She's a great trainer, and even knows about nutrition and and healthy eating if you're looking for guidance with that. She always has a positive and encouraging energy with her clients, and will base your sessions around your personal fitness goals. The studio is clean and has everything you need for a great workout, including drinking water and towels. Another great perk is the convenient scheduling system where you can schedule your workouts on the BCT app and even cancel if something comes up. (I hate to cancel though because BCT is my "happy place"). I'm stronger, healthier and happier since joining BCT! I can't recommend Wendy and BCT more highly!!

Training with Merrit at Beach Cities for only four short months has yielded me RESULTS! I lost 6.2% body fat while maintaining my weight. I went from having 24.9% down to just 18.7% body fat! I lost fat, gained lean muscle. I'm ecstatic! Things can only get better from here. When you have a kickass, awesome trainer like I do - you will get better & stronger! He goes above and beyond to deliver a service that is much higher quality than you get at most gyms. He develops training programs based on the goals we discuss and set together, he combines my training with nutritional planning, and he is a great motivator during our workouts. When he left Equinox at a trainer, it was an easy decision to follow him to Hermosa. During the year I was to turn 40 years old, Shad and I set a goal of getting to 10% body fat without losing any weight to really focus on building lean mass. He put together a kick-ass 8 month plan to build muscle and burn off the belly fat. It was painful passing on beers and bread for 8 months but we hit the goal and Shad did a great job of keeping me motivated and on track. You can't go wrong training with Shad. Great guy, great results. But while he kicks my butt during our workouts, I did leave him in the dust when we went skiing at Mammoth last winter. Shad, I guess skiing is a different kind of training. :)

I purchased guest passes so I could bring my son to experience the gym. Instead of being welcoming or professional, the employee openly expressed that he did not like my son and stated that he would refuse to sell me guest passes in the future. I found this behavior completely inappropriate and unprofessional. Guest passes are offered by the gym as a service to members, and personal opinions about a member's family should never influence whether that service is provided. The employee's comments made both my son and me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. I expect staff to treat all members and guests with respect, regardless of personal feelings. Management should address this issue and ensure employees maintain a professional attitude when interacting with customers.

The place is always clean, weights are always put away, clientele is always for the most part working out, not carrying on with conversations or taking or making their own video production of their workout because they're an influencer, which don't give me wrong they are still here, but they're far a few between the other gyms. They offer ready-made meals, every kind of protein drink that you can come up with along with waters a place to sit and rest so you really can't go wrong with this gym. My family (family of 4) had a blast here! We stayed there for about 6 hours. We did the obstacle…read morecourse twice and rented 2 kayaks while we were there. Bought 3 food items and a gatorade. But we spent alittle over $300 there on everything! There is a $35 or $45 entrance fee depending on when you come. It's just to come inside the lagoon. If you want the obstacle course it's an additional $10 per person for 55 mins (super short). If you want to kayak, use the aqua bike or use the paddleboard it's an additional $10 per equipment/item. There is a kiddie area for small and young children. They DO NOT allow outside food or drinks except water! There is a small shop that sells misc. items, snacks & drinks (overpriced). They also had a foodtruck inside that was expensive and the meals didn't come with drinks. They do have plenty of staff and lifeguards there. The entrance fee should of been $15-20. The obstacle course atleast 90-120 mins instead of the 55 mins. Wish the foodtruck came with drinks and was a bigger portion.

Think of The Yard community as a cross between your high school weight room & the boxing gym in "The Fighter" -- both in terms of its blue collar mentality and the genuine sense of camaraderie & friendship that exudes from this place. Yes, as you may read online, The Yard has become a destination for world class athletes from across the globe & across a slew of different sports. It's pretty inspiring to workout alongside these guys & gals. Much more importantly for this lady (who's a couple of decades past any semblance of an athletic "prime"...), The Yard is a special spot that -- for years now -- has never failed to provide me with a solid dose of encouragement to be a happier, healthier person. An indescribable facility just a few steps from the soft sand of the beach (nature's best training surface), and a few more steps from nature's best post-workout cold tub. But the location by the Pacific is only a fraction of the story. Go there yourself for the rest. Or ask Tom Brady or Russell Wilson or Kobe Bryant or Maria Sharapova or the litany of other pros who have trained there. If you dislike top-end equipment, approachable staff, and the perfect mix of solitude and camaraderie -- if you have something against Earth Wind and Fire played at top volume (or Kanye or Zeppelin or Sublime or Miles Davis ... or ... or ... ) while you ask the best of yourself, then this one-of-a-kind gym ain't for you. The Yard is our "HOME" gym! My kids have grown up going to The Yard and have each received "sport specific" training for club, high school and college athletics. My college athletes come home and immediately check in with their trainers at the Yard...the off-season is so important for them! Troll and Leslie have not only trained my kids, but have mentored them, encouraged them and given them the tools they need to reach their athletic goals. The owner and other trainers are exceptional working with kids! Not just the exercises that will make them better athletes BUT the mentorship to make them a better teammate and better person. This is also true for professional athletes. I have worked out there for 15 years alongside many players from the LA Kings, the Lakers, the Patriots, Olympic athletes, top touring tennis players, professional volleyball players and many many more elite athletes. They come there because of the trainers and because they get left alone to train. It feels like home to me and I wouldn't workout anyplace else. It is NEVER crowded. read more

Just based on the attitude alone from Some little short older dude walking around this business says DO NOT ENTER. This little dude is the definition of piece of toilet paper. Be nice to People. Open your eyes when your walking around and if your a business owner your headed in the wrong direction. Confrontation might not be the best way when talking to people. Listen to what people say. Having lived in the South Bay for over 10 years, the YARD is as good as it gets for training and community. For any kind of training (Olympic lifting, power lifting, sport-specific training), the equipment is top of the line and always improving. Troll is always tweaking the equipment offering & giving his members the best experience he can create. There is a great community feel to the gym, where all the member know each other. For the past five years, I have had coach Troll run the Redondo Union Boy's Volleyball team off-season strength and conditioning program. As the head coach, I want to focus on the x's and o's of the sport and not worry about preparing my athletes to be in the best physical shape possible. The YARD is hands down the best "Old School" gym featuring the newest and greatest state of the art equipment and cutting edge training programs, nutrition and physio-therapy. The gym has a semi-private atmosphere although it is home to numerous world class athletes from various professional and extreme sports. What I found was, not only help for my injuries but, a terrific environment to get healthy and stay fit. This is the only one I know in south bay that has BOXING gym which is cool, but its in the dungeon underneath the gym, so enjoy it alone I guess? no ones ever in there but I bought some gloves so I'll punch a few. The only two PROS to this place compared to El Segundo is the outdoor gym is nice if you like a bit of fresh air instead of the luxury indoor interior. Second Jacuzzi is Gender Fluid, so ANYONE MAN WOMAN ALIEN ENTITY, may join in... And I've see one or two people I'd like to say Hi too if you know what I mean.. Hehehee.. As someone who hadn't lifted weights in decades, I was honestly nervous about starting again in my 50s. From day one, everything exceeded my expectations. Their commitment to proper form and technique creates a very safe place to train. Each session builds on the last, so you feel progress without feeling overwhelmed. The biggest compliment I can give is this: I genuinely look forward to my training sessions. A lot more than I ever expected. I'm getting stronger, my mobility is improving, and I feel better overall. I also love that they have multiple locations nearby and a ton of training days and times. They make it about as easy as it gets to stay consistent. And another bonus: dogs. On most days, one of the trainers has their dog there. Dogs rule, and any workout is better when you get to pet a pup between sets.

The front desk staff is always helpful, and the little details don't go unnoticed. Fresh clean towels are always stocked and the fridge has a great selection of drinks. The coaching staff is excellent as well. Each coach brings their own personality and style but they all keep workouts fun, efficient and straight to the point. You're guaranteed a killer workout in under an hour or stay for another class. They have so many classes throughout the day! My wife and I both go here and it's great to see so many families as part of the gym. Some even bring their kids, who hang out while the parents train. The location is another big plus. It's tucked away from busy streets, which makes it feel more private, yet it's still within walking distance to the beach--honestly the perfect setup. The floor workouts are completely rushed and they expect you to do heavy weights AND high reps in the 6-8 minutes your round lasts. That's not really possible to do without sacrificing good form. I'm trying not to injure myself thanks. Also, if I want to modify, I'm going to modify despite their silly rules as long as it's not a completely different workout as it's my workout I'm paying for.
