I had a very pleasant experience when I had to bring my car in for a 90,000 mile maintenance last month. The gentlemen who work there are very friendly, yet professional. They know their stuff. If you have to leave your car for a few hours, they'll give you a ride home if needed. I just waited less than an hour for my service, so I just sat inside. I even got a postcard in the mail a week or two ago thanking me for choosing them to service my vehicle. That was very nice, that they really appreciate me as a customer. The mechanic and safety inspector is crooked!! He failed me for broken tie rod, but wouldn't show me what was broken (the tie rod itself or the tie rod end). He said I would have to schedule an appointment to come back and pay for the mechanic to diagnose it... he's the mechanic.. I replaced the tie rod and tie rod end 2 years ago... see pic.. This local little spot was perfect for a quick oil change and safety inspection once I realized my sticker had expired in December. I was a little disappointed in my wait time despite having an appointment but thrilled at the quality of service and respect that I got in such short notice. My daughter and I took both of our cars to this station (which is now a Sunoco) to get a state inspection and emissions tests. Quality service and staff was knowledgeable and friendly, even filled tires with air as a courtesy. It only took 20 minutes and was reasonably priced. Total cost was $75 for three tests on both cars. I was driving a rental car to work when I heard a noise, pulled over and saw I had a flat tire. I drove to Bell Haven Shell and the man who works at the counter was so kind. He first put air in my tire for me so I could drive it closer to the shop. They were able to fix it $25., (nail in tire). I was so happy that I did not have to wait for a tow truck, go back to enterprise to get a new car. My husband and I just left the Shell station and the employee was very rude when my husband wanted to buy an item in the store. We went to the station to buy gas and after my husband finish pumping gas, he walked toward the store to buy coolant and he asked the employee who was sitting outside and smoking a cigarette if he could buy coolant and the employee said and "All this time I was inside, you didn't buy anything and now that I'm out here smoking a cigarette now you want to buy something?" My husband responded yes and then she said "In all my years I never seen people like the people who come to this gas station." Perhaps she was having a bad day but that level of customer service is inexcusable. That elderly woman was very nasty and just lost the store 2 customers. I have taken my classic Mercedes Benz to Belle Haven Shell for several years now, and I have to say that Mr. Shakeel is the best in the area. I feel confident that my car will be taken care of and will be given the best care around and at the best price. As a woman, I also feel that I am not being taken advantage of and am always told the truth about all repairs. Mr. Shakeel and his manager, Saif, and mechanic Mo are the absolute BEST. I would not go anywhere else. Each time I take my car into Belle Haven Shell, I am given a ride back to my home or the Metro. The problem is quickly diagnoses and Mr. Shakeel always calls me to go over what is wrong and the price. I agree to the fix, the parts are ordered quickly, and the car is repaired. I've been getting my safety and emission inspections here for over 10 years. I have always found them to be very honest in their dealings. Some stations, particularly those with service attached, find minor ridiculous faults to run up their fee. That has never happened here. Not once. Though I have never had service done (I own reliable Japanese cars mostly or do service myself), I did get an estimate for a rear brake job once and it was about right. If and when I do need service, they will certainly be on my short list. Update 10/13: A few months ago I brought my ancient Windstar here for a motor mount replacement. Price was in line with the Chilton's Labor Rates for the service performed and no post-visit issues. Everything was done properly with no need to return. I am a gear head and got to chat with one of their mechanics (the younger one, Jaipur might have been his name). I have to say I was impressed with this guy's technical expertise. I have been to all of the service providers in the Ft. Hunt area with less than impressive results (all of which have high ratings for some reason)-- I may very well be giving these guys my business in the future. Update 2/14: The cold weather has me bringing my little Nissan in for some fuel pump work. Price was within reason and the work done right. Unless something prompts me to change my mind, this is the place I would recommend for service (and most definitely inspections) in the area. read more

Fantastic service. Came in for an inspection/emissions test. Unfortunately did not pass the emissions test due to an engine light issue but scheduled an appointment so I could come back and get the problem examined. Very friendly staff. So rude, talked to me like I was a moron, had to ask me multiple times which tire it was. Came here for an inspection... usually, they are not that quick. Well to my surprise, I didn't wait long. There was a car before that they already started on and within 10-15 minutes tops they were ready for my vehicle. I didn't pass, but that was not a surprise as I thought I would need some brakes by now (approximately 2.5-3yrs since I had some and I drive a lot). Ali was very patient and answered all the questions I asked honestly. I appreciated his insight, assistance and thoughtfulness. I was pressed for time and they went above and beyond my expectations to get me out before I needed to be. Everything happens for a reason, I didn't plan to come here, but I ended up here... it was a great blessing, Ammanuel & Ismil were very kind as well. I will be coming back and recommending them to anyone in need of a good mechanic and great customer service!! After getting an estimate from the Chevrolet dealer for over $1500 to replace all brakes and rotors to fix Stabiltrac and Antilock brake warning lights and buzzer I took the car to Seif at Belle Haven Shell. He checked front and back brakes and noted they had at least another year before pads would need replacing. He added brake fluid and took care of the problem (no charge). The dealer also gave an estimate to fix AC problem where driver side was getting hot air while passenger had cold air. The estimate by dealer was close to $600 to replace actuator, reclaim freon and add a pound of freon. Seif replaced actuator (dealer got that part right) and the AC works great and I saved $250. I have been taking my cars to Seif for at least 5 years for repairs, state inspections and regular preventive maintenance. I am treated fairly and the car is fixed the first time without unnecessary repairs suggested. I trust Seif and his staff. read more

I came here for my annual state inspection based on the reviews that I read at Yelp. I agree with the others - they are professional, friendly and seem very honest. I've also had some inspections in the past where it seemed others were trying to run up their fee. The most obvious example is of a very, very minor (barely detectable steering fluid leak) which the inspector said would have to be fixed and would cost $1,500. I took it to another shop and they said, your car has over 100K miles, the fluid leak is barely detectable (and certainly not leaking onto my garage floor) and certainly posed no danger to myself or to the vehicle. As a minor point, I've noticed that stations that still offer free air (yes, this one does), seems to always offer better, more trustworthy service and it seems true here. I will definitely bring my car back here (and have recommended to others already). read more

Saturday morning I needed to get my car inspected before some lovely police officer decided to ticket me for driving with an expired inspection sticker. I have been out of town and in for medical stuff so much that this one just got away from me. I called ahead to see if there was a wait and was told there wasn't and then I proceeded to drive to the wrong dang Shell station where there was a line winding out the back. Sheesh. I pulled out my handy dandy yelp app, requested directions and in less than five minutes, I was being kindly greeted and invited to step inside while they took a look. I brought a book. Boy, I didn't get through three and a half pages before I had my slip in hand and a shiny new inspection sticker. No complaints here! It gave me plenty of time to head on over to another service station for some additional work that took so long they gave me a discount, but that is another story for another service station. I was really pleased with this place and would recommend their speedy service to anyone looking for a quickie inspection or even a general question. Super helpful! read more

I came today for vehicle services and self said they were way to busy but then said he would take care of it anyway. They are fast and accurate as well as friendly. I just bring my cars here for inspection, but I always have such a positive experience. I see a comment below about them always finding problems and I wonder if that reviewer confused them with the Belle Haven Exxon (which used to be a Shell). That is VERY true about that place, but not here. I have two older cars (a 12 and 22 year old) and have never had a single issue at this station. In fact the older one got a clean bill of health just today. :) Also every time I come it's the same guys working here, year after year. So they must be treated well. And it's a convenient stop for anyone traveling south from Old Town. What more can you ask for? read more

We agreed to exactly what my car needed, muffler and exhaust pipe replacement, and I got it in writing. After the car was fixed,, I got a call that the part cost more than they originally thought and so they wanted to pass that cost along to me. After some arguing (and my production of the written estimate), they relented. If the part had turned out to be cheaper there's no way they would have passed the savings along to me. A deal is a deal. Ultimately good work, but get a written estimate. read more

Had safety inspection and tires were right on the edge of passing but were failed. Spent $1,000 on new tires and got back to this inspection station a couple days after the expired 15. So they charged me $16 more for absolutely no work! Drive my car in, printed out approved ticket and handed me a bill. LOOK if you charge me a second time DO THE INSPECTION. I will never return here again and the funny thing is I am very certain they do not care. Find a friendlier place that knows a bit more how to properly communicate and respect customers. Edit: I am editing my rating from 1 star to 4 because the owner of the establishment did end up covering the cost of my repair with no hesitation after I sent him the invoice for the repair. I can't really ask for much more than that. I can't give a full five stars because I don't think the manager on duty handled the situation well at all but the owner did all that can be expected. I should have added this a long time ago and meant to but forgot. ============================= I just had my motorcycle safety inspection done here this afternoon. The inspection went fine but the technician stuck the sticker on my front fork, the part that travels into the seal. I didn't notice this until I got home. I live only about 10 minutes away from the shop. The sticker was torn to shreds and covered in oil. The fork seal is leaking. I immediately took it back to the shop. The manager was extremely dismissive and refused to offer me any documentation of the incident and even said the seal was not likely damaged. I talked to a BMW motorcycle tech at Bob's BMW on the phone right there. He stated they see this often and the seals are almost always damaged by it. I am taking the bike to Bob's next weekend to have the seal inspected and I wanted a promise that Belle Haven would cover any associated costs. They refused to give me anything in writing. The manager just kept saying "look at all these witnesses", pointing to all the employees. Seriously? My fear is that I'll go back in there with an invoice and they will deny everything. I just had these seals replaced about a year ago. The repair will cost $260 and it's required. read more

This is my third year in a row going to BelleHaven Shell for my car inspections. Today, I just had both of my cars serviced at BelleHaven Shell ('98 Camry and '98 Integra). I had to get some repairs done in order to pass safety and emissions inspections for both cars, including brake pads, exhausts system, O2 sensor, and faulty headlight. As always, I find the gentlemen who work there are very knowledgeable and professional. The prices are also fair and comparable to other shops. I will continue going there for my inspections, and recommend others to do the same. read more

Have been servicing our cars here for years, and these guys are great. One vehicle is a 2000 E-350 van with a Quigley four wheel drive conversion. Ball joints and stabilizer needed replacing, and they had to work hard to figure out the right parts to use on the modified front end. They stuck with it and got the job done well in time for our vacation. Seif communicates well and values his long term customers. Five stars for Belle Haven Shell. read more
