I went in to check out this gym recently. Was completely ignored by the guy working there. Not even an acknowledgment of my existence. I live 2 blocks away and could have been a member for years to come. Then I looked in and saw a lot of other people had the same experience in their reviews. This is the place to go if you're looking for Health, Well being and the BEST PLACE TO TRAIN in the South Bay!! Amazing trainers, equipment and the highest level of athletes you can train around. The owner is not only a world class strength and conditioning coach to some of the NFL's, NHL and MLB's most elite athletes he also gives back to community by working with kids and our Military. I can't imagine training and keeping in top physical shape at any place other than The Yard. And my business keeps growing due to the contacts I make with other Yard Members. I have found this to the perfect place for me. With the ability to paddle-board, surf, swim and run in the sand and then hit the Yard for a serious training session the location is perfect-it is almost like I am on the beach when I train. Was visiting area since client was in Area ,went inside to see if I can work out for a little bit , was denied,did not feel welcomed, short older gentlemen had a bad attitude,def felt unwelcomed and just a negative experience as I wanted more information,Owner or person in charge def needs to work on being more professional ,this business will not succeed having such a Terrible level of customer service read more

Tues., 2/26/13: Walked into this Hermosa Beach Gym; supposedly it has NHL and NFL clients who train there. I arrived near closing time just to gather information on costs, etc. The gym was empty when I walked in, including no employee evident. I looked around closely and there was a short dude with duct-tape on his shirt sitting in an electric style parking meter cart at curbside. I asked him "do you work here", and the guy glared at me without an answer and said "what do you need?" I repeated, "do you work here, there's nobody obviously attending to the gym"? He repeated nastily, "What do you need"? in a raised voice/nasty attitude..... He apparently matches some of the photos on their Website, so he does indeed work there; whomever is he is -- He should be terminated/fired immediately for being an A**hole to a customer. If this gym is only for snobby NFL/NHL types, then post it on the door so us real people will go elsewhere. What a jackass piece of crap business. Owners: If this is your employee; fire him. If the Jackass owns the gym; then go back to your high school gym where you belong. read more

Love coming here you get a real workout in a real gym. Don't be fooled they have state-of-the-art equipment with state of the art training. these trainers are real athletes. What a great gym at a a great location! Small and quaint with all the facilities you need to get a great work out and feel GOOD! "Troll" the owner is FUNNY and very welcoming which makes the work out all the better. The Yard has been around forever and has all the best equipment. Im there everyday and love it. Dont expect to go in there and be sitting on equipment looking at your cellphone like other gyms unless your prepared to be embarrassed by everyone in there working their asses off. Bring your will, humility, positive attitude, and become badass. Troll, Arqum, and Luiz will push you to your limits and make you believe you can surpass them. Walked in and two employees were in the midst of what I assume was a really important chat because neither could say hello or ask if they could help me. I dared to ask what the rate would be for an out of town workout - "$100". That was all the customer service I could get. Best place to train in the South Bay! The equipment is top notch, the trainers are real trainers that know how to push you into results. IT is a gym the way a gym should be. No one sitting around like a social club. People come to this gym to get in shape, exercise and do what your suppose to do at a gym. Came in while I was on my lunch break to inquire about rates etc. the guy sitting at the front door yelled at me as I walked back further into the gym and mistook me for a salesman and immediately turned me off to the entire establishment. If someone can be that rude before meeting and giving me a moment to explain myself I do not want to support a business who employs rude ppl. Awesome local spot to work out. Close to the beach and right smack dab in the center of town, you will feel like you're right at home. Very friendly staff and the place is always spic and span clean. Pro athletes, weekend warriors, Olympic medalists and hopefuls, high school stars and current NCAA players, children and Executive aging was ben's trying to relive the moment, (that's me) this unique Gym has it all. Part therapy room, healing spot, or just plain old hard core exercise facility. Really difficult to pigeon whole why this place is so unique in the overcrowded gym space I'd say it's the people. The individuals that run the joint. Troll unique and amazing man, tells it like it is, can be gruff, but amazing with children and Elite athletes alike. Gets the kids, yours and mine, and is training their entire being. Mind body and soul! Old school values instilled in them. He's worked with my four kids! Invaluable advice given to them that they won't listen to from me their Dad! Luiz a former Mr. Olympia adds top info and his energy alone draws you back over and over. Worst gym ever! Reason being the owner/manager just depends on his mood. Or it could be the juice or he's bipolar to be honest. I signed up to try it out after recently moving here, he was the nicest coolest guy in the world when I was inquiring on memberships. After he got my cc info and got me signed up a switch flipped instantly, no joke!?!?!? The money or price is not an issue it's the customer service and that muscle hamster owner. STAY AWAY LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!!!!!!! Unless you enjoy having a businesses owner treat you like crap and always yelling and screaming at his vendors and employees in the back and even in the gym. But the thing that really turned me off and made me take the time to post this was how rude and arrogant he was to me. Also look at all of the reviews. He has a lot but only 2 actually count as reviews, why is this???? Because he or his employees or family members are the ones writing the reviews. Honestly. I'm a marketing executive and know how online marketing works inside and out and how the reviews effect their businesses success or failure. I'm not doing this to be vindictive but I just think people should be aware of how business owners treat their customers after your in a contract with them.
