And, I was expecting to spend at least $30 because I feel like I always spend at least that and I walked out spending only $11. I definitely will be back and telling my friends about it. Thier mechanic, Scott, went "above and beyond" in seeking out the source of an alleged creaky bottom bracket. This is the best bike shop in Denver hands down. I've been coming here for 2-3 years now and have literally never had a bad experience. Never any hidden costs, sub-standard work that needed fixing, poor customer service or bad attitudes. All the employees are friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely stoked on bikes. If you need a place to keep your bike (or bikes) running smooth without breaking the bank, this is the place. I'll also add that while they don't necessarily look like a "core" MTB shop, I've taken my mountain bike there for all of its service and can't say enough good things about it. Even suspension work and tuning, they do it all very well. The kind of place where they treat you great whether it's a full suspension tune-up on your $5k mountain bike or a quick tube and derailleur adjustment on your $100 booze cruiser. read more

I was shopping for a Surly touring bike and went into Yawp as a friend told me they specialize in Surly. Super friendly as I walked in, and I was pleasantly surprised they had the bike I was looking for and the size I needed. I knew I was going to customize it, so I had a ton of questions for Levi who helped me through the whole process. He was extremely patient and knowledgeable. I test rode the bike and decided I wanted to purchase it. I asked Levi if the customization could be completed in less than a week because that's when I'd be able to pick it up. He said they'd do their best, and they certainly did! It was ready to go, with all of the changes, even as I kept adding requests throughout the week. I bought my first bicycle in 30+ years a few weeks ago here. I got incredible service and found the perfect bike for me. There were plenty of options, and for the accessories that were not in stock, Levi (the owner) ordered right away. The location is great too - right across from Sloan's Lake. There were some pretty cute children's bikes too, although if I had a young child looking for a bike we'd probably head to Goodwill. Still, there were plenty to pick from. Denver's air quality sucks. Seriously - look it up, we're the 8th most polluted city in the country. So much for that fresh mountain air everyone is moving here for... which means it's even more important to be a part of the solution, so do what I did and ditch the car for a bike! As you (should) know, all the cool kids are riding their bikes to work these days, so I decided to join the party. The 29er in my garage seemed like overkill for the 3 mile ride on surface streets into LoDo, so I found myself in the market for a new bike. Enter Yawp Cyclery. Since these guys are practically my Edgewater neighbors, I decided to walk down the block to see if they had anything that was in my price range and lined up with what I was looking for - really just a pretty basic commuter bike. Within 10 minutes of walking into the store, I was taking a spin through the hood in what would end up being the bike I now ride to work every day, even in the rain (more on that soon). Where the guys really earned all 5 stars was when it came time to throw some fenders on the ride, given I was buying the bike in the middle of spring where afternoon T-storms are a coin flip on any given day. Scott ended up ordering a set that was wide enough to give enough tire clearance, and narrow enough to fit inside the brake caliper. It was a narrow needle to thread, and he did so marvelously. They arrived a few days later and I dropped my bike off for Scott to work on. When I came back to pick it up, he was wrapping up the install and I got to observe just how happy I was that this was being done by the pros. It was a seriously intensive job, a mixture of art and science, and I certainly didn't have the know-how to bend and twist the steel fenders in the way needed to make them fit. But Scott worked his magic and the next day I cruised home during a lovely rainstorm. Soaked? Absolutely. But no rooster tail of road grime up the back of my rain jacket, so I considered it a win. Based on some of the bikes I saw in the shop, the guys are legends when it comes to building custom bikes. Once I outgrow this one and decide to clutter the garage with just one more piece of outdoor gear, I'm definitely going back to have these guys pimp me a ride. Pro tip: Joyride is literally 20 steps away, so you can either pregame your bike shopping (recommended) or hydrate while they're working on your bike. read more
