Went in to request they order me a specific Bianchi. I've always been loyal to that brand. There were some questions about fit i was concerned about, so the guys up front were reaching out to their Bianchi rep. I left them all my contact information, including phone number and they said they were going to call me. A few weeks have gone by and I've heard nothing from them. I guess the message is I should take the $2,500 elsewhere. The only reason they get two stars was everyone was wearing masks. The guys up front were friendly and easy to talk to. Seemed non judgemental. However, there's clearly no long term interest in me as a customer. I ended up going to Littleton to a mom and pop shop who was happy to help and take my money. Bought a Cannondale Synapse here. Sales was fine. Service dept is hands down worst shop in Golden. Bought bike and they said the fitting was free. It was the worst joke of a fitting I've ever experienced. I went home adjusted it way better than they did- then set up an actual competent professional fitting. Later I called to get bottom bracket fixed they said they couldn't make an appointment without seeing the bike. I explained I've already had the bike looked at and knew the issue. Hung up, called Peak cycles - they were working on my bike within 30 minutes, ordered parts and had bike back in 3 days. This place sucks for service. read more

I'm newer to the area and have checked out a few local shops but I find myself going to Big Ring the most often. They are super reliable and quickest during the summer when all the shops are slammed. Stopped in Saturday morning before a quick ride with my wife - shee needed some air in her tires and new grips. They helped out right away, switched her old grips out and installed the new ones. Put some air in both of our tires and made some adjustments to my wife's bike. $12 for the adjustment and grips were $45, in and out in about 20 minutes. Really nice guys who gave me some advice on my bike and my brake pads. We'll for sure be back, hoping to move to Golden soon and make this our regular shop. read more

I purchased a new Cannondale e-bike from Big Ring two months ago and the pedal/crackarm started vibrating on the second day of use. I brought it back and Big Ring re-torqued the loose crank bolt, but it happened again the following week. I re-torqued it and it came loose again. So I put red lock tight on it and it again came loose. Big Ring has been blowing me off because it's free warranty work and they refuse to contact Cannondale for warrenteed replacement parts. This is clearly a manufacturing tolerance issue and should be an easy fix. Fortunately I had a good relationship with the owner and he fixed the bike by replacing the crank arms. read more

Stopped by the other day to look for some brake pads. Even without an appointment which seems to be required everywhere these days, one of the guys in the shop took time to find the right pad and even installed it, making a few adjustments to make sure everything was moving well. Bought my bike here about seven years ago but it isn't the closest so haven't always used them, but they've won me back and will be taking my business and recommending others to Big Ring. I tried to get service and parts there. Apparently that is a bad idea unless you have 4 to 5 thousand dollars burning in your pocket to buy a high-end road bike. Those bikes are great! There are few places in the Denver area where you can see and touch these kinds of bikes. And if you look like you can afford them they will do a great job of selling you. Of course, everything else is a different story. Do not expect after-sale service once you have parted with your money. Really, do not expect anything else at all. I'm just a guy with a solid commuter bike asking for lighting parts. So they looked down their noses at me and made me go away. Fine. I'll not bother you again. read more

If you're a competitive cyclist, this is a great place - all the good stuff here. Not for commuters or hipsters or recreational cyclists. The bad is that I don't really trust them. They will try to sell you ANYTHING. And they want to sell you the most expensive stuff. I am not sure if they care if it's actually best for you. So do your research first before letting them upsell you. They seem to be notorious for that. But I will go again. It's a very cool shop. read more

In the short time that my wife, friends and I were in the store we had two separate employees come by and (genuinely) ask if we needed any assistance. This is truly a high end store, you can tell because not only because of the brands Big Ring carries, but because they didn't have a price tag on them. The other merch was reasonably priced. Nice guys but not too sure of the repair department. I don't know if he was in a hurry or what, but I came in to get a tiny hole patched. I had to run some errands so I dropped it off after explaining what I wanted then left them to it. I come back to a brand new tire that I didn't ask for, it was installed with the rotation arrow pointing the wrong way and the presta valve cover was gone. Don't bring a bike to a shop you didn't buy it from, lesson learned. read more

Came all the way from Michigan to hit some trails in Golden. Unfortunately, I ended up popping both my inner tubes on my first day at Apex so I went to Big Ring Cycles to convert my bike to tubeless. I took my old Trek to this business for a $99.99 tune up. Upon their inspection, I was told I need new shift levers. They didn't have the ones I needed, in stock. I was told it would take a couple of days to get the parts. THREE AND A HALF weeks later, I was told my bike was ready. The new shift levers/brake levers had been installed. I took my first ride on my bike; the rear derailleur was not adjusted properly, the front derailleur was not adjusted properly, the front brake was not adjusted properly. My bike was in better condition BEFORE I brought it to this business. Since there was no way in Hades I was going to bring my bike back to this business, I made the adjustments to the brake and derailleurs, myself. So, basically, I wasted 3 1/2 weeks, plus the time I spent correcting the business' mistakes, over a hundred dollars, and my bike being in worse condition than I brought it in. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this business for bike repair, at this time. However, it's a nice looking shop in historic downtown Golden, with plenty of high end mountain and road bikes, for all ages. The staff was friendly. I hope they will address the issues with their service/repair, very soon. read more

I shopped around the Denver area for a road bike and got a lot of strange vibes from other places in town. Many of them felt pushy and tried to sell me whatever they could because they quickly realized that I am a beginner and they like taking advantage of that. Many shops were vague on the sizing and didn't listen to my concerns about riding with chronic back pain. Big Ring Cycles seemed to be the most engaged in selling me my first road bike that fits well and they found a quality model within my budget. I didn't feel too pushed to purchase a bunch of upgrades or accessories, but I appreciate them being brought to my attention. I have been back to tweak my fit a few times and pick up a few items; they are always a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend seeing Alex, I've worked with him from the start. read more

I was having dinner with a few friends last night discussing our experiences with bike shops in the Denver area. So I've decided to post a message on Yelp. If you want a great bike, or have certified mechanics working on your high-end bike, this is the ONLY shop in the Denver metro area you should shop. I ride Campy Chorus 11, and after the race season my chain was skipping, my shifting was worse than a walmart street bike. I took my bike to 3 shops, dropped ~$300 in "tune-up" fees, new Campy Record chain ($$$), just to have it doing the same. I talked to Big Ring, they have the Campy 11 tools and the knowledge to fix my bike. If you've been in this shop, many of the bikes have the Campy 11 groupos on them. When I picked up my bike, it shifts like a dream. Each of the 11 gears are 1 click. If you're looking for a bike, this is the place that has the experience and are great people. Before I asked them to work on my bike, I was just looking at their selections. I don't look like I can afford a high end bike, nor do I know what's good, I was treated like a potential customer. Went in with a broken part I needed to replace and was not impressed by the service. I went in because I needed help but was treated like I was dumb for asking for help finding the part. The customer should never feel bad or guilty for asking questions or asking for help... Right? I talked to two employees and got the same response from both. This shop and its employees, including the owner, are absolutely pathetic as it relates to customer service, customer engagement, manners and using basic retail best practices. They don't care about customers, will ignore you and look down their noses at you as the other reviewer mentions. Both my wife and I have been in the shop three times collectively and have had exactly the same crappy experiences. All three times we were left to wander the store and no one even made an attempt to acknowledge us. Each time the owner and employees spoke with each other, hung with friends, were on the phone and basically ignored us. Even when I stood in front of the owner, while he spoke and laughed with a friend he did not feel it was important enough to engage with me. I finally spoke and said "I am leaving now, you guys suck and need to learn how to treat a customer". Interestingly enough, I have heard through many other people that they have had the same experience. My wife, friends and I will never enter this store again - they SUCK. read more

After having previously worked in a high end LBS and having a husband who managed one previously, I am extremely picky as to who I trust, especially when it comes to buying a new bike. The staff at Big Ring listened to me, what I enjoyed doing and then took my fit numbers to help find me the perfect bike. They happened to have the perfect bike on the floor, but if it didn't work out- they had no hesitation about ordering me the right bike. I purchased a triathlon bike from them back in May of 2012. It took the manufacturer a while to get it delivered but they kept me informed and even upgraded some components to compensate for my long wait. I thought I was off to a great relationship. In July, I took the bike in for it's first post-purchase tune-up. That all seemed to go well until a week later when the rear derailleur fell off the hanger. This, just two weeks before a big race. No idea why it happened but I had hardly ridden the bike since the tune up. Rather than own up to the mistake and give me a break on the service, they chose to charge me full fare as if they had no culpability. As a result, when I come into the market for things like race wheels, a power meter, clothing etc, (to say nothing of future repairs and tune ups) I'll be going elsewhere. Way to step over a dollar to pick up a dime. read more

I'm a fairly casual cyclist, and after breaking a chain I first went to one of the other bike shops in Golden (the big one on the corner, near downtown) hoping to buy an inexpensive chain-breaker tool to make a simple repair. That shop tried to sell me a new chain and an expensive multi-tool, which was the only chain-breaker tool they had in the store. On my way home I stopped by Big Ring, not expecting much. However, one of the guys there - I wish I'd gotten his name - turned out to be extremely helpful. He took a fair amount of time to explain to me that on the style of chain I had, a normal chain tool wouldn't work because the pins are peened rather than simply pressed, and that the correct repair would be a special repair link, made to fit that specific chain, that could be installed easily without tools. He showed me how the repair link worked, didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need, and best of all, he had removed the necessary repair link from another chain earlier that day, had it sitting around in the shop, and simply gave it to me, free of charge. I left the shop with the correct repair in hand and without spending a dime. This is my only experience with Big Ring: I can't attest to their general pricing, selection, or anything else, but I came away impressed by this experience. They took time to educate me, saved me a more expensive repair, and did so knowing that it wouldn't lead to a sale on that day. I will endeavor to give Big Ring my future business whenever it makes sense to do so. read more

I would recommend Big Ring Cycles wholeheartedly. I went to Big Ring Cycles to search for a new Tri-bike because my old one did not quite fit me perfectly (neck pain). I originally thought that I would get a prebuilt bike, knowing that custom-made bikes are usually very expensive. When I first went in I spoke to Alex Bishop and Jessie Bishop about the bicycles that the shop sells, their prices, and their availability. Both were very knowledgeable and friendly. The second time I went in I spoke with the shop's owner, Scott Morman. He provided me with an excellent bike fit, suggesting that I buy a frame with a larger stack height (read: bigger bike). We searched the shop and found a smoking deal on a bike frame that fit me. All that was left was to custom-order the components, which I thought would cost an arm and a leg; however, they didn't. Big Ring Cycles was able to get top of the line components at discount prices, allowing me to build the bike up perfectly without breaking the budget. Big Ring Cycles went above and beyond. When they were unable to find some components I wanted, they took the components off other bikes. When they couldn't find the Ultegra cassette I wanted, they swapped it out for Dura-Ace cassette for a small upcharge. The mechanics who built the bike did an impeccable job - it shifts amazingly, all the extras were installed perfectly, and the bike was ready to go right out of the gate. While many of the bikes stores in and around Denver are good, this one is exceptional. read more

What brought me in was seeing a customer testing out a new fat bike on the sidewalk outside. What immediately caught my eye when I entered is the sheer number of bikes with Leftys they had on the floor. That was very cool and unlike any bike shop I've been in before.
