I read the reviews of this place thinking it had great service and competitive pricing. Sure, they do what they say they're gonna do, but the price? They quoted me a $125 oil change. You can go to Midas for 40-50 bucks. After telling them that price seemed a little high, they tried to influence me to bring it in anyway, which I knew would put me in a situation where I had to uncomfortably negotiate or walk out and start over. I got service done here a while back as well and they were by far the most expensive choice. I unfortunately did not want to call another tow service to remove it from the location so I got the work done there.They tried charging me a $200 diagnostic fee. They said it's an hourly rate, but the mechanic who looked at my car slipped up and said he only "diagnosed" it within 15 minutes. They refunded me the fee after I explained to them my perspective which was nice, but the overall price of the service was much higher than other mechanics I got quotes from. Perks on the customer service quality, but genuinely if you're looking for the same level of service at a lower price, I'd recommend going elsewhere. read more

Tried to bring vehicle in in April for inspection. Was told no with no appointment. I was understanding, they seemed annoyed I asked to make appointment for later. Ok, no problem, made appt for May 2 and brought my 2021 Subaru Outback in. Dropped off when shop opened and received call around 1pm that it failed and was quoted $1300 for 4 tires. $1950 for two control arms. And recommended $960 for rear brakes, for parts and labor, not inclusive of tax and shop supplies. I had trouble hearing everything, no pause between listing thousands in charges and the man was either mumbling or poor connection. I requested quotes in writing please, and suggested I provide my email. He said they will not email it, but then agreed to text it, noting 'that I really need to make a decision because parts need to be ordered if I want to be helped.' I had planned to get tires before the coming winter and had $900 line item down in the 2026 budget, but as a result I know all terrain decent Subaru tires are at most $230 each, so perhaps this quote includes $400 of labor to put on four tires? Or perhaps these tires are infused with gold flecks? I wonder if they'd quote a $1300 tire change without one detail about the type of tires to someone who doesn't look like a single young adult woman. After reviewing the quote by text and plugging my vehicle into dealership quote estimate for parts and local labor, I learned control arms for steering cost 400-600 each including labor at dealership, so at most should be $1200, not $1950. And rear brakes should be at most $400-450 inclusive of labor. Their total quote was $4300. According to local dealership estimate for my make and model it would be $2500 at most inclusive of parts and labor. So I paid for failed inspection and got the vehicle to a family mechanic in state but out of town and all parts including all terrain tires, alignment, and repairs and inspection are complete for $1900. 2 stars because the diagnostic/assessment was accurate. The quote however included ~100% required tip. If you'd like to support a business by paying roughly double market value then yes, I do recommend this shop. If, however, you are paying bills and/or clocking in and out for shift work and have common sense, then I recommend moving along for whatever it is you are currently searching for. read more

I've been going to Yates for several years now, servicing both my car and my partner's, and the experience has always been great. That's why I was surprised by how things went today. I called yesterday to ask about a safety inspection and was told to come in this morning When I arrived, a gentleman asked if he could help me. I said yes, I'm here to drop off my car for an inspection. He asked if I had an appointment, and I replied no. He then told me they were fully booked with eight cars. I explained that when I called yesterday to ask if inspections were being done and whether I needed an appointment, I was told no appointment needed. So I was confused when I was asked about an appointment upon arrival. At that point, another gentleman in a white shirt interjected and said, "We're booked," but did so with an attitude. Fortunately, I was able to find another garage just down the street in Delray. They also had eight cars ahead of me but were still willing to take my car, clearly they prioritize customer service. It's a shame that wasn't the case here. That said, I've had good experiences here in the past, so I'll take that into account read more

Surprisingly the car failed the safety test due to faulty front suspension and then I was quoted to fix at $500 parts $600 labor and $200 wheel alignment!!! And they could fix it immediately as they just happen to have the parts for a 2013 Subaru Outback!! I smelt a rat and the next day I paid $20 for a second inspection and guess what?? It passed!! Embarrassed to say I wasn't sure how much air was needed and how to check it so went in and a very, very nice, professional young man named John said he would be happy to put air in my tires. When I told him it was only the rear tire that the light had indicated, he insisted on checking all four and, this photo shows what he found in my front tire. So thankful he found that before who knows what could've happened. That's the kind of personal attention and service Yates has been giving my family for over 50 years. These people are nuts! They failed my inspection and quoted $2000+ in repairs in 9 days to get my inspection passed! I don't have anywhere near that kind of money lying around. I went to my go-to mechanic and he charged $110 to make some fixes and re-inspect my car. This is after Yates offered to "work with me". I'll never set foot in this place again. I had the best experience today at Yates Automotive. The alert system on my Audi indicated that I needed to check the air pressure in one of my tires. The same alert had popped up a week ago, and I had then added air to the tire. When it appeared again I was sure that the tire had a nail or some other intrusion that caused it to leak air. I went back to Yates ready to have the tire checked, patched, or maybe replaced, but JOHN the attendant insisted on again checking the air pressure. It turns out that when I added air after the first alert, I had added too much. JOHN released some of the air to bring the pressure to the recommended amount, then volunteered to check all the other tires, which were okay, after which he reprogrammed the car's system to prevent the alert from retriggering. While before his help I had imagined being without a car for some time during a week of appointments and preparations for Thanksgiving, his very friendly and courteous help both solved my problem and gave me peace of mind. Unfortunately diesel was put in my car by accident. My car was subsequently towed to Yates in Alexandria on Braddock Road. I can't say enough good things about this automotive service business. They were so friendly and helpful while also being professional and efficient. They completed the draining and cleaning of the tank and even were kind enough to fill the car with the correct fuel! The charges were reasonable and they went out of their way to help in every way possible. I will refer everyone who needs auto service to reach out to Yates. The Manager, Khris was very helpful and informative. Also a technician I had contact with, Nick was respectful and kind. It's always difficult when problems arise with your Vehicle, but these gentlemen made it easy to get everything that was needed complete in a reasonable time and price. They called me in the middle of the oil change and told me they recommended adding two filters - my bill was $370+ by the time I checked out. For an oil change. Their excuse "oil is expensive now." Took my LR4 there the other day. The service writer took hand-written notes on the problems I was having with the vehicle and was very transparent about prices and fees. The mechanic called a few hours later and said the issues were minor and that all I need was basically a software update. They kept it overnight to make sure all the problems were fixed. All the issues are gone and it's running like new. Very fast, professional service with smiles all around (including mine). My only knock is that I had them send the truck to be washed at their car wash arm. They did a terrible job. Missed some spots, never cleaned the roof. It was like they did a wipe down with some sort of chemical instead of taking a hose to it or putting it through a machine. Salt stains remained on the underbody and roof. One of the managers gave me a card for a free wash on my next visit, but I don't think I'll be back for a wash. But they are my new mechanical shop! I won't be going anywhere else for repairs. read more

My 2001 Roush Mustang restoration. My mustang was in yates shop for approximately 5 months getting a complete rebuild to put it back on the road. They did everything from rebuild brakes, New custom Exhaust system (Side Pipes), AC system, Seals, Plugs, starter, alternator, New Cowl, New Tires and Hood latch assembly to name a few of the items. From the first time my mustang showed up until completion of work the honest and sincere mannerism of the staff has been excellent. I will highly recommend Yates Automotive for vehicle repairs in the future. I recently had a very disappointing experience at Yates Automotive. I came in for a simple vehicle inspection, which typically takes 15-20 minutes. Despite being one of the only customers there, I ended up waiting for over an 2 hours and a half period of time. I understand the standard of a "line" but for how many workers they had present, it seemed quite alarming regardless. What made the wait even more frustrating was watching the workers lounging around and making frequent trips to 7-11 for beverages and snacks. It's unbelievable that they had no time to service my car but plenty of time to cater to their own needs. This lack of professionalism and respect for customers' time is unacceptable. The state inspector was my last straw, as he identified himself to be slightly discriminatory with how he decided to go about my car and me entirely. Usually after every car is serviced, it's driven back to the main lot for pickup but surprisingly, he left mine at the other lot. I didn't make the connection at first til an actual worker explained to me of his choice to leave my car behind but for others, who happened to be caucasian, he drove back to the lot. Afterwards, my inspection was failed due to a tire and exhaust system leak and ran up a tab to fix said issues for over $1100. I got both issues fixed at another location for less than $300. Funny how inflation works in our country but worse how it works from one auto body shop to another. If you value your time and capital, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere for automotive services. Yates Automotive clearly prioritizes their breaks over their customers. read more

I have been purchasing my fuel here for 12 years. I also have my annual inspection completed with Yates. Yates does so much to add to our neighborhood - the store is spotless, there are always beautiful flowers, and the seasonal decorations are amazing. Yesterday I filled up with gas and the tire pressure warning light came on in my SUV. A kind young man assisted me and we found a HUGE nail embedded in in my tire. In a world full of unnecessary expenses and time-consuming inconvenience, Yates is particularly diligent in its efforts to add even more. Seriously, I've lived two blocks from Yates for 20 years and these guys seem to go out of their way to overcharge me for stuff I do not need. Where do I begin? Was it the time I went for a routine oil change and they called me and told me my car had failed inspection and was undriveable (oops - they were calling about another car, but that sure did shock me.) Was it the time they tried to charge me for the priciest possible alternative to a part I needed - only to fess up when I called and asked a semi-intelligent question about it that, yes, there is a cheaper way to address this problem. I've tried to take a breather from Yates, but they're so darned close it's hard to bypass them, and the beauty of walking home after you drop off your car is huge. So I went today to get an emissions check on my extremely old and admittedly high-maintenance Honda Odyssey. Sure enough, they called back to tell me I needed two front tires and that the wear was bad. The problem? I got FOUR new tires two years ago, and have driven just 16,000 miles on those tires since then. And those tires were realigned last week, when I replaced the power steerage rack and pinion. To say the tread was bad was provably false. It was, plain and simple, bullshit, which I confirmed when I headed up the street to a second inspection site, which cleared me with little fanfare. I'd love to say this is the first time I've gotten a second opinion that has conflicted with Yates' first opinion, but unfortunately it is not. Don't get me wrong: The staff is kind and courteous, the place is clean and well-maintained. It's just they rob you blind every chance they can get. It's like having the world's most courteous bank robber next door. Really a bummer. read more
