavors, textures, herbs and colors complimented each other for a memorable family feast. And now we know, from the 'Taste of Greece' what we will order on our next visit! The food was GREAT! This time we ordered Greek nachos, a special (on the "secret" menu) for about $18 that filled both of us up. Very good. The owner visited with us for a few minutes, which was nice. Server Dominik (?) was friendly, prompt, knowledgeable and accurate. Last time we ordered gyro and hand-cut fries. We were impressed. Linen tablecloths and napkins added to the better-than-average ambiance. We are told that cheap seed oils are not allowed in this kitchen, only the really good olive oils and beef tallow. This is great as we are trying to stay away from unhealthy food, especially seed oils. Yanni's also offers a party room for larger parties and a karaoke bar. We had our first try at Yanni's and were impressed! The atmosphere was classy and cozy with low lights, white tablecloths, ivy, and well-dressed servers. We were greeted by the friendly owner whose spouse is the chef, and our awesome server Dominic was just the right amount of attentive. Now the food: VERY tasty with delicious seasoning and large servings. I enjoyed Antonio's Pastitsio, a version of a Greek lasagna--bechamel, pasta, and very interestingly seasoned beef. It came with tasty rice, potato, some fresh cucumbers/tomatoes/veg on side, and a bowl of tzatziki sauce. And a plate of warm, fresh pitas--tasted homemade. My partner had lamb souvlaki with a nice char and seasoning, along with same rice and vegetables. We shared desserts: baklava, phyllo with custard. What I don't understand is all the five star ratings across this and other web sites. This is based on our dinner experience. They give you a liquor menu but don't have all the liquor they list on the menu, okay we chose something they did have. We wanted to order a Mezze sampler. Waiter comes back to tell us they don't have half of what's on the sampler but we can have some cabbage rolls (I'm not going to attempt the spelling of the actual name) and three little bowls of dipping items...too salty and looked like they had been sitting around. Dinner comes...The chicken skewers were dry as a bone, the rice had no flavor and needed salt ( not on the table) or something, the little salad was just a bunch of peppers and tomatoes and feta. Also ordered the flat bread with chicken..etc. It arrived burnt black with toppings. The waiter served it (why?). The waiter came back later and said he was removing it from our bill due to it being completely torched. All of the food left a weird taste in our mouths. On the plus side the waiter was attentive and continued to bring pita bread to the table. Overall it was one of the worst food experiences we've had and we have lived all over the country and been to other greek restaurants that were wonderful. If Yanni's continues on this path they won't be around for long. As the saying goes...you're only as strong as your weakest link and the weak link at Yanni's is the food coming out of the kitchen. Sorry Yanni's we will not be coming back nor would we recommend your restaurant. PS...You're correct and I realized it after I sent the post...it is stuffed grape leaves. As for the rest of your comments I read them as excuses. Your last plate of the night should come out the same as your first plate.
