We were celebrating retiring teachers and staff! The service was fabulous! Shout out to Hannah! I am 96.4% sure that is her name. Smiling, always around to take orders, make suggestions, clear plates, etc. I thought she was terrific. The drinks were great. The table where I sat raved about them. The food was yummy. I loved the caesar salad and the onion rings. The tacos and chips were the bomb as well. The cookie with ice cream dessert was an incredible surprise. The menu description did not do it justice. It was a large chocolate chip cookie cooked in a small cast iron skillet with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream on top. Scrumpdidlicious I can see Yard Bar & Grill as part of my new fun thrift store routine. Shop til I drop and then reward myself with a beverage and that fab cookie skillet ice cream thingy. My friend said he loved the smash burgers here but apparently that's only available during happy hours so I got the Morning Burger instead which has cheese, tatter tots, bacon, smoked ketchup, and a fried egg. The egg added so much savory flavor that I didn't have to add bbq sauce despite loving bbq sauce. The tatter tots were freshly fried and crispy. I loved this meal! Arriving on a Friday night during baseball playoffs and a busy restaurant, I was pleasantly surprised with how quickly and kindly we were assisted. Happy with their customer service first and foremost. I really enjoyed the onion petals. Think blooming onion meets onion rings. So yummy and such a satisfying crunch at every bite! The chicken d-lite wrap was also really good. Plenty of fresh flavors. Their sweet potato is actual pieces of sweet potato. I automatically thought sweet potato fries when I saw it on the menu but that was on me not to clarify. The waitress was also very helpful with ordering something kid friendly from their menu. My family and I decided to try this place downtown, which I've been wanting to visit for a while. We didn't have reservations, but we managed to get a table right away despite the crowded restaurant. After a day in Ojai hiking and sightseeing we stopped by here to have dinner, drinks and watch the Laker game. Very welcoming and friendly staff. The ambiance is great here, very nicely done. There is a bar in the middle, lots of big tv's on the walls. The food is also amazing. We ordered a few starters to munch on with our drinks. I absolutely love the nachos here. Best bar food I have had in a long time!!! Being gluten-free it's hard to eat in a bar. I was extremely happy to find out that the Yard Bar & Grill provided gluten-free bun options. I haven't had a burger this tasty in a long time. The bun was not your typical dry gluten-free bun, it tasted just like a regular bun. However, the best part of this entire meal was the french fries. The way they are cut and shaped and fried are perfect for dipping in their very tasty ranch and aïoli sauces. The staff at this restaurant are extremely helpful and nice and I can't wait to go back. So happy to have the Yard Bar & Grill now open in Ventura. I've always liked this space and thought the circular bar was cool so I was super happy that when the last spot didn't make it to see that a new bar and restaurant concept was coming in. The name, menu, and atmosphere fits downtown Ventura and is perfect for the little yard area next to iron & resin etc. A friend and I stumbled in for a late weeknight dinner and we were happy to see that the inside was almost pretty full. They have a nice round bar, plenty of tables and booths, plus some outdoor patio seating from what I could see sitting in the inside. The decor was cool, very Americana and patriotic. The restaurant and bathrooms were super clean, always a plus. Our server Gabby was a doll. Super sweet, helpful and attentive. She made our dining experience A+. She was checking in with us a good amount and when we had questions about cocktails and appetizers she was very friendly and helpful. It was nice to see that the restaurant was well staffed, everyone helped one another and the food came out pretty quick - but was hot and fresh. For cocktails we started with the Berry Buzzed and I would 100% get this again. Loved the blackberry flavor and the large lime garnish on top made for a pretty instagramable moment. They have a pretty extensive cocktail menu here. For food we decided to split a bunch of appetizers which was the way to go. Their appetizer menu here is pretty vast and I liked the more unique options. In downtown Ventura there are plenty of spots to get apps but at least here they do the classics well but also had some more unique ones. One of the more special ones were the fried artichoke hearts with a lemon aioli and these were fabulous. Crunchy and addicting. We loved them. We also got a side of French fries with all of the dipping sauces, because why not. And lastly we wrapped up with wings. The wings hit here and are some of the best in downtown Ventura. My friend and I are picky with wings and we really enjoyed these. We got half lemon parm and half elote (pretty cool flavor option) and they were both great. Love that they don't skip on the side sauces here either. Prices were reasonable given how big all of their appetizers portions were. A good value and an awesome spot to come with a crowd to watch a sports game or to just mingle and indulge in shareable bites. We didn't try any of their mains from the menu but everything looked/sounded pretty good. The yard bar and grill is worth a visit when you're in downtown Ventura next. Really cool space, with the restaurant side being visible from main street, and the speakeasy being visible from the back parking lot. It was funny because we struggled to find the restaurant when approaching the speakeasy, which has a beautiful outdoor seating area. I believe it's called The Hive. Theres one bathroom for both the speakeasy and the restaurant with only two stalls, so they were quite busy and one stall was out of toilet paper. We were seated immediately as a party of two on a Friday night around 8:30pm. Our server was friendly and attentive. Drinks and food came out pretty quickly. We ordered Ben's gravy fries which was delicious. The egg could've been cooked a little less. We both got the Morning Burger with tater tots which was a decent size and yummy. The food came with all of the sauces we asked for and we had everything we needed. For drinks we got an espresso martini with and without Bailey's ($1 upcharge), and Midtown Martinis. The hubby and I had a really nice lunch here today. The staff are friendly and I believe the owner came over and talked with us and wanted to make sure everything was good. The place is really nice, it has roll up front door panels, a nice speak easy in the back and outside seating on a great patio. Brought to you by the owner group of Cronies there's some creature comforts you'll remember and love like thirsty sauce, and schooners of beer but taken to a new elevated level! Think date night vs beers with the bros even though you can do both here. They've maximized the space with the main restaurant up front, a speak easy type bar in the back that was utilized as a storage room in the past and an outside seating area in the "yard"! Sophia our waitress was fantastic attentive and full of good energy! In fact everyone we interacted with was amazing and welcoming. The menu was elevated bar food and the cocktail menu was outstanding although I don't do alcohol, which I would like at least one NA beer option, but they did have a couple mock-tails that sounds fantastic but with my current diet wouldn't fit with the sugars. For eats I got the Goomer burger with no bun and added an extra patty and cheese curds on the side. I so wanted to like this place. I ordered a short rib sandwich and received the driest , stringiest, and smallest sandwich I've ever had . More like a dental floss filled sandwich . I even mentioned it to the waitress who didn't respond . Paid $3 extra to get the cheese curds which turned out to be 8 small pieces . This was our first time here. Sunday just before noon. We were seated right away and accommodated with our stroller. There's a back patio called "the backyard". Here's our overview of our first time experience and tips for first time visitors. What stood out foremost (and is VERY important to us) all YBG team were friendly, smiling and eager to help. Kudos to the owners, Christine and a gentlemen who's name is escaping us, sorry, well done! There are two bars that are first come first served seating. The front bar (E. Main) has larger seating capacity being in the indoor dining area. The back bar(alley), aka The Hive, if you know than you know - a 'speak easy' if you will, has a smaller bar, tall tables, couch and outside seating. There are TV's for the game and has a very fun vibe back there. Both bars offer very comfortable bar stools that swivel (sounds silly but we like that!). The back bar is not full menu but a fair amount of appetizers and of course, great drinks. We came in from the alley side and being first timers we didn't know where to go or how the place worked...was the bar open seating? Could we just grab one of these tables? There we are, standing there, trying to stay out of the way, as we tried to figure out the lay of the land. THOUGHT: A warm body at the back gate who simply "greets and explains" would have been helpful. Or, perhaps signage that says Please see host" with an arrow pointing down the back hall to the front? Ironically, after we took an empty high table, both owners saw us and were intentional about saying hello, introduced themselves and thanked us for being here. How fabulous is that? WIN! The drinks at The Hive were very well made and served by the fabulous Mari (becoming bartender social media famous) and JR. Both were smiley and great mixologist. WIN! WIN! Now let me introduce you to the front hostesses - Amanda/Makena (sp?) upon arrival they helped me with my "101 Questions But Were Afraid to Ask"...never skipping a beat nor making me feel like a bother. INSIDER TIP: You can put your name on the wait list with the hostess at the front and go to either bar and wait for your text that your table is ready. WIN WIN! Have we talked about Marley our server yet? Can you say AMAZING? Super friendly, knew the menu inside and out, has the warmer personality! We had 2 salads, Wedge with chicken, Kale/Chicken and The Goucho burger. The food was so amazing - we left no trace. And....Christine thanked us on the way out - what a great personal touch. I quite enjoyed myself for my first time here and solo trip. Looking forward to adding this to my Instagram blog soon but the staff inside was fantastic. Bartenders didn't want to do any sort of. Talking with guests but the hosts & hostesses were so kind. The waitstaff also checked up on us bar top patrons and stopped for a few minutes convos here and there. Probably one of my better solo bar hoping trips I've done in a long time.
