The best yarn shop in San Antonio, in my book... and primarily because of the staff. Great place to bring a project and sit and relax for a while or get help on a pattern problem. Nice yarn selection... maybe not the biggest in the area, but nice all the same. Their experienced staff is very helpful on anything from finding the right yarns/colors for a new project to working thru issues with a current project. Wish they were on my side of town... Took their beginning knitting class and really enjoyed it. It was $30 for. (2) 2 hour classes. The instructor was fun and really knew her subject matter. Sorry i dont remember her name, but she was tall with short, crazy colored hair. My only suggestion would be to break this class up into. 3 sessions, as it was a lot for a newbie to absorb. I would be happy to pay more for a 3 session class. read more

My mother is a knitter and a fiber artist, so when she came to visit me in SA, she actually introduced me to Yarnivore. I liked the store because they have a kid friendly area with Legos and baby dolls, so my two year old was in heaven! While I am not a knitter, I do love to craft, and I wish other craft stores would offer kid-friendly corners. As for Yarnivore, my mom was really impressed with the selection and the service. She said there was a little of everything yarn-wise. We saw a weaving tutorial in the back of the store while we shopped, and the front clerk was friendly and helpful. read more

Not a very friendly staff and the ladies knitting didn't appreciate my kids chatter (I swear they're well behaved and I was right there with them). Love love love this place. I decided to learn to knit over the Christmas break and found myself making lots of mistakes. Decided to take a 1 hr private with Wendy and it was the best investment in my knitting I have made. I keep going back to the shop for knitting supplies and of course YARN. Love their selection of both low priced, normal brands like Berroco and also the fun "different" skeins. I have yet to encounter a shop worker who is not friendly and helpful, and eager to discuss what I am working on or what skills I am hoping to develop next. Extra shout out to Moses who spent time with me recently discussing needle options and suggesting that I next master toe up socks. There are always a few people knitting on the couches up front, and everyone, even the customers, seems to be very welcoming. As a youngish person to the craft, it has been great to feel included and not dismissed, as I had feared. Living close to both Austin and San Antonio, I have a wide variety of yarn stores I can visit, and have. However Yarnivore is hands down my favorite and will continue to get my business for a long time to come. read more

My momma also introduced me to the Yarnivore. She is an avid knitter and she loves this place, as I do now too! Both the owner and all staff members are super friendly, knowledgeable, and just awesome, in general. They offer classes for all levels. As a beginner knitter, I find these classes extremely helpful. A truly wonderful aspect of this local shop is the welcoming and creative environment they have. There are several chairs and a sofa at the front of the store where they welcome knitters to sit and knit and chat with each other. My mom has made many wonderful friends here and she truly feels so at home at the Yarnivore. They have an expansive selection of all different types of yard and knitting accessories. I love this yarn store. Everyone is very helpful and they have a great selection of yarn. They also carry a good line of high quality yarn and tools for the trade. As soon as you walk in you are greeted and welcomed. They yarn is all very well organized. They also have a sale section and if you get stuck on a pattern, someone there will help you solve the problem. They have many books on knitting and crocheting. Also, there is an area to sit down and work on your project. If you want to learn how to knit there are classes that are well structured. What a great place. read more

The staff let be and only pointed me in the right direction (of a well-designed-store) when I asked for the help. After I warmed up to the specs and people, I was educated on a wide range of product detail that I had never known. I've been going to this yarn shop for about 5 years. I was a new knitter and took lessons and have purchased much yarn and Tammy and her staff have always been so helpful. Now with the new owner and staff there is no difference same friendly people and there stock is amazing. I am a rabid crocheter who normally has six projects already planned when I finish the one I am currently working on. I have stopped in this shop a few times as I like to buy my yarn first, then when I see a pattern I love, I can start the project immediately. Tonight I was in one of my "yarn binge moods" and went in. I browsed for a bit as I have two friends who are expecting and my cousin is getting married at the end of the year. I decided maybe I had better wait a bit to find out what each had planned as far as decor. Normally no one pays very much attention to me as I do not feel the need to impress anyone. But tonight as I was walking out, one of the "in crowd" decided to invite me to sit down and talk awhile even though I did not have one of my projects with me to work on. It was somewhat enjoyable until the owner saw a certain lady walking towards the store. "Oh no!" she said. "Here come THE BUS LADY". Several unflattering remarks were made making me wonder what nasty things they would say about me when I left. The shop has lovely yarn. Unfortunately the idea of spending my money to support people who obviously feel they are somehow above their patrons makes me think twice. I will drive up to Comfort or Austin the next time I feel like indulging myself in a yarn spree. There is nothing in this store than cannot be found in a store that the employees do not feel the need to act out a scene from "Mean Girls"* * * **Holy Cow. I just found out the person who was acting the most uppity, opinionated and made the most obnoxious comments was not the owner. Imagine how horrid she would be if she did own the shop. Mmmm yes, I will definitely pay more in gas and give up a skein or two of yarn in order to avoid such unbecoming behaviour. read more

This cute yarn shop is a must visit! My daughter and i loved this shop! Staff very helpful! A LOT of yarns to choose from! Very nice yarns and lots of projects to choose from! I just left Yarnivore with a fresh supply of yummy alpaca sport weight yarn. This store is my all-time favorite yarn emporium. Plenty of lovely yarns, beautifully displayed, and very helpful sales associates make this a "must shop" when I visit San Antonio. The atmosphere is welcoming and enticing.
